My husband was in and out of the house all day, and I worked from home July 23rd to make sure Mr. Glisson?s crew could complete the job. We were not there to supervise his crew and judge the quality of their work hour by the hour, nor address the issues with any member of the crew. Quite frankly, that was Mr. Glisson?s job. We were quite disappointed that Mr. Glisson did not returned to our house at any time during that day to check on his crew and inspect their progress or quality of their work. To date Mr. Glisson has not offered to inspect his crew?s work in person with us, or discuss an amicable solution to our documented complaints. His initial email reply to me repeatedly attempts to shift blame for the poor work completed by his crew to us. Mr. Glisson implies that we improperly supervised his crew, that we should have watched them prepare each of the surfaces to be painted, and that we should have instructed them on the correct method of paint application to minimize the appearance of brush stokes. We once again asked Mr. Glisson via email on August 13th to meet with us at our house to review the paint job and discuss an amicable solution. We requested that he call my husband directly to schedule a time to meet with us in person. Mr. Glisson was made aware that Angie?s List was provided a copy of our August 13th email message, the original email and photos sent to him on August 4th. Mr. Glisson sent the following email only to my husband in response to our August 13th email:?I have had the opportunity to go to this house and look one final time at the work we performed, so as to see if I have overlooked something the first time. what I again see is a paint project performed on a 30 to 40 year old aluminum siding and even older windows . if we are going to be totally honest here when a report is given to e commerce or the review message board these things must be included. 1 - owners were home and looked at work at different times during the day and only had positive comments at that point. 2 - at the end of the project a walk around between my son and owner produced comments of" this house looks brand new "at least three times. 3 - more than the deal rules were performed (we purchased paint and dealt with owners not being organized with red paint) 4- more than two coats were put on in many areas when we discussed two would be included. 5- owner chose to use a higher glosspaint than the benj. moore AURA flat paint that we recommended 6- we were paid in full the money owed for paint 7- additional work was asked for by the owners and a quote was given that they accepted immediately asking for more of the same work completed immediately 8- localpeople stopped during the process and complimented the workers on the projectin front of the owners. again any correspondence or complaints with angies list must include these rocksolid facts. after looking at a few minor painting imperfections normally associated with this type of work . I would have to come to the conclusion that after the painters left and they looked close they realized that the $50 to $75 thousand dollars of upgrades that this house needs ( windows siding gutters soffits facia framing etc.) would not and could not be fixed by a 24hrs of painting and 2 gal of home depot paint. remember to tell the truth regarding the 8 facts I wrote down above . this is only fair for whomever reads it . premium home improvement will not send nor respond with any more e mails calls responses etc. thanks for reading walter glisson? This response is problematic and disturbing. Mr. Glissonstill refuses to meet with us in person to review the issues, yet his emailstates that he went to our house without our consent our knowledge to inspect his crew's work.We find it very disturbing that he would trespass on our property and walkdirectly up to our windows and doors while we were not present. He has crossed the line. We will not engage in any further communicationdirectly with Mr. Glisson again because of concerns of our personal safety. Mr. Glisson?s explanation of thesituation has shifted once again, and he still trying to shift responsibilityfor his crew?s poor paint job to us. He has never addressed the issue hiscrew?s failure to prepare the surfaces to be painted, and explained why theypainted over dirt. The brand ofpaint and paint finish chosen were done at Mr. Glisson?s recommendation (BEHRMarquee), and he specifically recommended the use of a Satin finish to both myhusband and I on at least two separate occasion with each of us prior topurchasing the paint. At no time did Mr. Glisson ever mention that Benjamin Moore AURA flat paint was hispreference. When we initially consulted Mr. Glisson he repeated remarked howwell our house has been maintained, and that the aluminum siding, trim andsoffits were in very good condition. Contrary to Mr. Glisson?s assertions, theoriginal windows of our house were replaced with vinyl windows approximately 10year ago, and they are in very good condition. We have confirmed the condition of our siding, trim, soffits, windows and garage door with other painting professionals when weobtained additional estimates to correct and finish the paint job. They alsostated that Mr. Glisson?s crew failed to prep the surfaces, painted over dirt, andclogged the venting on the soffits by painting them with brushes and paintingover dirt. Mr. Glisson?s descriptions of our exclamations of approval of hiscrew?s paint job grow larger and larger with each of his emails, and theysimply are not true. The described condition of our house also deterioratessuccessively with each of his emails. We will gladly provide additional photosto attest to the condition of our house. Mr. Glisson has not, and cannotprovide any photos to support statements. As we stated above, we will not engage in anycommunication directly with Mr. Glisson again because of concerns with ourpersonal safety. We are relying upon the complaint resolution process withAngie?s list to contact Mr. Glisson directly and provide an amicable solution.
Description of Work: The aluminum siding, aluminum soffits, trim and around our windows (updated vinyl windows) and garage door were to be painting on the front and sides of our brick house. Contrary to the terms of the deal, the surfaces were not power washed or cleaned in any way before painting and it resulted in an poor finish. You can see in the attached photos that piece of dirt and debris were simply painted over on the soffits and window frames. Less than half the house was actually painted during the time contracted. The window trim and aluminum siding were painted on the the sides of the house that face the street (we live on a corner lot). The garage door was not painted, and no areas on the back side of the house were prepped or painted. Use of a brush rather than a roller created extremely noticeable brush marks and a very uneven finish even where two coats of paint were applied. Paint drips were simply left to dry where they fell, even in very noticeable places by the entryways. **Mr. Glisson’s lack of communication with us has been problematic and very disappointing. I sent Mr. Glisson a follow up email on August 4th, a follow up text message on August 6th, and I also left a follow up voicemail on August 10th. All of the messages went unanswered until I contacted Angie’s list regarding the issues I identified in the messages and documented with photos sent to Mr. Glisson. In each message I requested that Mr. Glisson call my husband, Ruben Alvarez, directly to schedule an in person meeting to discuss and resolve amicably any issues that have arisen from our agreement to hire Premium Home Improvement to paint our house. Mr. Glisson sent a response to me via email, and he failed to copy my husband on the message, or contact us via phone as requested. We have repeatedly requested a face-to-face meeting with Mr. Glisson at our house so he could view the actual paint job and discuss the issues we described. In his e-mail reply, Mr. Glisson referred us to an individual named Daniel to discuss this matter. At no time did we discuss any business or purchase services from any individual named Daniel. When my husband and I initially met with Mr. Glisson at our house to discuss the term of the Angie’s list deal, Mr. Glisson explained that we had essentially purchased eight hours of labor for a team of three painters. At that meeting we discussed that the siding, soffits, window trim, doors and garage door would be power washed by Mr. Glisson’s crew prior to painting, and we were given an estimate that it would take approximately 1 extra hr of labor ($350) to complete the exterior house painting of our aluminum siding, window trim, door frames and garage door. On the day the house was painted Mr. Glisson once again provided a verbal estimate that it would take approximately 1 additional hour of labor to complete the painting job we discussed. All of the members of his crew were not present at the agreed starting time of 7:30 am on July 23rd. Mr. Glisson’s crew foreman arrived 30 minutes late, and Mr. Glisson was aware of this issue because he stayed to supervise his crew until the foreman arrived.Mr. Glisson’s paint crew took a lunch break as expected, but all 3 crew members stopped painting shortly before 3:00 pm and finished their clean up at 3:20 pm. At no time during the day did Mr. Glisson’s crew provide updates to me regarding any difficulties of the finish of the paint, or that it was going to take two coats of the white although they did show my husband when he returned home around 2:30 pm. They did not at anytime inform either of us that they would not complete the work that was agreed upon in the time allotted. At the end of the day Mr. Glisson’s crew foreman provided us an estimate for the work that was not completed. Mr. Glisson’s crew foreman made no effort to review the paint job but instead rushed me to write the check for the cost of the white trim paint so he could leave (I provided the gallon of red BEHR Marquee paint used on the house). The crew foreman was also insistent that we write the check without an actual receipt for the paint, but we insisted that he verify the actual cost of the paint and provide us with a receipt for our payment. In the 6.5 hours the crew of three men worked, less than half of the job was completed. We were left with a house exterior that was less than half painted. No attempt to paint the garage door, which part of our agreement, was ever started. As noted above, Mr. Glisson finally responded to my initial email after I contacted Angie’s list with my complaint. In the email I stated, “We are very unhappy with the results of the house painting, particularly the areas painted white. It's very evident that the house was not power washed or cleaned in any way before painting and it resulted in an (sic) poor finish. You can see in the attached photos that piece of dirt and debris were simply painted over on the soffits and window frames. Use of a brush rather than a roller created extremely noticeable brush marks and a very uneven finish even where two coats of paint were applied. Paint drips were simply left to dry where they fell, even in very noticeable places by the entryways.” Mr. Glisson responded with the following message:“We reviewed the photos. the response that you guys gave my workers at the end of the job was "the house looks brand new" If you guys had an issue, why didn't you mention it then? they had you review the work. You also had my son give you an estimate on the rest of the house. having him do that implies that you were satisfied with the work.. otherwise why would you continue to pursue our services? It doesn't add up. Also, you were home all day, and your husband was in and out all day, meaning that you guys had to have seen my guys using brushes to paint your trim. If you had an issue with "brush strokes" why did you fail to mention it..? I know they showed you that the paint was not covering in one coat, then they showed you where it covered in 2 coats. Did you not notice brush strokes then... If you did, why didn't you mention it? And what would you expect them to paint detailed trim with...? Again, doesn't add up. Finally, We are sorry that you guys have a sudden change of heart towards the paint job that was preformed, but my guys were told that the work was satisfactory. therefore there is nothing else we can do. we wish you the best of luck in completing the rest of your project. IF you have any immediate questions you can call Daniel at 708.705.1777. thanks” Contrary to the assertion in Mr. Glisson’s email, at no time did I, nor my husband state, “The house looks brand new". Mr. Glisson’s assertion that my husband was in and out of the house that day is correct. When my husband returned to the house after running errands, he did state that the house was starting to look good when he pulled into the driveway. This comment was made from observing the house the driveway as he got out of his car, viewing the house from the street and sidewalk. Mr. Glisson’s email stated, “that you guys have a sudden change of heart towards the paint job that was preformed (sic), but my guys were told that the work was satisfactory.” There was no sudden change of heart by us towards the paint job completed by Mr. Glisson’s crew. We attempted to contact him multiple times, identified and documented the issues, and consulted from other professional painters to determine how the poor quality of Premium Home Improvement’s work could be corrected. Mr. Glisson stated in his email reply that I asked for an estimate to finish the rest of the house, and in doing so, implied my satisfaction with the job. This is absolutely not true. We asked for a written estimate to compare with the verbal estimate provide by Mr. Glisson on the morning of July 23rd before he left our house. The verbal estimate provide on the morning of July 23rd to complete the remainder of the job ($350 for labor) was not even close to the written estimate provided at the end of the day by Mr. Glisson’s crew foreman ($900 for labor, plus an additional $100 for paint). Mr. Glisson’s email response failed to address why the house was not adequately prepared prior to painting, and why painting errors and drips were not remedied before paint dried. Without the proper surface preparation we can understand why it took two coats cover surfaces using brushes, and why dark streaks are clearly visible on surfaces. Mr. Glisson’s email states, “If you had an issue with ‘brush strokes’ why did you fail to mention it..? I know they showed you that the paint was not covering in one coat, then they showed you where it covered in 2 coats. Did you not notice brush strokes then... If you did, why didn't you mention it? And what would you expect them to paint detailed trim with...? We mistakenly trusted and assumed that Mr. Glisson’s crew would use the standard professional painting techniques for painting aluminum siding. After retroactively researching professional painting techniques for aluminum siding and soliciting estimates from other professional painters, we discovered that professional painters do not use a paint brush to paint aluminum siding or trim in small areas. Paint rollers come in different sizes, and small foam brushes are also used to paint detailed paint trim. Neither paint rollers nor small foam brushes method leaves brush marks. Mr. Glisson’s crew did not use the proper equipment to paint our house professionally. -- continued below:
