At first I wasn't sure if I would be able to schedule them as soon as I wanted; we bought an old house in June, they are busy with schools during the summer, and they wanted to see it before giving me a number. They are only a handful of ILPH-certified asbestos contractors in towns around Champaign-Urbana (user-unfriendly listing at idph.state.il.us when it will load), and the others are just as busy with school/commercial jobs in the summer, but I did find one that could do it on short notice and gave me a proposal for $2500 based on pictures I emailed. I asked IDEAL for a ballpark date and number because if it wasn't reasonably soon or significantly less I was going to take the other option, but when they suggested they could do it during an evening for $1500-2000 I had them come and take a look. During the inspection I stupidly told them about my $2500 quote, and not surprisingly they offered to do it for $2300, which is why I am giving them a B for price when I think it would have been an A if I'd played my cards correctly. The workers came as scheduled soon afterwards, and I spent the better part of a day at work very concerned after the workers called to say they might not be able to get at all of the insulation (a point I had worried about and therefore asked about on both bids, and thus my ding on the "Professionalism" category), but with my permission they cut out a little bit of old drywall that was in the way and got everything out. To be safe I had independent air tests done afterwards and they found no signs of asbestos.
Description of Work: They removed asbestos-containing insulation from about 50 feet of pipes in our home basement.
