Kelly (and his wife) are both wonderful - I can't say enough good things about them!!! I'd smelled gas in the upstairs, called the gas company, and they'd come out, identified a signficant leak in the basement, shut off my gas, and said I'd need to get a plumber out to repair it before the gas could be turned back on. I didn't know anyone to call, so found Ameriplumb through Angie's List (I'd just joined). When I called, the person answering the phone (I think it was Kelly's wife) was very kind and said she'd get in touch with him immediately & explain the problem. Kelly called shortly thereafter and set up a time to come out within an hour or so to look at the problem. He had a very full day going on, but still managed to fit me in and solve my problem - I know he ended up working late into that night as a result - so I was very grateful for his help. The multiple leaks were in a terribly inaccessible part of the basement , and the space he had to work in was very tight. The job was complex, with multiple curved pipes leading to others, etc., but he tackled it and in a few hours he had an entire new section of piping installed & the leaks fixed! Then when he turned the gas back on, I still smelled gas in the upstairs. After trouble-shooting the problem, we discovered that turn-off knob to my gas fireplace was not really in the "off" position (the Ameren workman had turned it to what he thought was the "off" position, but it was really still on)! So Kelly figured out how it worked (it wasn't obvious, with the markings hidden by a screen & hard to read), and made sure it was truly "off". So the gas problem was finally solved. Then before he left, he also helped me with a few other problems/questions I had in the basement (see above for description). He also steered me away from several solutions which would have cost alot (& made him more money), and told me less costly ways to handle things, which I think is rare. So, all-in-all, my experience with Kelly was excellent - I definitely will be calling him again with any plumbing, heating/air or gas line problems I have in the future, and I highly recommend him to all of you "Angie's Listers". He has alot of all-around experience, is highly competent, and really came through for me when I really needed it!
Description of Work: Located and repaired/replaced a section of pipes in the basement that were the source of a gas leak that had caused Ameren to shut off the gas to my house. The pipes were located in an extremely difficult area to reach, and he did a brilliant job under very difficult circumstances. While he was here he also helped me out with several other minor problems (got the broken-off base of a lightbulb out of the socket - it was really in there tight & it was overhead & hard to reach, and he worked at it persistently until he got it out). He also advised me regarding varous sump pump questions I had, and on a recurring air conditioner line problem I've had where it gets clogged & starts flooding the basement.

The communication between me living in NJ and the contractor in IL and the tenant needing A/C repair in IL was excellent. I emailed request late at night, next morning they called me and arranged meeting with tenant to diagnose the problem. by the afternoon work was completed. Good people to work with.
Description of Work: Did repair old central A/C unit. Added freon.

Kelly Chapman was recommended to me by Shane Moseley of Custom Home Updates, who is doing the larger remodel job. Kelly was also recommended to me by a co-worker. The initial visit to look at the job happened quickly, and I received a verbal estimate that I was happy with. Kelly thought the gas pipe was another water pipe, because the material is not normally used for gas. This is an old house though, and the surprises are many. Kelly said his office would contact me to schedule the job, but no one called, so I called the office, got a machine which did state that I'd reached Ameriplumb, left a message, and waited. I didn't get a return call, so I tried again a couple weeks later (I wasn't in a hurry). Same deal -- machine, message, no response. It was getting closer to my vacation, and I wanted to get it done before I left, so then I tried e-mailing through Angie's List. That worked like a charm. Kelly and one of his staff apologized profusely for not getting back to me, and the job was scheduled. Kelly showed up an hour early (not sure if that was another miscommunication or if I just wrote down the wrong time), and did the work.He did cut that gas pipe thinking it was water. I suppose that could have gone horribly wrong, but he managed to get the gas shut off and bled out the pipes. Old house surprise! I don't think he'll ever make that mistake again. The pipes were cut back and capped and the drain pipe and vent coupled, and it all looks great. The final total was less than the estimate.
Description of Work: The job was to cut back unused plumbing pipes so that they could be concealed inside a wall. There were four pipes, hot & cold water, the drain, and a gas pipe. The drain pipe vented vertically out the roof, so the T was replaced with a straight junction. The job is part of a larger room remodel.

Great. He fixed the running toilet in a few minutes, showing me how my own adjustments were a source of the problem. The other toilet, a weird older low profile one, was a challenge. He tried a new "universal" flapper, but quickly determined that "universal" didn't apply to that toilet. He then went out to get the special part, and needed to do other work when he returned. He explained that he'd never encountered a toilet that worked the way that this one did (helping to explain why it had flummoxed our previous plumber), and then said that he wouldn't charge us for his extra time, since he considered it part of his "education." With the 10% discount he gave us for Angie's List (he was the one who brought that up, since he knew we'd found him on this website), the total bill was $74.
Description of Work: What I thought was a small job: two toilets needing repairs. One inflated our water bill by running sporadically. The other hadn't flushed well for years, and our previous plumber hadn't succeeded in improving it.

Kelly was amazingly helpful, even in coming for the estimate. He explained why my problem sink cracked, made the measurements for the new sink/counter top, provided information about what I needed, drew me pictures even! He was prompt, professional, did a super job in the actual installation, and along the way gave me lots of information in response to my questions. His office staff is friendly. I highly recommend Ameriplumb.

I needed to have a new dishwasher installed. Kelly Chapman saw that the old dishwasher installation was not compliant with the current codes, and put in a new flexible water line and re-routed the wastewater to the appropriate drain. Work looks very professional and will improve performance of my kitchen sink drainage. I highly recommend this plumber.

Due to a tight delivery schedule from Sears for new/replacement kitchen appliances, I had minimal time to schedule needed gas piping relocation for the new gas range. Upon explaining my scheduling predicament to Jada and Linda in Ameriplumb's office, Kelly Chapman (Ameriplumb's Owner/Plumber) was very accommodating fitting me into his schedule by coming to my house on a Saturday (i.e., he was already booked-up during the weekdays). He removed certain applicable old gas piping and ran partial new 'TracPipe CounterStrike' branch gas piping in the basement, from a new branch isolation/shut-off valve he also installed; drilled a new access hole through very dense/tough kitchen floor tile for the new access point for the range gas rough-in; and provided an additional gas shut off valve at the gas rough-in point immediately behind the new gas range. (I.e., a new branch isolation/shut-off valve was needed in the basement since the original house construction did not provide any means to shut off this branch for a gas range installation. It was necessary to shut-off the whole-house gas feed at the gas meter to install the new branch isolation/shut-off valve, which also required Kelly to relight the gas hot water heater after the gas meter valve was turned back on.)Kelly Chapman has also performed other plumbing services at my home and each time has been very prompt, efficient and professional; and has also been very receptive and accommodating in answering my numerous questions and explaining each aspect of his work during his installation/remodeling.I intend to continue commissioning Kelly Chapman for future work, including a future remodeling of our master bathroom, and would highly recommend Kelly Chapman of Ameriplumb to anyone considering such contracting work.
Description of Work: Due to the purchase of new/replacement kitchen appliances, it was necessary to relocate the new range gas rough-in location to meet the new range specifications and to replace gas piping, in the basement branch, feeding the new gas range above in the first floor kitchen.

I found some water on the floor of my basement and realized that the drain that the condensation pipe runoff flows into was clogged, but I was unsure where the clog was or how to fix it. I called in the morning and Kelly (the owner) was out the same afternoon to fix it. Kelly was able to identify the problem quickly and unclogged the drain. He was very nice and personable. The cost was very reasonable as well!

GREAT EXPERIENCE! I called at 12:15 pm to see if Ameriplumb was available to make an appt. The owner/operator was just finishing up a job and was able to come to my house within an hour! Talk about great responsiveness! He was very polite and professional. He checked my AC, thermostat and finally the unit outside. He found it was low on freon. He recharged it. He told me he has competitive prices on freon, my levels were low and I needed 3 lbs at $24/lb whereas other places charge up to $40/lb. While he was charging the AC, he cleaned up the unit, explained all of his gizmos, explained about the AC unit pressure and answered any questions I had. When he was finished, he cleaned up, wrote an invoice and explained each charge, and even gave me 10% off labor for being an Angie's list member. He was done in an hour. His office assistant (his wife) was a total sweetheart, she called me to make sure I knew he was on his way and was very polite and nice on the phone. A+ experince

We had them install a sump pump under our new home. They did excellent work. They were punctual on the day of estimate and day of service. They quoted us a price of $370.00. When work was completed, they only charged us $270. They said the job went quicker than what they expected. We will recommend them and use them again.

We were running the washer and heard water hitting the wall. When we checked we realized the carpet next to the wall was wet so we called Ameriplumb. They were curtious and professional. Kenny came out that day and discovered where the leak was coming from with a camera he used to put inside the wall. He neatly cut a square out of the wall and discoved the pipe had never been sealed at the trap. The pipe is one that isn't used any more so he didn't have the glue on his truck so he went to Farm and Fleet and purchased the glue. When he got back to the house, the job was finished in a matter of minutes. He only charged us the for a service call and apologized for not having the glue on the turck. He is very fair. We will use him again when necessary.

He was very prompt when he came to give us an estimate and when he came to do the work. He did the jobs very well. He had to coordinate with the flooring guy (who he has worked with before). They coordinated very well and got the jobs done in 1 day.
Description of Work: We had Ameriplumb do several jobs: put a part in a toilet; put all new parts in another toilet. Move and reset 2 toilets; fix a loose faucet; install a new sink in our old vanity; install a new vanity. He was on time and did a great job. One of the sinks leaked afterwards and he returned the next day to fix it.

When the old toilet broke, I was going to purchase and install a new one myself. After looking at toilets in the big box hardware store, I realized that the space in my bathroom was too tight for the conventional toilets on display, which require a 12-inch clearance from the floor drain to the back wall. They also said a special order toilet would take several weeks. Angie's List to the rescue! I found Ameriplumb, owned by Kevin Chapman, and left a message at his website on Monday morning. His secretary called within the hour and scheduled an appointment for 45 minutes later. Kevin inspected my bathroom, offered suggestions for type of toilet needed, and called his distributor to see what was available to order. He came out Wednesday morning and installed the toilet, and also replaced two very old and leaky outdoor faucets. Labor cost was very reasonable, and his work is high quality. Highly recommended!

I found them on Angie's list. The apprentice accidently over tightened a bolt and it cracked the water closet. They of course corrected the problem. There was no charge for the replacement. Honestly, I would call up Kelly for any pluming situation where I am in over my head. As the son of a carpenter, I consider myself pretty confident with most home repairs outside of plumbing and HVAC work. Based off of years of working with my dad, I feel like I know an honest repair man when I meet one. Kelly does quality work based on my experiences to date. We have had him do an installation and a repair for us,, and in both cases, I couldn't be more pleased. Originally, Kelly did a dishwasher install for Lowes about a year ago. The installation was a bit challenging for an appliance installation because of some shoddy work done in the kitchen by a previous homeowner. Nonetheless, Kelly took care of the problems and did a professional job with the hook up. When I discovered a leaking drum trap under our tub (crawlspace access), I decided to call Kelly up to have him convert the old leaking drum trap to a p-trap. He arrived within the hour with the parts needed to do the job and completed the work in roughly one hour. Everything turned out just like I wanted. Parts were cheap ($28), and he got the job done right. Beyond that, there is not much more else that I could ask for.

Kelly worked closely with Shane Moseley of Custom Home Updates in remodeling our kitchen. Kelly knows pipes! He had to do some creative "piping" in our older home to properly connect our range. He had to be flexible in scheduling to work with the carpenter and electrician and wait for the countertop before he could connect the sink. Kelly dropped by often to check on the progress of the project. In the midst of remodeling the kitchen we discovered the washing machine "died". Kelly is very helpful and offers good suggestions to his customers. I also think it's admirable that he patiently works with a young apprentice. Kelly is a major contributor to our wonderful new kitchen!

Overall it went pretty well. I felt the team was trustworthy enough that I gave a key to house so all could come and go during the day as was necessary (while I was at work). See narrative above. KS
Description of Work: Kelly Chapman of Ameriplumb was the plumber on the remodeling of my two bathrooms (Oct. 17-28). Kelly was recommended to me by Shane Moseley of Custom Home Updates who was the contractor on the job. Once I contacted Kelly, Shane would call him as needed (stages of progression). I was always able to get someone from Ameriplumb each time I called; if not Kelly, I could talk with Linda who coordinated scheduling or Jada (hope that name is correct). Thanks also to Kelly’s apprentice. (I noticed & appreciated that he took his shoes off while working in shower). Ameriplumb has a well organized team that kept me updated. (I was given the opportunity to pick out the plumbing fixtures and that was coordinated through Ameriplumb). I appreciate Kelly’s advice on my needs as a handicapped person and he and Shane worked together so I could be safer. I won’t go into all the details, but my bathroom floor was collapsing (past & present water leaks) and a lot had to be done. [I was mortified when I heard that Kelly spent some time in my crawl space]. When Kelly was installing shower fixtures (master bath) he noticed two fixtures were not manufactured (tooled) correctly. In the interim he fixed me up, but ordered new parts through the manufacturer and is replacing when new parts come in. This is something I may not have noticed right away, but he knew parts were bad (not his fault) and handled for me. This is what is important; it doesn’t have to be the fastest job, just done right in the first place. Parts came in & he replaced 11-17-11. Thanks to Shane at Custom Home Updates for recommending Ameriplumb and all that worked on the remodel at my home. KS

A few days ago we called Kelly Chapman of Ameriplumb and left a message on his business answering machine. His secretary promptly called us back and set up a day/time for Kelly to inspect our furnace. Our furnace is from the 1980s, and we wanted Kelly to inspect the unit to make sure it was working properly. We have called on Kelly in the past, and he has always been wonderful to work with. He is very friendly and competent. While he was inspecting our furnace, he noticed that we had very little ventilation in the room that our furnace and water heater are located. He recommended that we install a vent above the door that leads into this room (we quickly called Shane Moseley with Custom Home Updates to install the vents).

I called 4 different local plumbers to get estimates on replacing my water heater. Ameriplumb was teh best quote by far, then got a 10% off coupon through Angie's List too. They gave me a free quote right over the phone, and guranteed the price. Scheduling was easy, and Kelly was courteous and professional. On the day of installation they called to inform me they were running about 45 minutes late due to problems with a job from that morning. I still gave them an A for punctuality as this was out of their control due to unforseen circumstances, they did call to tell me about the delay, and were very apologetic. Once here, the job was done quickly and professionally. I would definitely use Ameriplumb again!
