It looks like my complaint is the exact same as several other reviewer sites. Check out some of their other reviews at other locations and sort by most recent. Yelp has 13 out of 13 straight 1* reviews since 2014. I have read many of the 1* reviews and my complaints are very similar. This is my 7th review on Angie's list and I have never rated below an "A" until now because I generally only want to leave positive reviews. I ended up having to hire a handyman to finish the job. (1) I paid for washer installation. They "installed" my washer. And by "installed", I mean there was no drainage hose long enough and so they told me to just get my own hose and install it myself. (2) When they were pushing the washer into my closet, they moved one of my laminate floor boards and left a crack. (3) I sent them an initial claim on January 23. I heard nothing from them, so I sent them a quick followup email on January 26. We had some brief e-mails back and forth while we discussed simple things like the age of the floor and the composition. I heard absolutely nothing from them after January 26 until I sent them an e-mail 5 days later asking for a quick followup on Jan 31. (4) I mentioned in my initial e-mail on January 23 that I thought the microwave they installed was done improperly because a large amount of air was venting into the cabinets above the microwave, instead of into the vent duct installed inside of the cabinet. I would have at least liked someone to check on it. However, they ignored every mention of the microwave installation issue, even up to their last e-mail to me. I mentioned the microwave issue on January 23, January 26, and on January 31. Number of times they responded to the microwave issue? Zero. Customer service means responding to a client's issues.

Excellent!! It was first-class service. The whole process from beginning to end went very smoothly. Representatives of the company were all very knowledgeable, helpful, communicative and friendly. All commitments by them were met or exceeded. My goods arrived on time and in fine condition, and they followed up after the delivery to confirm that all had gone well. I had used them previously for my primary move to Arizona and would recommend them to anyone planning a move.

Liz Bower and Sue North were nice to deal with. I expressed concern over our piano and antique dresser in my daughter's room that they be handled with care. She assured me they would. Of course accidents can happen, so we purchased insurance through them to cover such things. The crew arrived late to pack up and didn't clean up well, or handle our furniture with care. Then on delivery day we would told we receive a call to see how things were going; we never received a call. We discovered after the crew left that our dresser was damaged. I called it in that day and was told to file a claim, which we did. Our claim was rejected due to age of dresser and they claimed moisture-which is crazy. We filed an appeal, to which they investigated further, and still came back to us with the same thing; they won't cover it. We won't use them again. The insurance is useless.

Glen Ellyn Moving came out (Liz Bower) and did an estimate, provided some guidance for packing and explained how to compare quotes across companies. Liz was a great resource. The office called the day before to check in on my preparedness & let me know what time to expect the moving team the next day. They showed up on time, were amazingly coordinated, pleasant, quick and thorough. Although my move was small time for MashevskyMashevsky hem, they treated me as if I was a large, high revenue customer. They finished ahead of schedule. They whole experience far exceeded my expectations. I would definely use them again & recommend them to anyone moving, large or small.

In the way of background, I purchased a home midyear 2015 that required some extensive remodeling and I have used Angie?s List to source multiple contractors over the last 6 months and have nothing but high praise for the quality of work; integrity; and value from each ? until my most recent experience with Glen Ellyn Storage. While I purchased the home back in June, I didn?t relocate until December 7th & 8th with Glen Ellyn. All indications during the sourcing process were positive from the online reviews to the series of interviews with the Sales Representative. On December 3rd, 4th and 5th I reached out to the Sales Representative I had been dealing with and two ladies in the office to advise that that I may need some last minute support for packing. All three ? including the Sales Representative who stopped out to the house to see the extent of what was needed ? signaled that the request was small in the scheme of things given the number of movers that would be on the truck the day of the move. They did however indicate that because it was an hourly contract, there might be some additional hours to be billed ? which I understood. I should also add that the Sales Representative made multiple trips to the house with additional boxes for packing and did so very graciously. Unfortunately, it was downhill since that time. When the movers arrived at the house on December 7th and saw that there were still items to be packed, they expressed concern. I advised him of my three previous conversations and his response: ?We don?t pack for local moves. The Salesman should know that we don?t pack for locals but they say anything to get the business.? Suffice to say the moving team was not happy. In order to put into perspective, this represented my 13th move over the course of my career and in that time, I only had two pieces of furniture damaged and the moving company took ownership: no claims; no approvals needed to repair the damaged items; no third party adjusters involved; and both damaged items were resolved in a few days. Suffice to say that this was a very different and disappointing experience. The Damaged Item List · The Foyer Wall which ?had? a unique paint and plaster finish had a significant area that was damaged. When this was brought to the attention of the lead mover during the final inspection, he acknowledged that his team had damaged the wall BUT went on to add that if the plaster had been applied correctly, he wouldn?t have to deal with the current damage and proceeded to advise me how the plaster should have been applied. I should note here that the home is 34 years old ? with the original plaster ? and has stood the test of time up to this point. · The Kenwood Turntable was literally destroyed: the turntable was disengaged; the arm broken; and diamond needle lost. It was an item that the movers packed and they literally ?stuffed? it in a box between other stereo components without any cushion. · The refrigerator door was locked shut during the move and unavailable to use until a 3rd party came to the house to work on the door which I am now able to open it ? albeit, with a click and a hitch. And ? disappointingly ? put a damper on a family gathering over the holiday without the use of the refrigerator to store food. · Multiple lamp shades were stacked in a box and torn beyond repair. One shade was part of a matched set and I have been advised by Glen Ellyn as follows: ?As for your claim to the 5th lamp shade, it is not considered a claimable item. Coverage does not extend to pairs and sets and cannot be compensated as such.? I have asked for a copy of the contract where this language appears and as yet have not received a response. · I had a number of large pieces of exercise equipment that needed to be moved as a part of the relocation and Glen Ellyn advised that they work with a 3rd party to disassemble and reassemble the equipment. Glen Ellyn secured a bid of $500 and the final invoices came in at $665 ($305 + $360). $165 over the bid provided. Additionally, Glen Ellyn movers unloaded the piece of equipment and made no attempt to bring into the house stating that it would not ?fit? down the stairs ? so they left in the garage. When the 3rd party arrived to reassemble the equipment, they asked why the piece of equipment was still in the garage. I shared what the movers had told me. They advised that the piece of equipment was solid state and could not be disassembled any further. While they are not considered ?movers? ? the two men said that they would try to move themselves and ultimately, were able to do so. They were first class all the way. · My business desk was put back together and not level making it difficult to work at until Glen Ellyn found the time to repair it. Again, a 3rd party came to the house and restored to the original condition. I received an email from Glen Ellyn on January 2nd advising me that ?The balance of your claim will be settled this week.? As I write this note on January 10th ? no emails; no phone calls; no texts; and still no resolution. In the interest of fairness and only presenting the facts, I have referenced email exchanges; dates from any phone calls; and my FILE NOTES prior to writing this review. The Glen Ellyn view of their performance: ?Your claim is being handled in a professional and expedited manner.? As a customer, I have a much different perspective. As a final note, this week I am sharing this review with the Better Business Bureau and the State Attorney General in the hopes that this open issue get the proper attention.
Description of Work: The physical move was disappointing at best and the response has been unacceptable. I have reached out on multiple occasions but the multiple issues are still open.

We are very sorry to hear that you had an unpleasant moving experience. All feedback is important to us as we are always looking to improve our performance. We would like to clarify some things that were mentioned in your review. The packing service is available on local moves and has been for the past 80 years. We will be interviewing the crew to find out more about that conversation and what occurred during your move. The original estimate given by the salesperson was for $4940.00. Even with the additional packing that was added the total of $4206.50 was still under the estimated amount. In regards to our response, our claims manager was in contact with you even responding to e-mails on Saturday, January 2nd a holiday weekend. In rare cases like yours where there is a claim on a local move, our goal is to have a resolution within 30 days from when the claim is received. This can vary with scheduling inspections and repairs. A claim settlement was sent on 1/11. Claims in the State of Illinois are given 90 days for settlement. Yours was settled in 25 days. We are sorry if your expectations were for a faster settlement.

While removing our old oven the delivery people set the oven on our wood floor and then dragged it across. They scratched 6 boards and then acted like they didn't do it. The delivery people looked at their protective pad to see if there was anything on it that could scratch our floor, but they were outside of their protect pad when they did it. I wrote a note on the delivery receipt that stated the delivery people scratched our floor. I sent photos of the scratch to the idiots at Glenn Ellyn Storage, but they said they didn't scratch our floor. This is the part that gets me. They said because we where having GE appliances delivered that we should call them, haha. So because your workers don't want to get fired for scratch our floor while removing our old oven, push it off on another company. What a bunch of crooks. Don't ever use this company, since they are dishonest and try to push blame on another company. Oh by the way they never repaired or replaced my floor.

They were competitive and reasonably priced. The moving team we had, Mike & Martin, were fantastic, and coming from the Chicago area to Bonita Springs FL with all of our household items, not one piece was broken, damaged, or scratched. Michelle, the sales rep, was extremely professional, as was Sue, who kept us informed on the truck's schedule. Everyone there was fantastic.

On Sept.10, 2014 Glen Ellyn Moving & Storage (GEM&S) was contracted to move us from our apartment on the 11th floor of one building to an apartment on the 12th floor of an adjacent building for the estimated cost of $1958.00 plus carton delivery. On Sept. 10 a little after 9 AM the mover/packers arrived to begin packing our kitchen items and china. Joe and Andrew advised us that they did not work for GEM&S, but were sub-contractors (their truck was from McMahon in Crystal Lake). They also entertained us with a dialogue about one of their colleagues who was stuck working in the warehouse and wouldn't get any tips. The dialogue continued while they worked and stressed the no tips theme. At 10 AM they asked to take a break and returned about 20 minutes later. We went to the club room for a while and when we returned about 11AM they were wondering where the other 3 movers were. The second truck arrived a little after noon. We went to our new apartment to get out of their way. The 3 new guys did not have the appearance of professional movers. We have moved 3 times in the last 12 years. The previous 2 moves were done by professionals who were in constant motion and had a plan. Our son moved from Las Vegas NV in May and we assisted him and saw 4 movers empty a truck containing the contents of his 2 bedroom house into his current 2 bedroom house in 6 hours. From our balcony, we watched the new guys stand around the truck and use their cell phones. On a trip back to the old place, Joe told me that the first truck was full and they would have to split up and start filling the second. This was after 3PM. Around 4PM the boxes started to arrive and the only person in the apartment, unloading them was Paul. My wife and I assisted him unloading the rolling bins and assembling chairs. At around 5PM all activity ceased for about an hour. I assume this was a dinner break. Upon resuming at the same glacial pace; Paul and someone else were alternating delivering boxes and carping about who wasn't working and where is so-and-so. At approximately 7:30 PM the furniture started arriving and assembly began. This was slow going because someone had lost some of their tools. I later found my tool box open and surmise they may have used mine. A glass shelf was broken in my office and we supplied a vacuum for clean up. Phone calls from wives/girlfriends were taken throughout the move. At 8:30 PM Joe had me sign some paperwork and the next half hour was spent with them finishing up. In conclusion; this was a frustrating amateurish effort by a company with very high ratings on Angie's List. Damages were thankfully minor as either Joe or Andrew were involved with moving the large furniture items. Furniture assembly was poor and I had to tighten the footboard on our bed and check the bolts on the day bed. Boxes were piled everywhere with no regard for labeling. Our new apartment is the same floor plan as the old and my wife and I packed the majority of the boxes and kept them in the rooms they were to go to. Joe and Andrew did a fine job of packing, but a poor job of looking. We went back to look for our All-Clad cookware and found our pots and pans sitting in the cabinet in our old kitchen. Twelve hours of an effort worthy of some college kids or in-laws.

First, we would like to thank you for your feedback. It was taken very seriously by our staff and the owner of our company who called you after reading the e-mail regarding your experience. McMahon movers is our sister company located in Crystal Lake. The crew that performed your move was immediately reprimanded. As far as the glass shelf and any other damage that may have occurred, please file a claim so we can begin addressing that for you. If you have any questions about filing a claim please contact our Claims Manager, Mike Fenwick.

Originally got quotes from Mayflower (Glenn Ellyn) and ADCO United in Crystal Lake. Chose United because of better response and lower cost. When my delivery was delayed because of a truck breakdown in Utah, I found out that my load was on a Glen Ellyn Mayflower van. I got calls from both Crystal Lake and Glen Ellyn updating progress. There was no coordination between offices, but they were both trying to be helpful. The delivery in CA was late in the day and chaotic. Item number discrepencies weren't properly resolved. I may have lost one box in the move. Furniture setup was only fair, partly because of inadequate identification of components during packing. A major move is confusing and chaotic. It would have been better with a little more systematic approach by the movers. If I were to do this again, I would inventory and number each box that we packed. I would also consider doing all of the packing ourselves.

Thank you for your feedback. First, we do apologize for the truck breakdown that is an unusual circumstance but gladly the truck arrived within the second day of your delivery window. We were unaware that you had any problems at delivery until today. Our office has no record of you contacting us after your delivery. Your file shows that a final walk through was done with the driver room by room and all inventories were checked off and signed. If you have identified a missing item, please let us or ADCO United know. We can initiate a trace and send you a claim form.

Superior movers! I really can't express in words how pleased we are with the entire company. From the first call to the last box moved they were fantastic! Michelle came out, on time, and walked through each room to provide an accurate estimate. On move day, Mark brought the team of movers out and we walked through each room, with all the movers, and discussed what we wanted and were, etc... Our move was complicated because some things were being placed in the basement of the rental home for long-term storage, others were being moved to the first floor of the ranch home we are renting for a year. We had a ton of boxes. The team of movers moved QUICKLY and with great care. They did not waste one minute of time, and busted their tails to ensure they met the estimated time. They came-in within 30 minutes of the estimated time, just outstanding! They rate was very competitive and the service was superior. You will be quite happy wit them....

They have quality and reasonable price. They had an option that they can ship everything in a container and it was less expensive. I was getting quotes for? $8000-9000 dollar but they stayed under the item. They will store for me till I am ready to move to my house. Everything is covered by replacement cost insurance. It is all covered by insurance. they treated everything carefully, they were very professional, they were very patient. They helped me wrap up stuff they is handled with care like silvanias . My chandelier could not sit in any box but they guy who had 30 year experience made a box for it.? They gave me a price and stuck to the price, so far they have done everything they said they will do. They are a reputable company.

I called on Tuesday for a move to be conducted the same weekend and was surprised how easy it was to schedule. The estimate was fairly accurate, and definitely depended on an accurate inventory provided to the coordinator. I gathered quotes from several other providers who offered much lower prices but charged separately for all supplies. Additionally, Glen Ellynn's hourly price was seasonally higher. We chose Glen Ellyn because they were able to schedule on short notice, while most other movers were already booked for the day that worked best for us. Mark and his team of movers were seasoned pros and handled our belongings with great care. Our phone estimate was too low due to my failure to mention a very long (time consuming) walk between the unit and the elevator, but Mark made a great effort to push the efficiency of his team to finish the move faster. This did not result in any damages to our property and we were amazed at how strong and gentle they were. Definitely highly recommended if you have delicate or heirloom furniture.

Glen Ellyn Movers moved my mother's belongings from a house to a smaller apartment (moving a small amount of furniture). They were easy to work with, had the best price, and their boxes are $1.00 for used and $2.00 for new, then when you return boxes you get a $1.00 back for each box. I have used their moving services before and was pleased. That is why I used them again this time.

When we knew we'd be moving out of state I contacted Glen Ellyn Moving & Storage because of the excellent reviews on Angie's List. We had lived in our home for over 25 years, we are not brilliant at packing, and I knew we'd need a responsive, competent, professional company to make the move go smoothly. Right away I was impressed by the helpfulness of the person who took my call. She explained the services offered, the time schedule we'd need to follow, and how the process worked. A few months before our likely moving day, we were assigned to Michele, who came to our house and estimated costs. She also gave us pointers on how to keep the costs lower, and she helped us decide which items would be cheaper to leave behind. Over the next weeks Michele stayed in close contact with me, and was incredibly patient with my frequent phone calls and emails. We decided to pack our thousands (no exaggeration) of books ourselves but to ask Mayflower to pack almost everything else. We got busy paring down our belongings--no need to pack and ship things we'd never use again, and after 25 years, there are a lot of things like that. A week or so before moving day, Michele came back, made the final estimate, and gave us dates for the packers and the moving van. She then turned us over to Bonnie, who verified times and made frequent phone checks to be sure things were progressing OK. So, customer service A+. Fortunately the actual move was also A+. I'm not sure how many forests were destroyed to make the mountains of paper used to wrap our stuff, but absolutely nothing got broken. The way the packers loaded the boxes, nothing could possibly have broken even if they'd tossed the boxes out of second-story windows. And they labeled every box, so I had a pretty good idea of what I was unpacking at the other end. The movers, like the packers, arrived right on time, and Steve, the driver, coordinated his teams with great efficiency. They had to load some of our stuff from our storage unit and some from our house, and then to unload some at a storage unit, some at our daughter's house, and some at our apartment. He managed to figure this all out, and everything got sent to the right place, which seemed to me like a minor miracle. We arrived just ahead of a snow-and-ice storm, and in Maryland that means everything shuts down. Steve nevertheless managed to unload the truck, and he stayed calm in spite of the fact that the storm cost him an extra day. He was a real treasure! Selling a house and moving to a new place is an incredibly stressful experience, and I'm glad we went with a moving company that didn't add to the stress! Customer service, packing, loading, unloading, responsiveness, timeliness - everything (but the weather) went very well. I highly recommend Glen Ellyn Moving & Storage.

These guys are awesome! I had furniture and packed items that needed to be moved from one floor to another in my three story townhome. I also had additional furniture and boxes that needed to be put onto the truck to be taken to a donation center. I got scheduled within a week. I also got a reminder call the day before the move. The guys arrived on time, were very pleasant and moved all of my stuff to where I wanted it in my home. Then they took what was on the truck to the donation center. Every part of this process went very well from the initial call to the in home estimate and the move itself. I could not be happier with this experience and I very strongly recommend this company.

Overall the service was ok, with the exception of the items that didn?t get put together. They did have to come back out to take care of some things that weren?t done initially. It was a very long day but in the end I was satisfied with the service. However my point of contention was when they blew over the fact that they did not deliver my step stool. I had purchased a nice 4 step step stool, yet when I had submitted a claim form to the company, they declined it saying that I had left it. Everything was on the truck and they have not reimbursed me for this stool. They explain that I had not looked everywhere and the fact was that they had lost it as I know that it was on their truck.
Description of Work: They moved me from one location to another. They had to break down everything at the one location and bring it to the new location to set it all up. It was a little complicated due to a snow storm and became a little trying for all of us.

This was absolutely terrible! Not only did it take 6 men to pack our belongings in one day, they took another day to move them - which isn't the bad part, but had they not given us a "discount," the price would have been $1K OVER the estimate. And people still can't believe when I tell them it still cost us almost $4K to move 30 miles. On top of that, there were nicks, dings, scrapes, broken pieces, lost pieces, in about half of our furniture! While the movers themselves were nice enough, it wasn't until after they had taken their tip and left that we saw how they had tried to hide all the damage! Many of our picture frames were damaged, there were shelves missing hardware, and I won't even go into the long list of furniture that was damaged, scraped, and obviously mistreated - but literally every room in our house has furniture that they've somehow damaged in some fashion, some of which cannot be easily fixed. Interestingly, only the original representative apologized to us - not the customer care individual, nor the owner. The former merely told us to save all our boxes while they completed an "investigation!" Which of course, was ridiculous, since the furniture wasn't put in boxes! Not only that, but when I saw how they were loading the truck, I asked the driver why some of the more fragile boxes were on the bottom, and his response was to first stare at me, then say that I had insurance. RIDICULOUS. I should have stopped the move right then, but of course, the truck was half full by that point and we had to leave the condo building. DO NOT USE THESE PEOPLE!!! AGAIN, I REITERATE, do NOT USE THEM!!! You will be sorry, unless of course, you like your furniture to be "distressed."
Description of Work: Moved our furniture and a medium sized storage unit (1/3 filled) to a house in the suburbs.

Response from Glen Ellyn Storage Corp.
Although we have been in business for over 75 years, we are always interested in the quality of our work. We could not locate your file under the name . However [removed members name], Angie's List did provide us with the name that you moved under this morning and we have been able to look over the paperwork. We do a final walkthrough with each customer after the move to make sure there is no damage to your property and if so, it is noted. We only show one notation regarding a wall that our mover said was discussed with your husband prior to moving your sofa. Your salesperson did ask our claims department to send you a claim form so you could report any damage that occurred. Our records show that it was sent on October 7th and we have not received your claim form at this time. However, we are very interested in your comments. Please call our office at 630-543-0500 and ask to speak to our claims manager, Mike Fenwick he would like to hear more about your experience.

We needed temporary -- maybe 6-months -- storage of about a dozen 6-7-foot bookcases, 66 heavy boxes of books, and 2 very heavy old-fashioned marble-topped speakers. I called two movers, and Glen Ellyn Moving and Storage gave me the best price by far. Their phone rep returned my calls quickly as we worked out details, and she did not try to sell me anything I didn't need. We also talked about our plans for a cross-country move next year, and she was knowledgeable and helpful in answering my questions. The moving crew arrived on time and worked efficiently and quickly. The final cost was exactly as estimated. We will definitely used Glen Ellyn Moving and Storage when it's time for our big move!

Moving jdoesn't get any better than this. We have moved many times over the past 40+ years and can say that we have never had a better relocation experience. Everyone we came in contact with from Glen Ellyn Storage was very responsive, conscientious, professional and pleasant. They all were very communicative and kept us well-informed throughout the process. They met every planned date and time along the way. The packers and the loading/unloading crews worked tirelessly and seemed to treat our belongings as if they were their own as evidenced by the fact that we had no damage whatsoever to our goods during the move. The latter took special efforts to confirm each item was delivered to the room in our new home where we wanted it and then at the conclusion of the move, they meticulously went through the inventory with us to confirm all had arrived safely. Back in the home office, we had a point of contact throughout the process who quickly and accurately answered all our questions. Additionally she called us frequently to confirm that everything was progressing well and per the plan. At the outset, the estimator (who delivered an accurate and easily understandable cost estimate) took time during his visit to point out ways we could make the move more cost-effective. All in all, they provided excellent service to us during all phases of the move and I would readily recommend them to anyone planning a move. (I didn't comment on the price because based on the high praise we read in the Angies List reviews and the very favorable impression of them during the early steps, we did not do any comparison shopping.)
Description of Work: packed about 2/3 of our belongings at our home in IL, loaded and delivered them as well as the goods we packed ourselves to our new home in AZ, and then unloaded everything

Very professional, they were very careful of all the items, and nothing was damaged or broken. The estimator, Michelle, was very professional, and was right on the money with her estimate. I would highly recommend this company.
