In short- They take your money and run! I had to sue them to get a fraction of the costs due to all the damages that was caused by their work. The details- I own a 2 story apartment building and in Nov 2014 they told me my roof was in terrible shape and was going to fail soon. I believed them and I hired them to perform a partial roof repair. I was told in writing the job was finished and I paid them in full ($7,400) in Jan 2015 (I am not a professional roofer, so I believed them). Over a year passed (rain, snow, etc) and since I had no roof leaks, I thought they had fixed my roof.... however- I failed my rental inspection in May 2016 because it was not finished! I contacted the company by 2 phone numbers, email and by text. I have gotten the run around from the owners Chad O'Brien and his wife Anna. Promises and vague dates of when it will be finished. I had several other roofing companies evaluate what I paid them for and what appeared to have been done. Turns out, they didnt do ANY roof repair. They put on a gutter and put felt on the parapet. Of the $7,400 I paid them it was estimated they DIDN'T DO nearly $4,000 worth of work! They promised to come and finish it by the end of Sept. with Chad saying he will "make good on the job". Well, they didn't come- even after giving them a few more days due to rain. I contacted my lawyer and started a breach of contract suit. A day later they come out, took off a 10'x10' section of the roof, put on some OSB, ice and water shield and covered it with felt and left at the end of the day. A huge rain storm came in late that night and through mid morning. Flooded both stories of my apartments and basement, ceilings are on the floors.... My husband called them and they sent 2 guys who laid down a tarp that didn't properly cover the area and put a paint container on each corner. At least the rain stopped. They caused over $26,000 in damages to 2 apartments. As they were in the middle of doing work- my insurance company denied my claim. Only after getting my lawyer involved did they report it to their insurance company. After 5.5 months I finally settled. My total damages, legal fees and lost income was over $31,000. Unfortunately I was only able to receive $21,000 (of which Chad O'Brien only had to pay $2,000). To sum up- I paid to H&O Roofing for incomplete work- $7,400 Work actually done- $3,400 (doing the math- Chad scammed $4,000 off of me) My total loss- $31,000 I received a total of $21,000 (unrecovered loss of $10,000) of this, H&O Roofing only had to pay $2,000 (which means, they scammed $2,000 off of me) They are unprofessional, scammers that do poor work. AVOID THEM!!

I had a completely lousy experience with this contractor. We had a leak in our roof and contacted H & O to come fix it. They came out and determined that our chimney flashing would need to be replaced and the work was estimated at $450. They expected to have the work completed within a week. A week came and went and we tried to contact them. They apologized and said they were busy but it'd definitely be within the next 2 weeks. During this time, we still had a hole in our roof so we were still getting water damage and other issues. Towards the end of the 2 weeks we call again and they tell us that they are going to get to it real soon. They actually seemed indignant that we were calling and told us that they "Told us it would be 2 weeks..." Never mind that the 2 weeks had already come and gone... We still weren't able to get them to specify a specific date. The delays continued throughout the next week which was before a weekend where we were expected to have lots of rain and storms so we really wanted to get the problem resolved. Two days before the storms they finally call us and tell us that they can get it done that next day and that the estimate is $900 dollars. Essentially they waited until the last minute (after leading us on for a month), doubled the estimate, and left us with little choice if we wanted to avoid further water damage. I tried to call them back to ask why they doubled the estimate they hung up on me. After that, I left several messages for they to discuss the estimate but all my calls were ignored and my messages were not returned. Overall this experience left me with a horrible taste in my mouth for this shady and unprofessional company. We ended up going with a different company who were able to complete the work within a week. The flashing just needed to be resealed and the work cost $125 as opposed to the $900 H & O estimated. Avoid this company at all costs, they are unethical and unprofessional.
Description of Work: This was for a leak in a roof around the chimney flashing.
