It was our pleasure to perform an estimate for the member. She has a wonderful property and clearly takes pride in having a beautiful landscape. The estimate we were asked to perform was not a simple mulch installation. She requested we clean up the bed edges, so she was quoted the price for us to operate our commercial bed edging machine around several hundred linear feet of mulch bed, thus raising the cost. In her estimate we also identified two problem areas that needed addressing prior to mulch laying. One was where the current mulch bed's grading was insufficient and, if we just laid mulch on it, would encourage water to pool at the foundation of her house. We cannot ignore a situation such as that, so we included the extra time and cost for grading in her estimate. The second problem area was a downspout that discharged directly into the mulch bed. We estimated additional time to correct the grading in this area so that mulch would not wash out of the bed and into the turf area. When I presented the estimate to the member, she accepted the estimate with enthusiasm and never expressed any concerns of the price. Furthermore, I called the member on two separate occasions to follow up with our estimate. She did not answer our calls or return our voicemail. Also, the member never contacted us to inquire about the seemingly high priced estimate. When I started this company, I committed myself to meeting the needs of our clients in any way possible, including financial needs. When our clients don't respond to our efforts to meet their financial needs and don't ever express their concerns to us, we cannot help them. I would have been happy to clarify any pricing concerns the member had, and have the authority as the owner of Kouski Landscapes to adjust pricing to meet specific financial needs. I take my clients' opinions of my company very seriously but find it quite disappointing when we reach out to our clients to meet their needs, but they decline our help and simply post their feelings on a public review forum. Since this member's review on Angie's List is the only contact I've had with her since we performed her estimate, I will accept this situation as an opportunity to improve our company by explaining our estimates more thoroughly and to make an even larger effort to make myself personally more available to our clients throughout the estimating process.
