Very pleased with everything. We worked with EJ. and he was very helpful in choosing colors. He was very professional, polite and easy to work with. Work with Anne and she was great in returning calls, making suggestions. Geting back to us. We had to delay things because my husband was in the hospital and she was right there to help us. A great person to work with. Would definitely call on them again. Professional, polite, and easy to work with.

They could not do this in the time frame I wanted therefore I am seeking a refund. They wanted to send out an estimator. The company felt like this would be longer than a day. They said a lot of times they said the job goes longer than a day.

We moved from a large home into townhome with the idea that we would update the first floor and open up the view. It was a process to get the project started as the cabinet ordering and delivery took two months. Once the project got going, it all ran pretty smoothly. Andy coordinated everyone who needed to come out including the carpenter, plumbing, electrical tile, drywall, painting and sub-contracting the granite and hardwood floors. I appreciated the sensitivity to timing of everything and he stopped by often to check on the work. They guys always seemed to be working hard and on time. We had very little downtime and the entire project was completed in a month. Andy was communicative and it seemed that all his guys respected him. It seems that Andy was committed to making sure the project was left to my satisfaction?even making my neighbor happy by power washing her driveway and sending someone back to my house the next day to fix a dead outlet. HMMH may not be the cheapest, but they have quality workers who seem to enjoy their jobs and respect Andy. We are completely satisfied and will use them again in the future.

We had two cut-outs in our ceiling from a previous plumbing problem. I contacted Anne about a 4-hour drywall package deal they were offering. Anne was courteous, professional and knowledgeable, and explained that the service might take longer than 4 hours. She explained all the additional costs (trip charge, extra materials) up front and was easily available via email or phone for any of my follow-up questions. Urmas was our handy man for the project, and he arrived promptly as scheduled. He got right to work preparing the holes for repair. At one point, he needed some scrap wood, which we didn't have. He went to the local Home Depot to get the necessary materials, returned and got back to work. The job took exactly 4 hours and Urmas cleaned up the project area well. We were completely, 100% satisfied with the service and would recommend and use Handy Men and Mrs. Helper again, without reservation.

Anne was very professional she sent out one of her contractors to bid our job his name was EJ. They said they would have a bid for me with in a couple days- it took four days which was fine. However the bid was $2200 versus my other two bids which were $800 and $900 respectively handyman and Mrs helper were just too overpriced.

We were prepared to start Phase 2 of a big project that was going to cost over $10,000 and involved painting and flooring projects. I was VERY impressed with both the painter and flooring guys that came to the house to give us a quote. I can't say enough about Anne's patience in grouping projects together so we could figure out what would be done first. She was always cheerful and helpful. We were ready to get started when we found out that we had to move so I called and cancelled the big project and she didn't make me feel guilty or bad about all the work she had put into the quote. Customer service is a BIG deal and I have zero complaints about how I was treated throughout all of this. I would use them in a heartbeat if I get to move back to the Chicago area.

He was very prompt, corteous, and knowledgeable. He provides suggestions as we are slowly redoing our bathroom. He is very good at setting expectations with the customer. I wasn't sure who I was going to use to finish my bathroom, but going to use Brad again to do our bathroom tiling and floor.

Vendor was responsive to my initial booking inquiry, so I am giving them a Grade A based on the interaction with them that I had. Unfortunately, I'm not in their service area.

The 2 men working this job were great. They worked at my home for 5 full days. They were prompt, polite, and thorough, and cleaned up well after the project was complete. E.J. was very helpful when he did my initial estimate as far as suggestions and money saving tips. E.J. answered all my concerns and questions throughout the project. The work was well done and I am very pleased with everything they did at my home. I will absolutely use them again. E.J. really knew what he was doing overseeing the project and took the time to do it all right.

I did not have them fix anything due to the cost.

HMMH and Steve are the WORLD's greatest! Steve was here for a week and was very dedicated to his work. We had LED strip lighting installed in the basement for some accent lighting. What can I say . . . Steve wasn't happy with the results unless/until I was happy with the results. I've used HMMH for several years and have NEVER had a bad experience. In fact, they sent me a fabulous house cleaner who is now one of closest friends. In my opinion that should speak VOLUMES to the quality of services provided by HMMH and their many tradesmen. If you've happened across HMMH here on Angie's List, there's no need to look elsewhere. You've found the best there is.

This is our second time using Handy Men & Mrs Helper. The first time was a few months ago when Brad came out and took care of all the things our house inspector found before closing that were not addressed. Needless to say, the list was a bit long and varied but Brad was able to take care all of them in under 2 days. Brad = Awesome. This time we had him back to take care of few more things we discovered after a few months of living in the home. Anne is amazing at getting everything booked and following up. I cannot recommend a better handyman that Brad. He not only took care of the stuff we had on our list, but actually took the time to look at our home through an inspector's eyes and pointed out things that we might not have noticed. Super nice. Super fast. I promise they're not paying to write this.

Unsatisfactory. I talked with the owner and the person who did the work originally. I'm standing here and I can see light coming in my front door. My deadbolt wont close anymore. The guy bent the prong in the plate in order to hold the door tighter. Now the deadbolt wont line up and you cant use it. I hired them to do the front door install and fix 2 leaks on the gutter. The guy who did the door install to begin with basically said he didn't want to deal with the gutters because he was done with the work and was not going to work for the company anymore. They were up on the roof later. The roof is now leaking worse than what it was leaking before. Small companies come and go all the time. The person (the owner) seems very nice and diligent. I paid for the work on the front door. The front door is not installed properly. With the leak, they have no responded back or called back over a solution or coming back to do additional work to resolve this.

Handy Men and Mrs. Helper sent Rein for our job. He was very nice, punctual and professional. I felt completely comfortable having him in my home. The damaged section that needed to be redone was done beautifully and you can't even tell there was damage. There were a couple of seams that Rein missed and we had to ask him to come back and finish them, however they were difficult to see in certain light and he may have just not seen them. He came back and finished the seams we asked him to, however he did miss a number of spots when he repainted that area. There was a little bit of leftover paint, so we ended up painting the spots ourselves rather than ask him to come back. When looking for a company to complete this job, I contacted several for quotes. Handy Men and Mrs. Helper were by far the most professional and responsive. They responded to my questions very quickly and were able to get the job done quickly. Their price was very reasonable. When I informed them that a couple of seams were missed, they responded immediately and scheduled a time for him to come back and finish. Although the work wasn't 100% perfect, it was still very good and overall we are satisfied. I'd use them again because they are so professional and reliable.

An excellent experience from start to finish! Drywall repair and painting of our 2-story, 2 bedroom townhome was completed by Rein and Virgo. Both were respectful, on time everyday and hard working. The results were simply outstanding, our place has really never looked better. Urmas and Virgo handled the new patio door install and deck repair/restain. Both were again extremely respectful, on time and provided a high quality, professional fit and finish when completed. Last but certainly not least was Anne, who is an absolute dream to work with. From scheduling the initial estimate, to getting the right people on the job at the right time - Anne was always easy to talk to and communicative every step of the way. An A rating does not do this team justice, an A++ would be more accurate. We look forward to working with them again and again!

Brad and Martin arrived on time and after conferring with me on what needed to be done, made a trip to Menard's to obtain all of the necessary wall anchors, and screws to complete the job. Brad also recommended brass nails be used for the Japanese screen as they would match the ornate brass hooks that were attached to the top of the screen for hanging. Brad also asked that I approve the placing of each item as they were being hung and continually asked for my feedback on the placements. Brad and Martin did an excellent job of improvising the use of a telescoping extension ladder to hang the screen in the stairwell. They cleaned up after themselves as they worked. Did an excellent job as a team and were very personable. Another excellent job by the handy persons from Handymen and Mrs. Helper. I have used the service personnel from Handymen and Mrs. Helper for over 15 years and will continue to do so.

Great. From the scheduling of the estimate, the scheduling of the appointment and the installation all went very well. Several other organizations from Angie's List said they would come and give an estimate and never came. Anne, the woman who set up the estimate and appointment was timely and professional. Urmas, who did the installation, was also professional. Shoes were removed before he entered the house and everything was cleaned before he left. I have no reservations about recommending this agency.

The company was professional over the phone, but the estimate for my project was too high.

We had purchased the wrong bathroom faucet for the job. Brad offered to go to the local Lowe's to get the right one. He went to 2-3 stores to find the correct faucet. We were impressed by his diligence in locating the faucet. He was hired to drill holes for some wiring in the entertainment center and came up with another idea for solving another problem we were having with the layout of the speaker wires for the center.

The project was supposed to begin today. I cleared out the bathroom and scheduled the city to shut off the water. The contractor arrived on time, but was not aware of the details that the project entailed. I showed him the bathroom and explained the tub, surround and fixtures needed to be removed, the sub floor built up, insulation put into the walls if needed, the new tub installed, new surround installed, drywall replaced over the tub and new fixtures. It appeared he did know / was not told what all the project entailed and said he was working alone. I let him know this was making me very nervous and called Handyman & Mrs. Helper and left a voice mail. A half hour later the contractor came back into my house and said Andy would be calling me and that the city should not shut my water off today. I received a call from Andy and I was told that while the company does about fifty (50) bath remodels each year, mine is different because my bathroom was so small, etc. and I stopped the conversation there. I restated that when I received the estimate, the bathroom was measured, we reviewed the items I purchased, how the instructions said to install them, and the extensive work that could be needed. At the time of the estimate, I also said I was nervous hiring another local company because I already had a contractor flake out on me, and I needed this bathroom completed and completed well. At the time of the estimate and when I signed the contract, I was assured it would be no issue and that everything would be taken care of. End result; My bathroom will not be completed by HM&MH, I was told I would receive my $200 deposit back and I wasted a day off work. Unbelievable. I don't understand why someone would assure me a project could and would be done, and then on the day of the project say they didn't "realize" what the project entailed or didn't realize the contractor they scheduled could not perform the work they told me they would do. There are many good reviews on this company so I'm sure they do great work , however I did not receive that great work. Extremely disappointed and tired. On the hunt for a new contractor. Again.

I am very conflicted about this bad review, so I will stick with the facts. I am conflicted because I was so encouraged by excellent reviews and that Anne is such a nice and professional person. So here are the facts: On June 15, I contacted them for two home projects. Anne got right back to me and I was anticipating great things. I was told that they were tied up and wouldn't take a look until one month later. I waited a month and there was no call. One week later, I contacted them and was told by Anne that their guy would be by in two weeks. One of my projects couldn't wait and it went to someone else. But I wanted a wall built in my basement and really wished to engage them for this. Day of estimate, I will quote the conversation so as not to 'interpret' it: Since I needed to budget all the other things in my project, I asked him: "What is your most general ballpark estimate which I won't hold you to? All total, I have a budget of $4000 for the whole project (to include other things other than the wall)" He looked at me a little taken aback and said "the wall should only cost about $1400, (without further clarification)." "We will have an estimate by the end of the afternoon." Days later, after hearing nothing, I called Anne and she discussed the estimate. "Labor will be (I can't specifically recall) ~$2600 and, with materials, it will bring it to (about) $3300. I expressed surprise that his 'ballpark' estimate was so far in another ballpark! She called her guy to confirm my claim, and I was told "He meant (but did not say) that price was just for the labor" (even though, if true, the quoted labor cost was $1200 more than the time of the visit). AND it will take another month before we could get to it. Based on my dismay, she adjusted the estimate to $2530. I called another Angie's List provider whom we'd used in the past and loved their work. He came over the next day and, with identical work on the quote, he told me it would be $750 and he would do it in two days next week! The initial quote that Anne gave me was 4 1/2 times more and with yet more waiting!! I can't say enough good things about Anne, who was a pleasure to speak with. Maybe they're too busy. Maybe I shouldn't have thrown out the $4000 figure. I was so encouraged by their good reviews and was so disappointed in the results. I don't care for not getting called when promised, being delayed by months, and I certainly found the pricing issues a deal-breaker. I will not use them again.

Painter was punctual (early actually) and called when he was on his way. Professional. Completed the job in a reasonable amount of time - about 90 minutes. Work was done for my downstairs neighbor and she approved the work. Final cost was within the estimate. 30% less than other estimates. No surprises which is always a good thing. I would use again and wouldn't hesitate to recommend to others.

It went fine. The guy was really nice. The hose was kinked when they were done, but they promptly came back and fixed it.

I initially posted a negative review indicating the lack of response from the provider for getting back to me in regards to setting up a time for the estimate to take place. This was a misunderstanding/communications glitch on both our parts. Since that point the provider has been out to look for the jobs and provided a quote within a very reasonable amount of time. The providers staff has been very easy and professional to work with thus far.
