Summertime has arrived in Chitown - weather is 79 degrees currently - about 10 degrees warmer from the inside of my living room and sweat dripping from my brow as I'm writing this review. If you are considering leasing from Brian Properties, please take the time to read this review. This is how, in my own opinion, the chain of events have transpired thus far. When I first signed my leasing contract with Brian properties, they verbally promised me that I would receive a new stove, new windows, a new door for the balcony, new valves on my gas heaters, sideboards in the kitchen and dining area, and most importantly - air conditioning. Please also take note that the heating is gas radiators, and my valves are STILL not working properly so I have no control over turning the heat off. It comes on when the boiler downstairs reaches a certain temperature. So far, I've received the stove and the windows. I specifically asked the gentleman who drafted my lease if these things addressed above would be taken care of - he assured me that they would. The way he/they instructed me to follow up on the status of the new fixtures and the appliances was to communicate with the property manager who was on site. When I knocked on the gentleman's door at 5pm in the evening, he told me to never knock on his door again, and the only time I was allowed to communicate with him was when he passed by in the hallway(?). I called Brian Properties and told them that I needed a better form of communication on the status of the maintenance issues and that in my opinion this was unacceptable. They assured me that I could communicate through them and that they would contact the property manager onsite. I'm now opening up my windows at night to let some cool air in, and from the time I TRY to go to sleep, around 9 pm to about 3 am in the morning, all I hear is the cars from the downtown area honking their horns and the Metra train rolling down the track. The lack of sleep is most displeasing, and it also causes my guests to be annoyed when sleeping over. There is a ceiling fan in my room, so I try to turn that on and generate some air flow in the bedroom. There is a LOUD creaking noise that the fan makes. I make another phone call to Brian Properties again to say can you AT THE VERY LEAST replace the ceiling fan that makes the noise so that I can turn it on at night? It is so loud that even ear plugs cannot drown the sound out. They called the property manager, and he stopped by to take a look at it. He told me that the fan was bad and that I definitely needed a new one, that he had run out on his budget for a new apartment, and that he was glad I put in a maintenance request with Brian Properties because now it was on THEM to get things fixed. I was also told by him I would receive a portable A/C unit, and that he would call the gas company about the valves on the heaters because this was a plumbing issue, and neither of these things have happened. I make phone calls often. I complain. Nothing gets done. I'm miserable in the heat, and lack of sleep. I will not be renewing my lease with Brian Properties and I would encourage anyone considering leasing from them to STAY AWAY. DO NOT LEASE with this company. They will give you the run around, give no straight answers, and take advantage of you.
