Handy Men & Mrs Helper Kitchen & Bath

I joined Angie's List for a reputable company to install tile and paint the kitchen. The many positive reviews for Handymen and Mrs. Helper, plus the service awards received yearly, led me to call. I was called back promptly and courteously by Faith, and after I got an estimate, the dates for work were set quickly. The tile installer was Heath, and the painter was E.J. Both of them were polite, very professional, and did excellent work. I have no complaints at all. Both answered any questions or concerns I had. Both cleaned up afterwards and left nothing for me to do other than my regular cleaning in the kitchen. This may have been a "small" job compared to a big remodel, but I feel like I was treated the same as if it was a "million dollar" endeavor. There are many things that still need to be done in this house, and I will surely call Handymen and Mrs. Helper in the future.

He refused to give me an estimate as he said he had to charge by the hour and he didn't know what kind of problems he would run in to. I ended up asking him to leave, as he was not someone I wanted to hire.

He was very professional, on time and he cleaned up after himself. He will be returning to complete other tasks.

We are extremely pleased with Faith and the work Urmas did. Urmas was professional, cleaned up after himself, and did excellent work. There was one small problem with the pocket door that we discovered after he left our house Saturday afternoon. We e-mailed Faith that Urmas would need to come back to fix the door and, in about 20 minutes, Urmas called me and scheduled a time to come back SUNDAY morning to remedy the problem. We were shocked he was willing to come back on a Sunday. He fixed the issue with the door and was pleasant about having to come back. For any future odd jobs around our house, we would definitely work with Handymen and Mrs. Helper and would definitely request Urmas to do the work.

Extremely professional, cleaned up messes as best they could and there was a lot of messes, checked with me on everything. I was kept in the loop - no surprises. The transformation was stunning. I already miss Steve at lunch every day. Always there when they said they would be. Often stayed till 7-7:30 at night to keep on schedule. I have truly never dealt with a company so totally trustworthy and open in their dealings. Kept waiting for something to go wrong and it never even came close. I did miss my garage during the coldest winter in decades. It was their staging area. But I got over it and it was all worth the mornings in the driveway. I would not hesitate to recommend Faith and Rod to anyone looking to do small or large jobs at their home and look forward to dealing with them in the future. It was truly a pleasure working with them

First off, I wish I could attach pictures of the beautiful work Handy Men & Mrs Helper performed, but it does not look like that is possible with Angies't List. Before choosing a company to perform work in our home I read reviews on a number of companies on Angie's List. I chose Handy Men & Mrs Helper because it's exceptionally difficult to achieve such a high rating over so many customers and I knew it could not be a fluke. I could also tell from Faith's (co-owner) responses to people that she really cared about making people happy. Well, Handy Men & Mrs Helper did not disappoint! Before I get to the details I have to mention what a breath of fresh air it is to work with a family owned company with a single point of contact who's words and actions indicate they deeply care about their work and their Clients. Throughout the process Faith, and Chris (who performed the work) were wonderful. After a couple days even our dogs loved Chris and would greet him excitedly each day! I should mention that while they can clearly perform outstanding "handy work", their skills clearly extend well beyond what I suspect most people envision when they hear that word, and I'd not hesitate to also consider them for remodel and other more advanced work. In our case we needed a variety of work performed around the house. We wanted stair gates to keep our dogs from the upstairs but wanted something more attractive and easy to use then the traditional store bought child safety gates. Chris custom built beautiful stair gates (the word "gate" really does not do it justice) at the bottom of all of our stairs, he even stained the top to match our stair railing. We also wanted a Dutch door installed, Chris custom built one for the opening, and again did an amazing job of building it to match all of the rest of the pre-existing doors in the house. I can't recommend Handy Men & Mrs Helper highly enough.

Had an attic/shower drain issue which lead to my plumber needing to cut a large hole in the bathroom ceiling below it to replace the drain. The cut wasn't clean, needed a lot of detailed work to restore the ceiling. Rein Ausmees did a beautiful job repairing the ceiling, as well as some water damage that had settled in the first floor dining room. I'd highly recommend Faith and her team -- I'd call them again for other issues as well.

Pawel arrived yesterday and we showed him what needed to be done and where all new items were located . He immediately started working on doors ; removed old doors and got new doors ready for install after making several measurements. He installed new passage locks and hinges ,adjusted door frames to fit new doors. Today he finished any minor adjustments and finished painting all doors with three coats of Semi-Gloss . We are totally thrilled with the finished product. This was a totally professional project from Handy Men and Mrs Helper. Faith made sure that all information and scheduling was in place. She also called to make sure we were satisfied. The workmanship, courtesy, professionalism, promptness and cleanup has exceeded our expectations. Handy Men and Mrs Helper are definitely a keeper in our estimation and will use them for our other projects or any item that needs attention. I would strongly recommend this company to anyone ; Handy Men and Mrs Helper deserve a Five Star rating . Thanks Faith and Pawel.

Looked great when done in two days time. As I imagine with any such work, and despite the taping of plastic everywhere, there was quite a bit of saw dust in our kitchen cabinets and on countertops.

Small Job People Don't Waste Your Time Calling Faith! I told Faith I wanted a quote for resurfacing and painting our entire kitchen and I told her repeatedly that I will be upgrading my downstairs next. She refused to send someone to provide a quote, because, "they all live north of Barrington and they wont be in my area anytime in the near future". Faith, I live 11 miles from you and the rest of the contractors quoting this job are 15+miles away. Instead, Faith wanted me to describe the room and give me a quote over the phone. I just wanted to share this with others, because these situations are extremely frustrating for people trying to find a good company to partner up for home improvement projects.

Took less time than I thought it would, and our new toilet is great.

Faith and Ron were great. I had a previous drywall contractor cancel on me and they were able to get in within three days to keep my project on schedule! Very up front and trustworthy. I immediately gave them the tiling job for my fireplace. Perfectly done as well!!

I have used Handyman and Mrs. Helper on several previous jobs and was always thoroughly pleased with the work they did. So I contacted Faith on Sunday, January 5, by e-mail and almost immediately after sending my message, Faith called to let me know that she could have someone at my house to do my necessary work on Tuesday, January 8. I was ecstatic, because I had just received a shipment of nine boxes of bi-fold closet doors that were sitting in my living room and a bedroom because I had no place else to store them. Pawel was scheduled to arrive at 8:00 a.m. but called me to let me know he was stuck in traffic. A truck had been in an accident and had traffic blocked for miles. I told him I understood and that there was no problem. I wasn't going anywhere. He arrived around 9:00 a.m., and after I showed him what I wanted done, he immediately started working. He worked all day by himself without my needing to be present. I have had bad experiences (or time consuming experiences) with other handyman companies where I had to "hold the handyman's hand" all day while they did their work. With Pawel, I was able to do personal and business office work while he completed all the jobs I had requested including the installation and painting of the doors, installing a pull-out drawer in an under-counter cabinet, fixing the lock on my patio door, and moving all the packing material and old doors out to the curb for later pickup by my waste management service. He did a beautiful, very professional job on all the projects I had lined up for him. Before I knew it, it was 4:00 p.m. and he had completed all the jobs I had scheduled. I cannot say enough about Pawel and all the other handyman services that Handyman and Mrs. Helper have provided. Their entire staff is professional, knowledgeable, and meticulous in the work they do. You cannot get a better handyman service than Handyman and Mrs. Helper. Thank you Faith for sending Pawel and thank you Pawel for the fantastic job you did! It was a pleasure working with both of you.

Perfectly on time. Laid down sheets to cover floors that they were walking on going in and out the house. Very neat and clean. They worked in a timely manner. Finished faster than I had expected which was nice! I would use them again in a heartbeat! Very nice to work with and were able to meet my crazy work hours with no problem! A#1 in my book!

Great! Faith was so responsive and she was able to nail down a time for the work, and get me to organize my wants and needs so that the work can be completed quickly. Tom was great for all the handyman work - very efficient and thorough and easy to work with. I was not expecting to have Faith give me a time and date (right before the holidays) for doing the work, but she was able to get Tom out within a week. His part of the work was about $2400 for 4 days of work. Virgo and Rein did the painting and they came twice to give me an estimate. At first, I thought the estimate for painting was kind of high, but my house has a lot of intricate trim (crown molding, baseboards, etc) and they did a fantastic job. We had our painting done in parts of the house 5 years ago, and what a difference! Rein and Virgo did such a fantastic job. It was no comparison in terms of the quality of work compared to the "bargain" we got 5 years ago. They left the house clean everyday and they were pleasant and efficient. I was hosting my office Holiday Party on 12/13, and they came out and got all the first floor painting done in time for the party (I only called them the week before Thanksgiving to schedule it). Overall, I'm very happy with the work. I definitely will use them again for any future work! I am so happy to have finally found a handyman company that I have complete trust in.

The handyman arrived on time as scheduled and completed all the jobs as requested. The closet doors look great! I will call again for future repairs and would recommend them to friends and family.

Pawel was punctual and quite helpful. I had a variety of small items that needed to be fixed around the house. He worked from early in the morning to the evening to try to get everything complete in one day. All of the work looks great and he definitely knows what he is doing. He was helpful with giving me advice about anything and what to expect going forward with the repairs.

Pawel did an excellent job. The door which he installed fits the wall perfectly and matches the other doors in the finished basement. The door looks like it was always there and put in when the basement was finished. (You could never tell that it was put in later.) Pawel does excellent work. (I'm very pleased.)

Doug arrived on-time. We had arranged for that day because he told me that if we waited any longer the ground would be too cold to install the new mailbox. I am glad he advised me of such because I really needed my mailbox installed, and I have no experience at all with this. I bought my mailbox from Home Depot. He looked at the wood post the company included and advised me that it was too small to effectively hold the mailbox for longer than about a year. He offered to drive to Home Depot and get a better post, which he did after expertly measuring and determining the size needed. He then installed the mailbox. However, I had failed to notice that the mailbox I had picked up was scratched. He offered to take the mailbox off and take it back to Home Depot and exchange it for another one. I took him up on this because I wanted it to look nice. He offered to do this even though it was more work and hassle for him. Even though in total with the 2 trips to Home Depot and having to then re-install the new mailbox, he only charged the original estimate price of 2 hours even though it took him a total of four. He was very professional and did a terrific, high-quality job.

They were phenomenal. They were absolutely awesome in terms of responsiveness.

I contacted Faith, from Handymen and Mrs. Helper, and explained what I needed done. She set up a time a few weeks later for Chris to come and check out what he would need. I almost canceled due to medical problems, but Faith assured me that Chris would do fine. Chris came and checked out the bathroom for the grab bars and toilet, then went to the Home Depot to buy everything. He was done with all that in less than 2 hours. Then he checked the kitchen sink. He asked if the pipe that leads from one drain to the main drain was ever checked, and I said no. Well- - - - - - - -that was a disaster! He had to go back to H D to get a replacement pipe because that one just crumbled. Then when he was fitting it to the old one, the old one crumbled too. Back to H D he went. About 1/2 hour later, I heard oh no!!! I was afraid to ask. The pipe that led into the wall, and hooked up with the tee in the wall, broke off half of the threads at the end of the pipe. Back to "you know where" he went again. Thank goodness that was where the crumbling pipes stopped. He proceeded to attach all the new pipes. He had to cut a hole in the back of the cabinet to reach the pipe in the wall. So he cut a piece of wood and fit it over the hole. Chris in one of the most pleasant, patient, nice to work with people I have ever met. He was at my house for 9 hours. Wouldn't accept any food, water, etc the whole time. Faith is just a wonderful lady to talk with, and she helped me so much to deal with my own problems. I would definetely work with them again .

As usual the provider response and service performed was awesome! My only concern is that all services quoted are over the phone without an opportunity to meet who will be providing the actual services which can provide a "crap shoot" situation. Having said that, Faith and Rod obviously vet their "handymen" very well and we have not been disappointed! Have used them in the past and will continue to use them in the future.

Steve showed up on time and had the right knowledge to repair the vent system over the stove. It had been incorrectly installed and was causing damage to the ceiling. We even had time to install a new toilet in one of our rental houses. Super job.

We like to thank Tom he did an excellent job the people who install the shower door commented and how good the tile job was done.

Arrived on time as promised, reviewed installation of items and came back with all proper parts. Installed very quickly and finished before the two hours (minimum) we had agreed to. Used the last time to discuss future projects.
