We engaged Tom Burrell of TD Burrel D&S for a deck renovation project that involved updating an aging wooden deck with TimberTech composite decking. From the outset, Tom demonstrated exceptional craftsmanship, creative spirit, and a deep understanding of the materials. We selected Tom due to his expertise and experience with TimberTech, his competitive pricing, and his flexibility with the project scope. We received quotes from three other deck companies, all of which were more expensive and less accommodating. Tom was thorough, detailed, flexible, patient, and kind. We recommend Tom and his work, however, a few considerations to keep in mind: 1. Our project was planned for 2023 but was ultimately delayed into 2024 due to unforeseen financial circumstances and impacts from other projects. Though unplanned and unfortunate, Tom maintained consistent communication with us throughout this period. 2. Tom operates mostly as a one-man team. While this is reflected in his lower overhead costs, it also means that the project pace will likely be slower compared to companies with larger teams. Our project was initially scheduled for a few weeks but ultimately took several months to complete due to necessary structural corrections, additions to the work order, intermittent issues with equipment and weather. 3. We recommend proactively asking about potential incremental costs for any changes in scope and stipulating that any updates be discussed and agreed upon in writing before implementation. For our specific project, corrections were necessary to the existing deck structure and additional items were discussed and added to the work. This resulted in the final project cost exceeding our initial budget expectation. While these changes were required and requested, discussions regarding the additional costs occurred late in the project. Keeping all parties aligned on scope and cost will help avoid any surprises and make finalizing the project easier. Despite these considerations, Tom is committed, easy to work with, and delivered a beautiful deck that our family will enjoy for many years to come.

Tom Burrell recently remodeled our deck, and the results exceeded our expectations. He tore out the old deck, re-leveled the beams, replaced the joists, and installed six 6x6 cedar posts. He used TimberTech composite decking with invisible fasteners for a seamless look, adding a complementary border and middle divider for extra style. He rebuilt the stairs, installed deck lighting along the border, posts, and steps, and added stunning cedar cross-members that perfectly blend modern and rustic design. Tom’s attention to detail is unmatched. He maintained an immaculate worksite, cleaning up daily, and clearly takes pride in his craft. He thoughtfully designed the deck and executed every element with care and precision. Tom is also a veteran and a genuinely kind person. His professionalism, craftsmanship, and work ethic are top-notch. We couldn’t be happier and highly recommend him to anyone looking for high-quality deck work!

Bottom line, took our money in April 2023, did nothing, hasn’t refunded it. Highly unrecommended. In early 2023 we found Tom thru Angi, for a deck replacement project. He created a design for a beautiful deck made from TimberTech, and required a deposit for all material and half the labor charge, $21,600. The price was steep for us, as my husband and I are retirees in our 70s, but he was scheduled to start in July (2023), per our contract. Then all the excuses started. According to him, every problem known to man occurred on his earlier projects. By the end of the year we had no confidence in him at all and requested our deposit back. Since then, more and more excuses. He doesn’t have enough business, he doesn’t have the money to pay us back. We’ve resigned ourselves to the expense of taking him to court, and our lawyer has contacted him. Tom say he doesn’t cheat people - if that’s true, he needs to pay up right away. Otherwise, what do you call it if you do no work and keep our money?

Tom is a perfectionist and does amazing work.

I paid Tom a $27,500 deposit in early May 2022 to purchase the TimberTech materials for my deck. He was supposed to start the project in July and complete it around August 1st. In early July, Tom told me that he was running late on another project and there would be a ~30-day delay. He told me the same thing in early August, and again in early September. In October, after sitting on my deposit for 5 months, he told me he would not be able to start my project until after winter. At that point, I fired him. When I asked for a refund, he said he spent my money on the materials for the other project but he would pay me in a few weeks after he completed the job. Thankfully, I used a credit card with fraud protection and I got my money back by disputing the charge with my bank. I don't know if Tom is a professional scammer or if he's just terrible at managing projects but he royally screwed me. We didn't use our deck all summer because it's in bad shape. Now I have to find someone else and start the process over again.

Tom does excellent work, and he has a great attention to detail. The project took much longer than initially estimated but that was a result of Tom having to repair and redesign the initial builder's faulty construction techniques and substandard materials. Tom had excellent design ideas and product knowledge that allowed for the end product to be beautiful, safe and functional. This is not a negative, but quality work and materials do not come cheap.

The service was great and came out awesome. They came with the design and we really like it.

I was satisfied with the service. They provide ideas on how to make the deck stronger. I don't have any issue, and they give a 1-year warranty.

I have used Tom to do repairs to my kitchen floor. He did a beautiful job bringing it back to like new. Do not even hesitate to hire him for your job. Not only is he great at what he does but is very fair and a nice guy.

Everything Went perfect I love my deck! It took a little longer because the deck was attached to the house and when we took out the old one realized that we had to repair the side of the house. No worries though because Tom did that too! Tom also installed some lighting for me, replaced my backsplash in the kitchen and assembled some furniture for me. The biggest was the deck which turned out beautiful! But Tom can do everything, does it very well, can be trusted, and I’ll be calling him again to stain the new deck in spring.

It went great. Tom is very personable and professional. He takes great pride in his work and it shows. I was very happy with the result and would recommend his services to anyone who would need this type of work done. He even fixed my outside electrical outlet free of charge.
