I called and provided my information. I was told they would review my information and call me back. I received a call the next day and they said I would have to pay a $500 "estimate scheduling fee" to get an estimate. It is non-refundable unless I hired them. Shady. I cant believe people would hire this guy.

Casey dedication and attention to details resulted in delivering an excellent job. Ahead of the start of the job, Casey discussed with us all details and option; when the job started, he directly managed every crew specialized in the different tasks: roof, chimney, flat roof, skylight keeping me informed of the progress at every step. I gave an A to all, including price, because at the end of the day you get what you pay for and Casey gave the best I could have ever expected: he treated my house as he would do with his own house, putting all his knowledge, expertise and passion in the job. Thank you Casey I really appreciate and I will definitely recommend you to friends and contact you in the future for any similar job. Becca has been great managing scheduling and communication!

The whole project went exceptionally well. Casey, the Swistun company owner, spent a great deal of time with us before the project began, explaining what they would be doing, why this would help our roof issues and the basics of roof construction. His office assistant, Becca, was very prompt in sending information to us, responding to phone calls, etc. The crew showed up exactly when anticipated and worked long hours to get our roof done before inclement weather arrived. They were very courteous and professional. Casey was here to oversee the work. He is very particular and we certainly appreciated that. The work began and ended as Casey said it would with no surprises. The crew did a good job of cleaning up afterwards. Casey then had another worker come to do the finishing touches, replace siding, soffits, etc. He, too, was very expert in his work. We felt that Casey was very knowledgeable about all kinds of roofs and were impressed with his professionalism, his dedication and the way he educated and explained things to us. We highly recommend Swistun, Inc. and encourage people to take advantage of this wonderful company for their roofing issues.
Description of Work: They removed and disposed of all existing roofing material. Temporarily removed siding at its connection with roofing so ice barrier could be installed behind it and so new flashing could be properly installed. Removed and replaced all roof plywood and replaced with 5/8" thick plywood. They installed rafter baffles as needed, installed Airvent ShingleVent II ridge vents over all ridges and installed two specifically designed roofing bathroom vents and connected them in the attic to the actual vents. They replaced all stack vent flashing with new lead flashing, installed GAF WeatherWatch ice barrier, installed new aluminum chimney flashing, installed GAF Shingle Mate felt over all remaining roof surfaces, installed GAF Timberline HD shingles and GAF Timbertex for all hips and ridges. They also installed a waterproof wall above the front door, installed siding and gutter guards and removed all front living area soffit, cut continuous ventilation holes and installed vented soffit panels. 2 new Solatube 290 DS were installed.

We contacted Swistun to come out for an inspection and quote of a new roof. They were responsive and polite, and took the time to understand what we were looking to do. We didn't move forward with them because they were so booked and couldn't complete the work until Spring 2016 (certain work cannot be done over the winter). Though we would have liked to move forward with them for an opportunity for the quote and such, we couldn't wait that long. I'm sure they do great work which is why they are booked so far out. I appreciated the professionalism, none the less.

I was highly satisfied with Swistun's work. The only negative was the price, which was considerable. However, the much less expensive roofing work my husband and I had contracted for about 9 years earlier obviously contributed to the water damage problems that ensued (note: the costs of that earlier re-roof cannot really be compared to Swistun's much more comprehensive job, as that earlier work did not entail tear-off of old insulation, any repairs to the roof deck or any gutter work). . . . .Thus the realization that "budget roofers" do not necessarily save money in the long run, since the consequences of poor workmanship must eventually "cost" the homeowner. Casey Swistun is most amiable, as well as knowledgeable. He definitely takes his job seriously and brings all his considerable skills/energy to bear on each project he accepts. While other contractors disdain homeowners' questions, Casey seems to enjoy explaining his recommendations and welcomes inquiries which allow him to enthusiastically go into all the nitty gritty. He also is unusual in the amount of detail he was willing to include in his contract - a good thing. Casey, unlike many contractors, actually created and processed the change orders called for in the contract. Upon completion/payment, he provided lien waivers. As promised, he furnished paperwork for all the included manufacturer warrantees (roof, gutters, skylight). Though only time will tell if the roof installed by Swistun will hold up - so far, so good. The workmanship certainly appears superior; I am assuming it will prove long-lasting. In short, I would definitely recommend Swistun, Inc. for roofing work, especially if the job in question requires any complicated engineering or problem-solving.
Description of Work: Swistun performed a complete tear-off of my 1950's-era low-slope house roof and connected carport roof, down to the wood roof deck, then applied new GAF brand TPO-membrane roofs to both - meeting state/city code, using top materials and employing engineering know-how. The project entailed quite a bit of carpentry work - especially in regard to the carport, which had extensive damage to the wood deck underlying the old bitumen roofing materials. Once the old roof was torn off the house itself, exposing the wood tongue & groove-composed roof deck, a large amount of damage was discovered in that area as well. A carpenter subcontractor dealt with the rebuilding of the carport roof, while the roofing subcontractor handled the carpentry required in repair of the bi-level house roof deck. Note that the work was quite complicated in that the roof deck doubled as the cathedral ceiling of the house, made up of long tongue and groove planks attached to supporting beams. Both crews seem to have done a good job in that carpentry repair/reconstruction work. The subcontracted roofers followed the specifications closely while doing those deck repairs and during the installation of the other roof components (Swistun, Inc. acts as a general contractor, hiring subcontractorsto do the work while Casey Swistun himself creates the plan; orders the materials and arranges any special services; closely monitors the work while in progress). Thick ISO foam insulation conforming to the now-current "R-Value" requirement was part of the roof system used. A separate subcontractor installed new gutters and downspouts (the old ones hadbeen removed early in the project). A skylight was also replaced during the project. Casey Swistun, principal of his company, exhibited patience and diligence in composing a careful plan for the roof's reconstruction. He readily answered the homeowner's questions and addressed all voiced concerns. He even accompanied the owner to discuss various structural engineering issues with the Highland Park Building Dept. staff, to insure that the work would be done properly. All required permits were obtained before the work began. Further, he closely supervised the work of his subcontracted crew, working with the foreman (and the owner) to devise solutions to any unanticipated problems which emerged during the job.

I am not one for reviews; however, in this case, I feel compelled to do so because our experience with Swistun was extraordinary. We have a complex roof that needed to be replaced. I interviewed five roofing companies: four of which are the largest and most established in the Chicagoland area, and Casey Swistun. Casey was highly referred by my business partner who found him on Angie's list. I met with all of the contractors several times. The differences soon became evident. Casey was the only one that actually got ONTO my roof. He was also the only contractor who came back to spend 30 minutes in my attic and hours at my table explaining the complexity of the job. I received proposals from each company; four were generic; and one was very specific and detailed--that of Casey. At that point, there was no question that Casey was the person I wanted to do the job. Initially, I had some anxiety because he was not one of the larger companies, but that but quickly dissipated once the work began. Casey was above and beyond what I could have imagined. He brought four different crews to my home, each with a particular expertise. He was at my house supervising and working with each crew to ensure that things were done to his specifications, which actually exceeded industry standards. He knows every aspect of the trade. He is an engineer, with a very high intellect, a long history of excellence and tremendous experience. He is honest, humble and unbelievably reliable. He updated me daily on the progress of the roof, including issues that he was dealing with and the plan for the next day. The work was impeccable, due to him. For example, when the wrong caps for the top of the roofline were delivered, Casey stopped the entire job until he tracked down the ones that were of higher quality. Had it not been for Casey and his crew, we would have never known that the cheaper, inferior ones had inadvertently been delivered for installation. When in comes to trades and craftsmanship--in the sea of mediocrity--Swistun shines brightly because they do things the way they should be done the first time, the right way. I cannot say enough about Casey Swistun. He is a one of kind person and contractor. I would recommend him to anyone without reservation. I could not be happier with the quality of the work and the experience.

My apologies for the confusion. My message might not be clear enough: "Based on our current workload and projected availability, we will be unable to complete your kind of project before the end of this year. If you are still interested in pursuing an estimate at this time, the price for the estimate is $500, which will be applied toward the total cost of the project, if agreed upon within 12 months." I personally supervise my projects very closely, and as such, have limited allotted time for performing estimates of incoming requests. These specifics are also clarified on the company website. Casey was able to fix our leak. We have gone through several rain storms in the past several weeks and are leak free which is a big relief. Casey was very professional and Becca, who runs the office was great to work with. Both Casey and Becca were very good about promptly returning phone calls and emails I would strongly recommend Swistun to anyone who has a stubborn leak and wants it properly fixed.
Description of Work: Swustun was referred to us by my daughter's in-laws as they had a leak that no one else was able to fix. Swistun is known for being able to fix suborn leaks. We had a leak in the window in our living room which several professionals, window installers and my roofer, could not determine the cause. Kazimierz (Casey) Swistun came out and spent about 2 hours analyzing and determining our problem.

READ their description! There is a comment buried that says " may carry an up-front charge" (Didn't see this until the contact person (Becca) pointed it out) Long and short - They want a $300 (NON-refundable) payment to even give an estimate. So - either you accept what ever price they state or you loos $300 for the privilege of letting them give you an estimate. (I will not do business with companies that do business in this manner)

Mr. Swistun and his crew were very professional, prompt and efficient. They showed up on time, and while doing their job, found that many of my downspouts were clogged, even after I had paid another firm for gutter and downspout cleaning. The Swistun crew cleared them and by doing so stopped me from getting ice damage in my house. Mr. Switun himself came and cleared 5 ft. tubes of debris from several downspouts, at his own expense to help me. The patio ceiling in my house had become a nesting place for too many squirrelsl, and needed to come down . The workmen were excellent in taking down the ceiling without any of the smelly debris touching the rest of the patio. The whole experience was a good one and my only regret is that I didn't post the review sooner.

My first contact was with Claudia, the office manager. She was pleasant on the phone and knowledgeable about what her company offers. She put me in touch with Dane. He came to our house and discussed what we wanted to do to improve attic ventilation. He assessed the situation and then sent us an easy to read and understand contract. He and his crew were very professional and all went well. I must add they did a great job cleaning up.
Description of Work: Swistun, under the site direction of Dane, cut holes in our second floor roof to install aluminum soffit vents. After cutting the holes, they installed rafter baffles and then the vents. The crew cut 2 holes in the roof to hook up the bathroom fans so they vented outside rather than into the attic. They also installed 2 mushroom vents to our addition roof on the back of the house.

I decided to go with Swistun company because they were recommended to me and they seemed to be well knowledgeable about variety of systems in house construction. I was so glad I had them take care of my house! I was aware that my project did require somebody more than familiar with structure engineering and as well with roofing, siding and gutters. Casey was helpful and very committed to meeting all my expectations even though it took him months to finally take care of my project, but it was worth to wait for. I could tell that no matter what job he was doing he was very precise and going for best results possible. I felt I could trust his expertise and I knew I was getting most honest and solid service because he was explaining all his work every step of the way. I also know he saved me a lot of money in a long run because of how strategic his work was and attentive to detail. Thank you Casey :)

I have seen similar reviews to this for Casey Swistun and I totally agree. He knows what he is doing but he is expensive and he does not care about how he treats former customers; customers who just might be the reason he has been able to build up the business he has today. I called him last June and described to the woman that answered the phone that he previously did work for me and I have leaky gutters that need repair. After a few days she called back and said that due to an increase in jobs and losing workers he was booked through October and suggested I get on a waiting list and/or call someone else. I was very disappointed because although I felt he was expensive, I felt he knew his job well. After the winter weather cleared somewhat and I felt he may have remedied his worker situation I called back in February or March 2015. I now not only had leaky gutters but water was seeping down the wall in my bedroom where the worst spot of the faulty gutter is. Again, the office person called back and said he just had someone quit on him (oh my, not again!) and would put me on a waiting list but couldn't guarantee anything. When I voiced my disappointment and explained that he did previous work for me, which I gave a good Angie's List review that this is the second time I was told he was too busy. (btw - he was very annoying about practically begging me to go on Angie's List to rate his work - never asked me to be untruthful but really hounded me to write a review). She said she would talk to him. She called back and gave me two options: #1 get put on a waiting list with no guarantee that they would ever get to me or #2 give them $500 to get on a waiting list ad be guaranteed that they will get to my job but it could be months. The $500 would go toward the job itself. SERIOUSLY???? REALLY??? What idiot would choose #2 and pay $500 to get on a waiting list to be guaranteed he would come out, but it may be months. They must be kidding or think I'm some kind of idiot. I believe my job, as I described it, just wasn't big enough for them to consider. Great way to treat prior customers that may have played a part in getting you the customers you have today. Don't call him unless you have a huge job that will bring in lots of money for him. And Casey, why not just be honest and tell people that their job will not bring in enough money for you instead of putting them on a waiting list (especially for $500 holding fee!!!)
Description of Work: Provider originally removed a faulty exhaust fan that had dripping water through the fan/light fixture in my only bathroom. He found that the copper flashing used at the roof was not correct for the job. So he installed a new one. I found it to be expensive for the amount of time it took but the new one has never leaked. This current review is concerning how he has treated his previous customer.

I deeply apologize for being unable to preferentially serve my previous customers, especially since I clearly acknowledge their contribution to my success. Over the years my business has restructured itself to use our unique expertise to specifically address the most complex and persistent problems in the roofing and exterior industry (regardless of price). Ironically in order to maintain our high standard and close scrutiny of each project, we found we actually had to reduce our manpower, which directly affects our availability, especially in the setting of growing clientele. We recognize this as a problem, since long customer wait times are the direct result. We are trying to address this, but we are simply unwilling to expand our business at the cost of quality. The mentioned $500 was misunderstood. Kazimierz (Casey) Swistun

The crew was sent out the same day I called for service, even though I did not specifically request emergency service and I was charged only the regular fee (no surcharge). The 2 men worked steadily and efficiently. Though it took longer than anticipated (being charged per time spent!), the amount of snow that needed to be removed justified the hour and 15 minute completion time. Looking at the big picture, the somewhat pricey fee for these services was probably worth it, as possible damage to my roof from ice melting snow might have exceeded that cost.
