+ -1 moreThis young man is the first 'con' man I have ever dealt with in repairing my home. He cashed the check the same day, and that was it. He had three phone numbers, only one worked.. the others had been shut off. I called him more than fifteen times in seven weeks, not the 5-7 days I was promised, and still no bricks, no work performed. He kept telling me he would be there the next day to get started. I found out he had been evicted from his business address, his phones disconnected. I contacted Better Business Bureau with complaint, he did not respond to them. I am working with the Small Claims court at present. His criminal record extends back 14 years in this county, here is the link from court public records access http://www.mcleancountyil.gov/circuitclerk/PA_Court_Cases.asp?per_person_id=100112807, and there are more than 10 other people looking for Mr. Van. Under no circumstances should anyone ever give Mr. Van any money in advance. I had to hire someone else to do the work, so I could get my new roof completed shortly thereafter.
Description of Work: I had contracted with Mr. Van to repair a chimney. He required a 'retainer fee' of $375 to buy new bricks. He told me it would be 5-7 days. As I needed to have the chimney repaired before the roof was replaced, that met my schedule. I made out the check to Van's Masonry, just like the business card he handed me. He said it would have to be made out to Derrick Van, instead of the business name, so I made out another check and voided the first.

+ -1 moreThe project NEVER happened. The business owner, Mr. Derrick Van, took the money and ran.
Description of Work: Mr. Derrick Van did not perform the installation of three glass block windows. He has not provided the goods or services agreed to in writing and has not refunded the $1000.00 that I gave him in June 2009. He will not return my phone calls or texts. Buyer's beware..............going to court!
