We hired Mr. Hayes to put up a large carport for us. He gave us an estimate of $600.00 labor (we had already purchased the carport materials). This gentleman only worked for a couple of hours at a time, and we never knew when he would show up again to continue the work. After coming to our house several times, he finally "finished" the job. It looked to us like he did a fine job, even moving a bullet light on the front of our garage, putting up guttering along the sides of the carport, and sealing the carport to the garage so that it wouldn't leak down the front of the garage. There were a couple of additional small items that he said he wanted to finish, but we went ahead and paid him the $600.00. Not such a good idea. Despite several calls to him about setting a time to finish the small items, we have not heard from him again. And we now know, after a rain, that he did not seal where the metal pieces of the carport fit together, so our carport leaks. And we're not even sure if he put in the right amount of bolts to hold the pieces together. Needless to say, we're going to have to find another handyman to come and check on these problems. And by the way, Mr. Hayes requested to be paid in cash, so we can't even put a stop payment on a check. We will not be hiring Mr. Hayes to do any more handyman work for us.
