Just putting the finishing touches of window treatments in our new great kitchen and couldn't be happier with the outcome! We took out a wall between an unused, small family room and the kitchen. This also meant re-routing the furnace vents. (We needed to replace the furnace regardless so the timing was right.) We contacted Mega in January and chose them based on reviews and the fact that we believe in supporting local family businesses. This was a first-time experience for us. We learned a lot about this "relationship" that is formed with the Mega sales, engineer, crew and also other services (the design team at Shapes and HVAC). Jeremy (sales) was very professional and prompt with answers to our many questions. He and Don (engineer) helped us patiently to resolve challenges with our design along the way. - and there were many! Our space is large enough but the shape is more rectangle and permanent fixtures like doorways, patio door, windows and even a fireplace to deal with made design challenging. We had about 12 versions of the renderings before we confirmed the final. We quickly learned that this was going to be a slow process if we wanted to be happy with it in the end. Once the designing was complete (which took over 4 months) the other steps were quick (the demolition and the remodel) We moved into the functional kitchen mid June. Of course there is wait time for the cabinets so then we started shopping for the counters , flooring, backsplash, sink etc. MEGA helped guide me to resources to keep me on budget. There were many items to choose and purchase and they even guided me through all of that to make the best choices for us. That was very valuable and time saving for me.They were always available and always got back to me quickly. (Heard them say jokingly that I "needed my hand held" but take no offense because we paid them to do just that and I knew I needed it.) If there is any company striving to making the 100% mark in service it is MEGA. Three months after completion I've noticed some nail pops and a screw that was stripped and making a cabinet pull-out drawer a little loose and I called them and got immediate response. In the beginning we hesitated to pay someone to coordinate everything for us but found early on that giving that responsibility to MEGA was not a mistake. When a question came up about anything from electrical, paint, plumbing etc we had a go-to-guy and solutions were immediate. You don't get that when you, the homeowner, hold the clip board. The crew was always respectful of our home, keeping it clean and staying on task to get it done as projected. They also interacted well with each other and that impressed me. We elected to have a lock box put on the house so they could come as early as they wanted. The workers came in and out and didn't act as though our little dog was an inconvenience. The carpenter who did the cabinets, trim and flooring was great! He worked every minute he was here and left the area spotless each day. His work is noticed by all who see our kitchen in the details he put together. The crew who put the old cabinets up in the garage really surprised us with their precision just for the garage! They also interacted well with each other and that impressed me. I loved that they always showed up in their clean, MEGA trucks! I would hire them to do my next big job! get it done as projected. I loved that they always showed up in clean trucks! I would hire them to do my next big job!

From beginning to end everything went extremely well. Mega NEVER said no to anything that was brought up and was completely professional in all aspects of the work. The oak cabinets were installed to perfection and the countertops were as well. They even went so far as to get us a temporary sink counter to use while the install was going on to minimize inconvenience. All the guys from Jeremy to Don to Joe to Lou to Travis and Raul were wonderful to deal with and I would HIGHLY recommend Mega to anyone that REALLY wants the job done RIGHT!

They were on time, thorough and professional. They're estimate was just 3 times higher than the company we ended up going with who performed the exact same fixes that Megapro estimated. So...needless to say, it left me wondering how "honest" they are in their pricing. The company we went with were just as professional and did the same work for a third of the cost quoted by Megapros. Lesson learned... get at least 3 estimates before you decide to go with someone!

We had contracted with Mega for the named services because they were supposed to not only do excellent work but to also provide outstanding customer service. We accepted what we thought was a large increment in cost compared to other contractors because of this. When, during a walkthrough with Mike about the job, I tried explaining our concerns about protecting the plants around the house. My wife reminded me that Mega has done this kind of thing many times before and that I didn't need to tell them how to do their job. Oops. When the roofing crew arrived as scheduled, I tried to communicate to them some issues and concerns. None of them spoke English. They started work without doing much to protect the plants and trees. The first step was a tear-off, so clearly material was dropping from the roof. I indicated that they should stop work. I called Mega about this. When Don showed up, he asked me what I wanted them to do. He said that he had been delayed and that if he had been on time he would have prepped the site. When I pointed out that the crew should not have started work until he got there, he said that they wanted to get moving as soon as possible. He also said that the roof was very steep and difficult to work on. I pointed out that that they obviously knew this when they bid and should have instructed their crew to properly protect the propery before starting work. Don had them put up a tarp in such a way that it would probably protect the foliage on one area of the yard and told me that they were supposed to move it as they moved around the house. (They did not do this and in fact it would have been impractical for the entire job.) With few exceptions, there was no way to address problems except by phone with managment and pantomime with the roofing crew. It became a constant battle to get the roofing team to protect the property. From time to time I did see that the crew was manually trying to minimize the fallout in some areas but some areas became a dumping ground with no protection at all. Mega did deliver some materials that could have been used for ground protection but never used them. Tools including garden forks were left out where they were a danger to both plants and people. Snips (for cutting strapping material) were left on our front walk near the sidewalk where anyone walking by could pick them up or trip on them coming up our walk. We did not expect the site to be pristene each night but leaving a bag and wrappers from their fast food lunch in the gangway one night was a sign of not caring. In contrast, the gutter and downspout work was done professionally and carefully. Each night they stowed their ladders and tools in appropriate and safe areas on our property. They even pointed out some potential roof repair issues which were taken care of before the roofers finished. The bathroom light and fan was done well but see the email body below. In the followup meeting they did admit responsibility for the plants and agreed to complete contracted work that was not done. I pointed out that they had not installed all the roof vents they said they would and now wonder what would have happened if I had not noticed. The corrective work was done very soon after, along with some changes they agreed to do to make up for the mess. They also agreed to do some work for free in our bathroom later in October. When the end of October came and no one called us, my wife called them. Their response was immediate and they scheduled a crew out to do the job. My wife and I agree that if she had not called they might have forgotten about it altogether. As it was, Mike and Don had told us that the work they proposed would take two to three days but in fact the crew they scheduled told me that they had to finish the job in one day. Were they doing this to get us off their backs; could the work have been scheduled later and done properly? Our feeling about Mega is that although the basic workmanship of the contracted work was good to excellent, communication and followup were bad or at a minumum not as advertised. I personally felt that Don Domanus was condescending the first day - after that it didn't matter. Some calls to them were returned promptly, some were not returned at all. Most of the workmen and specialists I encountered were professional, personable, communicative and seemed to care. I feel that all the problems we had could be laid at the feet of management. My wife wrote an email to WGN radio, copied to Mega, the body of which I have included below. Please understand that ALL of the landscaping, research, design, planning, ground preparation, plant/seed acquisition, planting, weeding, pruning, etc. was done by my wife alone. The magnolia on the side of the house which she started from a cutting (which our daughter laughingly called 'the stick') years ago is now about twelve feet tall and flowers wonderfully. A small, fragile tree in the front of the house, if ruined. could only have been replaced by a planting half as big and not available until November, 2015! The email follows - As a long time listener of WGN radio I have heard countless commercials endorsing Mega Home Improvement. I have even known one of the people who recorded a Mega commercial. A common theme in all of the commercials is their customer service and, that when they are through, you do not even know they were there, they leave things cleaner than when they started. Based on these commercials, and WGN's endorsement of Mega, we contracted with them to replace our roof, gutters and downspouts and to install a light/exhaust fan in our bathroom. The work they did was fine, they corrected the few things we were not satisfied with. Our problem was with the condition of our property when they were finished. My flower gardens were ruined by the roofing crew (I have attached a couple of pictures). My plants were smashed and trampled. They had put their ladders across the plants overnight, roofing materials were thrown or dropped onto the plants. Since all of this happened in late September I will not know until next spring and summer what plants have survived and what plants need to be replaced. Mega has promised to replace any plants next year. The light/fan in the bathroom had to be installed in a different location than the existing light fixture. Since repairing the ceiling was not part of the scope of work, that hole was covered with plastic and left for us to repair (we had agreed to this). The problem was that the bathroom was left with plaster dust on all surfaces. I had to clean the entire bathroom when I came home from work. Because of our dissatisfaction with the condition that our house was left in, Don Domanus offered to patch the hole and paint the bathroom at no cost to us. Our walls are plaster and the bathroom walls needed some other repairs and so he said that they would sand and skim coat the walls and paint the room. This was all done in one day, sanding, skim coat, priming and paint. As a result there are a couple of areas that did not dry completely before painting and the paint has bubbled. The bathroom was not cleaned after completion. There was plaster dust over the entire bathroom that I again had to clean. It is Saturday and this work was completed on Tuesday and Mega has not contacted us to see how the job went. Even though the work (roof, gutters, downspouts and exhaust fan) that we contracted for was completed satisfactorily, I will never call Mega for work again and I would not recommend them. We have had an email from the president of Mega offering to 'make it right' and my wife has communicated with him. They had their chance. ps. We have lived here for over 25 years and have had in that time done many projects inside and out. This was not, as they say, our first rodeo.

They came out and measured and gave us all the details. The guys were here on time and were very professional and friendly. Lou, the head carpenter was able to recess our bathroom mirror when the old one was surface mount and looks so much better. They were going to put in a new vinyl window in by our glass block but when they were not able to they replaced the whole thing (glass block and all) and looks even better. The tile job came out beautiful. The price was pretty much on point with other contractors. My husband heard about them through WGN radio and thought about giving them a try and we are glad we did. We do need some painting done and thinking about using them (I just don't want to paint anymore) They also cleaned up everyday. I would recommend them

The work was properly done in only three and a half work days. The workers arrived early each day and worked until between 4 PM and 5:30 PM. They did a clean-up each day and a major clean-up at the end of the job. I wish I would have called these guys to build the original room.
Description of Work: Mega replaced much of the framing of our three season room that rotted from improper window installation done by the original builder. Mega also replaced the eight windows and one door. Most of the exterior had to be removed and replaced.

This is the second project I have done with Mega. They are certainly not the least expensive vendor but their are the most professional contractor I have dealt with. They are prompt, they communicate well, and take the time to do extremely high quality work. Jeremy and Don were fantastic to work with and the crew came every day and did the work. I liked the fact that unlike the traditional vendor of siding, I was able to do a large number of additional items as part of the project and have one general contractor. I am a firm believer of the adage that "you get what you pay for." We probably could have saved 10 or 15 percent with another vendor but after so many issues with others, I am happy I went with Mega.

Joe came out to the house and briefly looked at things. I am having major draft and noise issues after having new soffits and windows installed by another company. Joe said he would have his insulation/soundproofing person come look at things and tell me more about the Thermascan process. That Monday, I received a call from the office stating the insulation person will be calling me. The following Monday I called asking about the status of hearing from their insulation person. I was told by the woman who answer that she would call the insulation person and have him call me right back. I have yet to hear from anyone from Megapro. While they were all pleasant and did not charge for the initial visit, the lack of follow up is more than disappointing and unprofessional.

Didn't have a clue how to pull window out of frame. Not familiar with Hurd windows. Mega should not advertise as a window repair service. Mega may be great at installation, but did not have a clue how to fix or who to refer me to for some one capable of repairing jammed or broken spring balances.
Description of Work: Came to house to repair 4 double hung windows
My family and I recently moved into a new home and although the kitchen was big enough there were only seven small cabinets in half of the kitchen, the other half being an eat in kitchen area. This was not enough space so we decided to get it renovated. We received a referral from a family member to contact Mega who had just finished a bathroom project recently at their home and did a GREAT job. We worker closely with Don To come up with the plans for the kitchen. They were readily available and answered questions promptly. When the project started we got a full plan with what to expect and when to expect it. Although the work took a little longer than expected, it was not the fault of Mega but the counter company. The workers worked throughout the day with very few breaks and cleaned up after themselves very well. My family And I are very happy with our new kitchen.
Description of Work: Complete renovation of kitchen, drywall, plumbing, electrical work, insertion of cabinets and appliances, some floor tile repair, ventilation
We were very concerned about the fireplace because that is how our house fire started. They address everything in detail, reviewed inspections and went out of there way to really protect from another house fire. Our fireplace looks awesome, and just used it this week so it made me think about them. There whole process is clean professional and incredible to watch. Thanks Mega Guys. Will give you a call in the spring our next project is siding.
Description of Work: We had a house fire and had used Mega pros before. It was a small fire and our fire department was terific. none the less it was a huge mess and caused us a lot of grief. The Mega pros from the very begin where great response and understanding to our need for fast turn around. The room was entirely prepped for tiling. Joe called at the time he was supposed to arrive and he said he would be an hour late. He did not apologize for his late arrival. We had chosen the first time slot of the day. He was courteous but seemed not to listen or pay attention. The estimate received was 6,500.00 hundred dollars for the three other estimates we received on the same date. He left and said an estimate would be emailed it was and as stated it was thousands more than the three other contractors we had estimate the job. I had heard great things about Mega from the ads on WGN..we will be needing windows and a new roof in he next few years but with this estimate being thousands higher than the other angie's list providers we will not even ask for an estimate for the upcoming projects. I am sure that the work would have been fine but the estimate was out of line, they clearly did not want the work.

They left the place clean after their work. I do not know if everybody else on the job even spoke English. I never heard them. I left in the morning about 7:30 and came home by 5, i had a brand new roof on my house and absolutely no remnants of my old roof anywhere. it was as if it fell from the sky perfectly.
Description of Work: The MegaPros, replaced our roof. They ended up having to replace about 15 sheets of plywood due to damages. They said it was lack of ventilation and offered a solution. They properly vented out my bathroom exhaust fans the old owners had it vented in my attic which I was told is a very bad idea. And then they installed a ridge vent eliminating the old aluminum vents making my roof look a lot nicer and from what they say my attic a lot cooler.
