Handy Men & Mrs Helper Kitchen & Bath

I emailed my laundry list on a Saturday and received an immediate reply from Anne, who was incredibly helpful throughout. I sent her photos of the various jobs and she scheduled two "helpers" - Tom, who handled the door installations and replaced the entryway structure; and Virgo who did the drywall patching and painting. Our house looks so much better with the repairs. Both Tom and Virgo were great to work with. I liked that there was flexibility. By this, I mean that I was able to provide stains that I had on hand for one of the doors, but for other paints and needs, I could ask the handymen to use their judgement and get what was needed. I'm no expert and I preferred to let them handle certain aspects. We did have a few unexpected hiccups with the big front door and I was very grateful for Tom's input and guidance to navigate through those. I am really happy with how each of the jobs turned out and I will definitely use them again.

Oh my gosh, is there anything Tom cannot do? I called Handymen and Mrs helper with a huge TO DO list and he knocked them all off with great quality and speed. Anne, the women who handles all the calls, quotes, communication is beyond nice and so great to work with! Needed a boatload of painting, so we used them for that! ( different men- see painting review) Much gratitude to FINALLY getting things done and working with such a professional and capable company! Thanks Anne and Tom!

It was awesome. Tom was right on time. He was very personable and easy to work with; I don’t think even took a break, he was great. They totally exceeded my expectations so much so I am going to use them again for another project in the near future.

Anne and Andy from Hany Men and Mrs. Helper were lovely people to deal with. They responded very well with scheduling a quote for our bathroom and showed up on time. There were some slight delays with receiving the quote from them but not ridiculous and after I contacted them to see where it was at they were responsive again. Then we got the quote and it was ridiculously high. So high that there was no way to negotiate a middle ground. Many times during the quoting process they told us they were very busy, perhaps they just didn't want this job in the first place? 17K for a small bathroom remodel (not including any of the materials) is just outrageous.

Also, it was a pleasure working with Anne, who scheduled the painting contractor. She always responded quickly to our phone calls or emails. The work began only a few days after our first conversation. The contractor, "Matt," answered all our questions at our first meeting and kept in touch with us regarding progress, and promptly returned any phone calls. We would definitely contact Handy Men and Mrs. Helper again for future projects. Our new house now looks and feels like "home" now.

The handyman arrived promptly as scheduled and assessed the situation. He determined that the door was not quite the right size and was able to complete the installation by tearing out the frame and rebuilding a new frame around the slab to correctly install the door.Needless to say I was extremely relieved that he was able to do this and that I would not have to purchase a new pre-hung door which would have set back the listing of the property at least 2-3 weeks. He did a fine job and painted it for me as well. He also assessed and repaired a problem with a ceiling light fixture that the prior handyman installed but then the dimmer was not functioning. He assessed the problem and replaced the dimmer which had been shorted out. He also assisted me in examining the furnace and purchased and installed the appropriate filter for me. He was very knowledgeable and highly skilled in carpentry. He explained everything in detail. The costs were more than I would have thought, but, he spent quite a bit of time completing this and I was grateful that I could get it done ASAP. He worked efficiently and the cost was determined by the length of time the job required. I was ecstatic to see that I could list the house as scheduled. This was a task that the average handyman would have struggled with, but this company made sure that they sent the right man for the job! They had me send photos of the problems and called me twice prior to the scheduled work to make sure that they sent out a service man who could get it done. I was well aware of the fees entailed prior to the work. They really helped me out of a very frustrating situation! I highly recommend this company, and I am certain to call upon them in the future!

We had initially hired a family member to do a bathroom remodeling of our master bathroom, but they were only able to complete primary demolition and create a cement shower basin and custom planter before they had to leave the project. (Free advice: Never hire family!) We had Handy Men and one other contractor come out to bid on the remainder of the project. Both Handy Men and the other contractor bid roughly the same cost for the project, but Rod from Handy Men who inspected the bathroom and gave us the project quote instilled more confidence in his ability, as well as turning in the quote in a timely fashion - we had to wait a long time for the quote from the other contractor. Rod from Handy Men inspected the bathroom, knew exactly what needed to be done and what needed to be re-done, as well as what didn't. Despite the obvious difficulty of coming into a project that was started by someone else, with poorly-defined parameters, Rod navigated through all the particulars with an amazing skill. He picked out many things that the other contractor didn't mention at all, showing extreme knowledge of the work to be done as well as excellent attention to details. He had insightful suggestions for things we hadn't considered, but should have. We agreed to hire them, made a downpayment on the work, and were able to schedule the work to begin almost immediately. Initially they sent out Heath and EJ to complete the set-up work, finishing the application of backer board and preparation for what was largely a tile-installation project. While preparing things, Heath discovered some additional things my family member had done incorrectly (for instance, no insulation on pipes installed on an outside wall) and was able to correct them all. Heath spent approximately two weeks on location, fixing everything and installing tile. Many times he came to me with ideas about how the specifics of the project could be done, and most of the time my response was along the lines of "I have no idea, use your best judgement!" This was an excellent decision, as Heath's judgement is fantastic. He always sought our opinion when there was a decision to be made, but was able to choose the best path when we lacked in leadership. He's a master at tilework, and it shows. We hadn't really thought out any of the specifics of the project, but he was able to make appropriate suggestions on how to bring it all together, and several times contacted our tile supplier to get extra parts or replacements for things that could make the bathroom better. I absolutely could not be happier with his performance. He was also a tireless worker, spending all day here, hard at work. Handy Men also handled sub-contracting the work of hauling off all the garbage the project generated, and creating a custom glass shower door. The subcontractors they selected were just as professional, knowledgeable, and quality as Handy Men themselves. In addition, we'd already contracted out the work of building a custom wood vanity, and Handy Men were able to deal directly with our chosen contractor for that part and work out the specifics of installation between them, without needing us to get involved. This was a huge relief! The amount of time that Handy Men predicted the project would take was exactly how long it did take. The estimate was exactly the total amount. They were professional throughout and are absolute masters at what they do. We've already asked them to work on additional projects for us. I can and would recommend them without any reservations.

It took longer than expected but he was professional nd detail oriented

Everything went very well. Prior to this project, I had done all of the renovations projects myself. So it was difficult for me to let go and let someone else do the work. But it was well worth it after I stepped back and let them take over. Everyone was nice, professional, honest, and on time. Faith and Rod, the couple who own the company were friendly and honest. Rod came out to make the estimate and he explained everything in detail. He also knows his crew very well. The best part of using Handy Men and Mrs. Helper was that they organized everything so that each contractor came in when needed and got the jobs done. I had to call Rod multiple times with questions and changes to the project. I always either reached him right away or received a call back within an hour. I had started the work myself, so I had all of the material already. But I needed to speed up the work and that is exactly what they did for me. It was so nice to sit back and watch everything move so quickly. Brian, the owner of the flooring company that was sub-contracted by Handy Men and Mrs. Helper was very nice also. His crew worked extremely fast and did an amazing job of bringing new life to our 50 year old floors. There were a few things I wish had gone better, but nothing that really bothered me. The one worker tried to fix the squeaks in our wood floor by putting shims between the joists and sub floor. He did some and left some for us to finish up. This wasn't in the contract, so his help was additional and appreciated. Unfortunately, the squeaks came back about a week after adding the shims. This is just a warning to people considering refinishing old squeaky floors. If you can't stand the squeaks, it might be worth replacing the floor so you can properly secure the sub floor. I also had to ask at the end of the job that they install transitions where the new laminate flooring met up with existing flooring. Brian had a guy come out and install the transitions, but it was strange to me that I even had to ask. The drywall and paint guy was Urmas. He was amazing. There were some real challenges for him and he made it look perfect. I couldn't believe how quick he was either. Our bathroom looks amazing because of him. He also installed the tile flooring in our bathroom. It isn't perfect, but it's good enough for me. The concrete floor that he installed over had a lot of dips and I didn't want to grind it flat or level it out. So I think that is the cause for the minor imperfections. Again, I would recommend leveling the sub floor if you are looking for perfection. One thing I really liked was that Rod had notes in the estimate for the different paths that I could take with the work. When they removed the old tile in the bathroom, we didn't now the condition of the concrete underneath. Rod gave a quote if I wanted it ground down so the peal and stick tiles would work and a different quote if I just wanted the ceramic tiles installed. I loved that Rod was willing to work with me on the details of the estimate. When the work was done, all of the debris was removed per my notes in the contract. But there was a lot of dust left behind. I expected that it would be cleaned up better, but I didn't make a fuss. I believe that if I had said something, they would have sent someone out immediately to clean it up. I believe this because when I mentioned a slight leak at our utility sink, they had someone out the next day. If you want someone that is flexible and will work with you, Handy Men and Mrs. Helper is the way to go. Tell them what you want and they will make sure you are happy.

I called the owner, Faith, after finding their review on Angie's List. She called me back very quickly. She was wonderful to deal with on the phone, and we built a great relationship with each other. After explaining what I was looking for, she said she knew exactly who to have do the work. Maciej, the head painter,came out and looked all throughout the house and took notes on what needed to be done. He submitted the job to Faith, and Faith sent me a quote. I asked about bringing the price down a bit, and Faith did. The price included all prep work to the walls, painting, and all of the trim work. I thought it was a very reasonable price for everything that needed to be done. We even had the possibility of changing our starting date, and Faith and Maciej both told me not to worry...that they would start whenever we them needed to. Chris, the carpenter, was here for two days. What a HUGE and BEAUTIFUL difference! Chris did an amazing job! many The painters were here for about 6 days. Everything was done EXACTLY the way I wanted it and envisioned it! I have gotten so many wonderful compliments. I have recommended them to several people. A few days before we moved, I decided I wanted the inside of all the closets painted...I didn't think anyone would be able to come on such short notice, but Faith came through! A gentleman named Raine came two days before our moving date. He also did a GREAT job!! I cannot say enough good things about Handymen and Mrs. Helper and their wonderful and amazing crew!!!! We are planning a complete master bathroom remodel in the near future, and will be calling Handymen and Mrs. Helper to do our master bathroom! You will NOT be sorry! So very professional and great people to work with!!!!

This is an exceptional company. They are customer and service oriented and work with integrity. Mrs. Helper" was friendly and listened carefully to my issues. Since the company has many people who specialize in a variety of areas, she was able to schedule the particular specialist that I needed. Hank called first and then arrived at the agreed time. He assessed the problem pointing out places that I hadn't seen and counseled me through the best solution. He completed the job with expertise, efficiency and professionalism. Within several hours the work was done and the area cleaned. The charges were very reasonable. I will call them again when I have any other issues.

Faith and her team are wonderful. They are responsive and customer service oriented. We have used them for several projects and will continue to use them in the future. If you are looking for honest, hard working quality driven handymen, then call faith and her team today!

The work was completed on time and under budget. We absolutely love the room, and the suggestions given to us by Rod were the perfect ideas to make the space feel as if it had been there from the start. He suggested recessing one wall just a bit from the one it butted up against, and it made the resulting hallway feel very open, That along with placing the door at an angle, prevented the enclosure from closing off the adjoining space. It looks great. Everywhere possible we were given choices that rendered the work or materials less expensive. Lighting was key to the space and Steve did excellent work suggesting locations for and installing the lighting, complete with well-thought-out switch combinations and locations. The work was painless in terms of having workers in my house; they were courteous, clean, quiet, and very accommodating with my schedule and baby naptime. We have been in our house almost 5 years now, and have had this company do all of our handyman work, but this is the first large scale project we have undertaken with them. It was a pleasure working with Handymen and Mrs. Helper and we will continue to use them for all our odd jobs, and not hesitate to contact them with larger projects. We recommend them to all our friends.

I don't know how ANYBODY could ever grade HMMH with anything other than an "AAAAA" rating. To Faith and Rod :: You and your team of tradesmen are the best. Steve, Hank and Doug are polite, professional, and above all, trustworthy. You don't take advantage of your customers. Rather, you have always been willing and able to work with me and for me because of your attitude toward others. We are in the process of finishing our basement, and mistakingly hired another contractor to do the work. We should have stayed with HMMH. After the mess we've been in with this basement contractor, it really hits home to me why I stick with people I know and trust to work in my home. We are meeting with the basement contractor AGAIN today and I have a feeling some bad words will be sent our way. It is sad, because I believe that I am a patient and tolerant person. All I have ever asked for is for work to be done the way it's said it's going to be done . . . nothing more. The contractor we're using (NOT HMMH) is changing things without telling us, canceling things out of the contract without telling us, and still demanding more money. He has lied to us, is a coward, and refuses to work around my medical and disability needs. His subcontractors are more trustworthy than he is . . . at least they come into my home looking respectable. The main contractor comes in wearing torn up jeans, raggy t-shirts, and often answers his phone while he's talking to us! Faith and Rod have built a terrific business and network of tradesmen . . . Talk with Faith and I can guarantee you will not be disappointed with the quality of service that we have come to know and love from HMMH!

I've used them twice for a paint job and a repair. They are great. On the paint job, they painted four rooms for me! They even let me pay half up front and half at completion. Anne was very nice to me and called to check up on me during the work.

I This is a very difficult review to write. This is not a review on the work I have had done with this company, my handyman that I used with the company was excellent. Its the owners that I had a huge problem with. Steve was always great, on time, wonderful work etc. I needed a new floor, got a quote from a flooring company, it was going to take 3 - 4 days which was perfect (I needed it done while we were on vacation) Then I thought of Steve and really wanted to give him the job, had him out for a quote. This was my bad, I had assumed that the job would still be able to be done while we were on vacation. A couple days later one of the owners, Faith called me with the quote and scheduling of the job, since it was just going to be Steve, it was going to take him 2 weeks, which is fine but I just couldn't do it if it was going to take that long, if I had the time I would have had no problem. I told Faith what my quote was with the flooring company, that's when it happened, Faith started yelling at me, this was VERY unprofessional -- "I don't know where you get your numbers from!!!" and "I don't make the hours!!!" she then told her husband (the other owner) what I was told from the flooring company and he screamed "Well let them do it then!!" I was stunned, I was not angry with the price, I really had no idea the timing was going be that different but I was not unhappy, not yelling, not anything, I was dissapointed that I wouldn't be able to give them the job but truly that was it. I was a very loyal customer and I have reviewed this company on Angie's List with wonderful reviews. Faith did email me the next morning and told me that she could get it done in the time I needed it, that Steve really wanted to do the job, but with the way I was spoken to it was too late, I was done. I don't need to spend money with a company that treats their customers in this way. I have never been spoken to or screamed at like that. So unfortuntely I have found another handyman company that I am very happy with, (and they take credit cards!) My floor was done in five days, it is beautiful, and I have a life time warranty, was treated in a very professional manner. I know there will be a response with who knows what, but this is what happened.

our handyman came to investigate a number of problems... he was able to address all of them -- he was quick and resourceful fixing the requests he could, and he fixed a "loose" door latch (door to garage-kitchen kept "popping" open) that we hadn't first identified. What he wasn't comfortable addressing he made a few recommendations of service providers to address and let me know all of this before he started doing ANY of the work. The two things that impressed me most -- aside from being appropriately jovial, pleasant and professional -- 1) reputable -- when he got back from the hardware store and realized that the packaging had been "pilfered" with -- he did NOT charge us for a 2nd trip to the hardware store -- as situation was circumstantial 2) he was quick and thorough in the work that he was able to complete; he was honest about what he was not comfortable fixing/addressing and he pointed out some other issues (insulation) with our home that we were otherwise unaware of!! We will be saving some good $$ because he took the time/attention to say something

It went well. He was professional. He showed up, and on time. He knew what he was doing and kept me informed. He asked me appropriate questions.

The quote was in a 1025 to 1275 range but told ir would probably not run the higher price. I had gotten another quote but did not receive the email quote until I committed to Mr helper. The second quote was for $675.00 less, I was upset that I did not wait. The helper showed up on time, was friendly however the quality of work was average at best. I have shattered glass tiles, crooked tiles, cracking grout. One corner was so bad when he was installing that I told him to redo it. Same with grout job. I have since found out that tile jobs provide 2 coats of grout and sealer. I received one coat of grout and no sealer. I was told when job was completed that I had to pay the higher quote because it took longer. Well it took longer because the job was not done correctly to begin with. My husband has serious health issues so I did not respond to this until now. The handyman took no pride in the finished job And as a result I have been left an unhappy customer.

If you want your remodel project to be done correctly and beautifully or if you have a punch list of handy man work to do, call Handy Men and Mrs. Helper. Their crew is very dedicated to doing jobs the right way. They executed all the items on my list professionally and in a timely manner.

They were marvelous and contacted me right away. She checked in to see if my project would fit the Big Deal but ultimately it didn’t and I was very happy that she notified me of that. She was very proactive and performed research as well.

Handymen and Mrs. Helper were professional and responsive from the very beginning. Faith answered the phone on my first inquiry, Rod came out to give a quote a few days later and they started on the project within a week. Their estimate was in line with others I received. I chose them based on my feeling that they were going to be there all the way to get the project done well and I could always reach them with questions. Plus I felt very comfortable leaving them in the house to work alone. Tom, who did most of the work in the powder room did a very professional job. The tile was lined up perfectly with the wood floor outside the bathroom, all the fixtures were put in well and the house was always left clean. Faith followed up regularly. I would highly recommend Handymen and Mrs. Helper.

The entire process went smoothly, dealing with Faith was a pleasure. Chris, the repairman, called ahead of arrival, asked the right questions, and took care of these two jobs. These were not huge projects, but we are very happy with the results.
