J Home construction was excellent. Was not a big bathroom, but the quality of work was very good. Very contentious workers. On-time and very clean. No mess. They came every morning at the scheduled time and worked very hard throughout the day. Very reasonably priced. Also worked with our schedules. Like any contractor be very specific what you want completed. And have it written down. Would use them again.

John quoted me the costs for renovating all of our baths & moving our laundry room in early 2023. We suffered an unexpected financial situation a month later and he patiently waited until we could afford to start our project, even honoring his original quotes a year later. He and his team were professional, punctual, and paid extra attention to the details to make sure everything met and exceeded our expectations. We are extremely pleased with the end results; and his recommendations, his honesty & fair pricing to address the typical issues that come up when upgrading plumbing, electrical & fixtures that hadn’t been updated in over 40 years. He also saved us thousands of dollars when dealing the plumbing and water damage issues they uncovered.

J.Home furnished our basement. They did a great job of meeting our needs and budget while offering up suggestions on how to best use the space. The employees were very talented and finished the project in 6 weeks which is the exact timeframe we were quoted.
Description of Work: Finished our previously unfinished basement: put up dry wall, trim insulation, built an office, built a reading nook, built a dry-bar, installed new windows, hung TV's, painted our ceiling and installed barn doors. The finished product is fantastic!

John is very professional, prepared, and responsive. He was very efficient when he came to look at our kitchen and sent us a quote quickly afterwards. For our project, he provided a fixed price for the job and there were no surprises. His workers always showed up on time and were polite and very pleasant to work with. They paid attention to small details and did a very nice job with the overall project. We highly recommend working with J. Home Construction and we have already hired them again for another project.

Don't hire J Home. They put cardboard under my floating vinyl plank floor and glued a lot of it down. I have had mold growing under my floor for YEARS due to their carelessness, which I would have never discovered if it weren't for pulling out a few planks after my drain backed up. John refused to make it right after 3 weeks of communication and blamed everyone but himself. The manufacturer's instructions clearly say that any underlayment or glue voids the warranty on this product. He first tried to tell me cardboard was a fine underlayment on concrete. Then he tried to tell me to claim on my insurance, then he accused me of just not liking the floor (despite wanting the same product replaced.) John doesn't stand by his work. I gave him a chance to make this right and he wouldn't. Don't walk away from J Home. Run.

It went very well. The master bath J. Home Construction created is beautiful. Top quality work. They are very professional and easy to work with. They installed 5 new bedroom/bathroom windows, new flooring, painted and installed light fixtures in the master bedroom. The tile work and shower they installed in my bathroom is gorgeous! they were always on time and let me know every step what was happening. I felt comfortable leaving them with a house key so they could let themselves in while I was working.. I'm extremely happy with the result and would definitely hire again.

Went outstanding! The primary Ace of All Trades (Stanley) was fantastic. Very experienced, shared great ideas and a wonderful gentleman. He took great pride in his work and cared about his customers. John the owner and General Contractor was also outstanding. brought us samples as needed. Gave us ideas and options. Very fair and thoughtful. The day after the job was completed, I had an unrelated need for kitchen and bath faucets replacement. I called John and Stanley came to help the next morning. What a wonderful organization. I will always use in the future.

It went very well. One of the laborers was kind of a screw up ( just young and immature) and I reported it to the owner. He was very quick to remove him from my job. Great work ethic workers showed up every day on time and worked continuously throughout the day. The tile guy was excellent and very meticulous. These guys are the rare breed that care about the quality of their work.

This is the 2nd time we've hired J. Home Construction, and we were very satisfied. Each time John was the first contractor to respond to our request for an estimate, the first contractor to submit an estimate, and each time he was the lowest bid. In early 2016 we hired him to convert a dining room/half bath into a 1st floor bedroom/full bath; the project included gutting down to the studs, new floors, walls, all new plumbing and tile, electric, and new windows and siding. In November 2017 we hired him to repair drywall in our kitchen and guest bedroom (a result of emergency plumbing work) as well as to complete some minor kitchen remodeling (installation of a tile backsplash and under-cabinet lighting) as well as painting the kitchen and a bathroom. The work was finished very well, and John made sure during the final walk through that the work was done to our satisfaction.

We got estimates from 3 contractors, and J Home understood what we wanted done, and did not try to upsell the project. John from J Home was always easy to reach, listened to our concerns, and dealt promptly with any problems that arose. He or one of his crew told us what workmen would be coming each day, and what work they were going to do, which we appreciated. The workmen were professional and personable, and consulted us if choices about the installation needed to be made. They did quality work, and our kitchen turned out beautifully. While a kitchen remodel disrupts the whole household, choosing J Home as a contractor certainly made it easier to survive. John walked us through the whole project, kept us calm when additional work needed to be done to comply with Village codes, and did a great job of coordinating the schedules of the various workers. We would not hesitate to recommend J Home Construction to family and friends.

You may be wondering why the ratings are that way they are, when there are so many positive reviews for this contractor. I will try to be as detailed as possible on my experience but needless to say I am not impressed. I will state that this review is 100% honest and I tried to be objective when I give rating to each category (Note I'm not just giving an "F" for everything). To give a sense of what I went through here's the timeline: Initial quote/estimate: John was very responsive, he answered my questions about the costs for different scopes and was able to come out to the house to do an estimate. He submitted a proposal and I accepted it. All of this happened within a week. Up until the initial payment, everything felt good. But at this stage there were 2 things that should have made me reconsider: 1) The contract was VERY basic, literally just the scope listed with no terms/conditions or anything else. I did more research later and found that it is in the best interest of all parties to have a much more thorough contract. 2) He was in a huge rush when we signed the contract/paid 50% down payment. It was obvious to us he was trying to be in/out on that day. Maybe he was busy, but it's a not a good sign that he runs off as soon as you sign the contract and give him a 50% deposit. Week 1 Demolition/Plumbing: John and his crew Adrian came to do the demo by himself. I gave them my parking spot along with my garage opener and keys so it's easy for them to work (Condo). Everything went well, the demo completed in 1 day. The plumber Mark came next, while not very talkative, was a nice guy as well. He seemed to know what he was doing and we talked about the project for a little bit. It was during the plumbing work that I experienced the FIRST communication problem. The plumber stopped coming after Wednesday. He did not return until Monday. I understand it's not always possible to schedule work for every single day to get a job done, but there is no communication of what day/time they were planning on coming in. I thought no big deal. Turns out this is only the beginning of this lack of communication. Week 2: Plumber returned on week 2 Monday and completed his plumbing work by end of Tuesday. Again, no communication from anyone. I went there after work in the evening to check on the progress to find out myself. I hear nothing and waited a few days, I asked John when are they returning to continue the work. He said soon. Week 3: Thursday of week 3 is when I ask John again, what is going on? End of week 3 and nothing is being done. He told me he's trying to schedule the "good tile guy" because he doesn't want to just give me "anybody". Trust him that this tile guy does good work. At this point I still wanted to have faith in him and give him the benefit of the doubt so I said ok. Week 4: John left me a voice mail saying the tile guy has been scheduled to come on Thursday of the week. Tile guy did shows up on Thursday. I meet him and talked a little about the project. We confirmed the patterns of which he'll lay the tiles for all the surfaces. He got most of the tiles laid with spacers by end of Friday. Week 5: Tiler grouts the tiles and completes his portion of the job. At this point we're 5 weeks in. There are tons of debris in the house so I asked John when he was going to take some of those away. He told me Thursday on the phone but did not come until Friday (without informing me) and just leaves me a voice mail saying he's in my unit and wants to know what to throw away. Not being in the unit I'm working from my memory, so I just say yes to what he said he saw. Week 6: Tuesday of week 6, John calls me and tells me that the vanity and the shower door are going to be extra charges. I asked why because we included them in scope. He claims that the countertop is not attached to the vanity cabinet and the shower doors aren't "basic" enough. I said what manufacturer would ever ship a vanity cabinet and attach the stone countertop to it? It's common sense that these need to be attached using silicone or adhesive later or else it'd have broken apart during shipping. As for the shower door, what manufacturer would attach all the handle bars and hinges and screws when they ship it? Disclaimer: I emailed John the links for all products I was buying and included any specifications he asked for. On top of that, everyone that has replaced a shower door knows you cannot buy an exact width door until the wall tiling is done because you don't know the exact width. I went out to a big box store and spent extra money to buy a wide-adjustable one (Fits 30-36in) to make sure it'll fit AND that I have the door ready instead of waiting until the tile guy was done and then buy one and wait for it to ship. First argument: We had probably a 30 minute argument on the phone about the extra charges. To break it down, he wanted extra for 1) 5 shut off valves (vanity/toilet) 2) 2 shut off valves (shower/tub) 3) Faucet valve. Item 1) was discussed during the plumber's work in week 2 which I had agreed to so that’s fine. But items 2 and 3 were never even asked to me. John out of no where sent me an invoice for all these items. Item 2)Plumber told me he could not finish his work because he had trouble cutting a copper pipe for the shower drain, so he needed a shut off valve to continue work for next day (Condos don't let water shutoff overnight). Item 3 was admitted by John to be his communication problem. He said the shower panel I got required a new valve and he needed to charge extra. Again, I sent him everything before and he said everything was fine. But since I understand a shower panel more complex than a shower head, I offered to split it with him 50/50 on that item, just to show goodwill. Second argument: There was a mirror left to be hung which has not arrived due to logistics problem (I found out the company shipped it to the wrong address). And at this point I already gave John the remaining balance of the original scope (withholding the extra work described above). This was a huge mistake. I decided to "move in" just to test everything out (I also had new kitchen stuff and new flooring done by other contractors). Each day I discover new problems from the bathroom project: 1) The backsplash of the vanity was never put in place, the entire stone is just SITTING on top of the countertop, could have caused some injury if the thing fell. 2) The shower door has side panel and the silicone seal was done horribly. You can clearly see it doesn't cover and will leak. 3) The tile surround for the tub has no grout/seal between the edge and the door frame 4) They removed the baseboard tiles behind the vanity without telling me, perhaps they could not fit the legs otherwise? (Although I have my doubts since the specifications show a 0.5 inch clearance and I showed the crews that) Again, to give John the benefit of the doubt, let's just assume it couldn't physically fit and they did what they had to. The end result was they left ALL the broken tile debris underneath the vanity (dust, pieces of tiles). Zero clean up and zero communication to the customer. 5) The vanity has a leak on one of the sinks, leaving a pool of water inside the cabinet. Good thing I checked and caught this or the cabinet would be ruined if left alone. I thought the sink was defective but I decided to do some research online and found the likely cause is poor workmanship in attaching the sink and drain. I tried tightening it more but it still leaked. I ended up fixing it myself 6) Garbage: I know you were all waiting for this one. So they stuffed like 1 cubic yards worth of garbage into our second bathroom. John's excuse is that we were having floor contractors installing new floor and needed to clear the space. But when I was on site I talked to his crew who promised they would get a truck to throw away the garbage the next day. It sat in my guest bathroom for DAYS. Eventually even the flooring contractors were shaking their head, and helped me take the garbage out. (See photo for garbage, everything behind that big box are filled). Later John's OTHER excuse is that he did not agree to throwing away boxes for materials I bought. I don't know how true that is but it doesn't change anything because there were still tile debris and metal pipes mixed in there. 7) Bathroom door. They took off the door so they can work easier but never reinstalled it. 8) Adrien: Remember the guy who demo'd everything? I found out later he's actually famous in the Polish construction business, known to be lazy and doesn't follow rules. I found an empty pack of cigarette in my unit with a smoked cigarette inside. I kept this to myself for a while. When I finally told him, his excuse was "it was someone else". I had no other contractor there when Adrien was working in my house. And my building manager told me, despite me giving them my parking spot, they had 2 cars on one day and Adrien parked his truck in the drive way when I specifically said he cannot park there (I even offered to pay for parking elsewhere). Bottomline: John is not intentionally ruining your house/project, and if you stay on the job site the entire time and watch every single thing they do you might be able to make this work. But for those of us who have busy jobs and family (I have a 8 month old daughter) it just doesn't work. I no longer wanted to have any of his crew in my unit with all the drama I've gone through. I have been either fixing the issues myself or paying a handyman. Headaches from clearing out trash, fixing leaks, to reinstalling bathroom door. Zero communication (unless John decides to do a surprise visit), whether it's a status update or pro-actively tell you about a problem, a 2-week job turning into 6-week job, with a mix of good/so-so subcontractors.

We were very pleased with our experience. Although ours was a small job we were treated like a top priority. John came out to look at the wall within 24 hours after I contacted him and had a quote emailed to me by the end of the day. He told us the job would take 2-3 days. His team was here 3 days in a row, beginning at 7 and leaving between 5 & 7 every day. We have worked with other contractors in the past who have started projects and left for a few days and come back or only worked a few hours per day. Construction disrupts living so it was wonderful to know they were working to finish our job as quickly as possible. John's team was also very professional and friendly. Their work was quality- we have had a number of people come to look at the finished project and commented on how nice it looks. John also stayed within budget even when we had a few unexpected items pop up. We will definitely hire J. Home Construction Services Inc. in the future.

John and his team did a fantastic job. He understood our objective of taking a unit that was in rough condition and getting it ready to sell. We wanted a nice job that would sell easily at the higher end of the market. John designed the unit with good quality materials and great color scheme. They replaced the kitchen to include cabinets, granite counter tops, new light fixtures. The bathroom was also completely gutted and updated. The flooring in the bedrooms and living room were replaced and the entire unit was painted. John delivered the job when it was promised. There was the perfect amount of communication from him throughout the job. We put it on the market at the high end of comps and received an offer from the first person to look at it and went to contract in 3 days for close to the asking price. I highly recommend J Home and will use them again.

The quality of the work is excellent. They completely remodeled the basement from ceiling to floors and everything in between, including redoing the built in bar and cabinets. The project stayed within the quoted price and time frame and the workmen were not only polite and tidy but very personable. The basement looks outstanding and we just had our first dinner party, whereby we served drinks and appetizers at the bar and our guests were very impressed. I would recommend this company to anyone wishing to update a room in their home. We intend to contract with them again for future projects.

Our shower was demolished because of a leak into another unit. Prior to hiring this contractor we hired a plumbing contractor who replaced the pipes, tore out all walls, tiles, and installed a new shower base. Prior to the contract being signed an inspection of the project was done, the contractor quoted a price, which included the price to tile the shower ceiling. This was fine. After completion of the project, the bill included an extra charge. I called and talked to the owner and expressed my concern for this extra charge which I was not aware of. The owner was very very professional, he came to our home acknowledged that we should have gotten written confirmation of the price before the work was done. We agreed upon a final bill. The work looks professional and we are pleased. I would hire him again because he is a fair man and he acknowledged what should have been done.

Looking back I think purchasing the 'deal' for all the work I wanted was unwise. The contractor aspires to quick turnaround on small bathrooms and my 7 x 7 remodel job spanned 3 weeks. I was granted only a third of the material allowance noted in the deal. I had the tile and grout and purchased most other items from sources other than the big box home stores. Overall, I found communications difficult. The primary worker was skilled, quick and proud of his work. A second worker was brought in to grout and paint. He was rushed to complete which meant inadequate dry time for wall repair and no time for dust to settle after sanding. The paint job was unacceptable and a major wall patch bubbled! Also several floor tiles were chipped after this worker grouted. The second worker needed closer supervision and I wonder if the chipped floor tiles and paint job would have been acceptable to the crew had I not expressed my extreme disappointment. The primary worker returned for repairs. Now I'm seeing small cracks in grout surrounding the tub. There were two major extras for which I advocated vigorously and requested estimates after demolition. A pocket door and radiant electric floor. The door took significant carpentry skills and overall looks good. However, one side of the wall pocket is adjacent to one end of the tub. While the back of the durock seals the upper wall, the bottom of the wall was left open. The hazard is that cold air seeps up through the subfloor beneath the tub which sits over a crawl space. This oversight is aggravating because I explained several times about the uninsulated crawlspace. Heat in the floor was a critical improvement based on this condition. When the ceiling fan runs, cold air is drawn through this opening on one side of the wall pocket. I did not receive a pre-estimate for the extras after several requests. Price for the 18 sq ft radiant electric floor was too high compared to 2 other quotes. Without a pre-estimate, I could only compare the final invoice. My condo is about 950 sq ft. It was tough to live amidst construction dust. I'm sure it's easier to work when residents don't cohabitate. It would have been helpful if the floor canvas would have been rolled up for the days between work. Shaking these out once or twice over 3 weeks would have kept my family's foot traffic from spreading grime to non work zones. UPDATE JAN 15: Approx 1 month since last at my place and 6 weeks since the grout job performed by a worker hired by JHOME. Lowering ratings. Professionals would provide an estimate for extra work ahead of performing it. They would also supervise and inspect the quality of work performed by someone new to their crew. I have applied no chemicals, done no scrubbing of tile surrounding the tub and have chipped tiles as well as what look like holes in grout lines. 2 of these on the faucet wall. Is the faucet not water tight? This is why I hire "professional s"; to feel confident, but I don't trust that the grout work was performed properly.
