Matrix Basement Finishing

We are very pleased with the quality of work that Matrix did in our basement. Our Field Manager, Ben, was great to work with, very responsive to all of our questions and concerns. Rudy and Armando did fantastic work throughout the entire project and were great at communicating and collaborating with us.

The entire project was completed very quickly and on time. Sub contractors showed up when expected and build passed all inspections the first time.

My time with matrix was awful. The two managers, Kirk and Kyle, were untruthful, mean and all around blame-shifters. They couldn’t fulfill their promises, so they decided to lie and blame their progress on us. They made countless mistakes with the project. Never use Matrix for any projects.

Matrix did a very good job with our basement renovation! We are very happy with the result! They were always upfront about everything and were always willing to answer our questions.

From the sales meeting to the final inspection day, everything went smooth. The matrix team was great to work with and all of the subcontractors they used were professional, kind and responsive. Great experience and our basement looks amazing. Special shout out to Steve, Pete, Jacob, Jackie and Ben on the matrix team!

Overall, the experience with Matrix was great. Special shout out to Oscar and his partner as they did fantastic carpentry work, Bobby and his partner were great with electrical & Jorge and his team were phenomenal with all the drywall. A few hiccups along the way as a potential code issue wasn’t identified nearly as early as it should have been, however, Jackie and Ben were able to put our mind at ease if anything arose from inspections. Ben and Jackie were great with communication throughout the process, never going more than 24 hours without a response. A carpet installation up charge was disappointing as it wasn’t known about ahead of time and didn’t appreciate the carpet installation owner insulting me after having just met me 10 minutes prior, but I can’t fault Matrix for that. It’s worth noting though that the carpet installation crew themselves were great - would certainly recommend Matrix to others but with any company improvements in certain areas are needed.

Our home was purchased as new construction and completing the unfinished basement seemed overwhelming. After a neighbor had a great experience with Matrix, we explored working with them, took the plunge and are grateful that we did. Matrix provided us with a “One-Stop-Shop” for a very complicated project. Their in-house design team started with our ideas and then came back with recommendations that improved the outcome. The project management team kept all of the trade teams moving like an orchestra conductor, kept us informed throughout the project and effectively dealt with the inevitable “curve-balls” that arose. Bottom-line, I would work with Matrix again and will recommend them to family and friends.

Great company to work with. Their contractors are professional, helpful, polite and competent. The matrix office is well organized and on top of everything. Ben has been a great project manager. Would recommend!

Our experience with Matrix was good. We had a basement that needed demo but was mostly bare concrete floor and walls. Construction went smoothly and each trade cleaned up the job site daily. Overall communication with this company was good. Any issues were handled thru email via the Builders app and were responded to within a reasonable timeframe. Ben G. our assigned project site manager was in communication the entire time and any question I had he was quick to respond. He kept us informed of any potential delays and was quick to respond to any questions I had. The Buildertrend App made it easy to communicate with the Matrix team and stay informed on the subcontractors’ schedules. Overall, just a great experience and I like our new basement.

We just had our basement finished by Matrix basements and we were very happy with the process start to finish. Victor was our project manager and he was great. He called us and kept us up to date on everything that was happening and stopped by quite a bit to check on things. Matrix has an app for your phone with a calendar which shows you exactly what days workers will be in and they stayed on schedule. The app also shows you your payments and has all your documentation included. All the guys who came here to work were very polite, professional, clean and did great work. I recommend them!

Loved the app and transparency on the project. We were looking for white glove and we got it. On time and on budget. Issues were quickly addressed.

Matrix was definitely the right choice! The buildertrend app was super helpful. I always knew if I reached out with a question I would get a prompt and helpful response. The whole team at Matrix works together and they have a well oiled system!

Was going to get a quote. Got a hard sell from the appraiser - nice other than that. Insisted on my wife being there for 2 hours as well. It doesn't take 2 hours to measure a basement - anticipated more hard selling. Just didn't like it. When they mentioned a "proprietary wall system", I felt it best to punt. I'm good with an old fashioned dry-wall wall system.

An excellent basement contractor. I have a background in construction having been a CFO for contractors. I knew what to expect from a good contractor .From the initial proposal through the completion of the work Matrix was good to their word and completed things according to schedule. Every milestone and deadline has been met. The app that they use for scheduling and tracking progress with photos makes the process seamless and facilitates good communication throughout the construction period

We used Matrix to finish our basement. Thanks to Ben and all the contractors for helping to make our space look and feel really beautiful. We had a smooth project and are looking forward to using our new space.

After exploring 3 bids to do our basement we end up choosing Matrix. While I consider all 3 to be high Matrix fell somewhere in the middle. The sales representative that came out was very experienced and knew basements, but the sales process needed to be modernized a bit. The entire sales pitch where they throw out an absurd price then call a manager to come down doesn’t exactly leave you feeling very trusting of their numbers. Then the offer to reduce the price by offering to take out basic things like paint and the ceiling would have left me very unhappy with the job had I taken them out. My advice is to negotiate an all-in price and don’t try to split out unfinished parts or you will end up with far more work than you would imagine. Beyond that the sales rep spent some time measuring our basement and explaining the Matrix system which is basically metal studs, spray foam, and mold resistant drywall. In theory it creates a basement that’s far more resilient to a potential flood backed by their warranty. Not complicated but also not something most residential contractors are used to pulling together. Pay close attention to their contract form, since they won’t easily deviate from it unless it’s on there, which includes anything existing that may need to be removed or reconfigured. Overall, their system was comprehensive in planning out a basement, however you will need to pay close attention to any areas that may deviate from the drawings. They are good with permitted basements since they have a full office staff to keep up with all the paperwork the villages require. My only real criticism is the matrix permit staff needs to work on responding to emails within 24 hours even if they don’t have a full answer. Be careful considering a permit with your local village since they may require some very expensive changes beyond your original quote. No contractor can predict everything your village may or may not require since often you can get some accommodation, but there’s no guarantee. Matrix was quite eager to deliver the materials prior to the permit being awarded by the village who ended up delaying things for months. In retrospect I wish I held off until I had the permit since it required the 2nd payment, and no work was able to be done. Matrix uses many different subcontractors each specializing in their specific trade. You have the framers, electrician, plumber, drywall, HVAC, flooring installer and painters, like a larger commercial project. They provide a schedule through an app that is typically planned a few weeks out and the contractors stuck to it, always finishing within their allotted time. Out of the group the painters were the best. New construction painting is not like your typical painting, and they were able to really achieve the perfect finished look. That said some of the subs rushed through things creating more work to fix it. Our primary GC Ben was very capable and knowledgeable and always took care of my concerns. He did seem to be stretched thin. They did do a good job accommodating in-wall speakers with some guidance. The electrician and HVAC were experts in their trade. They didn’t put down the provided plastic and created an unnecessary level of mess in the unfinished area with a floor full of joint compound, paint, and construction adhesive which are not easy to clean. While I understand construction is messy just a little bit of effort would have gone a long way. The subcontractors could use better incentives to meet higher standards that I do believe Matrix supports. Matrix did end up fixing all the problems that came up without much pushback, all you had to do was ask. I would recommend Matrix to anyone looking to finish their basement since in the end they made sure to make us happy.

Matrix did a great job with the remodel of my basement. The whole process went very smooth and any concerns I had were addressed right away. The project was also completed ahead of the estimated timeline. Would definitely work with them again for any future work to be done at my home.

Phenomenal work all the way around from Matrix! We had the most incredible team to work with. Ben G. our site manager was on top of absolutely everything. Clear communications, full transparency, easy to get an hold of and extremely responsive, to top it off, just a great guy. Not only was working with Matrix easy, but the incredible craftsmanship that comes with it. Big shout out to Ramiro V. and his crew!!!! Without them, this project could never get done. Bobby and his team with electrical were “lighting” fast and even made each screw the same direction on the face plates. That’s craftsmanship and someone who cares! And an additional thank you to Fred (land his team for beautiful flooring, and one more to Steve and his HVAC technician making the basement the perfect temp! P.s. every single person that came through with Matrix made our 100lbs dog feel like the only dog in the world, incredible people working for Matrix and dog friendly!
