We had two mahogany garage doors about 13 years old that were peeling and needed help. Justin and crew removed the doors, took them to his shop, stripped them down to bare wood, refinished the doors with a German oil. They now look better than original. It took longer than projected, but he said the products tried first did not look right. At the end, they look awesome. He is polite, felt like an honest transaction and I am very pleased with the end product.
Description of Work: Removed, refinished and replaced 2 wooden garage doors.

It took a little longer than anticipated based on conflicts with other jobs (somewhat anticipated), but there was sufficient in-project flexibility, the work was high quality, there were no surpirses and Justin is trustworthy and a pleasure to deal with. We brought him back to do some stairwell follow-on work and while we were disappointed we conuldn't come up with the right transition pieces for the foyer, this was really more of a manufacturer issue. We settled up for both projects fairly returning extra product through his contractor's retail contacts and having him come back some months later to inspect how things held up. We are please with the craftsmanship, especially with Justin;s creativity and meticulous nature with the other transition pieces. Bottom line, Justin is talented and trustworthy.
Description of Work: Flooring replacement - carpet, some tile and baseboard removal, replaced with bamboo hardwood with transition pieces.

Got a great estimate from them, and they talked a great talk. We scheduled a start date, but they kept postponing it. They postponed it over and over and set me back months!! Then, they finally told us they were just not able to find the time do the work. I think they underbid the job, and had no intention of ever doing the work. VERY frustrating experience, not to mention wasting months of my time!!!
Description of Work: Work was supposed to be remodeling a porch. New flooring, new walls and new ceiling.

Response from Orwig Renovation & Design
This was a regretful encounter. While we did speak with the owner on several occasions and discuss budget and costs, we never signed a contract or officially agreed to do the work. We were deep into a very large project at that time and were not able to allot the time needed to provide the quality of service each of our customers deserve. In addition, the budget that the owner had given us to work with was far less than was needed to properly perform the work and bring it to code (the property was a lower cost rental). The work requested required a greater degree of invasion than we felt the owner wanted to pursue at the time. Doing it any other way would have required us to compromise our standards of quality and professional workmanship. We did refer two other contractors to her that were qualified workmen who may have been more able to serve her needs. We always require that a contract be in place so that there is no confusion about the scope of work or the costs; and we will in no way compromise the quality of our work just to get a job. I would rather say "no" and pass on an opportunity than take on a job that does not fit our profile or our ability to schedule. As always, we strive to be a company that offers only high end workmanship as well as an impeccable service experience throughout the project.

The removal of the carpet revealed that the subflooring in my condo was shot. We added in replacing that as well. The hardwood was installed in a timely fashion, and everything else was done right on the timeline as well. (There was a brief snafu with flooring but that was on ME, not on Justin or his crew.) Everyone who came into my house was professional, personable and CLEAN. At the end of the day, the space was cleaned up EVERY DAY. As we were living in the space while work was going on, it was nice to have it picked up and organized so that we could watch a bit of tv or make dinner. Justin even came back when there was something that did not work right at the end of it all and fixed it right away. He was a dream to work with and I would have him back to do work in my home anytime. I can't recommend him enough.
Description of Work: Orwig came in and removed my carpet and installed hardwood flooring. They also replaced all the trim throughout my house, replaced all the interior doors and doorframes, remodeled my fireplace surround and installed new tile in front of the fireplace, and built new sliding doors on my reach in closet.

We now have a beautiful stairway in our home addition, thanks to Justin's work. He worked closely with my wife and me throughout the process to keep costs down and to meet our expectations. We really appreciated his willingness to accommodate our tastes and ideas for how the project should be carried out, and his open style of communication. Once the work began, Justin was prepared to stick with it until it was completed -- probably about three day's work in all. His truck broke down in the middle of the project and that threw the schedule off, but Justin did not just disappear without telling us what was happening, and he came back to finish our job a few days later even though that meant he had to reschedule other jobs. I enjoyed working with Justin because he seems to really care about doing a quality job. There are always little glitches in any complicated construction project like stair building, and this project was no exception, but we were always able to work through them, and the end product turned out well.
Description of Work: Justin Orwig installed one flight of prefinished oak stair parts and a 9' rail along the top side of the stairwell with two Newel posts and 20 balusters. Justin did the work personally and I served as his helper, as needed. We consulted regularly about the project details -- on things like how to create a coordinated tie between the stair parts and the hardwood flooring that I am installing around the stairwell. My wife was the overall project designer. The job was located inside a new addition to the house my wife and I are living in. Justin's work was done on top of already existing roughed-in stairs that had been installed by the original builder of this part of the house. I supplied the parts for the job (the treads, the skirts, the posts, etc.). So, Orwig's price did not include the cost of the rough-in, the oak parts, any design costs, or any labor costs for a helper. It is important to note how much of the total job was not included in Orwig's price, since I don't want to mislead readers into thinking $1300 will buy them an oak stairway from Orwig or anyone else.

The work crew (two men) arrived on the day and time expected. The owner, Justin Orwig, came as well and got his men started. He spent time with us discussing details, such as transitions between the kitchen/dinning room and the living room/den. He also discussed color preferences, finish details, etc. He was very accomodating and sought to get a clear understanding of our expectations. Later Justin brought a couple of sample stains and tested them to get our feedback. The two man crew needed a little over two days to complete the sanding (approximately 1,000 sq ft of floor plus a large landing and 16 steps, including risers). We were extremely happy with how well they limited dust. They used a Festool vaccuum attachment to their sanders which almost completely eliminated any dust. Some minor floor repair was needed around two cold air returns (our home was built in 1915 and the floors are original), which Justin handled personally. Justin's crew applied the stain and Justin applied the finish, all three coats. We are very happy with the end result. It was of excellent quality and completed within a day of the orignal target date. I defintely would recommend to anyone Justin's company for refinsihing harwood floors. We don't have any experience with his other work as yet, but we have made plans for him to do some ceiling and window work later this month.
Description of Work: Refinished oak hardwood floors on the main level, oak stairs, and fir hardwood floors on the upper level.
