Geraci came & provided an estimate. There were items not on the original estimate that were added appropriately. The were professional, neat and quiet. They cleaned up after themselves. The work was outstanding. I believe another contractor may not have been as meticulous about the preparation. They were careful not to splatter paint on bushes, decking and roof.
Description of Work: Excellent exterior painting of our home.

Member Comments: We had used Geraci once before, but we never will again. Based on our experience, Dominick Geraci (Geraci Painting & Decorating) is unreliable and dishonest. We no longer trust him and we advise everyone else not to do business with him or you could be his next victim. He talks a lot about how important it is ?to give outstanding quality and service?, but when called upon to honor his boast he failed miserably. In his statement, Geraci said ?during the walk (around the exterior of the home) the homeowner told me that they were getting some water in their basement from the same side of the house that the hose bib is on.? Our landscaper had placed too much mulch around the house. It was over the top of the foundation wall in some places and that had allowed a small amount of water to seep into an unfinished part of the basement a couple of times after heavy rains, but not in the finished portion of the basement. After the mulch was moved away from the house we have not had any seepage, in any part of the basement, even after heavy downpours. Geraci also said in his statement, upon completion of the job, we were standing together in front of the hose bib. That is not true. Geraci was the only one behind the bushes near the bib, touching up a spot his assistant had missed. He just didn?t notice the water leaking from the bib. Geraci states, ?After I completed the touch-ups, I turned on the hose to clean my hands and then turned it back off. I am 100% sure I turned off the water.? Yes, he did turn off the water with the shut-off at the end of the hose, but he did not turn off the water at the hose bib and that was the problem. He says, ?There were several days between when I left and they discovered their spraying water.? Wrong again. He left on Friday and the plumber found the bib leaking and spraying water the next day, Saturday. He says, ?This is an accessible area where almost anyone could have turned on their hose.? He?s really reaching on this one. The bib is hidden behind bushes and can?t be seen from the street. The hose is also kept next to the bushes and can?t be seen from the street. We have never had anyone monkey with the water hose in over 15 years. Geraci claims, ?as much as the homeowner wants this to be the fault of our company, it simply is not.? Geraci's insurance company, State Farm, sent an investigator to our home and concluded that our property had been damaged by Geraci's actions and offered us $500 to settle our claim against Geraci. We are not satisfied with the offer because Geraci himself admitted it would cost over $1,000 to repair the damages. The rest of his statement is a well-rehearsed, self-promoting commercial which his actions completely belie. He finishes his statement by saying, ?As far as the plastic connector; it was extremely deteriorated and obviously very old and I immediately told the member that it had broken. She said not to worry about it. However, we will be happy to replace the plastic connector. 1) The bib attachment or ?plastic connector? was not ?extremely deteriorated and obviously very old.? (See photo #6) The only problem with it is, he broke it. 2) He did not tell us he broke it. He hid the broken pieces under the bushes. 3) Geraci?s claim that he would ?be happy to replace? it, was not directed to us. It is a self-serving attempt to make himself sound reasonable to other Angie?s List readers. And he sure knows how to talk a good game. Too bad that?s all he is; a lot of talk and promises that he never keeps. He never did replace the connector. Geraci also burned out 5 sections of our front lawn when he left the shutters lying in the grass for a full day in the hot sun. He also stained our grill cover and deck railing with the power wash solution. And Geraci has made no attempt to deny he said he could stop by to see what he could do to help us if we got our 94-year-old neighbor lady to accept his proposal to paint her house! And don?t be fooled by Geraci?s boast that his business is rated A+ by the Better Business Bureau. As we found out, the BBB has a major weakness when it comes to their ratings. Whenever someone files a complaint with the BBB against one of their member businesses, and that business notifies the BBB that they have turned the matter over to their insurance company, the BBB closes the complaint and labels it AJR ? Administratively Judged Resolved (it does not matter whether the complaint has actually been resolved or not). That way the member business gets to keep their initial A+ rating no matter how many complaints may be filed against them, if all of the complaints get labeled AJR. Based on the way he has shirked his responsibilities and the way he has treated us, Geraci has lost not only our business and our neighbor?s business, but the business of our friends, including one who had received one of his proposals and was about to contract with him. Our advice, do NOT do business with Dominick Geraci or Geraci Painting and Decorating.
Description of Work: Dominick Geraci and his assistant arrived on Tuesday, June 28, 2011 to power wash and paint my home. They broke a hose bib attachment (photo #6) when they connected their equipment to do the power wash. They didn’t tell me they broke it. I found the broken pieces discarded under the bushes several days later. When they finished the power wash, they reattached my garden hose to the bib, but they put it on so loosely water was leaking from the bib down the side of the house for 5 straight days. They had shut off the flow of water at the end of the hose but they did not turn off the water at the bib. My sump pump was running night and day for the next several days even though we had not had any rain in over a week. Geraci finished the job on Friday, July 1st. The next day, I discovered the carpet in my downstairs bedroom and closet was completely soaked. My out-of-state relatives were on their way to spend the next two days with me and they were going to use that bedroom. Not knowing where the water was coming from, I called a plumber. The plumber arrived at 4:30 PM. After making sure all of the water faucets, wash machine, etc. had been shut off, the plumber saw the water meter was still running. He pointed out to my husband that a water pipe that went behind the bedroom wall has a shut off valve to an outside bib. The plumber asked when was the last time we had used that bib? My husband told him it had been a couple of weeks since either he or I had used it, but the painters had used it earlier that week. The plumber and my husband went outside to check the bib and found water leaking and spraying from the bib because the hose had been attached so loosely. After turning off the water at the bib, they returned to the basement to check the water meter. It was now stopped. The plumber said with water running down the side of the house like that for 5 straight days, the water was going over the foundation wall and into bedroom. (See the plumber’s report – photo #5) I immediately called Geraci and left a voicemail message telling him about the flooding and that the plumber said he had caused it. Geraci did not call back for 2 days. My husband had to pull up the carpet, cut out and drag the sopping wet pad up the stairs and out to the patio and laid it over some chairs to dry. (See photos #1-4) After mopping up the water in the bedroom, my husband installed a dehumidifier and two fans. It took until Monday, July 4th, for the carpet to dry. My relatives had to stay at another relative's home. Geraci called on the 4th to say how sorry he was and that he would take care of the problem and "do the right thing." He came over on the 5th and said he was going to do whatever is necessary, but he was already becoming evasive about what he was going to do. Allen Environmental of Fox River Grove, IL inspected the damage and tested the bedroom for mold. Pro-Lab of Weston, FL evaluated the test confirmed the presence of mold. When Geraci returned to our home on Thursday, the 21st, my husband gave him copies of the mold test results and the plumber’s report. Geraci said it was an accident and it would probably cost at least $1,000 to pay for the damages. He said he needed to figure out what he was going to do and he would call back by Monday. Geraci called Saturday and told me he didn’t believe he caused the damages so he's not going to do anything. But he also told me that if we convinced our 94-year-old neighbor to accept his proposal to paint her home he might be able to stop by and see if he could help us.

When I began this job I walked around the exterior of the home with the homeowner to make sure we were both on the same page as to what the job entailed. We have done work for these clients before and they were very happy with our service. During the walk the homeowner told me that they were getting some water in their basement from the same side of the house that the hose bib is on. Upon completion of the job I again walked around the exterior of the house with the homeowner and stood in front of the hose bib. We were there together for approximately 10 minutes talking as I touched-up a spot on the siding. There was no water spraying, which would have been completely apparent as we were right in front of the hose bib. After I completed the touch-ups, I turned on the hose to clean my hands and then turned it back off. I am 100% sure I turned off the water. There were several days between when I left and they discovered their spraying water. This is an accessible area where almost anyone could have turned on their hose. Unfortunately, as much as the homeowner wants this to be the fault of our company, it simply is not. We are truly concerned about our client’s happiness and feel deeply disheartened that these homeowners feel that this unfortunate incident has been caused by our company. However, we are unable to take responsibility for something we did not cause. We truly care about our clients and strive to give outstanding service and quality. To ensure that we are doing the right thing, we always go through the job before we begin and upon completion to make sure that everything has exceeded our client’s expectations. This quality check is part of the reason why we’ve been in business for 13 years. As far as the plastic connector; it was extremely deteriorated and obviously very old and I immediately told the member that it had broken. She said not to worry about it. However, we will be happy to replace the plastic connector.

He did great work. He took the time to go through colors and help select colors for the two rooms. The paint has held up great. It has not faded at all. They took off their shoes while in the home. They cleaned up extremely well. He is extremely attentive and listens well. They just did a great job.
Description of Work: They painted two rooms for me.

Our daughter had Domenick paint the interior of her home and we were so impressed with his imaginative use of colors and style that we hired him to paint our home. We wanted our house to have color and a certain wow factor but were unsure of how to pull it off. We had certain colors in mind and gave him our ideas as to what we would like to do. He then put his own style on to our ideas and we were in agreement from the first time we saw his sample boards. Everyone who walks into our home for the first time automatically says wow.
