We had a great experience this company is very professional. I highly recommend this company. I decided to use movers at the last minute. I scheduled this move 2 day before. Bonnie said they would send four guys, and only three showed up so they lowered my moving price. It worked out perfectly they did the work of about six guys.

They broke my bench and they offered me a very low amount of money based on the contract. They deliberately left stuff behind. It took them three hours, I felt the travel time was inflated. I was overall very displeased with this company.

I'm confused about the comments made by the member. Their move was completed in the minimum amount of time and the fees(travel and rates) were outlined and agreed to before booking their move with us.

The truck was too small, even though I told them twice what the size of the unit was. The truck was full of stuff which they had to move back and forth several times. They only worked for a little over 2 hours but told me, after the fact. that there was a 3 hour minimum. They did a poor job of moving the stuff into the basement and stacked things rather haphazardly. I ended up paying almost as much for this move as I did for my move from the North side to Westchester and then the movers need to wrap all the furniture and drive 10 miles.

About 9 months ago, the Professionals moved us in to a temporary location in the South Suburbs. We were very happy with them, and tried to book them again for our latest move, but they were busy. Even though we had fewer things to move this time, J & P Moving Services gave us an estimate that was about 20% more than our previous move with The Professionals. We decided to go with J&P anyway, because it was short notice. The morning of the move, J&P Moving called us and strongly recommended a fourth mover. We knew from our previous move that a fourth mover was unnecessary, so we declined. Their breaks also seemed a bit excessive, so make sure that the amount of time they are on break matches up with the amount of time that they charge you for. The movers weren't friendly, but they weren't outright rude. They didn't break anything or damage our house.

They did not know what they were doing. It took 2/3 hours longer than it should have. They did not bring enough blankets or boxes. They gauged our newly refinished wood floors. They broke a oriental pedestal and hide it in a back room under other things that we removed. How unprofessional is that. they were throwing empty boxes and moving blankets on top of a garden on the side of the walk. I have moved many times and this was one of my worst experiences.

I read the review and attempted to reach the customer to discuss the issues they had during the move, but they haven't returned our calls. I will say that our staff moved over 250 items, many very difficult and high end including a baby grand piano in very tight quarters without any damage or problems. Our guys did place some blankets in an area next to the house while they were moving a large item into the house. They were unaware that it was a garden and after the customer let them know, they apologized and immediately picked up the blankets.

They were prompt, but their professionalism was not much. They did break a couple of items in our box. We have used many moving companies in the past, and this company did everything they were supposed to but the movers were unprofessional. They were just kind of joking around.

Pete West, his assistant Bonnie, and their entire crew were amazing. Their estimates were honest and very accurate. There weren't any surprise charges on our moving days. Pete and Bonnie knew exactly what size trucks, and how many men we'd need. Again, no surprises. The crews were wonderful. They were hard working, kind professional, clean, and careful with our belongs. The guys were even kind to our kids and animals. The crews were always moving and did not slack. They had the proper equipment (blankets, dollies, etc) to protect and move our stuff with ease.
Description of Work: J & P Moved us twice this past fall. We had our "big" move from our old house to our new house in November 2012. We had a second smaller move to move stuff out of storage after staging our house in January 2013. They also stored our things overnight so we could close on the sell one day and then close on our buy the next.

Initial phone discussions inspired us to go with them, along with their high rating on Angie's List. I called early in the morning and got one of the owners at home on his cell. This is particularly important because when you call their office during open hours they tell you all calls will be recorded. When I spoke with the owner I described the size of our house and how much stuff we had. I told him it was essentially a 2 bedroom house with an additional apartment's worth of stuff. I said this because my wife used to teach in other states and had to live out of state for 9 months at a time. Thus the additional furnishings. The day came for the move and the moving crew showed up on time and got right to work. They broke things down and packed things up. However, they told us they would not shrink wrap some items because it just wouldn't protect them. They also said not to worry about other loose items like brooms and mops and such because they would bundle those and make sure they got onto the truck. They also offered to take apart our beds and other pieces of furniture. They did not bring enough wardrobes. I had asked for 5 to 10, saying we had lots of clothes and tall items. They brought 3. They had maybe a dozen small boxes, all of which had been used before, just like the wardrobes. And we were being charged for use of all of these boxes. So I ran out to U-Haul and purchased about $300 worth of boxes. Prior to the day of the move I had already purchased over $400 of boxes and tape and such to pack everything. Then they filled up the truck and did not have room for about 1/3 of our remaining stuff. They said they would send another truck the next day for "overflow." We were charged for this even though I gave the owner a decent estimate over the phone. Very not happy about that. Then the big truck would not start and I had to jump start them. Finally they were gone. I stopped at U-Haul and purchased another $200 worth of boxes and got their early the next day and packed up everything I could. The movers arrived - only one from the previous day's crew - and began to load up boxes and everything else. We had a lot of loose stuff in the garage and we told them we would pay for them to box and wrap it, but all they did was put it on the truck, open and exposed. I had also asked them to undo an angle shelf system in the basement so it would be in two pieces and then shrink wrap it. Instead they took it completely apart and left me with hundreds of pieces of wood and screws and no instructions. But I would not find this out until they arrived at our new house a few days later and began unpacking. They looked at boxes and told me, "They're unmarked." I pointed out that any box with the U-Haul stamp of "Book Box" was full of books and should go into a specific room. But they ignored that and kept saying, "They're unmarked." We are a week into unpacking and have discovered that they missed packing a number of items, including all the "loose" things they said they would take, like brooms and mops and vacuum hoses, etc. So now we have to replace all those things. One guy asked if he could put anything together and I asked him to put together one of the beds he or his buddies took apart. He went down into the finished basement and was gone for a long time, then came back and said he didn't know where the screws or all the parts were and couldn't remember. I reminded him it was he or one of his crew who took it apart but he kept saying it wasn't him, it wasn't him. I signed the paperwork and they were gone. A few of the crew were decent, and a few did great work. But the one fellow was a complete jerk and just did not seem as though he liked his job. We were also disappointed that the owners/dispatchers did not send a big enough truck and we had to pay for what amounted to three moves instead of two. They claimed that all calls are recorded and they had not such original recording from me giving them details. I explained I reached one of the owners on his cell prior to their opening times and that they must have put me on the schedule since they called me back to set up a pick up time. There was not response to that other than, "Oh." As in, "Oh, that's right." I have moved cross country for work many, many times and have never had an experience as bad as this one. My recommendation is to avoid this company at all costs. Really lousy service. I will not ever use them again nor will I recommend them. Update: 12/10/2013 My wife and I want to give these people an "F" for their work. We want to warn anyone considering using them against doing so. Losing items with such great personal worth is completely unacceptable. They never tagged a single item. They asked us to look at the one and a half trucks full of boxes and sign a release that they had picked up, and then delivered, all our goods. How could we know without opening every single box? And when the boxes are piled up on top of each other, when the workers who were supposed to put furniture together did not, and so on... what is the alternative? J&P Moving is the worst moving experience I have ever had in my life. Yes, I will go public with this statement, answer any questions you have via email or phone, whatever it takes to give them the worst review possible.

I want to start by saying that all of the conversations are recorded for accuracy and training purposes; this is good for both parties and helps in situations like this one. We reviewed all the conversations to make sure we hadn't made any miscommunications or didn't hold up to something we promised to the member. During the initial conversation he explained he had talked to another mover and they quoted him a four man crew. I asked how many square feet his place was and how much was being moved. He said a two bedroom with an fair amount of stuff, but gave no detailed list of items to be moved. Bonnie called and left a message the day before his move to confirm his final inventory and asked if he needed any wardrobe boxes(which we also have recording) and asked for him to call back: he did not call back. The truck we sent is the standard 26' moving truck used in the industry by all moving companies. We did provide another truck to make sure everything was moved. When it comes to boxes, he never asked for any boxes, or we would have been happy to bring whatever boxes he needed as we have a full selection of boxes for sale at our warehouse, but we did happen to have a few on the truck for him to use. When the crew arrived, he said that he ordered 10 wardrobes, but we reviewed every phone conversation including the initial one with me and at no point did he ask for any wardrobe cartons. I have offered to send the recordings to the member for review and the offer still stands. We go through a great deal of verification to ensure a smooth move and take pride in making the process as smooth as possible.

truly outstanding. the moving crew (led by john) was efficient, working well as a team and going at a fast pace while being super careful about damaging anything. the team was young, strong, well equipped to handle heavy/bulky items, and clearly well trained on procedures. there was no slacking, no sloppiness. and to top it all off, the crew had fantastic positive and friendly attitudes.

I found them through Angie's List and am glad I did. Using their website to identify a majority of the bulky items that would be moved from one place to the other was extremely useful. Their estimate and the final bill were the same which is likely due to the effectiveness of the website. The 3 man team - I believe Athony and Wayne were two of the movers - was professional, efficient, courteous, and helpful. It took about 6.5 hours for the entire job to be completed and that included the travel from the city to the suburbs. There was an extra charge to use plastic wrapping but it was well worth it as our items suffered no damage during the move.
Description of Work: J&P moving services helped us move from a 3 bedroom condo in the city to a new home in the suburbs. A china cabinet, gas grill, king sized bed, and wine cooler were among the items transported flawlessly. I would recommend J&P to a friend and would be happy to use them again.

Not only did they not show up at 1pm time, they did not call. In fact, I got 2 emails from Mr. West with boilerplate, absolutely no prices Zero. In fact, I got 2 emails from Mr. West with boilerplate, absolutely no information regarding my move on it. I had to cancel a showing because of this appointment I thought I had, which conflicted with the showing. When 15 minutes passed with no mover, I called J & B and a Ms. Palumbo stated that Mr. West had sent me an email with estimated cost, but I told her repeatedly I never got it. She sent it to me while I was on the call with her. At NO time did she EVER indicate she was the least bit sorry that I never got a call from him, and no email stating he would NOT BE COMING. I would never use these people with this kind of total lack of caring and zero professionalism.

When she called for a quote, we told her that since she didn't have a moving date, we would send her an informational email with a link to update her items list for a ballpark quote and when she had a moving date, we would come do an in-home quote. She was having trouble with the link and emailed me a list of her items. I sent her the following email reply directly to the email she sent me. Pete West Feb 21 (2 days ago) Hi Member, Based on the list you provided, a ballpark estimate would be $4500-$5000. If you have a good amount of boxes, the estimate would most likely be closer to $5500-$6000. This price doesn't include any packing or a long carry(if needed) at either location. Please let us know when you have a moving date and we can take the next step in coming to your house for a complete inventory. Good luck selling the house. Thanks, Pete We also had a couple of phone conversations with her trying to help her with the link. We are happy to come to her home and do an in-home estimate, but for interstate clients we ask that they have a moving date before we come as we may or may not have availability for their move as we are approaching our busy season.

I WOULD NEVER REFER OR USE THIS MOVER,
Description of Work: ONE HOUR BEFORE SCHEDULED TIME, J&P MOVING CALLED ME TO SAY THEY WOULD BE LATE. ANOTHER LARGE MOVE WAS SCHEDULED BEFORE MINE, BUMPING MY MOVE BACK BY OVER 3 HOURS. FRIENDS OF MINE SCHEDULED TIME OFF WORK TO HELP ME, BUT NOW HAD TO CANCEL. THIS WAS ONLY THE BEGINNING OF THE PROBLEMS. MOVERS SHOWED UP 3 HOURS LATE, EXHAUSTED AND IRRITABLE. MOVERS WERE GIVEN INSTRUCTIONS OF WHAT TO MOVE AND NOT TO MOVE. ARTWORK WAS SET ASIDE TO NOT BE TOUCHED. ONE OF THE MOVERS, PILED UP EXPENSIVE FRAMED PRINTS ON A GROCERY CART AND WHEELED IT OUT - THE CUSTOM FRAMES AND MUSEUM GLASS WAS SCRATCHED BEYOND REPAIR AND REFRAMING ESTIMATES WERE OVER $3,000. J&P WOULD NOT ACCEPT RESPONSIBILITY OR ANSWER MY CALLS TO RESOLVE THIS MATTER PROFESSIONALLY. IN ADDITION, BOXES MARKED "FRAGILE" WERE STACKED ON TOP OF EACH OTHER AND HEAVY BOXES PUT ON TOP OF THEM - AS A RESULT THE CONTENTS WAS DAMAGED. A $50 STEP STOOL WAS MISSING AND NEVER RECOVERED. A WITNESSED A MOVER PICKING UP A SOLID CHERRY DRESSER BY THE KNOBS - THIS BENT THE HARDWARE AND DAMAGED THE WOOD. AN EXPENSIVE BICYCLE WAS DISASSEMBLED AND THE PARTS WERE DUMPED INTO THE GARAGE INSTEAD OF REASSEMBLING THE BIKE. BY THE TIME WE WERE HALF-WAY THROUGH EMPTYING OUT THE TRUCK, IT WAS DARK AND DIFFICULT TO SEE. MOVERS DUMPED BOXES ANYWHERE TO FINISH UP SINCE THEY WERE EXHAUSTED BY THE MOVE EARLY IN THE DAY THAT CAUSED ME TO BE LATE. STAY AWAY FROM THIS WRECKLESS AND UNPROFESSIONAL UNETHICAL MOVER!!!!!!!!!!!! UPDATE: I JUST READ THE COMPANY RESPONSE - THIS IS TOTALLY BOGUS. MOVERS WERE 3 HOURS LATE!!! NO EMAIL WAS SENT ABOUT TIME OR PACKING TIPS. THE MOVERS WERE INSTRUCTED NOT TO MOVE OR PACK ARTWORK. ONE OF THE MOVERS USED ONE OF THE SHOPPING CARTS PROVIDED TO TENANTS OF THE BUILDING TO MOVE THE ART AGAINST MY SPECIFIC INSTRUCTION. MYSELF AND FRIENDS WITNESS THE MOVER USING THE SHOPPING CART AND THE MOVER LIFTING THE HEAVY DRESSER BY THE KNOBS. THE DRESSER WAS NOT CARRIED - IT WAS LIFTED TO MOVE AGAINST THE WALL. J&P MOVERS ARE LIARS AND CHEATERS. DO NOT USE THIS MOVER!!!!

We did, in-fact, call her the day of the move and advise of her our arrival time as we do with all customers. We were not late, as we clearly state to all of our afternoon clients that we simply cannot guarantee an arrival time due to the nature of our business. We also send out an email prior to the move with helpful tips regarding how items should be prepared for moving; we do this so people don't assume that we can take unpacked breakables on our truck. The crew offered to pack the various unpacked items, but she simply refused saying she was on a budget and wasn't interested in having her artwork packed. With regards to a shopping cart, our guys don't have any such things on our trucks. As far as one of our staff members attempting to lift a 300 pound dresser by the handles, that simple would never happen. We blanket wrap all items and the pad would have covered any hardware on the dresser, so we would never attempt to carry a dresser by its handles.

I apologize that it has been 14 months since the move, so I don't remember some details, including exactly what we paid. What I do remember, however, is that the team was really great! Communication was good from the start, estimate was just what we paid. The movers worked quickly and professionally and were very kind when we mistakenly told them some things needed to go in the basement when they needed to go on the second floor and vice versa. They moved several things multiple times for us without complaint. They worked until 10:00 at night to get it all done, even when they had a 2 1/2 hr drive back to the company facility. Would definitely hire them again - good company!
