Back in 2021 we had D&R come out to fix a main water break. We had to pay $4000 upfront deposit (which we were fine with) as the whole estimate was around 6,000. Come day of repair Richard told us he replaced the pipe from the meter to the house connection. He came in and charged us $5,588.00 MORE. What are we going to do? Not pay him? He also told us that due to our yard being left in complete disarray he would send a sub contractor he uses to flatten our yard back out once the dirt and sand settled. That way we could start planting grass seed and get our yard back to the way he found it. NEVER HAPPENED. We still have hills and valleys in our front yard. Fast forward to this past weekend 7/27, our main water line burst again. Instantly called Richard and was given high estimates to fix. After the last time I was skeptical but it was obvious he didn't want to help. I understand warranty and the pipe was no longer covered. We dug the hole ourselves to avoid the 2500 he quoted us over the phone to dig by hand and had another plumber come to find out D&R did not replace the hose to the connection at the house like we were charged for, instead he hooked up the black farmer pipe that was a couple feet from the house connection. (I still have the receipt) Every plumber we have spoken to since says we were completely taken advantage of and the cost of the original repair should not have exceeded $5,000. Complete extortion of the situation. So here we are not even 2.5 years later paying to fix the issue D&R made us pay for. I can not in good conscience recommend this company. We are STILL paying for this repair, and have more on top of it now that it has broke again.

I want to say that I am sorry for the leak, but it was 3 years ago & it was on the upside of the repairs that was done 3 years ago. The original work was not from the inside. To have it done on the inside would be much more involved & would require excavation on the inside of the home. In regards to the outside - We all agree to have the whole line replace up to the home as close as possible & to have it replace out to the meter meter in the yard as well. Again there was no way to guarantee how the pipes were running under the slab under the home & all the cost / repairs were agreed on back over 3 years ago and was approved and inspected by the local inspector & paid in full with no issues. Now its three years later, the quote from this past weekend was from my excavator to come back out & that was even to have it done on a Sunday as you called on Saturday. I am sorry, but it was a weekend and a Sunday as you requested. I mentioned to your husband that if he was to dig up the area & to have just myself come out to make repairs would be about $400 depending on parts. He showed me pic and was able to get a friend to fix the broken pipe that was clearly on the upside of the repairs. The existing black PVC water line can get very brittle & there is even a chance of future cracks are breaks in the future as your husband is very much aware can happen again. Your husband called me & thank me for my time over the weekend & was appreciative for my comments & recommendations on how to save money. He also wished me well on my family issues that we are going thru & I knew that if he was able to get the area open for a spot repair, the repairs would be easy. I am always open to my customers & have been in business for over 25 years. We are family owned & operated, I am again happy that it is all fixed & working & glad that I was able to work with your husband on my suggestions to help him thru this process to get the line fixed so that it was not as much, especially over the weekend. Thanks again - Richard

Richard came with his father Richard and they worked to fix the problem, delt with the insurance company for me. They were honest, fast, efficient and didn't cost me an arm and a leg they actually helped me save some money and gave me some tips to help keep the problem from happening again. I not only will recommend them to anyone I'll be calling them for any work i need done for plumbing heating and air. Absolutely professional company with very nice people that care more about helping than making a quick buck.
Description of Work: We had a problem with our kitchen sink and the plumbing. Tried to go through our insurance company to fix it. One company didn't show up twice; he misunderstood the day then he blamed his secretary for sending him somewhere else. The next company got the claim from the insurance company didn't bother to call and schedule a time to come out just showed up demanded to be petty in insisting they drove all the way out to us. I was at a store about 30 minutes from my house when my teens babysitting my toddlers said someone was at the door. the company proceeded to call me and insist they come in. They never schedule anything with me and I was not about to let anyone in the house with my kids when i wasn't home. I tried to refile the claim have them SCHEDULE a time to come back out there denied to claim said i wouldn't let them in. Finally D&R plumbing, heating & air came through. Richard called me the day i made the claim said he had a few appointments but wanted to get out to me asap asked when if there was a time that was good for me in the next 24-48hrs. Then he called the morning of just to confirm it was a good time then tell me he was on his way.

Had sewer line cleaned and was charged $425.00 which was 3 times what we paid a different company for the exact same service three years earlier. Job took about 30 minutes and was done during normal business hours, on a week day, and was just a basic rotor rooter with no camera. Was shocked by the price and will not recommend to friends and neighbors unless they want to be overcharged. No problem with the workmen or service but do not believe their Yellow Page ad that states "No Outrageous Flat Rates".

Mark was told price up front and that there was a main blockage in the line, We had to use our heavy duty machine to open up the line and it took more than 30 minutes, We always have to have two skill technicians for main line cleaning of the sewer lines and the entire system was checked, They were happy with the service and did not complain about writing out the check for the service work that was done. Mark was also told that there could be some other issues with the sewer line, because we could only go out approximate 35 feet. We made it clear that if we would have to return that there would be no additional charges and that we would come back out and auger the line again with no charge and we would also run the camera for free as well to help determine if there is an issue out in their yard approximate 35 feet. I do not know of a company out there that will offer that guarantee. We are always willing to work with our customers and do our best to let them know the costs up front. We work hard to provide the best service possible for our customers and appreciate your feedback.

We are sorry that you feel this way on this service call -- This was not our fault and we did try to fix the leak that was at one of his valves and there appeared to be no other leaks and that the freon was holding at the time of the service work. Owner was made aware that the repair might not hold and that there could be a leak in the coil if the freon leaks back out, and if it does that he might have to replace the coil. When [member name removed] called to have our company come back out, Our HVAC tech was not available at that time and was willing to come out after hours the same day at no additional charge, but That was not fast enough for [member name removed]and he called out a different company. We told [member name removed]that we would credit the previous charge to the replacement of the coil, But we were not able to get out to his residence as fast as we wanted us to respond. But, We did respond and the charges were broken down and it was 2.5 hours and not 3.5 and that is what the ticket shows. We are always willing to work with our customers and do our best to let them know the costs up front. We work hard to provide the best service possible for our customers and appreciate your feedback.

Richard called and said he would pick up the keys to the home on a particular day. He offered since he was going to be out. He did not show up that day but called the next day. He offered no apology or reason to why he did not show up. He promised that one of his guys will pick the keys up the next day. They did come to my work, which is located 4 minutes from where the home is that needed the repair. The gentleman that picked up the keys was the same guy that had done the previous work for me. He was always very nice and professional. After approximately one hour, the service guy called me at work to tell me that the "main" was cracked causing the sewer to back up and come out the toilet drain (no toilet on the drain at the time... just capped off). He said he would unclogged the drain but would need to excavate and replace the "main". He said they could do it the next day and would bring back my keys. He returned to work with my keys after a total of 1 hour and 50 minutes. This is the total time from when he picked up my keys, fixed the clogged and return my keys back. He said the bill was $467.00. I disputed the bill stating it was too much for two hours of work. He stated he needed to have two guys. I never hired two guys and was not informed there was going to be a charge for two guys. I asked the gentleman in the truck with this service guy if he was a licensed plumber and he stated "NO". He was also trying to charge me for picking up the keys and returning them even though Richard, the owner, offered to do this and did not tell me there was a fee for it. Long story short they tried to charge me over $200 per hour to unclog a drain. They did not clean anything and did not replace any parts. I will NEVER use them again. I have heard from several people that they were very expensive and they have a reputation of over-charging.
Description of Work: I called D&R to have a sewer leak in my basement repaired. They have done work for me on two other occasions (one electric and one plumbing). Both times before I thought that they were a little on the high side but they were prompt in response and professional. Therefore, I called them on this issue.

I am sorry that you feel this way on the service call -- First I did apologize and it was for a personal family matter that I was not able to get out that day and you were fine with that, and said that coming out the next day was fine and we had it arranged for the sevice to be done. The charges were given up front and we always have two men on a main line augering, It is a big piece of equipment and it does take two service techs to operate that equipment and for safety reasons as well. The charges was for the time it took for the augering and past the first hour for opening up the main line, which you were very well made aware that it might take more than an hour because of the roots and debris in the line. The line was cleared and flushed out multiple times. I always give our charges up front in regards to augering, because there are those factors that can come up and unforseen issues that part of the augering trade. In this particular case the repair did turn out to be more than a standard augering due to some additional work necessary in your case, because it took longer to clear the line. Those charges were made aware to you up front and you gave us the approval and the keys to proceed with the job. We are always willing to work with our customers and do our best to let them know the costs up front. We work hard to provide the best service possible for our customers and appreciate your feedback. .

I called the office number on a Saturday morning and left a message. My phone call was returned almost immediately by Richard who offered to come out that day or first thing Monday morning and gave me estimates for each option (Saturday is considered overtime). Given the minor impact my issue had on my life, I decided to wait until Monday. Richard himself arrived right at 7:00am, as promised. He and the gentleman he brought with him brought in their equipment, fixed my problem, and were gone within 45 minutes. While they were there, they had total respect for my home and for my two small dogs that like to bark at visitors. They even took extra steps so as to avoid distubing my normal routine. I was charged what I expected as I have had this type of call with D&R many times before. I am always extremely happy with the service I receive.

I called D & R Plumbing to remove and replace my worn out water heater. I chose D &R because they carried the brand of water heater I wanted, Bradford White. I decided to remove the old water heater before they arrived so I could clean up the rust and debris under and around the old water heater. When D & R arrived, they had a clean work area to work in to install the new water heater. The technicians were courteous and polite and brought in the new water heater without incident. Here are my observations. When they installed the new water heater, the existing cold water pipe was approximately 1/2 inch too long to fit the new water heater. Rather than shorten the pipe by 1/2", the technician tried to make up the distance by screwing the pipe coupling on the water heater down as far it would go. This required a significant amount of force. Ultimately, he could not screw the pipe coupling down far enough to make up the needed distance so he had to so he had to shorten (cut) the water pipe after all. My concern is that he used so much force trying to screw on the pipe coupling on the water heater, that he may have over-stressed the internal parts and ultimately shortening it's life or voiding the warranty. There are a couple serious life safety issues with D&R Plumbing's installation too. The water heater's exhaust vent is shared with HVAC. When D&R installed the vent pipe, they did not secure it to the water heater with screws. The vibration from the HVAC transmitted through the vent pipe and caused the water heater's vent pipe to slip off so the exhaust gasses from the water heater were venting directly into the house. This is a serious life safety issue. If they had secured (screwed) the vent pipe to the top of the water heater, this would not have happened. Also, when the plumber attached the gas line to the new water heater, he checked for gas leaks by sniffing the connection. I don't believe sniffing a gas connection is a recognized safety procedure to test for a gas leak? If you use this company, make sure you watch everything they do to assure your installation is appropriate and safe. Addendum: The company has not contacted me regarding the flue pipe as they said they would in their response.

Price was very fair for a Bradford White water heater - There are companies charging twice that amount for a Bradford White - I am sorry for the concerns and I only wish that I could have recieved a phone call on it so that we could have addressed any and all concerns -- We are a very small family owned company and we have a very good customer base and are well known for our good service work. There was no stress on the lines and I can assure you that there is no warrenty that will be voided. I will contact the homeowner on the flue pipe to make sure that this is addressed. Thanks for the review.

Description of Work: Called them first thing in the morning as my furnace went out the night before. Had to leave a message. Was called back about 2 hours later. They weren't sure they were going to be able to fit me in. My house was at 59 degrees so I would qualify that as an emergency. I told them that I had kids and no heat and he said he would see if they could squeeze me in if one of the servicemen got done early enough with another appointment. They called back and said that someone could do it. I explained that I was going to be at work by then but I would leave back door unlocked. He said he understood but wanted to know how I would pay them. I told them I could pay by credit card. I asked if the serviceman could call me at work with what it would cost first. He said that would be fine. I gave him my address, work phone, and directions. I went to work and then I get a message at 6:15 on my cell (which i can't get a good signal and only check for messages every so often) from the serviceman who had called at 5:15 wanting to know if someone was at home so he could come and look at furnace. I called him back and explained to him that I spoke with Richard (possibly the R in D&R) and he knew I was not going to be at home but said that it would be ok that I wasn't there. Serviceman said that they don't go to calls if people weren't at home. I again told him what Richard had said and asked him if it was too late for him to go to my house. He said "yeah, I'm on my way home" (to his warm house!). I said ok and hung up on him. I then receive a message from him (serviceman) the next morning to see if I wanted him to come out that day. I was again at work and, of course, did not call him back. Never did receive call from "Richard" saying that he was sorry for the miscommunication or anything. Will never use them for anything.

I don't remember the exact date, but it was a Sunday. During a heavy weekend of rains, our 1yr old sump pump went out and the basement started to flood. (It had been going non-stop for 72 hours.) I called D&R (because of their cute cartoon ad in the yellow pages around 8am. They said they'd be out soon, as 'the guy' was currently on a call. Several calls later and at 6pm, 'the guy' finally showed up. By now, the basement was knee deep in water. He swapped out the sump pump in 10 minutes and charged us $500. I was blown away...they didn't give me a quote and unfortunately, I didn't ask in advance. Our 1yr old was $125, so I was expecting maybe $200 or $250 since it was a Sunday. I explained I would pay on Friday (payday) which he agreed to. However, he called Monday & again on Tuesday wanting the money. I found that very unprofessional! Every other business gives you 28-30 days. I opened up a new credit card (didn't have any by choice), to pay the bill on Wednesday. While waiting on D&R, I called other places, and they were all booked because of the monsoon. D&R made it sound like they were on their way every time I called. I still wonder to this day how they could ask $500 for a sump pump install. They now have a huge cute play area at the Eastland Mall and now realize why they charge so much. Footnote: I paid off and closed that cc the following week. I will not take money out of savings...I was told if you do it once, you'll keep doing it.

Price was very fair and yes we did charge overtime for weekend service -- It was time away from my family and I charged accordingly, in regards to hassle them for payment -- That is just not the case. We are a small family own company and we do not allow 28-30 billing unless you have a history with our company. There are alot of people out there that do not pay there bills and for service work on residential there are very few that do billing. They were happy with the service and it was not until later that made their comments or concerns, They could have provided the sump pump and we would have just charged labor for the install, Still would have been double time for the labor. Very sorry that they were not happy in the end, but for what we did and the time frame and the emergency situation, it was fair and they agreed and paid. In regards to the play area, She has no clue -- The company sponsors that for the kids and we are very well known in the community and our repeat customer base is one of the largest in the area.

Description of Work: We called them to replace two sink faucets. We were told that they only sell Delta faucets and they are expensive. MIke arrived in a large van and wanted to talk about how he designed it and it is tall enough that he can walk around in it. He spent about 30 minutes in the van while in the process of replacing our faucets. He installed a black seal under the kitchen faucet that sticks out at various widths around the faucet base. He left old plumbing parts under the sink in the bathroom. He also overcharged us $100.00 because he apparently cannot add! When I called about the seal around the kitchen faucet I was told it was required on granite counters. We don't have granite counters. I was then told that Delta faucets leak and I would need to call Delta! Mike came back out with another man and they used a knife to trim the seal. We got a refund check for the $100.00 overcharge which they said was delayed because they said they didn't know who to reimburse. At the present time the kitchen faucet leaks and the handles on all of the faucets come off easily. The sprayer works at half pressure. We are having a highly rated (23 positive reviews) come out next week to fix this mess.

I have no problem with how they come out. They came out right away. They cut a hole in the ceilings and made a determination that it was the tub from the upstairs bath leaking down. Then, he proceeded to decide it was the drain in the tub and fixed that. Of course, the problem was I am a short person. I could not see up into the hole, but on the weekend, I had family over. While they were showering, it leaked through again. It ended up being the overflow in the tub overhead. They charged me for both times: fixing the drain and also then the overflow. I had to go to the BBB to get some of the money back. I just find them to be very expensive and would not use them again.

They did super job. He fixed it in one shot. He had to go and get the part but he got my heater going in one day. I was well pleased with him. He was prompt. He was here on Monday morning as per request. He came in and downstairs and looked at the furnace. He gave me the full estimate. He got the parts and fixed it and gave me a guarantee on that. He was fine, pleasant and young man. He could not fix the part so went to get another part and it worked. I will give him a phone call if I have any more problems.

The two gentlemen that came, looked at the old heater & how it was vented. The person who installed the old one was incompetant. That person vented a 50 gallon gas water heater into the fireplace chimney. The gases of the water heater vented back into itself, therefore killing it. The heater was installed one year before we bought the house in 2006. They removed the old exhaust pipe & the old water heater. They were very careful when removing it, making sure that no damage was done to our walls or door trim. They brought the new one in & cleaned the area. A new pipe was run to the outside wall of the house, so the water heater would vent out of the house. Both men were clean, friendly, & always asked questions before they did anything. Richard called later on to make sure that everything went well & asked if we had more questions. My husband & I would recommend Richard Folks of D&R Plumbing to anyone who would need a responsible & honest plumber.
Description of Work: Our water heater died & they came promptly. Richard Folks gave us an estimate on what needed to be done & the bill was the correct amount. They removed the old exhaust pipe, ran new pipe, replaced the water heater, & removed the old one. The two gentlemen cleaned up the area before they left. We have used D&R Plumbing since 2003 when we lived in a mobile home.

I was given an original estimate of $800-900 as long as there was no "special plumbing" required. The water heater being replaced was installed nine years ago for under $400. After coming over to look, they upped the estimate to $1000-$1100. One reason was because the access to the heater was outside and he was going to have to "bring his ladder." There was also a valve that was going to be installed and some piping to be replaced because the new heater was a bottom filler instead of a top filler. The workmen were supposed to be there "in the afternoon." It was 6:00 when they came, and they were done by 8:00. My yard was trashed with cardboard from the new heater, the old heater was next to my driveway, all the insulation from the heater closet was torn out and in the yard, and they left some of their equipment behind. They also left a bill for $1192. I contacted the owner the next day. He came over and cleaned up the mess, took away the old water heater and left a refund check for $142. He honored his highest estimate and took off another $50. If I had not called to complain, I would have been overcharged as well as had a trashed yard and had to pay to have the water heater removed. I can not recommend this company to others. Even though I was reimbursed and the job completed, I am not happy with the exchange. A side note: the $50 additional refund was added after I said I was a member of Angie's List and would be making this review.
Description of Work: I needed a water heater replaced in a mobile home. I was told that this was the only company who works on mobile homes, so I called them.

WOW - WHAT CAN I SAY, NOT EVEN CLOSE. SHE WAS TOLD A PRICE OF 800 - 900 IF IT WAS GOING TO BE A SIMPLE CHANGE OUT OF THE WATER HEATER. BUT TRUST ME THERE WAS NOTHING SIMPLE ABOUT THIS WATER HEATER. FIRST OFF WHOEVER INSTALLED THE WATER HEATER 9 YEARS AGO, IS LUCKY, IT WAS NOT EVEN CLOSE TO BEING INSTALLED PER CODE STANDARDS. WE WENT OUT TO DO A FREE INSPECTION AND IT WAS AT THAT TIME THAT I TOLD HER THAT THERE WERE GOING TO BE ADDITIONAL CHARGES. THAT THE CHARGES WILL FALL BETWEEN 1000.00 - 1100 DOLLARS, SHE SAID FINE AND WE TOLD HERE THE REASON WHY THERE WERE ADDITIONAL CHARGES. LETS REVIEW: 1. THERE WAS NO VALVE TO ISOLATE THE WATER HEATER, WE INSTALLED THE PROPER VALVE, 2. ALL OF THE EXISTING WATER PIPING WAS IN POOR SHAPE. I TOLD HER THAT THIS WOULD BE REPLACED AND THAT IT WOULD BE BROUGHT UP TO CODE STANDARDS. 3. WE HAD TO REMOVE ALL THE TRASH AND DEBRIS OUT, BECAUSE IT WAS A FIRE HAZARD. IT IS AMAZING THAT THESE PEOPLE ARE STILL ALIVE. 4. GAS LINE WAS NOT PER CODE. THIS IS THE ADDITIONAL 92.00 DOLLARS, ONLY BECAUSE IT WAS AFTER THE HEATER WAS REMOVED THAT IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT THE GAS LINE WAS IN POOR SHAPE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AND INSTALLED PER CODE STANDARDS. 5. A N36 HAD TO BE INSTALLED BECAUSE THE NEW HEATER WAS A BOTTOM FEED HEATER, THE EXISTING HEATER WAS NOT EVEN DONE CORRECTLY. 6. IMPROPER UNIONS WERE USED ON THE OLD WATER HEATER, WE INSTALLED THE PROPER UNIONS FOR THE WATER HEATER, 7. ACCESS TO THE HEATER WAS NOT THE BEST....HOWEVER IF THIS WAS THE ONLY ISSUE, I WOULD HAVE DONE THE INSTALL FOR AROUND 800 DOLLARS, BUT IT WAS NOT EVEN CLOSE....I DID GIVE HER A GREAT PRICE AND SHE KNEW THE PRICE BEFORE WE STARTED. I ONLY GAVE HER THE ADDITIONAL MONEY BACK BECAUSE I WISHED I WOULD HAVE CAUGHT THE GAS LINE ISSUE AND I ADDED THE 50 DOLLARS BECAUSE WE DID LEAVE A PIECE OF INSULATION ON THE GROUND, HER YARD WAS NOT TRASHED AS SHE CLAIMS. ALSO, HER MAKING A REPORT ON ANGIE'S LIST WAS NOT A FACTOR. I AGREED TO THE INSULATION ISSUE AND TOLD HER I WOULD GIVE A PARTIAL REFUND TO MAKE HER HAPPY. THE JOB WAS DONE CORRECT - PER CODE - AND I CAN ASSURE YOU THAT THERE WILL BE NO LEAKS - AT LEAST ON THE PIPING THAT WE INSTALLED, WE DID DO OUR PART...WE MADE HER AWARE OF THE COST ISSUES, AND MADE GOOD ON ALL COUNTS - SHE IS JUST MAD BECAUSE SHE STILL THINKS THAT YOU SHOULD GET A WATER HEATER INSTALLED FOR $400.00 - LOOK AROUND THE COST OF THE WATER HEATER IS MORE THAN THAT, ESPECIALLY A MOBILE HOME WATER HEATER. I DO WISH HER LUCK IN HER OTHER REPAIRS THAT SHE HAS ISSUES WITH AND WE WOULD NOT DO THOSE REPAIRS BECAUSE THEY DO NOT WANT IT DONE THE RIGHT WAY. I ONLY HOPE THEY KNOW WHAT THEY ARE DOING, SO NO ONE GETS SICK OR HURT.

When the job was originally estimated, we were told that the estimate was on the high side. That there was a need for 2 people for 3-4 hours plus parts. Then an additional $60.00 to repair a kitchen faucet that had little water pressure. A total estimate of $560.00 (which is what I was charged). As it turned out, only one person came out to make the repair and it only took 1 hours. I was even there and assisted him myself sometimes. I saw the plastic piping used and would be surprised if it costed out at more than $50.00, but if I were to estimate it high let s go with $100.00. That would leave the actual repair at $400.00. At 1 hours it figures out to $266.66 per hour for the service work. I highly doubt that is the hourly rate the company charges. Additionally, the repair to the sink did absolutely nothing to increase water pressure, yet I was still charged for that as well (the time spent on it was included in the 1 1/2 hours). When contacted they said, you agreed to the price and that is what we charged.
Description of Work: Had a leak in a pipe from an upstairs tub that leaked into downstairs ceiling. Plus, correct low water pressure in kitchen sink.

THIS WAS NOT A TIME AND MATERIAL PROJECT. WE TOLD THEM THE COST UPFRONT AND THEY AGREED TO THE COSTS ASSOCIATED TO THIS PROJECT. THEY PAID AND WAS HAPPY WITH THE SERVICE. OTHERWISE, WHY DID SHE PAY THE BILL IF WHAT SHE SAID IS TRUE...SHE KNEW THE COST UPFRONT AND PAID IN FULL. I DO NOT UNDERSTAND....WE EVEN TRIED TO WORK IT OUT WITH THEM AND THEY NEVER RESPONDED BACK, PROBABLY BECAUSE SHE KNEW WE WERE RIGHT. IN ADDITION HER REPORT IS NOT TRUE...IT TOOK MORE THAN A HOUR AND THERE WAS ADDITIONAL ISSUES, THEY NEVER EVEN CALLED US....OR EVEN RETURN MY PHONE CALLS.
