These guys are great! Dave showed up and was very informative and I asked him to look into a few other things, which he did without hesitation. He gave me some needed recommendations, explanations as to why they were important, and also estimates for the service and said to just call them with any questions or to set up time to come back to complete the recommendations. Appreciate the professionalism and efficiency in which the work was completed. Will be calling them to perform the needed recommendations and won't hesitate to refer them out to friends and family.

The workers were very polite, very clean and the boss even came out on the job.

From initial contact to job execution, this company excels in follow-up, in my opinion, at least. Each e-mail I sent regarding this damper installation was answered promptly. The company called 24 hrs before the scheduled appointment to re-confirm it. They arrived within the estimated time window provided. I selected this company from other Angie's List providers because their price for this product was about 35% less than a competitor's. The product comes with a lifetime guarantee (not sure if the labor is included). The father and son team began working immediately and they didn't seem to mind my asking lots of questions about the installation process. They worked efficiently AND carefully, for climbing onto a roof as high as mine is quite serious, and as a homeowner, I get nervous each time I witness this. This company inspired more confidence that safety was a concern than most workers I've seen here. The installation team proceeded with the task. Once installed, Mr. Pratt, the owner, I believe, walked me through how to operate the new damper. He also provided a suggestion on how to remedy a separate issue with the smoke chamber. Also while installing the damper, he alerted me to a "quality of craftsmanship" concern from a chimney rebuild by another company, warning me that the problem would need repair eventually. I have another fireplace and when I remodel the room where it is, I intend to call the company back to install a top sealing damper on that fireplace also. I noticed a difference when I made a fire tonight. The top damper reduced the air. I believe this will make a big difference in the temperature in the house this winter. Thanks to this highly professional company for helping bring this about.

No show. Called other Angie's list contractors. Update: Steve called me personally the next day to apologize. As I indicated above, I suspected that this was an oversight. I also received a call from the office manager and another follow up call from Steve. All involved were profusely apologetic for the oversight, which I understand. They handled the matter with great professionalism and courtesy and assured me that their procedures have been changed to correct the problem and make sure that it does not happen again. I'm confidant that any future users will not have this problem. I appreciate their follow ups which were handled very honestly and professionally.

The group told her that the chimney was clean and it didn't need to be cleaned. They also did not charge her anything for the inspection. How refreshing! They are not on Angies List, and we wanted to make sure they got the review on Angies list.

Steve is exceptional!! I'm sorry it has taken me so long to write this review, but I was pregnant with twins at the time and it has been a little bit of a crazy year. We noticed a leak in our son's room which happens to share a wall with the chimney. We had three contractors which we found on Angie's list come to evaluate the situation. All gave bids, but Steve was the only one who got on the roof with a hose for a couple of hours until he found the exact location of the leak. I was sold! Steve and his crew did a wonderful job in that they were able to immediately do the work, they were neat and we have had absolutely no issues since they fixed the leak and built up the slant next to the chimney (I forgot the technical name for this). Steve also came in a couple of hundred dollars under his quote. Talk about honest!!! I was so pleased with him that I referred him to my parents this summer (2014). Steve did work at my parents' house in Wilmette, and they were so pleased that they asked him to evaluate a suspected chimney issue at an investment property that they have in the city. Steve inspected the chimney and reassured my mom that the chimney was safe and didn't need any work. Incidentally, at their home in Wilmette, Steve replaced an improperly installed chimney lining and connections to the surface and removed the flammable tape used for connections by the prior installer (North Shore Chimney) in 2008. Steve will certainly have my entire family's business for years to come!!

That was absolutely outstandingly excellent.

He was very professional, called when 15 mins away, wore booties, laid tarp to protect the floors and rugs, and cleaned up afterwards. It was a no mess process. He did make suggestions about work that might be needed in the future, but said it could wait. No pressure, Great experience.

It went very well. Steve Pratt was punctual and even remember that we had our 45th wedding anniversary as that was the reason we needed to change our appointment. He was very protective of our home and furniture, making sure to cover everything with clean drop cloths, the fireplace is 4 sided so that was very important. He also covered his shoes before entering. During his inspection he discovered some serious problems with the mortar, which was actually falling down. He was able to show my husband were the problems were. HIs crew was also very personable and efficient. We would definitely recommend Steve and his team to all our family and friends. Great job guys!!!!

On very short notice (less than 24hrs), they came out to inspect the roof and chimney for a house I was planning to purchase. Angie from Pratts (not Angie's list) was extremely professional and very pleasant to talk with and when I explained the situation to her she made a few calls and was alble to accomodate my reequest to have someone come out within a 2-hour window, on a Saturday! Shaun from Pratts arrived early and was waiting for me when I got there. He too was extremely professional, courteous, and respectful of the property. He was thorough, took pics, and gave me a summary of what the issues were, explaining everything in non-technical terms so that I could understand. He took off his shoes when he came in the house, inspected the roof, skylights, fireplace, and chimney from the basement all the way up, even noting improper venting from the hot water heater into the chimney... something about they should have used a reducer instead of just joining two pieces of ductwork together. I was quite impressed with this company and happy they are a family run business, who understands good business practieces. I also appreciated that fact that they maintain professional certifications.I am still waiting for the quote, which I expect later today, so this review is for the inspection only. Based on the service I received, it is very likely I will use them for the repair as well, and will follow up with another review for services performed.

I liked them a lot. They were probably at the lower end of the estimates that we got. They were reasonable. Just to do the estimates they were here on time. They were really thorough. They did a really nice job walking us through what was going on and how they would fix it. Once we decided on them they were on time. They did what they said they were going to do within time and budget. The repair is holding up great! There are no issues.

I was under an extreme time-crunch due to the impending sale of the home. Pratt worked with me to quickly get an estimate and when I explained my situation (needed something fixed correctly, but as cheaply as possible to address an inspection), they suggested an alternate route that other contractors had not that was compliant with building codes but significantly lowered the price. I had already moved away and they coordinated the work with my realtor, showed up when they said they would, and got everything done on-time and on-budget. I was extremely pleased with their responsiveness and their creativity to work with me in my particular situation.

I called Pratt's Professional Chimney Service to get an estimate to repair our chimney. I spoke with Angie on the phone and set up a date to get our chimney looked at. Travis came out and gave us a detailed estimate. A day or two after we got the estimate I called and spoke with Travis and Angie about picking the color of our chimney bricks out. Travis brought samples (bricks) to our home. You cant beat that for customer service. Actually seeing the brick made it easy to pick which color we wanted. Angie and Travis helped to make this an easy process . Due to the weather we had to reschedule our day twice. No worries they came out on a Sunday! Steve and his crew did a great job our chimney looks great! They rebuilt the chimney and left the area as clean as it was before the repair. A very professional family run business.

Very professional company. On time and met expectations regarding the work they were contracted to do. I would highly recommend their services.

The job was done with complete professionalism and excellence. They showed up right on time and left the chimney and firebox better than when they found it. We had our first fire a couple of nights ago and it drafted perfectly. We are extremely happy with the work that Steve did. He is obviously very skilled and knows what he is doing. The price was very good and even less than another company who did not know what they were doing. I would absolutely hire him again and wish I had hired him from the start!
