Marcussen Plumbing

Randy Marcussen was hired to remove a water softener and restore pipe connections at the water main where the softener resided. Two days later, the pipes burst at one of the fittings he had installed. I shut off the water main, but the damage was already done, flooding my entire workshop area, destroying Pergo flooring, baseboard, carpeting, insulation, drywall and numerous personal items that were floating on the floor. If we weren’t home to shut the water off, we would have had multiple feet of water in our basement. I frantically called Mr. Marcussen who responded about one hour later to repair his original pipe connections with higher quality pipe fittings. He apologized and vowed to help with renumeration. His invoice specifies a one-year warranty on his work. After many, many attempts to contact him, he has disconnected his home telephone and refuses to answer his cell phone or return my calls. I have received no renumeration from him. From his lack of response, I suspect he has no insurance and is not bonded. I don’t want others hurt by his incompetence, unprofessional conduct, shoddy workmanship . I’m hoping a sanction from the BBB will educate other potential customers.

In April, I contracted with Marcussen to make plumbing code repairs on a house I bought in Zion. I gave a down payment of $2100. After a week, Zion Building Department said he has not filed for a permit. He does not answer messages of his phone. The check, however, was immediately cased. Stay away from him.

In short it has been a nightmare with no foreseeable end, if you would like to details - by all means read on . . . To date I have made the appropriate payments as outlined in the agreement through rough plumbing inspection in the basement and Randy has disappeared from the face of the earth. My primary issues are as follows: 1. They have gutted two bathrooms and neither are anywhere near working order. 2. The contractor installing the tile in the master bath is butchering the job. I feel it lacks the appropriate sealing underneath the tile to prevent water damage and mold. I have been assurred over and over that it won't leak, but I just can't see how this is possible. 3. The basement bath has had a drain added for the shower and cement poured over it PRIOR to any testing for leaks or proper drainage. I also fault the county inspector as he never even checked to see if everything was sealed correctly and the pitch of the pipe was appropriate before passing. The contractor just poured the cement the same day and it was me who asked if anyone checked to see if it drains. Sure hope nothing is lose and leaking underground!?!?! 4. The plumbing modifications made in the basement for the new shower has since leaked and my basement now has water in it as a result. As a result I also have damage to carpet, drywall and oak molding in the main area adjacent to the bathroom. 5. One rug and our bedroom carpeting is beyond cleaning as a result of one person tracking a days worth of crude back and forth from outside. I could go on and on, but the fact is I have paid 70% for a job which is 30% complete and I suspect I will have numerous issues in the future if not immediately following the project completion - assuming we ever get to completion. I have intentionally left the name of the contractor out as I cannot hold him accoutable for the plumbers absolutely poor work and vanishing without a trace. This has put the contractor in a position where he is obligated to fulfill the contract without the plumber. I do believe he is cutting corners and all in all we are suffering the consequences. If you are able to find this plumber - DO NOT HIRE HIM!! Oh yeah and tell him he owes me a little money.
