Just Rite Remodeling

Description of Work: I hired Phil Puccio/Just Rite Remodeling on October 10, 2012 to renovate a house in Thornton, IL. The renovation work included gut rehab the kitchen with new cabinets, lighting, removal of a wall, flooring, painting, replacement of windows, and other small projects. We signed an agreement and I paid him $6,750 at the time to cover half the cost of the project to pay for materials and labor. Phil Puccio claimed he purchased windows and kitchen cabinets with the money. On November 1, we received a call from the Village of Thornton that garbage and cabinets were left in the yard and driveway. Upon inspection it was clear only demolition and some drywall work was completed. Subsequently, I met with Phil Puccio at the property who then claimed he needed additional funds to pay for permits and materials to complete the project. On November 17, I reluctantly paid Mr.Puccio an additional $3,375 (second payment) bringing the total paid to $10,125. Since he cashed the check on November 19 it became clear he abandoned the job and stopped returning my calls, text messages, emails and letters. On November 27, I mailed Mr.Puccio a letter stating we are terminating his services for abandonment of project and breach of contract. Mr. Puccio failed to register with the Village of Thornton. On December 5 I mailed Mr. Puccio a letter demanding a refund of my money for work not performed. After several attempts to reach Mr.Puccio it was clear he did not order the cabinets or windows as he claimed. We demanded copies of the orders which he did not produce. Mr. Puccio on completed approximately $2,000 of work and materials so I requested a refund of $7,975. The only response I received from Mr. Puccio was a text message that he was in jail. He has been unresponsive ever since.
