After signing a contract for Mr. Hentges and his firm to remodel 4 rooms in our home, we gave him a very large deposit. Days later, we happened to learn that he has been charged with felony theft and also that he has several civil lawsuits against him by former clients and suppliers. We rescinded the contract within the 3-day period allowed by Illinois law. As a result, Mr. Hentges was required by Illinois statute to return our deposit. Mr. Hentges did not take action to return our money until we threatened legal action. He has returned a portion of our deposit but owes us several thousand dollars more and has now stopped repayment. We will be taking him to court, as it appears quite a few people have had to do. You can check the Champaign County Clerk of Courts website for public information about the civil and criminal cases concerning Mr. Hentges and his dealings.
Description of Work: Hentges did perform conceptual and construction drawings. He did no actual work on our house.

Hentges Construction has a fifteen year track record of award-winning design-build services and an extensive list of completed projects and satisfied customers. As a regionally and nationally recognized firm in the construction industry, Hentges Construction was able to grow and expand operations from 1997-2008 until the banking and construction markets collapsed in October of 2008. Since that time Hentges Construction has streamlined its operations and refocused on the high-quality customer service and projects for which the company is well known in the industry. While we can not control the opinions of individuals, Hentges Construction continues to be open and proactive about both our success and failures. We readily admit the the economic collapse of 2008 had a negative impact on our business. However, Hentges Construction has never diminished in our ability and capacity to serve our clientele. In direct response to this review, the information given is incomplete. Hentges Construction provided over nine months of design, planning, and budgeting services to this customer. The customer was provided with all required notifications of their rights as an Illinois consumer and when the customer decided to exercise a right of rescission, the customer was provided with a deposit refund in proportion to their unused services. The customer was also provided with recourse to further utilize the services and products that were billed, but elected not to do so. The customer was unresponsive to ongoing attempts for remedies and chose to pursuit legal action to which they were entitled under the law. Hentges Construction was forced to defend the lawsuit and no judgement for relief was granted to the plaintiff. As an honorable company of dedicated craftspeople and business practices, we regret the decisions of this customer and understand that their actions are outside of our control other than the appropriate degree of remedies provided. The reference to felony convictions is untrue, unfounded and documented in the court system.
