The first time the technician came out, he was significantly late. My appointment window was from 8-9am and he showed up at 9:30am -- (after calling at 8:50-ish saying he was 10 minutes away). I had a meeting at work at 10am (which I was late to) so other than saying here's the tub, here's what I want, and here's a payment, I couldn't be at home to supervise the process. I think this was the first sign of trouble. When I got home and took a look at the tub, I thought the patch of the old hole where the faucet was looked great - - I couldn't even see where it use to be. The drain had been mostly scraped clean - The cover had been refinished over with porcelain by the previous owner so I wanted it back to bare metal. There are still some white/cream flakes of porcelain on it, but it's way better than it use to be. Then I looked at the actual inside of the tub and noticed that there were "thin" patches. Places where you look and can slightly see the cast iron through the porcelain and when you run your fingers over it, you can tell that there's a dip - it's definitely has less porcelain there. As the company claims 100% satisfaction guaranteed, I called them up and asked what was wrong with the tub coating. They at first insisted that it was probably just shadowing based on the light in the room and asked if I had looked at the tub in different lights. After explaining how it actually felt different, they agreed that the coating needed to be repaired/patched in those areas and we set up a time for this. I did have to cancel that original repair appointment at the last minute because I could not get out of work that day. I called the office and left a message and asked that they call back and we could reschedule. I never received a call or anything. So I called back - not the end of the world. When they did make it back out to do the repair, it was the same technician as previously. This time I was at home and looked at the tub when he was finished and was like okay, but there's a spot over here that still looks funny - so he fixed it. He then said he'd need to be back a third time to buff the tub out and get the layers to be a smooth even transition between the repairs and the previous re-coat. This did happen. I looked at the tub a few days later once everything was dried and I'm just not quite sure what happened to it between when they came out the first time and the second/third times. I think the tub looks worse than what I started with - before I called them to refinish. There are now rocks on the bottom of the tub - I realize that yes, I do use the tub as a shower 99% of the time. However, there's no reason I couldn't use the tub for a bath, but who wants to sit on this sand paper bottom of the tub for that?? Other things include the fact that there are black dog hairs trapped within the white porcelain and I cannot get them out - (most likely from my dog, but I wiped the tub down before the technician came). There is also a spot near the front of the tub where it looks like someone used tape to mask off an area and then when the tape was peeled up, the coating came up. This area is not a high gloss like the majority of the inside of the tub. I choose this company because, at the time, they had good reviews on Angie's List, they were ~$100 less than similar companies, and they could fit me in the schedule much sooner (couple of weeks vs. 1 month +). Overall, refinishing the tub has been a poor choice and a waste of time and money. I'm worried that if I call Arlington Porcelain again and ask them to fix this it will be even worse than now (which I have a hard time imagining how much worse it could be). The two positives I have are the color of the tub and the great job they did patching the hole on the front of the tub.
Description of Work: Stripped inside of and refinished antique claw foot tub. Also patched hole in the wall of the tub.

This didn't go vey well. I called and requested that 2 tubs be refinished; simple enough. Allen was in over his head quickly; he showed very little patience and maturity. He thought he knew best and insisted on selling me a partial refinish that would take less of his time but then pitched it as less expensive. I was very clear that I wanted a finished product that looked good thus a complete refinished tub. He literally argued with me and made it seem that I was being overly picky. Turns out that I was right, they can't match paint colors exactly and the tubs were left with visible rings. Afterwards, Allen whined that my dissatisfaction was going to cost him money. Nothing was mentioned about my time and money wasted. I was lucky to have a second technician come out and redo one of the tubs in a timely manner which looked good afterwards meeting my expectations. It takes days for the tubs to set/dry so it was fortunate that it was resolved within 5 to 7 days; wasn't worth trying to haggle for the other tub. The company couldn't handle their own communication breakdowns, inefficiencies and frustrated technicians. The excuse was that the owner is a firefighter which made it seem like this is a side project. When I called to have the issue addressed, the office manager said that "they don't do partial refinishing." Once the owner got involved, he took the side of Allen and completely dismissed his company's inconsistencies and lack of quality. It was clear that my opinion didn't matter. He even dodge my calls leaving me hanging if this would be resolved. In fact, I overheard his rude comments as he vented to his technician over the phone. I had referred this company the week before and was able to retract it quickly. Really poor business practices, professionalism and service.

we were off to a rocky start but once Joe got involved every thing went great -- very efficient - good communication with Joe - looks great - all done to order - called when he said he would and showed up on time --- odor is very strong especially with allergies - plan to be somewhere else for a few days and we found rumming dehumidfier and fans - windows open helped alot --- Joe saved the day -- would definitely recommend.

Arlington Porcelain did an amazing job from start to finish. Joe came out to do the estimate. He was punctual, polite and responsive. He explained to us what was involved, timelines and other concerns. Chris who came in to do the work was a joy to work with. Upbeat, polite and a real professional, he did an excellent job and our bathroom now looks better than new. Word to the wise: the odor from the paint is very pungent and difficult to live with. It takes about a day to go away. Make sure to leave all windows open, ceiling fans on high, and make plans to sleep in another room for a night or two.

We had an old tub in a bathroom we had just remodeled. It looked shabby. We found Arlington Porcelain on Angie's List and called them. He came out shortly thereafter and gave us the quote of $425.00. He then came back about a week later to perform the work. It is amazing! The tub looks brand new. I would use them again in any similar situation.

SPECTACULAR results, one of the BEST transformative investments I've made. In 2 more days, total of 5, I will be enjoying my 1922 tub. Sans maintenance issues, commercial sponges shredded by rough surface, leading to clogged drain.
Description of Work: After checking website, spoke w/Ed who addressed my questions and concerns re: process. Concerns: possible toxicity and fumes: assured that area would be externally vented. Wanted to make sure no damage to stained woodwork, wallpaper, vintage fixtures, and the like in 90 yr. old condo and tub: informed all would be properly protected. Scheduled first availability I had two weeks later. Allen appeared punctually w/equipment. Excellent and pleasant communicator, highly skilled, and best person I've EVER seen secure an area: papered hardwood and tile floors and wall tiles, encapsulated wall shampoo dispensers, vintage medicine cabinet w/some small openings on bottom, and sink. Although Ed indicated would not remove drain, when I mentioned this to owner Joe, who called day before to confirm app't, and explained plumber had installed an easily removable new one, Joe said no problem. And there wasn't. Allen also removed drain overflow piece about which he had some questions. Removed closet access panel, at which time I remembered plumber had fixed it so we would never have flooding in unit below. He then understood what he needed to do there. Finally, he set up venting apparatus in adjacent bedroom window; removed tub caulking; shut door; sanded tub's surface, applying several coats of epoxy; cleaned the area; and said would return 3 days later to remove coverings, replace fixtures, and recaulk tub. And so he did, all of the latter AND a bit more. Also, wanted estimate for small sitz bath or Wheeler tub, usually found in spas. Allen looked at it and said unlike former cast iron porcelain tub, this was a china, as in dish, porcelain molded tub. Honestly indicated I should leave as is since it was in good condition and their equipment wasn't designed for such a piece. Asked, then, if he could removed ugly, blackened tape caulking and recaulk it. He quickly and expertly did. ANOTHER transformative act. Cleaning up the caulk provided the proper context to see the work of art it is. AMAZING! Nor did he charge me. Allen is a THOROUGHLY engaged artisan.

I called to have bath tub and shower surround refinished. I was given a quote over the phone and scheduled appointment.Alan showed up on time and called me 20 minutes in advance the day of the job to let me know he was close to location. The unit i was having work done is a rental so i am not on site.I let Alan in and he explained the work and then evaluated the bathroom tile and suggested that i do not finish the tile as it was in good condition and just do the tun considering this was a rental. How refreshing!! He actually saved me money and was honest with the approach. I appreciate that. I did not feel like company was trying to make a buck on me. Alan also gave me 2 guides on cleaning so i could keep one in the unit. Joe was scheduled a few days later to remove paper and complete the caulk on the tub. He also called the night before to confirm time and also noted that he would call when 20 minutes away from site as he knew i was not on site. Joe called in advance and arrived on time. Joe also answered my questions and concerns and offered some great professional advise. I am pleased with the service. I will have to see how the tub holds up in the rental and i am confident if any issues i can engage Joe as he stands by his work.

Arlington Porcelain Refinishing were not the least expensive but they were the only ones that didn't try to "upgrade" my request right off the bat and the only ones who actually came to my home to measure and look at the bathroom to understand what I needed. Other companies either wanted me to measure and provide measurements via phone or they just came to my home, looked at my bathroom and proceeded to offer me a more expensive solution to my problem. Arlington Porcelain Refinishing were here when they said they were going to be here and cleaned up after themselves. They even utilized an exhaust system to minimize the smell in my home. It was very effective. And were happy with the overall results.
Description of Work: Previously reglazed bathtub, shower tiled walls, and tiles walls around my bathroom were stripped of old paint, acid washed, and reglazed a stark white.

UPDATE TO ORIGINAL REPORT Once the owner of the company, Joe became aware of my problems they were all resolved between a few minutes and 1 day. He really cares about his customers and the service his company provides. I would use this company again but IF I experienced any problems would contact Joe directly and not the guy who answers the phone. I upgraded my rating to C's only because I'm rating the whole experience and not just the one with the owner. My experience with him would be A+. ORIGINAL REPORT Aggrevating experience. Poor scheduling and work order communication. 2 missed appointments. Full price not quoted up front. All service offerings not made up front. Attempted to attribute missed appt to customer error. After 4 attempts to get a receipt I still don't have one. Tub itself is nice but other work was sloppy. Where floor meets tub was not taped carefully and there is bleed over of product onto the floor. There is also product dripped on the floor. This has not been fixed dispite 2 calls. The tech left his jacket at my home and has still not picked it up.I sure hope the tub finish holds up because I have no confidence the 5 year warranty will be up held.
Description of Work: UPDATE TO ORIGINAL REPORT The owner of the company was not made aware of my problems until receiving the report below. He contacted me immediately. Resolution began within minutes and was completed the next day. He even credited the charge for the texturizing, which I was willing to pay. I have never met anyone who was so genuinely remorseful about his customer receiving unsatisfactory service. Joe puts quality workmanship and customer service as his highest priority. I would use this company again, but go right to Joe IF there was a problem. He sets the standard for what customer service should be like. I upgraded F ratings to C only because I am rating the entire experience. If I just rated my experience based on Joe's response to my problems all the C's would be A's. ORIGINAL REPORT I picked this company to refinish my tub because of over 100 A reviews. My first negative experience was with the date. I called on 5/7, I received an estimate over the phone of $375 and accepted their first available date of 5/15. On the evening of 5/7 someone called to confirm the service was going to be done the next morning 5/8. I adivised him of the 5/15 and he changed it. I don't believe this is my misunderstanding because had I been offered the 5/8 date I would have accepted it. After getting the phone estimate a friend advised me that I should have the bottom of the tub texturized to prevent slipping. When the man called on 5/7 I asked him if they also texturize and she said "yes if you want it". I asked him to add texturizing to my order. On 5/14 I got a call confirming the 5/15 service date. I asked the caller to remind the technician that I had added texturizing. He explained it can't be done the same day. The tech comes a couple of days later to caulk and texturize. The tech arrived promptly and did the work. He was polite and explained he wasn't able to give me a receipt but would email one. I told him he could just bring it when he comes back to do the texturizing. He didn't show I was to have texturizing but arranged to come back in 2 days to do it. The tech arrived promptly and did the texturizing. He then asked for a $70 payment. This is the first I ever heard of a cost for texturizing. Had I known this up front I might have chosen a different company. The tech forgot the receipt for the refinishing and again said he would email it. I have emailed him 3 times about this and still don't have a receipt. I noticed that the tech did not tape off the floor tile well and there is about 16 inches of bleed over of the refinishing product on to the floor. There were also a couple of spots where the product dripped onto the floor but not near the tub. I called and an appointment was set for 5/24. No one showed up. I called on 5/25 and the man told me I must have written it down wrong because he showed it for 5/31. I explained that I had appts set for 5/31 before I scheduled any work with him and would not have accepted that date. He set up a new date for 5/30. No one came. I still have the mess on my new tile floor and no receipt.

We originally called them regarding rust on the tub surface. When they first came out for the estimate, they recaulked our tub at no additional charge to tide us over until the refinishing work could be done. Very good experience overall. Since the work had to be done in two stages (epoxy coating - then final caulking and bathtub drain sleeve installation) there was delay in completing the job due to the drain sleeve being temporarily unavailable - but this was no fault of Arlington's. Keeping me apprised of the timing for obtaining/installing the drain sleeve would have been helpful, but was not a big deal. Would recommend Arlington and would use them again.
