I've been using them for 30 years. They are very honest, reasonable, and they just do a good job.

I called at about 8:30 this morning because our AC unit wasn't turning on. We've used Gene's several times in the past for our furnace and have been pleased. Shawn came out at a little after 9am, found out it was a burnt out capacitor. Switched it out, checked the freon, made sure we had good airflow and was done by 9:35am. I knew after talking to the lady on the phone that it would cost at least $85, $45 for the service call and $40 per half hour for labor. That plus the $48.95 for the part that needed replaced and tax and I'd have to say there were no surprises. He was very prompt, professional and thorough. I couldn't have asked for better.

We are very disappointed in our experience with Gene's. We strongly recommend you do not use them. On June 9, we received a bid for the replacement of our HVAC system. On the handwritten bid, the owner, Rick Jones, wrote an incorrect amount for the power company rebate we would be expected to receive. Based on other companies' bids, we knew this amount to be incorrect, and we had to contact Gene's to let them know they gave us vastly inaccurate information. After doing further research, we decided to switch from a gas system to an electric one. We consulted with Gene's on the best system for our needs and scheduled installation for June 24. However, on the morning of installation, we were just checking some final details for the day and Rick informed us that our system would not qualify for any federal rebate money. We had been discussing with Rick our desire to get federal rebate money FROM THE BEGINNING of our bid with them, but they failed to let us know when we changed systems that the system they recommended to us would not qualify for any rebate money. This was very frustrating to be told on the morning of installation. We told them this would not work, and so they recommended an upgraded system that would qualify for the rebate. We then had to reschedule installation for June 29. As installation was occurring that day, my husband checked on the process and realized they were installing an air conditioner instead of a heat pump, which we had discussed with Rick from the beginning. We were then shown the bid that we had signed off on, and it did say "air cond" but we had discussed heat pump systems with Rick the entire time, and this was a complete shock. The heat pump system also was going to cost us an additional $490 for which we had not budgeted. We asked Rick to please pay half of this cost because he had made the first mistake by not clearly listening to us during the original conversation. We have bids from multiple other companies for heat pump systems; we have a heat pump in our house now and we have never wanted anything except a heat pump system. Rick refused to acknowledge his obvious mistake, claiming that because we had signed the bid, even though it was handwritten and the words "air conditioner" were abbreviated poorly, he would take no responsibility for his error. Gene's made three significant mistakes over the course of their bid with us and we should have stopped working with them after the first one (the power company rebate error) and we could have avoided such disappointing and unprofessional customer service. We encourage you to look elsewhere for HVAC service. We will not use Gene's for our planned ongoing maintenance of our system.
Description of Work: Gene's replaced our entire HVAC system - heat pump with an electric auxiliary backup.
