The entire project went very well. It began May 7, 2013, with the owner, Ed, coming out to look at the total job to provide an estimate for me to compare with other contractors. I provided Ed with a copy of a drawing I made to show the proposed path of the walkway. Ed used the drawing to help calculate the number of blocks needed. Originally, I was going to use patio blocks, however, Ed explained his reasoning for not using them but rather Belgian tumbler blocks instead. He then explained to me he had just taken up his patio and was willing to sell the blocks to me for less than half the cost of the same blocks new. I accepted his offer and his estimate for the job. Each phase took a couple of weeks in between a full days work by Ed and his sons. After the phase 1 was completed, I asked Ed about making a trash corral to hide the cans from public view. He said that would not be a problem. We discussed location and material and agreed on a cost and that was added into phase 2. I also asked about using the same material for a replacement for the small amount of chain link fence on the north side of the back yard. Ed and I agreed on a cost for that project and it too was added in to phase 2 - 3. In between phase 3 and 4, I had to have some work done on my shed which meant Ed and crew would have to wait for that work to be completed before he could proceed. Once the shed work was finished, Ed came right back and continued working to complete phase 4; bringing the walkway to the shed ramp and wrapping the walkway around the east side of the shed. On October 1st, Ed finished the walkway to the fire pit and widened it slightly to accommodate my garden carts. It was a real pleasure watching the family team work so harmoniously as they did. They did an excellent job.
Description of Work: The provider completed the last phase of a summer-long project - creating a block walkway from the north side of the yard to the shed and around to the steps to the upper level deck. The project was in 5 phases; completed one half at a time. This last phase was tamping and filling in with sand as needed.
