I love these guys. We contact them at least once a summer convinced that our A/C needs to be replaced. They come out, fix the problem, usually cheaply, and tell us we might need to replace the A/C but not quite yet. They respond quickly. They can usually come out quickly. Our 30 year old furnace is still working and they say the same thing, you'll probably need to replace this soon, but you don't need to yet. It's been 6 years.
Description of Work: Came to fix our air conditioner that wasn't working.

They gave me a number of choices to fit a new furnace into my old (100+ years) house and helped me select the best option to fit my budget. They were able to integrate the new furnace into my existing duct work with minimum alterations, their metalwork was very clean. They also had to add a new pvc chimney in which they located along a back wall for astetics, rather than taking an easier route through a basement window. They re-routed the gasline and electrical lines to keep the the assembly compact. They kept their work area clean over three days, which showed that they respected their customer's dwellings. We'll see how well this works in the fall when the house is closed up.
Description of Work: Removed and replaced old furnace with new high efficiency model.

I think they felt bad because they could not definitely diagnose the problem. They reduced the rate to only $75 for about 90 minutes of work, which was very nice from the quoted $95 rate. It turns out I looked up an old work friend that was in the HVAC business. He ran the same diagnostics quoted me between less than $200 to determine the problem. Came back twice will all the right equipment - reclamation machine; acetylene torch, drying canister, etc. Turns out Weirich WAS right, there were some small plastic particles at the A-coil pin valve. Jeff removed these, put back in the old freon, put in a dryer canister which has to be done when you remove/refill the freon. The AC is working like a champ - here's to another 12 years!
Description of Work: Central AC coil was frosting over, I suspected a problem with the compressor. Used the List to find this contractor in my area. Called on Friday, for quick service as it was HOT. No call back Monday morning; so I called again and spoke to the owner. They arrived around 9:30 that morning. Spent a good deal of time diagnosing the problem - after doing thorough cleaning of the compressor coil with hose and checking pressure levels on the freon, they said the problem was basically unrepairable. Either the compressor was bad, or the "pin valve" into the A-coil was blocked by something. They did not want to further diagnose as they claimed they did not have the reclamation equipment or some such and it would be too expensive to pursue and may not fix the problem. The unit was 12 years old, so they gave me a verbal quote for a new unit. (Why verbal and not written, I have no idea?)

My husband and I were pleased with the result. We did not tell them that they were really giving us a second opinion. (The first company that came, after selling us a maintenance package in the winter, told us we needed a new filter, which the last tech had told us that we could just wash out a few times before replacing, and then that we basically needed a new part for the unit (over 1,000.00) or a new air conditioner ($$$$$$$)) The "other" company was initially coming to do the "Check-up" that I had paid $80.00 extra for last winter - stupid me.) Our tech from Weinrich and Sons never tried to sell us anything that we didn't need, he spent a lot of time cleaning the outside unit, etc. We will call them again.
Description of Work: A neighbor gave us their number, so we thought we'd try them out. They gave our air conditioner a check up, cleaning, and did not try to tell us we needed a new unit, filter, or sell us some sort of yearly maintenance package, unlike other companies had done to us recently. We recieved friendly service from Wes, our technician. Will definitely call them again next year.
