Not at all. Even though we had over $1200 worth done five years ago and have barely used the fireplace (not at all last winter), they said they could not clean the chimney the conventional way and would instead need to use a motorized rotor or something. It just seemed strange that what was supposed to be a $99 inspection and cleaning (one of the Big Deals) turned into a bid for services that were going to cost us another $1100 or so. Consequently, we had nothing done.

Went well. Very clean and on time. Also, they did try to sell me $2000.00 worth of more inspections and services.

They were punctual and professional. Explained everything going wrong and right with my fireplace. Needed some repair and gave estimate. Did not force or exaggerated the issues and offered to fix it now or whenever I want to. Happy with them.

I am glad they alerted me to needing an new cap and replace a storm collar. They also resurfaced chase pan. $485.00 seemed a bit excessive to just spray paint on chase pan without even scrapping rust off. They did not even scrap rust ring on chimney pipe or spray paint with high temp rust-o-leum. The stainless steel cap was listed at $464.71 and discounted to $395 for Angie's List member. Subsequent Angie list deals show replacement cap from Jimmy Chiminy at $249.00 before Angie discount to $129.00 Our chimney cap was installed crooked until my wife requested that it be straightened. Very overpriced. ...and, yes, I scrapped the rust ring on the pipe and spray painted the pipe with high temp rust-o-leum myself!

They showed up 4.5 hours late, and one person quickly vacuumed inside the chimney while the other performed the inspection. The one who did the "inspection" showed me pictures on his digital camera that he claimed were of my chimney and, talking very quickly, gave me some brochures and tried to sell me on a "flexible" masonry chimney cap re-surfacing, a "breathable" epoxy waterproofing treatment for the chimney bricks, and "sparging" inside the chimney itself. Total cost: $1800. I told him I would let him know, then called the mason that had rebuilt my chimney 3 years ago. He confirmed my suspicion, that all the services they were trying to sell me were garbage and unnecessary. One of the pictures that he showed me showed holes in a rusted-out old chimney cap cover, so I asked my trusted mason to come and inspect it. He showed me photos of my actual chimney, which did not look at all like the photos that this unreliable and untrustworthy company showed me. They had clearly showed me pictures of someone else's deteriorating chimney to sell me services I didn't need.

Great. The 2 men were prompt, polite and didn't waste any time doing the inspection and cleaning.

The job: remove old/failing grout, regrout, return for acid-wash and sealing of bluestone steps. Once they got the proper person on the job (who was both good and a pretty good guy) the job was near perfect. All done as promised, when promised and at the price agreed! (did not attempt to upsell). Based on this job, we would most certainly consider using them again for fireplace and chimney work. However ... their office staff wasted both our times and delayed the work several weeks by sending the wrong crew for the first estimate (chimney folks vs. stone mason) after I made it very clear, at least three times, that this was a porch, not a chimney job) ... and that's why the overall rating dropped to a "B" vs "A".

The courtesy and professionalism were through the roof - pun intended. Unfortunately for us there was a great deal of work to be done to make the chimney safe to use and prevent further deterioration. But everything was spelled out clearly and they took many pics both before and after, so we trusted them to do all the work. It was far more money than we expected to pay that day, but our fireplace is beautiful and will hopefully lasts us a long time. Overall, we are very happy with the service and the outcome

I thought I should have gotten a discount but I didn’t get it. They didn’t bring along a ladder so that they could go up on the roof so they can look at the chimney so I thought that wasn’t professional.

Chris and Mike with A-1 did a tremendous job. They were knowledgeable, thorough, courteous, and tidy--who can ask for more than that! I very strongly recommend them and A-1.

It went okay until her found some damage in the chimney. He said he could fix it and his first price was $1700 then dropped to $500 if he fixed same day.

Crew arrived promptly and performed the chimney sweep in a professional manner. The workers were pleasant. Consistent with previous reviews here and as expected, they tried to upsell the service with applying an expensive coating to the chimney cap, which I declined, just because the pan had light superficial rusting. I agree this could be an issue many years down the road, but the pan could replaced several times for the cost of the epoxy coating application. Be aware of the impending upsell and stick to the service you called them for, and they will do an excellent job for a good price.

The pilot light needed to be lit. The technician showed me what to do in future. The techicians were very courteous and helpful.

Good, Timely, kept tarps down, cleaned up well.

I would suggest to owner/company to have a tech come out and view/ inspect chimneys before giving clients a date to come and service. This way both parties know ahead of time whether or not services will be provided! Not too disgusted but disappointed to say the least... a waste of time on both ends.

After the liner was installed on August 6, 2010 the initial issue was that the draft hood was bent off to the side and only partly covered the burner pipe. This poses a significant life safety issue related to the potential for carbon monoxide poisoning. Fortunately my husband is quite knowledgeable about these systems and was able to tell just by looking at the connection that the installation had been improperly completed. It took A1 6 or 7 visits before finally correcting all of the issues on November 17, 2010. I contacted our Village inspector who arranged for an independent inspection of the work that was completed to ensure there were no life safety concerns with the order we continued to smell. I wrote the National Chimney Sweep Guild (A1 was a member of the guild at that time) and reported the problems we had experienced using A1. Never heard a word from NSCG. A! did reimburse us $75 to cover the time that my husband had to take off of work to accommodate they're schedule for one of the return visits.

Had some initial trouble sizing and running the liner but the A-1 team never gave up. They came back and finished the job showing professionalism and expertise.

Great, the team was very respectful and was very quick. The chimney was cleaned and they pointed out some repairs that were needed. They showed me photos so I didn't have to climb on the roof. I agreed to the repairs and they documented the process again to show me it was done. I will definitely call them again next year for a cleaning. Very happy with them.
