He did work for me on 06/27/14 & 12/04/14. During my first dealings with A. Burgess the dead bolt lock in the door to my garage would not unlock from either side of the door. A. Burgess informed me that the builder of my 5.5 year old house used substandard ?builders grade? material during the construction of my house so he could not repair the dead bolt lock and it would need to be replaced. He replaced a total of three dead bolt locks for me. I called A. Burgess to adjust a door due shifting caused by temperature change on 12/04/14. A. Burgess removed my door knobs during this repair visit. Exactly one month after his visit my front door knobs nearly fell off. A. Burgess told me that I?d need to pay for another service call for him to replace the knobs. I called the builder of my home and he sent his repair person who explained that the screws securing the knobs to the doors were loose and the knobs did not need to be replaced. I rarely use my front door and I don?t know how those screws came loose after being serviced by A. Burgess however the only person to take the door knob off was A. Burgess and it was not necessary for him to remove the knob to adjust the door. I called and discussed this issue with Mr. Burgess and he said he did not take the door knob off the door. I explained that I witnessed him taking the knob off the door. I asked him to pay the cost of the service call for the work on my door knob and he refused but he agreed to refund the cost of replacing one dead bolt. He promised to send a check but it never arrive. This guy appeared to be leaving the screws loose to keep me on a string of unneeded repairs--Stay away from the guy!

Response from A Burgess Locksmith
It took me a long time to respond to this review, because I simply couldn’t understand why anyone could want to go to such lengths get something for nothing. It’s no secret that builders use low line products when building homes, and it happens to be very common with the lock sets. The first visit to this home we replaced two deadbolts, one was broken the other was not, he wanted to be proactive with the second one, due to the fact the hardware was not the greatest, and you simply cannot get parts for generic brands. Im sorry you feel that your builder used the best of the best, but he didn’t, or I wouldn’t have been there in the first place. I would also like to point out that this customer like all of my Residential Customers, got the Parts/Locks at 10% over my cost. That 10% covers my order/pickup time. I DO NOT hide my labor in materials cost like most others do. So the notion that I’m just trying to sell you more parts would be a failing business model for me. Now, to address the second visit to this home, the visit that unfortunately cost me a customer forever. The call was not due to the door alignment as you stated…. It was due to yet another one of your “Builder Grade” deadbolts breaking on the inside. It was the last one you had left of this poor brand, i showed you the broken part. You were happy for me to install the new lock to match the others we had installed in the past, AGAIN at 10% over what I pay for it. AFTER the new deadbolt was installed You mentioned the bottom latch no longer catches when you close the door, I informed you that its due to shifting and temp. changes and is VERY common in this area. I also offerd to adjust the DOOR STRIKE, thats the part on the door jamb, it is not connected in any way to the DOOR KNOB. Anyway, I relocated the door strike down approximately 1/4” so the latch would catch, collected for services, and I was on my way. 2 Months later, ***** called me and stated that his knob was loose, and wanted to set up a service call for me to come out and fix it, It was a voice mail he left because I was away. When we finally spoke, I informed him that there would be a service charge IF the problem was not related to the previous work, he didn’t like that very much, as he was convinced that I had sabotaged his Lock so I could sell him a new one to which I make almost no profit from. He was also convinced that I removed his knob during his deadbolt replacement, I don’t make it a habit of doing extra work for no reason, in fact I don’t know anyone who would do such a thing. As he stated, removing the knob is not required to adjust the latch…. This customer hired a different company to come tighten the knob to the door…He than demanded that I pay the invoice to the other company, I said there was no way I going to pay someones else bill. instead I offered a full refund of the last service call, It takes a long time to refund a Credit card Trans from 2 months ago , and I was not in any hurry to be honest. Then I saw this review on the World Wide Web for everyone to see, buddy you just blew you chance of a refund. A guy can only so nice. To finish my response to this review, I want you all to know that THIS review site wanted me to “PAY” for and ad service so they could help me burry this review, Ill have you all know that I rejected the offer…. I am not afraid of negative reviews, You can learn a lot from them. However this review was not completely false, it had some untruths to be nice. Also in the defense of this customer, I actually think he believes what he is saying is true, I could tell it in his voice…. he also had a good chance of getting what he wanted in the first place, but It was the way he handled it that caused the discourse. Furthermore, anyone who has used me in the past, or is still one of my cherished customers knows I would never treat anyone this way. My customers support my Family, with out them, There is no A. Burgess Locksmith. I will end with a Sincere Apology to ***** for the way this all went down. Jarrod-

Jarrod was very professional and courteous. He came out to our house quickly (on a holiday weekend) and made us several new keys for our Travel trailers. (the one we had broke and he was able to make the new keys from the broken one) We will definitely use his services in the future if the need arises.
