J&P had the most reasonable price of all the movers I called and very good reviews. Both Bonnie, who works in the office, and Richy, who made the delivery, were very friendly and professional. They both communicated pick-up and delivery information clearly. The bed arrived in great condition right on time, and Richy took out the old bed and replaced it with the bed he delivered. I would definitely hire J&P again.

Pete came round to estimate the work for us, so we would have a more accurate estimate rather than one over the phone. He was obviously highly experienced and competent and we knew immediately we and our furniture, some of it family antiques, would be in good hands. He worked to make sure the quote was affordable for us, and when the two days of packing and moving our stuff into storage arrived my husband and father-in-law were very impressed with the skill, professionalism and sheer speed of the experienced team. Bonnie in the office has always been available when needed and overall we cannot recommend this company highly enough. Thank you so much for making it such an easy move, guys!

These guys were pleasant, friendly, and helpful from the moment I spoke to to them. Bonnie, in the office scheduled the move and went over all the details. There were no hidden charges or surpises. Rick, the head driver/mover called to tell me he was on his way and then called again when he was coming down the block. Eventhough I had obtained parking signs from the Alderman's office, no one moved their cars and there was no place for the truck. The guys were easy going and made it work on my crazy block. Rick explained that he and the other two would get started right away. They began stacking boxes and and taking off down the stairs. They had a system in place. I was amazed at how fast and efficient they were, especially since they had to walk around from the street to get to my apartment (picture the street-then make an L and go up 3 flights.) These guys were carrying 3 boxes filled with books on their backs at a time! They had to carry the box spring down the winding back porch stairs. They packed the truck in 2 hours. Once they arrived at the new apartment, they asked where I wanted everything and were patient when I couldn't decide right away. These guys set up my bed and put on the bed skirt for me before placing the mattress on. It was amazing. They were funny, friendly, efficient, and hard working. It made what can be a very stressful experience, pleasant.

The move did not happen. I was shocked that a company with such good reviews on Angie's list would behave in this manner. Until this happened I was pleased with the phone service - friendly and professional. The move was scheduled for 4:00pm; at 3:30pm I received a call that they would not be able to honor the scheduled service because the move previous to mine was taking longer than they anticipated. And they offered no remedy except for rescheduling on another day. Three different households (including mine) arranged their schedules to be avaliable for this move. Unbelievable that they would leave all of us hanging - on a Friday! J&P Moving may very well provide excellent service - WHEN THEY SHOW UP. I don't know if this type experience is to be expected in the moving world; I have not had to move for over 14 years. I find it unacceptable. I called another mover and had no problems.

The afternoon before the move, Bonnie called to confirm. Everything was on schedule and the team of 3 arrived the next day, first thing in the morning, at the exact time they said they would. Arthur led his team and they worked hard and fast. He fairly calculated break/lunch time so I wouldn't be charged. The guys were polite and dedicated. Moving is such an anxiety provoking experience but J+P movers took every ounce of anxiety out of our experience. I will definitely call them for my next move.

We selected J & P based on reviews at Angie's List and we were not disappointed. I think there's a misconception out there that moving just requires strong arms. In fact, it requires a lot of skill and the difference between good movers and bad movers is damaged property and expense. It was fairly obvious that the crew sent by J & P were well trained, skilled movers. Here are two things the cued me in to this: (1) Teamwork. Unskilled moving crews have no organization, communication or strategy. They just carry things and mill about independently. This costs valuable time and leads to trucks that are not efficiently loaded (increased likelihood of property damage). Each member of the three person crew sent by J and P, headed by Rich, had a specific job and area of expertise. The leader directed the other two and stayed mostly in the apartment getting pieces of furniture ready to move (shrink wrapping, etc.). One guy was the primary transporter. And the third guy was the loading expert - he directed the leader as to what pieces he wanted next. (2) Skill. These guys knew how to move furniture propertly: they took care not to ding walls, doors, or slide heavy furniture across wood floors. They knew not to set heavy pieces down on only two weak legs. They also had a lot of code words that helped them maneuver while carrying, which helped them avoid some of those aforementioned dings and bumps. Honestly, I don't think we had a single mark on our walls and we have a lot of heavy, solid wood pieces. Amazing! Seriously, these guys were great. They did take longer than their original estimate but only marginally, and we had a very full apartment. Our snail-slow elevator also caused a bit of a bottleneck. We did do all of the packing ourselves and transported about 80% of our boxes ahead of time. It took them about 7.5-8 hours or so to move us, including driving time. The crew did take a 45 minute lunch break (off the clock) and periodic 5 minute breaks (on the clock), but they latter didn't really bother us because the rest of the time they moved with determination and I never once felt that they were poking around. Plus it was really hot out. I'd also like to say that everyone who works there is really friendly, from the receptionist to the moving crew. Even after their long day, they lingered a bit after we paid them so that my little 3 year old girl could say hi. Really, it was a fantastic experience and I wouldn't hire anyone else if I had to move again.

They arrived 15 minutes early, and we finished early in 90 minutes.

Bonnie was very responsive and scheduled to come to the house to give an estimate within a few days of our call. 5 movers and 1 truck was estimated at $1400 for the move so we were pleasantly surprised when they finished 2.5 hours ahead of schedule and under the estimate. The move actually required 2 trips with their largest truck. The movers were professional and respectful of our belongings and pleasant to deal with on a hot day. They took just a few 5 minute breaks and a lunch break not included on our time, otherwise they were hustling all day. They dismantled and reassembled some large beds and a crib and organized and reorganized boxes and furniture in rooms. It was a surprisingly pleasant experience.

It took longer than expected and took two trips because the company contact never asked for details of our move, i.e. size of house, how many rooms, how many boxes, how much furniture. We had four movers that were efficient and did a decent job. The reason I gave a "C' for professionalism is because there was frequent bickering among the movers on the best ways to do things and how it should be done.Aside from that, they did a good job overall.

Bonnie in the office was very helpful and kind. I goofed up on getting back to her regarding confirming the move and she made it all work. The guys were polite and worked hard- a great experience during a stressful time for me.

(05/20/2010) The estimate was better than another place that we did but the style was not necessarily comparable. We are moving to a different party storage. The price was better. They gave us an estimate that we thought was too high for the hours so we had them come by to give an estimate on the amount of belongings. They were supposed to come by today but they couldn?t have anyone take a look so they took the numbers off of another company?s quote. It was helpful that they used the other place?s quote but they definitely would have been better if they had just come on by. I think we are going to use them because they agreed to our estimation of it. UPDATE (05/27/2010) The guys were great - very friendly and hard-working. Bonnie was also very helpful and easy to work with. The total came in under estimate and we were able to buy the last few boxes we needed without running out to the store. The storage facility is packed to the brim. We're looking forward to the day when J & P can come back and move everything out of storage and into our new home.

I booked the appointment with Peter. He was very helpful and able to get me the date I wanted. I used J&P 3.5 years ago so that's why I called them again. Bonnie in the office was very sweet and helpful. She called the day before to to through all the items to be moved and answered my numerous questions. She also offered me a morning time slot because there was a cancellation. We originally had the afternoon booked but the morning was what we had wanted so it worked out perfectly. The 3 guys arrived on time and were extremely cheery and friendly for 9:30 on a Saturday morning. Rich was the leader and introduced us to his crew, walked through the condo to see what all needed to be moved and then went through all the paperwork with me as the other 2 guys started prepping furniture. I have several antiques and asked them to be careful and they were very respectful of my wishes (as they were the last time they moved me). They wrapped most things in a moving pad first and then shrink wrapped. Some items that were less fragile were just shrink wrapped. They worked quickly and efficiently and had the place packed up in about 2 hours. The guys told me they would take a 30 minute lunch on the way to North Aurora and meet us at our new home by 12:30. They were a little earlier than 12:30 and then got right to work moving stuff in. Overall, they did a fabulous job. They actually made moving fun as they were friendly and joking around with my fiance and I. My ONLY complaint and the reason I gave a "B" for quality is a few areas of the white woodworked/trim by the basement door and along the stairs and wood floors in the foyer were damaged (gouged/scratched). I think it was to be expected as they had to get a heavy fridge and treadmill into the basement. They attempted to bring our 55" TV down but were very honest and said they just couldn't do it or more damage may be done. I'm grateful for that. 2 coasters from one of the bedframes had fallen off and I couldn't find them the next day. So, I left a message for Rich and on Monday one of his crew called me back and said he would personally drop the coasters off at our new house. That was really nice and appreciated. I gave them an A overall because it really was a good experience other than the handful of gouges and scratches they were a great group of guys! Thank you!

[Overall] The move went really well. I would recommend this company to others. [Price] The company charges a $90 hourly rate for 1 truck and 3 movers plus a $67.50 fee for mileage charge/travel time. The original estimate was 5 hours and the final charge was for 5.25 hours. I was pleased that the estimate was so close to the actual time. [Quality] I thought the movers were very careful with all of our furniture. Every piece was wrapped in padding and then shrink wrapped before it was carried out of the house and on to the truck. [Responsiveness] I called to reserve the movers on a Monday morning and got a call back the same day to schedule my move. I called the company again the day before my move to confirm my appointment, and everything was set as originally planned. [Punctuality] The movers were scheduled to arrive at 9:30 am and they arrived exactly at that time. The movers said they would take 30-45 minutes for lunch and they took that exact time. (Their lunch time was off the clock.) [Professionalism] The 3 movers were obviously young, but definitely experienced and knew what they were doing. I was impressed with how fast they were able to pad and shrink wrap all of the furniture, get it up and down our stairs and on to the truck. I was also impressed with how quickly they got the truck unloaded at our new house. There was definitely no lolly gagging to get more time "on the clock."

J & P Moving did a great job. From the start, working with Bonnie was a delight as she was very easy to deal with, particularly given changes I made to what was moved where. The price was quite reasonable given that items were delivered to 2 locations in Ohio, 3 locations in Chicago and will be delivered to 3 locations in Missouri. The last delivery will be done when a truck is going there, and J & P Moving is not charging any storage fee to hold those items, including a piano. Richie and his crew packed my house and delivered items to these various locations, all without damage. I would certainly recommend them and would use them again.

It went very well. Arthur, Mike and Drew shrink-wrapped and when necessary padded all furniture to be moved. They moved very quickly but were patient when furniture placement decisions needed to be made, and changed. Very nice guys, too.

I have very heavy, high quality furniture and needed a company I could trust with my things. They arrived a bit early, worked hard and fast, and every little thing arrived in perfect condition. Rich, Gene and Frank were professional, respectful, quick and careful. I couldn't have asked for a better experience. The final cost was lower than I had anticipated, so that was even better news. When we arrived at the new place, Rich took the time to place everything where I wanted, set up one of the beds, and even put the patio furniture on the balcony. I really enjoyed working with this team, it was a comfortable working relationship and I will definitely ask for them when the time comes to move again. Lastly, the experience of reserving for my specified date and time was easy and the office staff were very very caring and helpful. Thanks everyone!

They did a really good job. They charge around $30/hr for a truck fee. It is about $100 for 3 guys per hour. They are very professional and do a good job. They are very reasonable - they've moved me and a few of my clients. They make me look good. I haven't yet found anyone cheaper. The only time they weren't able to help one of my clients right away is because I gave them the wrong contact information. They are very punctual and even showed up a day early when moving someone out of state.

Everyone with this company was excellent. The office staff was cordial, professional, and responsive. The movers were fast, efficient, careful, friendly, and very STRONG!! My only complaint is that we had a 1:00 p.m. appointment, but they got their times mixed up and called at 9:30 a.m. telling me they were 5 minutes away. It worked out fine, although we ended up having to transport a lot of stuff ourselves b/c I wasn't 100% ready when they arrived. When we got to my new place, they moved everything upstairs with ease - including my sleeper sofa - while my boyfriend's movers had been struggling to get his sofa upstairs for over an hour. My movers' good work and determination definitely put a spark under his movers! All in all, my experience with this company was excellent.

Overall it went well. Moved from suburbs to city on a Friday (not a great day for a move with rush hour but I had no choice). Friendly, helpful staff. Even got a coupon (think from online). While I don't recall most of the specifics, what does stand out is that they packed and got me out quickly. Didn't try to rope me into paying a lot of money for extras, like other companies. The only thing that did concern me though was that they left before me and they took about 2 hours longer than me to get to my destination. I was told that they had to take a special route to avoid bridges that they could not clear. People at the office said that they usually stop for lunch. Perhaps a way to make the move more expensive? Yet, even with this delay, I would consider using them again for a move. But I would review the experience of others on Angie's List with other companies first. Still pleased with experience. Had it not been for delay, overall rating would be excellent. As movers, they are good.
