Allied Van Lines- Federal/O'Byrne Moving & Storage

The moving staff appeared to be responsive to our needs. We do not know when damages to our belongings occurred, whether placing items in storage, in storage or when it was repacked after storage in their facility for the second move or when taken off the truck to move into our new home. Many boxes appeared to have been crushed and items within were broken. We were not compensated because we packed our own items, very carefully. But crushed, damaged boxes indicate some carelessness somewhere in the process. One item did not ever show up at our house. But we didn't catch it until the movers had left. It would have taken two days to check off every single box and piece of furniture. Obviously the moving guys were not going to stick around that long!! We were not compensated for the missing piece of furniture because we signed off before we had a chance to check. The movers were very anxious to get going. (I can see why.) Quite a lot of damage was done to furniture. The moving company did compensate us for some of the damage. But really there were so many pieces that had some damage that we didn't even bother to claim all the damage to pieces of furniture. It was a difficult move. I would look at a different long distance moving and storage company, if I had to move in the future. We Paid $25,000 for moving out of our Champaign house in August, 2017, storing our belongings for two months and then moving our things into our new house in November, 2017

In our opinion, this move was a disaster. From the estimate, which was misleading to say the least. to the loading, there were problems. We were told that there would be one crew to load and one crew to unload. This was not the case. There were two crews and they did not tell the new crew the instructions when they changed, so some things did not get moved and others were moved that should not have been moved and the company basically said it was our problem, not theirs. After the supervisor left at 2pm, the crew disappeard for 2 hours. This meant that my husband was packing boxes, but the company charged us for packing as if their people did it. They said we would have to pay a delivery charge to get the boxes ahead of time. That insured that they would do the packing and increase the price of the move. The driver admitted to us that he had fogotten some items, but recanted his statement to his boss and basically called us a liar. We have been left holding the bag. The lady in customer service has tried to help, but she basically called my husband a liar and said her men were always right. They would have no reason to lie. There was a lack of professionalism and integrety with this company. The crew that unloaded us was different. They were efficient, professional and worked well. Many of our pieces were broken or missing and I do not look forward to the work we will have to do to make things right. We will have to spend more of our time with the adjuster and then run down estimates. I would NEVER use this company again.

It was not a good move at all. The truck broke down, and they wouldn't get a new van for us. They tried to fix it, then broke down on the expressway. We had to stay two nights in a hotel because they had to take everything out of the van and put it in a U-Haul. They also lost two boxes. It was the worst experience I've ever had. I thought their price was a little high, and they weigh the van for the price. The actual services of the guys doing the work were good. We blame the management for what happened.
