They did a great job. They were very efficient, did it in six hours and I was almost stunned that how clean our yard was after they did their work. I could hardly find a piece of shingle or anything. They didn?t do anything wrong, one person was very communicative and gave me an approximate time and did it. I have recommended them to a couple of people in my area and they said Champion Roofing delivered what they said. I looked a couple of other roofers, but, their price was by far the best.

I called for an estimate and Dave came right out that day and gave an estimate. They scheduled the work as soon as the weather permitted and they were on time and very professional. The crew foreman was extremely nice and explained and answered any questions I had. The finished roof is beautiful and they cleaned up extremely well.

I'm a little disappointed how they removed the old roof and how they tore up our yard. They didn't cover anything or took care in throwing their materials and leaving a mess. The new roof looks great and we are happy with the results. The quality is very good. The workers were always punctual and very reliable. I will use this company again in the future.

started and finished on schedule....was reasonably clean, important on a messy kind of job. After initial completion, their own inspector directed minor repairs, in preperation for the Dow inspector, who arrives once job is renedered complete, inspects and Dow issues warranty
Description of Work: installed new white plastic PTO material roof on flat roof with 15 year warranty, which Dow Chemical Co. issues. Couldn't find anything even close to length of warranty, and price was competitive with bitumin material.

The estimators were ontime and professional. They followed around the house as I pointed out the areas that needed to be tuckpointed. The cost estimate arrived within days and was reasonably priced. A team came out and completed the work in one day. The workers returned in a few days to remove the form from around the chimney cap. About a week later I noticed a spot that really needed tuckpointing; it had been missed. I called Champion; my estimator came out the next day. He agreed to fix the spot, and to smooth out some of the other tuckpointed areas to my satifsaction- no charge! I can't say enough about their professionalism.

I had a tree overhanging the garage. Eventually the tree branches rubbed off the coating on the roofing shingles. This allowed rain water to get beneath the shingles and damage the wood on the roof. Recently the tree was removed and the damage was noted. I called different roofers and the Champion Roofing representative seemed the most professional when he came to look at the roof. He also answered all of our questions and gave us good advice. Later they called back to see if we had any other questions about their proposal. Even though they were not the cheapest quote we got we decided to use them. Their workers were very professional and did a good job, this included covering up the opening for an old chimney that was no longer used, and replacing some wood. The only complaint I had was that I was told they would be at my house at about 7:30 AM. But they didn't show up until about 1:30 PM and didn't finish until after 6 PM and I had a previously scheduled event that night.

I delayed this report to see how this roof would seal and hold up this spring, since we did it late in the fall of 2008 and it did not really have a chance to seal and "relax" before winter. David Friedman is an excellent estimator with whom to work and allayed my concerns over doing the roof late in the year. Champion uses regular subcontractors, and the crew that did our roof (Gabriel and guys) was hardworking and competent. Great clean-up.

Champion did a great job. Steve made it easy for us, as we have old gutters but weren't ready to replace the whole system. He got back to me in a timely manner and took our job even though it was an unorthodox one. He set up the time the day after I gave him a downpayment which he picked up at my house on the way home from work! The guys did a good job from the looks of it. They did leave some caulking on the front lawn which I had to clean up. They were accomodating of my wishes to come at a certain time of the day, and I appreciated that.

The estimate I received was very reasonable and the work was done well. They missed one area and when I called them they were very responsive about getting back here to finish the one small area they had missed. The job they did was excellent, especially for the price!! Champion is a first-class operation and I have been telling everyone about the excellent work and reasonable price. I couldn't be happier.

Two years since I said nice things about Champion Roofing and their original execution of my our association?s new roof (see above) I've got to experience the "real" Champion Roofing. Yes they tout all this experience and a great Angie's List rating and are pretty reasonably priced due to most of their labor being cheaper, non-native English speaking. However as someone who has experienced what happens to their roofs when things don't go as pro forma I'd recommend you stay far away from Champion and use other more reputable roofing companies. For example: One year after they installed our new roof the 2nd floor unit was under contract and the new buyer's home inspector noticed quite a few soft spots that should have been fixed when the roof was re-done the prior year. Literally not two days later I was sitting in my den on a June night when I noticed I was getting dripped on from a light fixture. Soon after that on a very hot summer day I noticed I was getting mold around all my ceiling light fixtures from precipitation that had built up as well (none of the above were issues with our old roof as I?ve owned the unit four years now). I called Champion to come out and analyze and fix the situation(s)...which they did respond to and send someone out. They of course concluded that the leaks in the roof where not their fault (to avoid having to pay for the $1,500 we the association absorbed to replace and paint the damaged drywall in my ceiling with mold resistant green board drywall). Rather they blamed it from water getting under the lip of the roof....so if it was not their fault then why did they realize they needed to further place the metal plate into the bricks and also put silicone sealant around every wall bolt holding up the lip? I would think that should have been done in installation if that they later deemed that to be a necessary component to avoid leaks. They also told me to spray sealant on the interior bricks of the parapet walls to help avoid water from getting under the lip.....once again if this was so important why didn't they include this as part of their original installation or at least recommend it for new Champion Roof owners? Of course once again they refused to pay for the sealing of the brick walls (so now I'm close to $2,000 in extra costs in addition to the original $5,700 I paid Champion originally). In addition when replacing the soft spots with new plywood it became clear that they never removed the original roof membrane but rather just built right over it....yet another short-cut to save money and not the proper way to install a new roof. Year two.....Once again I notice intense precipitation around the ceiling can lights on hot days (see attached picture along with all the other pictures). I once again ask Champion to come out to address this issue as something is not right and I certainly don't want water building up around electric lights and also get more potential mold (even though the green board drywall is much more mold resistant). My concern is that the since they built over the original roof membrane the vents that were installed are worthless as they are not truly letting the roof breath and hence why the heat is getting pushed back through my ceiling and causing the precipitation with the hot roof air from the cold AC unit air. What I got from here on out was a pathetic case of passive aggressive behavior as the owner refused to send someone else out again and was insulting and snarky in his emails to me after he ignored my phone call voice-mail to talk about the issue. Somehow in his conclusion he came up with was his theory that there was too much insulation in my ceiling and that was the problem and had nothing to do with his roof yet offered to come install vents for an additional cost of $350/vent. I then pointed out to him that the roof already had vents that Champion installed so why would I pay to get new ones when they ones you installed still under warranty were not working. In addition I pointed out his too much insulation theory was a joke as every external wall of a building needs insulation and a plastic vapor barrier to keep the hot air and cold air from mixing which causes condensation and mold. I know for a fact that insulation and a vapor barrier are in my ceiling as I watched the firm I hired the previous summer to replace the ceiling drywall due it with my own eyes. In addition anyone who watched Holmes on Homes knows how much he stresses both vapor barriers (ideally spray foam) to external walls while also stressing the need for allowing roofs to breath to avoid these above mentioned kind of issues. Well from there the owner challenged me to write a bad Angie's List review and that it wouldn't hinder all his ?A's?. Later when I also reported him to the BBB for not standing by a warranty it got rejected not because of merit but because it has to come from the association (which I will re-submit on)...once again I got a snarky "Nice try" response from him (via this review I'm giving Angie's List the right to have customers contact me if they want to see the entire email chain and other evidence of the above to help them form their own opinion). So bottom line is review the above and attached pictures and make your own conclusions. I?d personally recommend you pro forma another 25% in later costs in the original Champion Roofing bid as they will never take responsibility for things that go wrong that end up as additional costs to the home owner. In addition don?t ever challenge Champion Roofing as they have a bunch of A?s on Angie?s List and don?t care about word of mouth or making sure every customer has a good Champion experience.

Response from Champion Roofing Inc
I really appreciate the fact that AngiesList lets the contractor state their side of a story. (Member name removed) is the the type of customer unfortunately all contractors with longevity will have to face. The rare 2% you will never make happy through NO fault of your own. Lets start at the truth and the beginning instead of the exaggerated falsehood (Member name removed) is currently spewing. We were contacted by a company known as Advanced Building and Remodeling known as ABR out of Hoffman Estates. The owner a Mr. Steve Duffer met my estimator on the roof and told my estimator to bid a single ply modified bitumen reroof. For those of you not roof saavy, a reroof is basically the process of installing a second roof over the existing roof. This method is an accepted method of roofing according to the manufacturer, local building code and the National Roofing Contractors Association. We gave ABR a quote of $4,850.00. Mr Duffer after reviewing our proposal felt that we provided a very fair price, (Not because we use non-native (not sure really who is native to America being the melting pot that it is) English speakers but because he recieved other quotes and ours was right in the middle. He then referred us to (Member name removed) who would be handling the contract moving forward. We were then hired by (Member name removed) to install the reroof system. We executed the contract exactly as specified. (Member name removed) was pleased as his original Angies List report states and we were paid. Approx. One year later we were called out to inspect some soft spots on the roof and dripping from a light fixture. My partner Joe went out and met (Member name removed). We saw no issues with the roof but noticed that the inside parapet walls were CMU block which are poorly insulated and notorious for absorbing water. Joe wanted to make sure that no leak can be coming from roof , so we added a second piece of counter flashing metal (the lip) that (Member name removed) is referring to double seal the perimeter, even though this is NOT required by the manufacturer specifications. We did NOT charge (Member name removed) for this additional work. We also suggested he hire a masonry contractor to tuckpoint and seal his roof parapet walls as this may be a source of moisture. Year two: (Member name removed) calls and says the roof still has soft spots and he still has dripping fron can lighting on very hot humid summer days. Now mind you, he never leaks when it rains or when snow is melting. Joe again goes out and surmises that in fact (Member name removed) does NOT have a roofing issue but has a ventilation issue which is causing condensation and overheating at his can lights. Joe nevertheless, opens up roof to see inside and discover that due to the poor ventilation, some of the plywood decking has rotted. Joe replaces the plywood, reassembles roof . Again NO charge to (Member name removed). Joe tries to explain that there is no cross ventilation in (Member name removed) attic space and this needs to be addressed or the problem will continue to occur. (Member name removed) asks Joe if he can recitfy the problem. Joe says I can cut breather vents in between each rafter space for $350.00 per vent. (Member name removed) is not convinced this is the problem and goes on the offensive. He files a complaint with the BBB. He loses. He files a complaint with the Illinois Attorney General. Gets no where. And now , he resubmits his Angies List review to show he can damage our reputation if he wants to. Bravo (Member name removed), but the facts will remain. Any level headed person will see that this is NOT a roofing issue, that the roof was in fact installed correctly, that you fail to address the real issue and you are being vindictive with no basis. I proudly stand my companies hundreds of A reviews, our 30 year roofing knowledge and our customer care that even in your case has gone above and beyond reasonable expectations. (Member name removed) will not recieve his unwarranted refund desired .We went above and beyond.

Stephen was VERY PROFESSIONAL, kind and honest. He took many pictures of the work (since I cannot go up on the 40ft. ladder) and he submitted them to me immediately via computer. He captured everything that needed to be fixed. We are not desperate to have the work done, but know we will eventually need work to be done. I had a very very good experience with him and his company. I hope to use them. He did a follow up phone call and tried to readjust one of the estimates for me. I hope to be able to do work with Champion Roofing. With the economy right now, things are tight so I am waiting until it is the right time for our family, but when the times comes to do the work, I will really want Champion.

It went very well. They did the work the day they said they would. They also did a complete tear off and re-roof before lunch time -- these guys are fast. They had a large team (about 7). Overall the experience was good. Most of my communication regarding the quotes was done via e-mail. I always received timely responses to the my questions. Once we decided to go with Champion Roofing I worked with a project manager. I only had to deal with him on two occassions, but one time he completely missed a scheduled appointment time and called several hours later to inform him why he didn't show up. He said he would be around the next day and didn't arrive until close to 6 pm. I'm thankful I didn't have to take off work to meet with him, otherwise I would have been more upset. On the day of the project a crew of two arrived to do the work. I received a call from the project manager telling me the crew was on their way and when to expect them. The work the crew did was very good. The project ended up taking an extra day and they cleaned up thoroughly at the end of the work day as well as when the job was completely finished. Overall I am pleased with my experience with Champion Roofing.

Awesome - David was great to work with. He and the team were prompt, professional, fast, friendly, affordable and the crew did a great job cleaning up afterwards. I really appreciated their flexibility on going above and beyond on painting the dormer (not their usual line of business) since it kept me from having to hire another vendor to do a small job.
Description of Work: Champion Roofing tore off about 3 layers of shingles on our 1919 bungalow, replaced a few boards on the original roof deck, installed an ice and water shield with roof felt on top, and covered that with new architectural shingles. They installed a new ridge vent, chimney flashing, and other trim work. They put aluminum siding on my dormers and, going the extra mile, agreed to painted the trim around the dormers since I'm doing the paint job myself but couldn't reach the dormers without getting vertigo.

Champion did my roof replacement and I was really happy with their work so decided to have them do a little tuckpointing as well. They did a great job and I feel a little guilty giving them a B on quality since it's mainly because I was doing a really cheap job on the steps repairing them since replacing them wasn't in the budget. They were really honest about what I should expect in terms of quality for the step repair so it was an informed decision and I appreciate their honesty about what they could do.
