+ -1 moreBecause our roof was 30+ years old I was afraid we would have trouble with it over the winter so I asked Mr. Swistun to stop by and check it over. He spent over an hour on the roof nailing back loose shingles, sealing the flashings, etc. It was well he did so because the winter of 2013-2014 was a very severe one. There was more than a foot of snow on the roof until almost the end of March. However, we had no problems although many of our neighbors did. UPDATE: The gutters which Swintum, Inc. installed in 2009 are still working very well. This spring when the foot of snow on the roof melted they caught almost all the melt water so there were very few icicles and nothing dripped into the house.
Description of Work: Inspected the roof and made repairs to make it watertight.

They got an estimate to me quickly and once the deposit had been sent in, they scheduled the work. They always do a great job and clean up after themselves. You'd never know anyone had been working there. I have no problem recommending them.
Description of Work: Tuck pointed two chimneys, replaced a 4" lead stack and replaced shingles around it. And repaired one gutter.

+ -1 moreThe whole job was completed in one day. They were done by 2:00 pm. There was no disruption of our normal household tasks. They requires an electrical connection for the air compressor, but that was the extent of any disruption of our daily routine. They cleaned up after themselves, and left no debris on the property. Chris Ryba inspected the job sometime mid morning, and the roofers completed the task without incident.
Description of Work: There were a couple of leaks in the roof that had caused discoloration on the kitcken ceiling and walls, and buckling of the ceiling in the livingroom. Chris Ryba, the project manager, inspected the roof and explained that the seal around some of the vents had deterioated. They would have to remove the shingles off an 11' x 18' area, replace several vents and stacks, install a new the power vent and provide good sealing around the stacks and vents. They also created 12 new sofit vents. When siding was installled on the house 20+ years ago, they installed grills in the sofit siding, but did not ensure that there was an opening behind the grill. Swistun cut the necessary holes behind the vents, and reinstalled the aliminium grills over them.

+ -1 moreThis being a very expense job, I did a lot of researching of the 6 contractors that I got all from Angies List. 4 of them were fairly easy to dismiss. Casey's prices, (when comparing apples to apples) were fair and I just got a good sense from talking to him that he know what he was doing and that I would get a good job. And I was right! I highly recommend Swistun.
Description of Work: a complete tear off and new installation of my flat roof.

+ -1 moreI called Swistun to look at my gutters. I was pretty sure all I needed was to have the front and back gutters taken down and re-pitched and the gutter hangers tightened elsewhere. The office scheduled an appointment and Chris came out to evaluate the gutters. He looked at all the gutters even tho I was only concerned with 2. It was his opinion that it would probably be cheaper to get new gutters than do the repair work. He e-mailed me the estimate the next day. He did give a price for repairs and another option for replacing all the gutter. Unfortunately, the prices were much higher than other contractors so we did not use Swistun.

He is extremely knowledgeable and explains in terms I can understand what needs to be done and why. The crews that he sends out are courteous and very good. The crew came at 7AM and were done by 10AM. When I went outside to check the work, they had already cleaned up and were on their way to their next job. The work was flawless.
Description of Work: Damage done by neighbor's falling tree to gutters, soffit and fascia and garage roof. 3 gutters needed replacing; a section of the soffit and fascia needed to be replaced; shingles needed to be replaced on the garage roof.

+ -1 moreThe work was great. They always come and talk through the project, recommending things that I wouldn't have know to think of, and then finish the work promptly with great clean up. Our gutters work so much better and they even searched out the wood we needed because it wasn't the normal stuff they work with.
Description of Work: They have worked for us twice. They replaced all our gutters in 2008 and then replaced our rotten house boards this year.

+ -1 moreChris Ryba from Swistun is by far one of the nicest, most professional home improvement professionals I've ever worked with! Not only did he honor the initial estimate I got from Swistun almost two years ago (WOW!), but he was able to get us on the work schedule less than a week after we signed the contract and mailed the downpayment for our gutter project. He and his crew are punctual, polite, friendly, clean up after themselves and do top-notch, professional work. Of all four estimates I got for this gutter replacement, Chris was the only one who recommended installing an additional downspout in the center of the west side of our house to help alleviate a basement flooding problem, and his estimate was hands-down the most detailed. Was Swistun the cheapest estimate we got? No, but I wholeheartedly believe you get what you pay for, and with Swistun you get outstanding service and an outstanding finished product! I can't recommend this company highly enough! PS - haven't had a drop of water in the basement since the gutters were replaced - woohoo!

+ -1 moreI had a very positive experience with Swistun. From the first encounter, they seemed to be the right fit for the job. They were the best of the three contractors I interviewed for the project by far. I was really impressed by their policy to give the customer a check for 10% of the contract price to hold until the job is finished. Also, the customer gets to keep the check if the job isn't done correctly on the first attempt. They are the best contractor I have ever used.
Description of Work: Swistun installed gutters and downspouts at my home. They removed a tree branch that was hanging over my roof, and covered some potential trouble spots on my roof with tar.

However, the person from Swistun spent two hours looking at the house and he gave a complete description of what exactly the problem was. We thought that it was a gutter problem and it turned out to be something else. The others did not even talk about this. He fixed the entire problem.
Description of Work: We used them for roofing solutions. A porch was converted into an edition. We noticed that there was water damage there at the upper part of the chimney and the surroundings. Water was pouring around the foundation. So they repaired it.

+ -1 moreFrom start to finish, every detail of the project was adhered to with careful attention.
Description of Work: Casey returned my first call promptly. I had several leaks in my old roof, so Casey got his ladder and did an impressive inspection for over 2 hrs, during which time he got on the roof, got off the roof, etc....over & over, walking gingerly on my very old and brittle clay tiles. I've had at least 5 other roofers come to give me an estimate and none of them spent more than 15-20 minutes looking around. Casey felt that I might benefit from a patch in an area that he suspected might be responsible for my problem. I agreed and he charged me a mere $250 to apply that patch, which took up at least 2 1/2 more hours of his time. The patch, however, didnt do the job and so we negotiated over materials, cost, timing, etc. for a complete tearoff and new installation of an asphalt tile roof. The job went quite well and Casey was at the site every day that the work was in progress, His crew did a very thorough cleanup after the job was completed. I would recommend Casey to anyone who has a roofing problem. I found him to be dependable, honest and professional in every aspect of the project. I would definitely use Swistun again for any roof problems.

+ -1 moreFrom the first estimate to the final inspection, everything was conducted with complete professionalism. Chris carefully outlined each of our options with the complete cost. He kept in contact to make sure that we had answers to any questions we might have. His crew was punctual and left everything in perfect order. When the job was completed, Chris checked back several times to make sure everything was working the way we had hoped. Fortunately we had quite a bit of rain and snow right after the installation, so it was easy to see how much better the new direction of the water flow was working.
Description of Work: Removed all the existing gutters and downspouts and installed new 5" aluminum seamless gutters with flashing and hangers every 24 inches, 6 oversize downspouts and oversize downspout extensions where necessary. Corrected pitch of gutters to re-route amount of water flow. Installed 2 new PVC flexible downspout extensions where necessary.

+ -1 moreFrom the very beginning, I was impressed with Swistun, my Home Improvement Specialist Chris Ryba, and each and every one of the men who performed the work on my house. Swistun was prompt and professional. After signing the proposal, they cut me a check for $500 to keep if I wasn't completely satisfied with their work! They provided a certificate of liability insurance at the outset, followed by a formal waiver of lien at the conclusion. Chris proactively communicated with me, spent as much time as needed explaining what they had found and how they were addressing issues, was responsive, and very accommodating as I asked to add some side windows to the project. The men who worked at my house were timely, polite, respectful of my house, committed to quality workmanship, and just so easy to have around. I trusted them completely, and was not the least bit concerned about leaving the house while they were here. I was truly impressed with every aspect of my interaction with Swistun, and will most certainly use them again.
Description of Work: My house had been re-sided after a hail storm in 2001 and, as I later discovered during any hard rain, the workmanship had been shoddy. I called a number of siding and window firms on Angie's List, and no one would even come to my home to inspect it and provide an estimate, saying they would only take on big jobs and not smaller repair jobs. And then, thank goodness, I called Swistun. They were responsive and prompt, and almost immediately I had an appointment with Chris Ryba to look at the known problem areas on the back of my house. During Chris's initial visit, he assessed the source of the problem (improper or no flashing around the chimney, windows and doors) and we discussed the most cost-effective way to address these issues. During that same visit, I asked if this would also be the best time to replace the windows and doors on the back of my house. They were 16 years old, not of top quality when installed by the builder, and no longer performing particularly well. Chris said this would be the best time to replace windows -- while the back of my house was essentially down to its frame -- from both a cost and workmanship standpoint. He prepared a detailed proposal with different window options, and brought window samples for me to inspect prior to making a decision. They began by replacing the chimney cap and surrounding roof tiles, just to ensure that no water could channel down the inside of the chimney siding. The work commenced only after all of the materials (windows and siding) had been delivered to my house. They began with installation of the new windows (10 in total) and sliding glass doors (3 in total), and then replaced all damaged and rotted wood, added insulation, properly applied Tyvek wrap, and installed the new siding. They worked as quickly as possible, given it was a bitterly-cold January, putting in very long days when the weather warmed up a bit, and working fewer hours (but still working) during the coldest of days, until the project was completed.

+ -1 moreWe called a few companies but they said they don t do this kind of job. Then Chris from Swistun came, he inspected it, and said that we needed more insulation. He also said that the vents on the roof were wrong, which they were, and one was just poking out into the attic, and it needed to be vented. I felt that I was dealing with a home inspector. He was very good. They came and did the soffits, and replaced the vents. They sent a person over to check if the insulation had been put in so that they could move to the next part of their work. They checked everything up. The condensation was leaking, and it was cold in the attic even with the insulation. I figured out that it was the condensation that was the problem. I called Chris, and he sent his people back. He insulated the duct that went to the attic and out through the vent. He didn t charge for this or for the other little odd jobs that he did. They just went over and beyond what they had to do. Moreover, they did the job in the cold weather. I haven t had a leak since. I have a couple of other projects to do, and I will definitely use him.
Description of Work: I have a vent on my range top, and there was water leaking under the range top from the vent. I got Swistun to fix that. We also got them to do the soffits.

+ -1 moreSwistun does what they say they will do. With many contractors, you are lucky if they show up or if they do that you get the quote. These guys were always on time. I appreciated the consultative advice and details in the quotes. I knew when I got the quote that I would not be surprised by additional fees in the end. They won't try to sell you more than you need or perform work that they don't do. These by far are the best contractors I have ever had--true professionals. Chris even came by a week later to check on the roof. He also said he would be back in the spring to see how the gutters perform with the rain....there is no doubt he will be here to confirm the job was done well. Thanks for making the process so easy.
