Called Hannah's because of water coming through our walls and fixtures in the bathroom. WATER EVERYWHERE!! All over the carpet, walls, through the ceiling. Could not guarantee time on the phone because the crew was on a different job. The workers were here within 30 minutes of my frantic call. Very professional and very knowledgable crew! Gave advice as to what the next steps are in this process as well as great installation. They guys also cleaned up the whole mess in the bathroom. All the standing water on the tile and threw away the drywall pieces so we did not have to touch it.
Description of Work: Work Provided: 3/4 in line above the shower in the basement froze and broke. They had to cut the copper out and replace. They did give us 10% off today so the total cost was $383 but the cost would have been $425.

Around 2 pm, my husband noticed sewer waste backing up in to our basement. On the coldest day of the year, with subzero weather, I thought I wouldn't be able to find a plumber to clear the drain on the same day. So lucky that Hannah's plumbing was able to come out in just a couple of hours. I called and spoke with Greg Hannah. Said he would see what he could do and called me back within a couple of minutes and said a crew could be here soon. The 2 man crew were very efficient, I believe it was Mike and Pete. They did the job! Completed by 7 pm. I would and will definitely call them again. Great experience. F.Y.I...don't use flushable wipes!

My experience was great. They were able to come on a Saturday to do the work shortly after I had purchased the big deal. They were very thorough with me. They were very responsive and kept me informed of what was going on during the appointment. I felt the price was a little high for the additional fees since it caught me off guard.

I called on 11-30-13 to have them check my issue. Peter came within an hour and checked it out. He determined the leak was coming from a pipe in the wall so he had to open an area of my wall to determine the exact location. He told me that he would have to replace certain pipes. He wanted to finish the job the following Monday, but I was unable to have the work done until the following Saturday. He came back on Saturday with his apprentice, replaced the old pipes as well as a portion of a pipe that they discovered was not properly done when I had renovated my bathroom years ago. They completed the job in a little over an hour and also cleaned up their work area. They were very informative and answered all questions I had.

I needed some work done on the toilet in my apartment. For the past several months it was filling too high and clogging more and more frequently and would overflow. I bought a Deal on Angie's list for $49 to go towards plumbing assessment/labor (value of $49 towards assessment + $49 towards repairs). I was impressed by the reviews by others who used Hannah's, and this is why I bought the Angie's list deal. | |The plumber arrived early - almost 2 hours early so I wasn't home! They called me on my cell phone asking where I was, and I was a little annoyed as they messed up the time and initially blamed me for the scheduling error. Fortunately I was not far away, and I got in my car and drove home, where the plumber was waiting. | |I told him the toilet "history" and that it was currently overflowing. So what does he do when he walks into my bathroom? Immediately flushes the toilet and lets it overflow over the floor of my clean bathroom. Are you serious?! He didn't even take the time to open the tank to stop an overflow or be ready to treat it. So I had a bad feeling from the start. | |Then even before assessing the toilet, he asked me if I had plunged it as he assumed it was merely "clogged" and could be fixed and that was the only problem. Then I got a "lecture" on how to properly plunge a toilet. So he started plunging as I reminded him that I have been plunging it for months when it recurrently starts running slow/clogging and the problem I want help with is the chronic one. But when it was flushing better, he acted like his work was done and was ready to leave. But I told him that the problem is that it will re-clog the next time I use it... So I was able to get him to challenge it with toilet paper, and of course it overflowed again. | |So FINALLY he believed me. With that he said... "It will be $199 to bring my rodder in from outside to clear the toilet". Ouch. It was running better after the manual rodding, and he suggested that chronic mineral build up in this old toilet was causing these problems. | |And in the end it turned out my Angie's list coupon I just bought would not give me a discount on this service. I still don't understand why. In fact, the plumber had no idea what I was talking about when I said I had bought the Angie's list deal. But he was accommodating and took the face value of the coupon off the total bill ($49 - not the $98 I expected). So when I realized "no Angie's deal", I asked him about the current discount on his website for $25 off a service visit and he did willingly give me that. I'm glad I remembered that..... | |And then later that day, the toilet stopped working again, so the rodding did not do the trick. I called Hannah's back and asked for the plumber who came out to call me back. He never called me back. | |So I called back later that week and spoke with the Owner, who told me what the options would be for further assessment of the toilet and offered to come out again. I said I would wait and speak with our building management and have them manage the next step instead. | |My main complaints are difficulty getting accurate estimates before the work was done (called twice to get a phone estimate - limited estimate), poor knowledge by the plumber about how to use Angie's list coupon - which I was unable to use to my advantage, condescending attitude by the plumber who came out who didn't listen to me (because I am a young woman? who knows....), ultimately not fixing the problem so I spent nearly $175 and was in the same place I started. | |The funny thing is that when I called back and spoke to the owner about installing a new toilet, I was very impressed with his communication skills, knowledge, and attitude. I actually thought I might hire HIM to come out, but definitely not his colleague....

A great experience! They scheduled right away, showed up on time and spent a couple of hours crawling under my house, listening to my questions and concerns and pointing out what needed to be fixed and what could wait. There were a few issues, but nothing urgent in our 60+ year old house and dog kennel. I appreciate that these guys didn't try to up-sell me just to make a buck. They were honest and let me make the decision to do any additional work. When it comes time to do the major work - these guys will get the call!

We've used Hannah's Plumbing for a few years now, and I have been so happy with their service. They're punctual, professional, very responsive, and even when a repair is something really simple, whoever's on the job never talks down to me or makes me feel stupid. They just answer questions in a very matter-of-fact way. Greg has been especially helpful with some insurance questions that arose last summer. I would recommend this company to anyone and never want to use any other plumbers.

I purchased the $49 Big Deal for a plumbing inspection. Our basement flooded after having drain tiles and a sump system installed, and we wanted to find out where the water came in and how to stop it. Michael inspected the system and confirmed that it was designed and installed correctly, and that all components are working. He suggested we may want to consider having a back up pump installed, which we plan to do in the future, when finances permit. He also gave us a quote for installing a laundry-type sink in our basement, which we intend to do in the nearer future. Unfortunately, the Big Deal didn't apply to this type of inspection, so Michael gave me discount on the cost of the inspection he performed, and instructed me to request a refund from Angie's List for the Big Deal. Apparently, the deal is for renovation or new construction inspections, which was not indicated on the Big Deal when I purchased it.

Company owner conducted a walkthrough and promised to get back to us in a few days with a date for the work, which he did. Crew arrived at appointed date and time, worked through the day and finished entire job in one day. They were easy to work with and made a couple of minor modifications at my request, no additional charge. Unfortunately a leak developed in an upstairs bathroom after they left, and some minor damage occurred before we noticed the leak. We shut off the water and called the owner. He was very apologetic and promised someone would be out to make the repair the next day, a Saturday. They came the next afternoon and made the repair. The quality score would have been an "A" except for the leak issue.

I was very pleased with the service from Hannah's Plumbing. Everyone was very polite and professional on the phone and in person. It involved 2 service calls: the first was to assess the situation, the second to replace the disposal. The service rep (I think his name was Mike, but I am bad with names) was very polite, prompt and professional. He did as much as he could so that I had some flow while we waited for the return visit. He offered several options --- including whether I wanted to pick up a unit myself and just have him replace it, or I could have them handle the whole thing (which I chose to do). Everything went very smoothly and I think he left my under-sink area much cleaner than I had it! I would definitely use them again and recommend them to anyone in the area looking for a plumber.

Our out take pipe for our bathtub in the main bathroom developed a huge leak down through the main floor's ceiling. A neighbor had recommended Greg Hannah. After my call, two different men showed up on two different days with two different assessments of the problem and about a $600.00 price range. Greg Hannah seemed experienced and very reasonable. He recommended that the leak was probably from the catch drain. They could fix the leak quickly and the charge would be less than $200.00. WE agreed that his office would call in the morning to arrange a time for the workers to come out. A day later and out of the blue, Mike showed up. Mike seemed somewhat agitated and hurried when he arrived. He looked at the same walls and bathroom and determined that they would have to entirely replace the pipes and the cost would be about $1000.00 to $1200 dollars, not including a plaster work, painting and tile work after they completed the work. When I pointed out the difference in assessment of the work and price "Mike" left and called the office. Then he came back and asserted that he was in charge with the appraisal he revised his quote. He said that if they only needed to replace the the catch drain and pipe between the bath and the drain, the work would be about $250.00. I didn't look closely at the paper he handed me, which was for $390.00. The workers showed up the following day. Two plumbers worked for about one hour. They tore out a part of the first floor ceiling and replaced part of the pipe which was leaking ad the catch drain. They did not find any other weak pipes. They added a second board brace. They tested the system and picked up the broken plaster and handed me a bill for almost $500.00. I was surprised. One of the workers, seeing my shock, suggested that I purchase an Angies Coupon. I purchased a coupon and presented it to the worker. Then he got on the phone with the home office and lo and behold, "Mike," got on the phone and told me that the price was a fair value and in the realm of his quote. He would not accept the Angies Coupon because the work was already included in the price. He explained that the worker was inaccurate and didn't understand how Angie's works. My takeaway: If a Chicago full journeyman carpenter's wage is $48.00 and hour, we overpaid. The work was pretty much what Greg Hannah had described but the bill was significantly larger. The work was fine. Always check with the vendor about the work before you buy an Angie's coupon. Don't listen to the workmen. I shared this experience with the neighbor whom had recommended Hannah to me. She told me that she had heard a similar complaint from another of our friends who had used Hannah.

Hannah's representative checked the pipes in my basement and explained what the reasons for the lack of water could be. He gave me an estimate, received a deposit, and told me to call the City of Chicago to have them mark the water shut-off on the front lawn. The plumbing team was to come back on Monday, the 12th. The City Water Department over the next two days discovered that the broken water pipe was on City property and did the repairs. I called Hannah's early on Monday morning to let them know I wouldn't need their team. I was only charged for the service call. I would use Hannah's for any future plumbing needs.

The gentleman called promptly to schedule the SAME DAY appointment and to my delight ~ was right on time! He inspected the area, sump pump, plumbing and then told us what we had expected...our sump pump was done much like the others in the over priced townhouse development built and sold durin the housing boom. The units were well appointed and marketed for the Chicago professionals who would not necessarily "kick all the tires". He gave us the estimate which was out of our budget at the time ~ he took mercy on us as we'd been telling him how everything in the house seemed to be falling apart at the same time and gave us detailed instructions for DIY. We haven't done it yet and as soon as we have the funds to spare ~ we will be calling them back!

Hannah's found that our second bathroom was not properly installed and was "connected" via broken 2" pipe that was packed with rip-rap and not actually connected at all (there literally were no fittings between pipes). Essentially, they found a cesspool under our slab. Rather than investigate the extent of the problem, they connected the 2" defective pipe to 3" pipe and proposed to reconnect the toilet. If they had tested the plumbing at all, they would have noticed it was still backing up because the pipe was still broken and clogged further down the line. Also, they should have known that 2" or 3" pipe is not appropriate for a toilet and would have advised us to fix the problem properly. Hannah's did not consult with us or ask us what we wanted done when they should have realized we had an even bigger plumbing problem. They just decided to install 3" pipe and didn't investigate whether it even worked. Now we have another plumber working to actually fix the problem and not only do they have to fix the original issue, but they have to re-do the work Hannah's did improperly. And did I mention the new plumber is fixing the whole, huge problem for the same price Hannah's fixed nothing? Hannah's grossly overcharged us, to the tune of 3 or 4 times what they should have charged. I will say they were friendly and professional but that does not excuse them from taking advantage of us and doing a poor job that ultimately added to the problem rather than fixing it. I am very disappointed.
Description of Work: I am revising this review from an earlier review. In August of 2013, we called Hannah's Plumbing to figure out why all of our water fixtures were overflowing/leaking in our recently-purchased home. They discovered that the seller installed the plumbing all wrong and the lines were clogged. Hannah's was able to unclog the main line, but after hours of investigation, all we knew about the line running to the second bathroom was that there was a major problem. We got a quote to fix the big problem with the second bathroom but we didn't have the money to fix the problem until May of 2014. Hannah's kindly honored their earlier quote. They ripped out the toilet, concrete, and the mess below. They then replaced the pipe and filled the hole with concrete and agreed to put the toilet back after we hired someone else to re-set the tile. Unfortunately, in June we discovered the problem was far from fixed and we have now hired someone else to fix both the original plumbing and re-do the work Hannah's did. For a fraction of the price.
