Handy Men & Mrs Helper Kitchen & Bath

I was not surprised that two days after confirming the price, at the agreed time of 7:00 am,. the team of three painters were in front of our house and ready to go. They couldn't have been more poite, pleasant, or considerate in the two days it took to paint all trim and apply two coats of paint. They even helped me hang some oversized artwork that I couldn't reach in my bathroom and foyer. There was NO mess left behind and their work is extremely well done. No drips, smudges, stains or even dark fingerprints. I am THRILLED!!

Faith was quick to respond to my initial call and was very pleasant. Steve came out to do the work and was right on time. He took his shoes off at the door which many people dont do, nice touch !!!!! Faith called a week or so later to make sure I was happy with the work and to wishus a merry christmas, which was very nice as well !!!

My smoke alarm was going off as if it were signaling it didn't have power . . . for three days. I called Handyman and Mrs, Helper on Monday and ask for the fastest appointment possible. There were also small electrical tasks I had been wanting to conquer. Despite one person being on vacation and a packed schedule for the other handyman, I was given an early morning appointment on New Year's Day. Steve walked in and got the alarm to stop immediately. He then systematically went through tasks such as installing a new doorbell, fixing an outdoor electrical outlet and re-connecting my smoke alarm. It took much less time than I expected, he cleaned up afterward and everything was done perfectly. Plus, the people at this company are very friendly and never make me feel silly for not knowing how to fix or solve the problems I've called about. I recommend them highly!

Mike showed up on time, was very professional, very polite. Took a look at the patio door and explained that it might have to come out in order to see the rollers and that it could take a couple of hours perhaps. But then he reconsidered and started cleaning an applying WD40 and doing some adjustments and was able to get the patio door back to normal within 30 - 40 mins. Saved me a bundle right there. He had looked at the other jobs I had and gave me estimates He worked on the bathtub and shower caulking and did a great and clean job very quickly. He removed the old light fixture and installed a new one in no time. All in all, a good experience and definitely will be going back to them/him for future work. The only negative thing I can think about is that I had mentioned that caulking was one of the jobs and perhaps he should've bought the caulk with him (and charged me) instead of having to go out and buy the caulk which took about 20 - 25 mins of billable time. But he made up for it by thinking of an alternate solution for my patio door problem. All in all, he showed a great sense of urgency in finishing the job, as well and as fast as he could.

I love Ivo and Urmas! These guys painted a huge basement (including a very porous ceiling), 3-car garage, master bedroom and bath, 2 bedrooms, hallways including up and down stairs, entryway, and kitchen for me before doing this project. They do an amazing job - quickly, professionally and neatly. My husband is super picky about the line between the walls and ceiling being straight - and he always comments about how great the rooms look. These guys are the best painters I've ever worked with - when they are done, they do a great job of cleaning up leaving only a little dust. Urmas worked his magic in fixing a botched drywall repair on a wall and repaired sizable holes in the drywall ceiling (from hvac service) in the basement. I feel bad that I underemployed these guys. They are no doubt capable of doing so much more, but my house is newer and doesn't need anything done to it.

I think the service was excellent. The fellow who came out was knowledgeable, helpful and creative. Steve was a good problem solver as well.

Faith and Steve were both very responsive. Steve was not able to fix it, but he steered me in the right direction to get it repaired under warranty.

I called Handy Men and Mrs. Helper because we had our basement finished and the contractor we used didn't finish a couple things that he should have and we did not want him to come back and finish and so I went on Angie's list and found Handy Men and Mrs. Helper and they were awesome. I called and she was able to schedule two men to come to our house and do the work that we needed done, hooking up washer and dryer, installing a cabinet, taking off a door and doing some electrical work that should have been done originally by the contractor. She was able to get them out to my home within a couple days. They were very efficient, friendly and professional. I will be calling them from now on if I need other projects completed! Very happy!!

My wife just died on November 22 and I needed the bedroom redone before I could use the room as I did home hospice with the last month of my wife's life. I needed to change the room before I could go back in this room or even use it for anything. They were very good at getting my needs taken care of really quickly and did a really nice job. They came in and moved furniture and removed doors for painting and had finished in a day and a half. Really nice folks to work for you.

My dealing with this company was extremely smooth and stress-free from the start to the end. Faith got the project details from me and immediately set up an appointment with Tim for the very next day. Tim was extremely professional. He worked really h****** the doors that were not shutting properly from the day we moved into our new residence. During the process, he sanded the doors outside in the cold to prevent any dust in the house. He located the power source for the timer-controlled outside light in the attic and turned it off for us. He ran to the homedepot to get the new tubes and the ballast to fix the garage light. The repairs would have been a tricky job for any ordinary, inexperienced repair person. I would definitely recommend this company for any of your handyman needs.

Faith and Rod provided clear, direct and prompt communication from beginning to end. They stayed in close touch with us during the scheduling, performance of work and after to ensure completion of the work with high quality. Their workers were all very respectful and considerate when working around us and we were very pleased with the value of the work overall. We will hire them again in a heartbeat!

Mike showed up ON TIME and reviewed the jobs that we identified for him to work on. He set up with cover for all of our furniture in the living and dining area to prevent dust from covering them. This was really important for our grand piano. He reviewed the jobs, assessed what provisions were needed for the work and purchased those nearby at Sherwin-Williams. He completed all of the these tasks in about 6-7 hours. He did a good job of cleaning up the work areas. Although some residual dust needed to be handled by my wife and myself, we were pleased with his efforts to minimize our work after the job was done.

Hank was the handyman that worked on these projects. He arrived on schedule and we reviewed the supplies he would need in order to complete the jobs. Although the original builder had framed the window over the sill rather than butted up against it, Hank was able to cut the sill cleanly and then removed the damaged wood from under the window unit. He replaced the damaged board and sealed all open areas around it. Prior to placing the new sill, he placed insulation inside the open areas beneath the sill in order to maximize the efficiency of the window. Hank reviewed the second job (the attic stairs) and determined that the space that was available over the garage was not suitable for storage so this part of the project was not completed. It was appreciated that he was honest about this as we were able to take the stairs back to the home improvement center and get our money back.

Hank came at exactly 9am and did my estimate. He was pretty much dead on. He found my water heater was leaking! The following week he arrived to do the work and explained everything he was going to do. We ran into a situation where we had to run a drain line for the water softener. But we talked about our options and I ended up buying a new sink with cabinet. Hank was nice enough to come with me to Home Depot and pick out the right size. Within 20min after getting back home with the cabinet he was done. He cleaned up after he was done and also showed me the receipts for the extra copper he had to pay for. He came back another day to finish up the tankless water heater. The parts I had bought to exhaust the water heater wasn't enough. That didn't stop him. He got the unit up and running and came back to finish it up yesterday. He also removed my water heater from my second floor and took it with him. This saved me time and effort trying to find a way to get it out of my house. When I'm ready to work on other home projects I plan on calling Handy Men & Mrs Helper!

They did a lot and we were very happy them. They were very neat in their work. They were very responsive, and were good about estimating the time it would actually take to get things done. I have no complaints at all!

Having used Handymen and Mrs. Helper on a previous window box installation, we were impressed with their timely response and attention to detail. When we called Rod, he arrived quickly and gave us an estimate the same day. He provided us a detailed list of the work to be done and he answered our many questions along the way as this is our first bathroom remodel. The work was completed within the agreed time frame by Tim who was polite, professional, courteous and always on time. Half way through the remodel Reign was assigned to do the drywall work which exceeded our expectations. Tim again paid special attention to the details of this project and we are extremely pleased with the end result. We will not hesitate to call Rod and Faith of Handymen and Mrs. Helper for any of our future "handyman" projects. We love our new bathroom!

Handy Men and Mrs Helper were wonderful. They responded promptly when I contacted them and given the amount of work and distance (they work out of the North suburbs and we are in Plainfield). They came up with a cost effective plan to keep our costs down. We had two men for the entire day. We just moved into our home and had a ton of things to do. Hang art work (35), large framed sports memorabilia, plate collection (50 in a two story space), fix our gate, install shelving in the garage, and other things I am forgetting. They were efficient, managed the work so that they had little or no down time. My husband and I have major health issues and Handy Men and Mrs Helper came in and in one day did the DYI projects that may seem relatively easy to some, but would have taken us years to complete. They turned our new house full of boxes and projects into a home. And they felt like family. I would recommend them without reservation.

Very straightforward story: I called, spoke to Steve and arranged a time for him to come by. We had no issues and he worked away while I did some other household chores.

They were courteous, understanding, very accommodating and professional. They did a great job. I would recommend them to anybody.

I am very happy with quality of work

This was an intense sort of situation - friend's health is not good and it was important to have help to get her place back up to speed as quickly as possible. Faith, Rod and Todd got it, and worked tirelessly to get the work done. It was a wonderful experience working with Todd. He showed up on time, worked hard and efficiently AND cheerfully. Faith was in touch during the entire time, checking to make sure that all was working out the way we wanted. It is a rare and special opportunity when you can work with professionals who are also compassionate human beings. They not only fixed the household, they brought renewed hope to my friend and have earned my lasting gratitude and appreciation. Thanks to All of You for what you did and the care you gave - you truly changed a life!

The job was done right away (came out next day for estimate) and started following week. Only took 3 days to do the job, but a 4th day to repaint the bedroom with 2 coats. Very efficient and great job.

I called and left a message and they called back that day. By the end of the day I had an appointment booked two days later. They arrived on time and took care of all issue in no time at all. Everyone was very nice and professional. I will use them again.

When I first contact Handy Men & Mrs. Helper, I did so via email. My email was promptly answered that same day and after a few additional emails back and forth with Faith hammering out details, she put me in touch with her husband Rod, who called me the next day. After discussing our projects w/ Rod, he was clear on what we needed and set us up with one of their handymen, Tim, who lives just 10 minutes north of us. Tim was great. Even before he came to our house, he emailed me ahead of time and suggested that he could start even earlier than 8am, as originally scheduled, since he knew we needed to get our jobs done ASAP and he knew he had a job scheduled for the afternoon of that very same day. So we agreed to 7:30am and he was right on time. I walked Tim through our house, showed him the bi-fold's and louvered door we needed installed, along w/ a leaky outdoor spigot, assuming he had time to work on it. The bi-fold's were fairly straight forward...one set I had already removed, so Tim just had to remove the old hardware and install the new set, including the new track, while the second closet required that the old bi-fold's/hardware be removed as well. Not an easy feat, as they were apparently installed to stay here for good, but finally he was able to remove the old doors, install the new track, and install the new doors that I had purchased. He balanced both sets of doors to my liking and they look great! Tim also did a great job on our louvered door that we had custom ordered. I had alredy removed the old door and hinges and Tim then had to sand down the spots where we had bondo inserted into the old holes. Once complete, he cut out new holes for the new hinges/lock, and later hung the door beautifully....level and it closes perfectly!!! As he did w/ the bi-fold's, Tim cleaned up after himself and for each installed, he made sure it was to my liking before putting on the finishing touches. Everything went so well, w/ really no problems, that he still had time to look at my outdoor spigot, which was dripping, even after I closed the shut-off valve inside the house. He determined the source of the leak was a bad washer, which he found, once he opened up a portion of the spigot. He not only had a new washer w/ him, but he also secured the spigot to the wall which was very loose and inserted sealant around it. I was very glad to get this done, as winter is just around the corner! All in all, it was a very good experience with this company!!! They certainly lived up to their many good reviews on Angie's List. Customer service and response time for both office staff and the service personnel was superb! Their normal hourly rate is $90/hour, but first time customers get it knocked down to $80. Not cheap, but appears to be the going rate these days, based on dealings w/ other handyman companies in the past. My project was completed quickly, yet very professionally.....Tim had everything done for us in 4 hours! Great experience!

Steve is amazing at what he does. He takes great pride in his work and it shows. His work is always meticulous and he cleans up thoroughly. I was in a real bind when my water heater was leaking all over my laundry room on a Sunday morning. I emailed him begging for help and he was out later that day. The bad grades obviously have nothing to do with Steve. They are from my dealings with Rod, one of the owners. I called him because I didn't understand my bill. I wanted to know why the work took so long to do. (At $80/hour, they are not cheap.) I'm sure Rod hates dealing with people like me. I admittedly don't have any idea what goes into completing those jobs. Instead of calmly explaining my bill and everything that had to be done, he responded in an extremely rude and condescending tone. He asked if I thought Steve was trying to rip me off. He then proceeded to tell me everything he and Steve did for free. For example, when they were putting my washer/dryer back in my laundry room, they noticed that the hoses were corroded and needed to be replaced or that would be the next leak in my house. Rod never told me that he replaced them. However, how could Rod expect me to be appreciative of something I didn't know was done? There are MANY examples of Steve going above and beyond. It is just what he does. (Like coming out on Sunday, on a moment's notice. He and Rod didn't charge me for it. I would never ask anyone to come out on a Sunday for free. I didn't even realize that it was not included in the bill.) I have been working with Handy Men and Mrs. Helper for over 4 years, in 2 different houses. I just moved into this house and I have a LOT more to do. I have even talked to Faith, the other owner about how I was going to get it all done. If Rod would have talked to me in a calm, respectful manner, it would have strengthened our working relationship. Instead, I doubt that I will ever work with them again.
