The president came to the house to sell the American Standard Furnace system. He was very nice!!!??, once I signed the dotted line and paid the advance, the true color started showing up. The installation guys were professional. However, they installed one day late and took a week to install the thermostat, I had to bug them to come back and install the thermostat. Jim promised me two free furnace checks within one year. It never happened. I called the front office to schedule, the phone system was down. I had to call Jim's cell phone to remind that his phone system was down. I called again the front office after a couple of weeks, what an unprofessional person on the phone!. I scheduled for free check up, took time off and waited, the guy never showed, I called to remind them, they had told me that I owe them money, otherwise, the technician will not show up. I explained the situation, but she never bothered to understand. What a bad experience ! I called the owner - never responded to my emails or calls. WHAT A BUSINESS !- I am surprised they are still in the business...!!! PLEASE EVALUATE OTHER COMPANIES BEFORE CALLING THEM...!!! CAUTION !!! One more thing... I had to remind them several times to send me the tax credit form...!!! Finally I got it.
Description of Work: I bought American standard furnace system, variable valve, high efficiency furnace. I paid around $3,500.

Called on a Tuesday for a scheduled service visit on Friday. No show on Friday. Came on Saturday, determined Draft Inducer was needed, would have to come back on Monday morning. I called after 9am on Monday, the answering service was fielding calls well until 10am. Called after 10, got through, and was told I'd get a call back in 15 minutes. No call until the afternoon, with news that the part could not be found. Work was finally completed late on Tuesday. Schedule on the phone was very rude, and unconcerned about any discomfort or inconvenience. Technicians (when the finally showed) were very pleasant... however..... 1 month later, furnace is not working, again. We call, first technician says we need to have the exterior intake and exhaust piping reworked, and it would be done sometime in the next week. House kept getting colder, we called again, got another technician who then concluded we need a new switch costing over $600. This on a system that is only 9 years old. He tries to sell us a new furnace, saying that we would be credit back the $550 we already spent one month earlier. Next day (a Saturday) we call Dutchman who got heat working for $188. Team Comfort? More like Team DIScomfort!

I would like to tell people not to do business with them. Mr. Jim Schaaf is the owner of the company. The people who actually do my furnace came in to check the way in which it was installed. They wanted me to pay them $1845 to fix what they had put in. Mr. Schaaf had mentioned in his contract that if we weren?t happy in the first year, then I could have it pulled out. So I called and asked them to have it pulled out. He pleaded with me to give him another chance. He removed it and personally installed it. So that was the first problem which he corrected. There were a lot of problems. His crew hadn?t set the settings right, it was installed wrong and the return duct was a bad job. That?s why I let him reinstall it. He also promised me that he would provide me an extended warranty from the manufacturer. I went to the Better Business Bureau and put a complaint in. He offered to split the cost with me. His cost was $475 and he said that he would give it to me for $350. The bottom line is that he wasn?t doing anything for me and I have to now pay $200 to go through negotiation or arbitration. They don?t even put it as a mark against the company. I should have told them that I wanted $350 without arbitration, but I didn?t do that since I didn?t know anything about it. The bottom line is that these guys are crook. They have a little thing in there that says to deal with Jeff who is the installer and I dealt with him too. He initially helped them install it. They were having problems with the ductwork and so he ran out of here. I would be very careful about them. They had some bad comments online. They had even lied to me about the warranty. He even told me that he worked for a company but he is the owner. He had informed me that he would give a 15 year warranty for parts and labor, but he had lied to me. He looks like the nicest guy in the world. He demeaned my character through e-mails. He also wanted to sell me a duct booster to put on one of the ducts to control the air into my family room and that was another $1150. It would have only cost me $250 but I didn?t need that anyway if it was wired properly. There were so many things that made me angry. The amount I spent was $3600 and it was a good deal. He didn?t even give the credit for $350 on the top and I didn?t realize that until I started checking out the energy star thing. I had paid him the whole price and it took him for ever in order to get $350, which he should have done right away. I don?t know as to how he is in business. He seemed like a good guy. They put the return things on the furnace and put them partly over my stoop at the back porch. It should have been moved to the end of the house and he knew that. He complained to me saying that he used extra money to move that. They just wanted to get out of here. They had to give me a discount and Jim told me that he would have the owner give me a call, but he was the owner.
Description of Work: I used the services of Team Comfort in February for having a new furnace installed. He paid me the $450 credit because I would have gone to the attorney. The pricing was good since he did everything he said but he didn’t give me the warranty. I had to call in a professional to tell me what was wrong with the furnace that was installed and so I think that was really shady. I think he is the worst contractor that I have ever dealt with. He had a lady deal with me to give me $450 for gas credit. He sent a nasty e-mail when I communicated with him the last time. I just had an energy audit done in my house and I tell everybody I see as to how bad he is. He has a big business and he bought another company in Naperville. Jeff is a nice young man. They wanted to charge me for many things.

They were consistantly late. From the sales calls to the trips back to finish up. They would say they would be here between 9 and noon, and come at 5:00. The only time they were on time was on the actually date of installation. They had to come back 3 times because the electronic air cleaner wasn't working, and they were hours late each time. They didi a nice job with the installation, and products are high quality. They just need show up when they say they are going to.

The installer did not follow code and best practices and another installer came out to correct his mistakes. They wanted to block one third of the furnace openings for installation convenience. While they partially fixed the problem, I do not believe that my furnace is running at full capacity. The exhaust pipes were not pitched and collected water which would build up and flow back into the furnace shut down the furnace and leak onto the floor. The second installer pitched the pipe more evenly to stop the buildup but it still does not meet the manufacturer's specs.

My Air conditioning stopped working. Had a service contract from NICOR. A/C was recharged and an estimate was given to replace the A/C evaporator and whole system. Estimate was for $12,000. Called Team Comfort. They came out for the estimate. I told him to go ahead and order the replacement parts.Their estimator called one of his repair men. He came out and recharged the A/C free of charge. They then came out on a Saturday and replaced the furnace and airconditioning units. The installed American Standard high efficiency units. They have been great! They work much better than our original Carrier high efficiency furnace & A/C

We had 3 quotes from local HVAC companies. We did not receive satisfactory quotes (cost) and only 1 contractor had an acceptable quote process. We checked Angie s List and did not find a provider in our area that had experience reports for complete installations. Most were for repairs. We submitted a request for a quote from an HVAC web broker. After discussing the requirement over the phone with the broker, Team Comfort was selected and an appointment set. A sales rep showed up, a quote was received and a deal was made. We did make it clear that Angie s List would receive a statement. We hoped by using this tactic it would keep them focused on providing complete and professional work. We took Friday off to monitor the installation. Two installers showed up about 15 minutes late to start the work. It started very smoothly and the installers were very nice. Unfortunately the Village drove by early in the morning and noticed the non-marked truck in the driveway. Work was stopped for about an hour and a permit was issued. At about 5:00pm I believe the installers ran out of gas and patience. It was a Friday and it was late. Unfortunately the installation was not done. At 6:30pm, the lead installer asked for us to sign the job completion form and provide complete payment as services had been rendered. We refused. The job was not completed to our satisfaction and we had not received a final inspection from the village. After a few tense minutes and a call to the representative, it was resolved by holding back $500 from the amount due to provide an incentive to finish the work. Saturday appointment was made. The same lead installer arrived on Saturday morning (late) to complete the installation. It took about an hour. He retrieved a drill case and copper tubing that were left at the site. He strapped the PVC tubing to the ceiling as required in the manual. He installed external grade wire nuts on the outdoor thermal sensors (humidifier + thermostat). He verified settings we made on the Thermostat not set correctly the first time. He RTV d the mating area of the PVC tubing to the furnace as required in the manual. He used screws to finish the installation of the cap for the original furnace chimney. He repositioned the outside exhaust port. A final payment was put in the mail. The furnace is working well and is a really nice system. The house now has a much more uniform temperature. We are eagerly waiting for the new gas bill to see if this 92% efficient furnace really will save us money. The electrostatic air cleaner has made a dramatic improvement on the amount of dust that settles on furniture. The upgraded thermostat has a blower control feature that allows us to stir the air in the house in the evening when there is no call for heat. This removes stagnant air in the bedrooms without raising the temperature or turning the fan to on for the whole evening.
Description of Work: For about $3,500, Team Comfort installed a complete furnace system: An American Standard (Trane) 100,000 Btu 2 Stage furnace, 92+ efficiency furnace, An April Air humidifier (included free), A Honeywell electrostatic air cleaner, A new PVC tubing based air intake and exhaust system, An American Standard thermostat (cost more due to features we wanted). The 20 year old system (60% - 70% efficient) was removed.

The pricing was fair, the scheduling went well and the installers were courteous. Unfortunately they needed to come back do the the job not being 100% completed. Once back they resolved the problems and completed the job to my satisfaction. The inside guy Jeff makes it happen.
