Another great job by Fidel! Previously they installed a beautiful stamp patio and now we wanted to upgrade the old driveway and walkways. I have first-hand experience at concrete construction and ready mix, so I had a keen eye on the project. Fidel had more than enough men and equipment to get the job done quickly. And the quality of their work is superior to most. If you are thinking of new concrete project, go with Fidel--you won't be disappointed!

We would have had to raise the sidewalk to eliminate this issue. The person who came out was really easy to talk to, understands my issues and lives in my neighborhood.

DeVega was incredibly professional and reasonably prices. They were incredibly punctual and very professional. Everyday they maintained the work site clean and noise was minimal. They were very well prepared and gave us updates continually. They manually removed our floor, prepped and installed in three days. I will definelty use DeVega again in the future and highly recommend them.

From the first meeting with the owner Fidel, I knew I had chosen the proper company. He explained all the details of the job that was going to be done. He even saw my front side walk was damaged and said he would repair that as well for a nominal fee. The day my side walks and stoop were demolished it was 95 degrees and they worked for over 8 straight hours. Same thing on the day of pouring the fresh concrete. The job they did was amazing! It looks so clean and neat. The men came a few times the next 2 days to water down the concrete then finally back three days later after concrete settled and filled in the areas with dirt where the framing was. I would highly recommend De Vega Concrete.
Description of Work: Completely dug up my side entrance walk, front side walk and demolished my side stoop. Framed the areas and poured concrete to replace old side walks and stoop. My side entrance needed to be completely demolished and it was roughly 25 feet long. My front side walk was 15 feet long and needed to be demolished.

Years ago, I worked in Concrete construction and later in Ready Mix Concrete, so I thought I would be more critical than most home owners. However, working with DeVega concrete was a pleasure from start to finish. The existing patio was larger with thicker concrete than most--but it all seemed easy, as Fidel DeVega assigned many men to the task and got it broke out and formed up in no time. These guys are no-nonsense and hard workers! Stamped and colored concrete is not easy and much more challenging--as it involves two different colors, plus stamping, layout, cure and seal, etc.... Not a problem for DeVega Concrete. Fidel (owner) was hands-on throughout the project and assured me that ultimate finish of the Stamped Concrete would look great. Our large 20x34 Stamped concrete Patio, sidewalk, and pad looks like stone and has a beautiful look that we will enjoy for many years. If you ever need concrete work done, I highly recommenD De Vega Concrete!!

Fantastic. As with anyone that is popular on Angie's List they were pretty busy. Communication was good if a little harried at times. I told them I was very flexible with the start date during the quote and initial scheduling and they arrived within a day of the originally schedule date. They removed the old floor with surgical precision and amazing quickness. There was little to no mess left behind from such a large undertaking. They removed the old concrete, laid the plastic and rebar, and had the inspector come by in half a day. Fidel talked with me about my concerns about sloping, exterior water, and foundation support. On the second day of work the new concrete was laid, troweled, and sloped just a we had discussed. My new garage floor looks great! I highly recommend DeVega concrete for any project. The price was right and the expertise was top notch.

Fidel was a pleasure to work with. He was prompt in responding back to us with a quote and installed the concrete pad a couple of weeks after we agreed to the estimate. He was able to install it in two days (Friday and Saturday) and scheduled the inspection with the Village of Oak Park for us. Great job.

We are extremely pleased with the work that was done. Fidel was very prompt and courteous, and he helped us think through our options, suggesting improvements that could be made. All aspects of the job proceeded smoothly, and the entire job was done in one day. The team really played close attention to the details. The concrete even had to be angled in front of our garage, so that it aligned with the uneven concrete in the garage. While this was a bigger job than we originally anticipated, the price was competitive, and we believe that we received excellent service. We are glad that we ended up replacing all the concrete, instead of the smaller-scale replacements that we explored.

From the very start Fidel was responsive and honest. He explained my options with the work I needed done and provided multiple price points for the different levels of effort. Once he provided the estimate, I sat on it for a bit and decided to go with Fidel. The project was pushed back a bit due to the flooding of early spring, but when the weather broke everything moved very quickly. Fidel came by and marked out the work needed to be done on a Sunday night, the concrete was gone by the time I came home from work the next day. The following day the inspection by the city took place and everything was approved. On the third day I came home to brand new concrete and a great feeling. The pitch was spot on and it looked great. I could not have been more pleased.
Description of Work: Replaced a crumbling stair and the front walk. Replaced the side walk from the front of the property to the alley. Pitched the concrete AWAY from the house and left space for draining near the fence. Raised the sidewalk to keep it in code. Applied and picked up permits for me to minimize my time away from work.

Fantastic! Although DeVega was extremely busy (I had to call him several times), he took care of the job (permit and all), within a 7-day time frame. - He started when he said he was going to, - did what he said he was going to do, and - let me know when the job was completed. On top of that, he sent me pictures to get my approval and to let me know how well things turned out. I would use and recommend DeVega again.
Description of Work: I contacted DeVega to help get my house ready to be listed on the market. More specifically, I told him that I generally wanted cosmetic concrete patching (some of our sidewalk squares were cracked), but he insisted on doing a thorough job.

Fidel was quick to respond and provide an estimate. He showed up on time, quickly reviewed the property needs, and provided a written estimate within 24 hours. The work was provided within a short time-frame and delivered on-time and on-bduget. Fidel was also willing to provide extra services at no additional charge. (examples: movement and stacking of some pavers that were in the area of the yard being excavated, removal of additional yard waste as room was available in the truck) Overall, the company provided more than I expected at a reasonable price and was extremely responsive.

Based on the positive reviews here, I contacted Fidel for an estimate on removal of some existing concrete steps and a parking pad and the work to be done to replace them with new. My existing concrete steps are crumbling and need to be replaced. Fidel's quote was reasonable as compared to a few others and I found him to be the most patient, communicative, and inspiring of my trust to proceed. Since that time, I have modified the project scope to have the steps built out in wood by a separate contractor for aesthetic reasons. Fidel happily accommodated with an updated estimate. I have made my down payment and expect the work to begin soon, we are currently waiting for the city to approve our work permit. Since it involves removal of an existing parking pad and the creation of a new walkway in the city parkway, the village needs to review the work plans before the permit can be issued. Throughout this process, Fidel has been communicative, helpful and patient. I'm anxious to begin the work.
Description of Work: remove parking pad, concrete stoop and steps, parking pad apron and curb. Replace steps and porch area with new foundation for wooden steps to be built separately, extend a walkway from the side of the house to the sidewalk, add a service walkway from the street to the sidewalk, and insert a paver walkway at the foot of the new stairs out to the sidewalk.

So far, I am happy with the results. They came in, jackhammered the damaged portions of the floor, removed the material and prepped the repair area in one day. They poured and finished the concrete the next day (due to rainy weather). Besides analyzing and recommending repairs, they obtained the appropriate permits, and coordinated the village inspection. There was one hitch, which affected the final price. Their original quote included the wrong cost for our villages' permit. When Fidel discovered the problem, he contacted me immediately. I had no problem paying the difference. i've really enjoyed work with DeVega and will do so in the future. Fidel and his employees worked hard to do a great job and keep us happy. They worked around our schedule (he originally provided his quote in August, and performed the work in October). We found them very easy to work with.
Description of Work: Garage floor repair. We had huge, deep cracks in the floor of our our 2-1/2 car garage. They ran the full length and width of the garage. The way the cracks ran cause one section, near the overhead door, to raise up approx. 1 inch. Because of this, the door would not close flush with the floor, and created a gap. This gap allowed rain, snow and leaves to blow in. During the winter months, we would get small drifts, and small piles of leaves during the fall months. They removed majority of the apron, and approximately 50% of the existing floor. Repoured the concrete, patched the outer foudation, and several other minor cracks.

Fidel from De Vega Concrete responded within two days of our initial inquiry, and he came over on the evening of the second day. He gave us three different options for an estimate because we weren't sure that we could afford the entire job. He took his time, explaining what would be involved and made a few recommendations about what might be done. While it took us awhile to get two other estimates from vendors, when we announced our decision to Fidel, the process moved quickly and professionally. He secured permits, revisited our house to confirm the original estimate, and his crew completed the job within three business days. We are very pleased with the final result. Every aspect of the job, from phone calls to follow-up service, was handled in a courteous and prompt fashion. I'd recommend this place to anyone.
Description of Work: We had our back sidewalks, basement stairs, and part of our driveway concrete replaced. As a result, the backyard looks significantly improved; the walkways have been widened, and the stairs and driveway are greatly improved.

I thought the project went very well. Fidel made several revisions to has proposal as I modified the scope. I got the permits which I believe saved me both time and money and I really appreciated his recommendation to put in the 3 down spout extensions. The work was done professionally al the way through and the only inspection I needed to be present for was the apron because it is in the public way. The concrete pours on both days went well and the concrete looked great. A couple days later I noticed that the garage door would not open. I checked and there was power going out from the house to the garage but there was no power in the garage. Fidel agreed to send someone out the repair the line if they could find the break. I suggested that he could consider simply trenching to the garage instead of locating the break if that was simper and I would run new conduit. SInce there did not appear to be any uncertainty in simply trenching to the garage Fidel had his guys do that even though it ended up being much more work than expected due to the vast number of roots from an old elm that had been cut down the year before. More than a year latter it looks great and there are no cracks. I am very happy with the way this project went.
Description of Work: My driveway needed to replaced. It was (about 180' long) on my property plus the apron (about 15') on between the sidewalk and the street. DeVega Concrete removed the old drive, installed 15' underground down spout drain lines for three dounspouts, put down a new 4" compacted gravel, 6x6 wire mesh formed and poured a new drive, sidewalk (at the drive) and the apron.

I called a few companies to get estimates. We had a few hiccups getting Fidel to our house for the initial estimate (he kept running late). Our initial request was just for a concrete patio. After meeting with Fidel, he noticed the sidewalk along the gangway and the first step in the front were in bad shape. He provided an estimate for all of the work, which was the best of the 3. I was able to see his work in my town, since he had just completed 2 projects within 2 blocks of my house. It can be an incredibly difficult place for contractors to do business, so I wanted someone with experience in our town. We signed the contract, gave him the deposit and within a week he scheduled the initial demolition. Fidel's crew spent one day demoing, pouring the gravel and wire mesh. We had to wait one full day so the inspector could review the work. We passed the first time. The next day, Fidel's team poured the concrete and sealed it. That evening, we were walking on it. The team worked very fast, and the work seems to be of high quality. I am very happy with the results. We would definitely hire Fidel again.

OUTSTANDING, PROFESSIONAL, GREAT VALUE and GREAT QUALITY work. Period. From the estimate process, to the start, execution and completion of the job, this company was outstanding. The owner kept me informed of the details of each process and kept me updated frequently as to the timeline of the job. Once they started on the job; each phase of the project was carried out as expected and within the timeline expected. (The schedule was modified slightly to accommodate the April rains, and ensure high quality work). The outcome is excellent and exceeds my expectations. I am recommending this company to friends, neighbors, and co-workers and will definitely hire again for future work.

Overall it went very well. They initially gave us a quote that was competitive with other quotes we'd received. We chose De Vega because we felt very comfortable with Fidel and liked that they are located not too far(5 miles) from our home. After having them out and looking hard at what we wanted, we changed the original plans more than once. Fidel was patient and re-quoted the work that we wanted to have done. One area that we were especially happy with was that De Vega dealt with our town in getting the permits. Other quotes we had stated that we would have to get the permits. It didn't factor into our decision in whom to chose, but we're glad De Vega handled this as our town can be a bit of a pain to deal with. The crew that came out to do the driveway were professional and did a great job. They tore out the old driveway and prepared everything for concrete in one day. They were able to pour concrete the following day. Sorry to say one of my sons friends stepped into the newly poured concrete. The crew didn't get upset or make a big deal about it, they just repaired the area and went back to work. The pavers on walk and front stoop were the final part of the project. This was an area of concern for us because we really wanted it to dress up the front of our home. We couldn't be happier as the pavers have a great look and the shape of the walk up is better than it was before. Fidel and his crew did a great job. Fidel had to deal with my wife and I depending on who was around, and we both felt that he was honest and good to work with. We'd like to replace our back porch with pavers or stamped concrete next spring. De Vega will be the first company we have come out to look at the project.

Fidel provided several quotes to us initially and quickly - he mentioned that due to the season, we would be able to do pavers for a very reasonable price, and he provided both quotes. We elected to not go the pavers route, but he was definitely correct that the price was very reasonable. Once we had agreed to the quote, and provided a small and reasonable deposit, it was about 4 weeks before we could schedule the work. Once scheduled, the team completed the job in about a day and a half (and could have been done sooner, except that I was not home on the first day and Fidel didn't want to start the pour without confirming everything with me). The team was professional and very efficient. Throughout the entire process, Fidel did a great job of explaining exactly what they were doing and WHY. This was very reassuring to me and my wife. The final product is excellent and we are very pleased!
Description of Work: We contracted for two different items on the same job - one was removal of our existing asphalt driveway and replacement with concrete, and the other was removal of our wooden front porch and replacement with a concrete stoop.

UPDATED: the stoop, poured last fall has a crack and the sealing that was supposed to have been performed this spring was never done. The stoop is cracked and the sidewalk has chunks coming off and it's pitching more toward the house...what a mess! I am so disappointed.. I hired Fidel, based on his reviews and my initial contact with him, and it was a huge mistake. I don't know if he just has issues with single women or what, but it was a mess from the start of the work. He told me one thing and then it changed and he never talked with me or explained; he was always commenting to 'let him decide,' but he wasn't here; he was never on site, as promised, during the removal, or anything to do with the actual stoop, or power washing of the driveway. When it was all over, he yelled at me in the front yard because i would not back down and was not intimidated by his bravado; after that i let them go. At best the 'new' stoop may last, but it is not what i wanted, and i know he knew what i wanted, because his workers on site had the picture that he and i drew during a pre-work visit. Of course, no one on site could speak English and Fidel was no where to be found (in class he said) and finally the concrete driver tried to interpret. The concrete is chipping on the sides of the sidewalk (and no, nothing touched it this winter - no salt or even a shovel); the sidewalk is way too high on one side; the slope is toward the house and now away from the house, and I'll have to get that redone at a minimum. the way they built up the sidewalk meant i could not have my step on the front, which i could live with even though i have to jump up to get on the stoop. What really upset me was the side - i was clear that i wanted a step down on the side and after hours of trying to explain to people who spoke a different language since Fidel was not on site or available to his men, i didn't get what i wanted. And Fidel never acknowledged they made a mistake or that they were wrong, it was always someone else at fault. He was, at best, condescending, treating me like some type of idiot. He said i didn't need a step that i needed to re-grade my entire yard and put in dirt to manage what he screwed up. All i wanted was for him to acknowledge they made a mistake and help arrive at a workable solution; he just wanted to yell at me. And, during all this mess, I'm trying to work from home - yes, i have a full time job, but i cannot tell you how much time i spent over this little stoop and sidewalk. I now have to pay someone to power wash my driveway again so they can seal it (for much less BTW than DeVega) and figure out what to do with this mess of concrete in my front yard. Every time i pull in my driveway and see what he did , i get angry all over again so i have to get it fixed and let this go. Update 7/10/12: · I never requested stamped concrete; he tried to up-sell that to me. stamped concrete would be much more difficult for me to maintain in the winter. · there was never any discussion about an architect or engineer needed for elevation; I was ?assured? by Mr DeVega on what he would do. He told me no problem on the step. · The day they set the frame was not supposed to be the day of the pour. · Mr DeVega was supposed to be on-site, and he was not. · They were to frame it, get it inspected and then pour two days later. · Mr DeVega changed the plan and did not call me or notify me. · I found out when I saw the concrete truck pull up. (I was also working at home at the time; I had to end up taking vacation time to deal with his mess) · None of his crew spoke English; none. They could not have gotten an approval from me; they did not understand me. The driver of the concrete truck had to translate. · I had no choice but to let them pour; this was November and I had nothing in my front yard and if they didn?t pour then they would not give me a future date · I had no idea of how they were sloping the sidewalk when pouring the concrete; that is not what I do for a living. I was inside working and when I came out it was covered in burlap. I did not see the sidewalk until they removed that a few days later. · I know Mr DeVega recalls this as he and I several heated conversations on his inability to communicate. And, the settlement was for him to come in the spring and seal this stoop and side walk. He also says he warranties his work; well the stoop is cracking, where?s the warranty on that and all the other issues that I have documented in the pictures?
Description of Work: remove existing stoop and sidewalk, pour new smaller stoop, new sidewalk, powerwash driveway and seal

Response from DeVega Concrete LLC
I work with the member for three months prior to start work. She wanted stamp concrete initial estimate was much more. Second visit change to regular concrete + size. I informed her that correction elevations are determine at field time. She has choice to hire architect or engineer for precise elevation. The step scenario was not a sure thing based on run + ruse of yard. Her yard was back sloping the whole time that’s why it seem to need a step. We agreed on start date and on her being there for frame work approval due to step scenario. On day of pour – she approves frame work – Inspector approves pre pour, we order concrete per her approval. Concrete is being pour + she changes her mind. I instruct crew to cancel pour + clean up site. She instructs them to proceed. I talk with her to confirm. She approves, we continue. End of day I show up. She is not happy, I’m not happy. Why would she instruct to proceed if that not what she wants. I can not make counter-offer. I am sadden that I could not work with this customer. As agreed on date of work she would be on site for approval of frame work. When work was frame + per her approval, after inspector approved pre-pour. I ordered concrete. When concrete was at site + pouring was in progress. She changes her mind, “that not what I want. I instruct my crew to stop the pour. Send ready mix truck back. I spoke to customer via phone and she insisted to proceed with pour. I informed her that its cheaper for me to send truck back + have time for us to review work prior to pouring than for me to pour and break out + repour. She insisted on pouring. A final inspection was perform + further settlement was conducted with the member.
