 + -1 moreChampion Roofing did an excellent job in every respect. The estimator came soon after we called him, gave a thorough explanation of the work, and met offers from competitors. The man who scheduled the work also did an excellent job. He had to work around some surprises with the wheather and a tight window of opportunity on our part. Finally, the forman of the work crew was very alert to everything. I was especially happy with the way he made sure that our new landscaping was protected during the installation. And the job was finished very quickly. The work crew was on the scene befor 7am and they were done by 2:30pm. And the roof looks great.
Description of Work: We had the roofing replaced on our two story home. This also included replacing a small amout of decking, adding ice shield and new flashing.

 + -1 moreIt was fine. There was a little confusion with regards to communication. I expected a more frequent update as to when they would arrive. David Freedman(sp) advised that they'd call aprox 24 hr prior and I was thinking there'd be more. Aside from that, the actual work done was fine, quick and clean. I'm very pleased with the results. I might use their service again in the future but not without shopping elsewhere for a competitive price. Their service was, however worth going back for.

Joe came out and discussed the work with my dad. Joe called me and told me what needed to be done and had already explained it all to my dad. My dad felt Joe would do a good job and he was also helpful with information to help with the insurance claim my dad would be submitting. My dad and mom decided to hire Joe and were extremely pleased with his work and the worker even helped my dad re-hang a downspout while there.

When I called the second time, they said they were not sending people out because of the snow but the other contractors did not have a problem and Champion has not called even though the snow is long gone.

 + -1 moreWe contacted Champion for an estimate for roof repairs, one of three contractors who we asked to submit bids for some minor repairs to our roof. We had recently purchased the home and had had a thorough inspection of the roof by a top-rated home inspector, and therefore knew for a fact the roof did not need to be completely replaced. There were some minor leaks that developed during this year's very severe winter that needed repair. When Champion's estimator came out, he was dressed in a suit and expensive leather jacket---not exactly the right attire for inspecting a roof! He declined to go out on our roof and evaluate the issues we needed repairs on, saying he "didn't need to." (This despite all the other estimators we've had all went out on the roof itself to inspect it and make their estimates accordingly). The guy was obviously a salesman and knew nothing about roofing or roof repairs. He tried to tell me we have a mold problem (we don't! we had the house inspected for mold when we bought it!) and insisted that all the other roofers and inspectors who told us we have 5-7 years left on our roof were lying. When I told him I wasn't interested in an estimate for a complete tear-off roof, he blew me off and no longer seemed interested in doing the estimate. Was rude, snobby, and condescending, and insisted all the information I had about my home and roof was wrong. He was obviously trying to pressure me into buying more than I need. Sleazy tactics! Will not hire these people.

The work was scheduled soon after they received our down payment. The 2 gentlemen who actually did the work, were polite, conisderate, and worked quickly. Their estimate was a little higher than others, but we went with them because we needed the repair done quickly and they had such a good Angie's List profile.

 + -1 moreWe were very sorry we used them. We still have problems with the roof. We could have avoided this and a lot of aggravation, had they just told us upfront the condition of the rest of the roof. It was very frustrating for us. The price was competitive. Initially, they came out when they said they would, but now they haven t contacted me regarding my gutters falling down. Until the downspouts became disconnected we paid them the balance, because they came out and claimed they did everything that they could do, and that the rest of the problem was because of the people that originally had laid the roof. Champion also, put in gutter guards per our request, and they are the most bizarre piece of equipment we have ever seen. They are absolutely horrendous looking. Champion claims it is because the roofers did something to them, but the roofers were never near some of the areas where the guards are sticking out over the gutter tops.
Description of Work: Initially, we called them to our roof that was damaged by a storm a year ago this past August/September. They came out and fixed the obvious damage, but they neglected to let us know that our entire roof was in bad shape. A couple of months later, I went into the attic to get some things out and noticed that there was water damage in other places besides where they had repaired. We replaced all of the gutters, not just the damaged gutters at the time they did the repair and there have been nothing but problems. We used another company to replace the roof since we had the problems with them that we had. I called them to come repair some gutters that fell after the snow, and I still have not heard back from them. My husband did withhold some of the money to try and get some resolution, and we just went around and around with them. Finally, one of the owners called us and came out to assess what was going on and talk with us. Apparently, they had thought one of their employees did it, and had gotten someone to come out to fix the problem, when they hadn't. They do contract work, which we were not aware of either.

 + -1 moreWe will hold our breath until we have a 75-degree day, which, in Chicago, could occur as early as March or as late as mid-June. Meanwhile, we will also hope that we haven't already lost any roofing materials due to the difficult winter that we've had so far -- and there's most likely a lot more winter yet to go.
Description of Work: The company personnel behaved professionally throughout, inspecting the roof, providing pertinent written and oral information about various types of roofing and installation, answering questions, providing addresses of past work they had done, and allowing us to hold onto roof samples while we made our choice. We opted for GAF Timberline Prestique 30 shingles set in an "architectural" configuration, with a 30-year warranty. We had been told in advance by all four of our roof bidders that plywood would have to be replaced in a certain area. By the time we decided to use Champion's services, their bid had expired and the price went up significantly. We were told that it was due to mounting transportation costs. We decided to go with them, anyway, as their bid was still commensurate with the others and because we liked what we had seen of their work product. Because the job was being done so late in the season, the company's representative told us we would have to wait for a day on which no rain or snow was predicted. He also told us that the glue wouldn't really set until the first 75-degree day after the roof was installed, and that the company would replace any shingles that come off before then, unless the loss was due to weather. We're not sure how such a distinction would be made, so we're just hoping that we don't lose any shingles this winter! The job was a "tear-off" (all existing shingles were removed, as opposed to placing new shingles on top of the old) and took a day or two toward the end of November. The company did commence on the first day of decent weather. The foreman told us that the number of replacement plywood sheets was a bit over what had been anticipated; we found this to be acceptable.The company subtracted the Angie's List coupon from the price. Champion delivered our warranty materials to us afterward in a timely manner.

 + -1 moreThe NEXT DAY the roof was still leaking in the exact spot it was leaking before. I called twice about it. Calls were never returned. It's been cold so it stopped leaking again but now 3 weeks later it's thawing and roof is leaking again, causing damage to our house. Eight phone calls were made before one was returned. They said they would send someone out. They haven't. They wanted to charge me again to send someone out even though they didn't do the work right the first time.
Description of Work: Called for Champion to fix a roof leaking in several places. They came and patched one spot and while they were still there I asked that they ensure they fixed all the places it was leaking. They assured me they did. I paid them even though they gouged me on the price because it was the day after Christmas.

They did some work that wasn't on the estimate. They didn't interfere with the satellite dish at all so I didn't have to call them to reset it. The dump truck wasn't taken away the same day and was taken away when I called them.
