IT WAS AMAZING, THE BEST PRICING, AND VERY PROFESSIONAL!!! They were better than expected and everything was moved in perfect condition! They all had a very caring attitude toward the way I wanted things moved and the items should go in my new house.

I called to get a quote to move my furniture to another location, and the quote was high. So I found another company to do it and I called them to tell them that, and they are attempting to charge me 3 hours of labor to move my furniture from the storage vault to the truck.
Description of Work: They did my move, which turned out fine. I had stored 5 pieces of furniture with them in their storage area.

Response from J & P Moving Service, Inc.
During this clients, and all clients, initial booking of storage into our warehouse, we explain that only our staff can move their belongings into, or out of our warehouse. This is done for several, obvious reasons, such as our insurance will not cover "non-employees" that may get hurt in our facility and we owe our storage customers the piece of mind that we don't allow the general public into a private warehouse. When we explained this to the member, he threatened to extort us by saying "if we don't do their move for $610.00 they will post negative reviews on Angiels List, BBB, and every other website." We advised him that his attempt to extort us is illegal and should be a violation of Angie's List membership. We feel we do our very best to be as upfront with all customers and our contract also clearly states the terms of the storage and the fees associated with having our staff remove the times from storage.

I had used J&P Moving before and was very happy with everything about the previous move so I called them and requested a quote for an interstate move. Bonnie called me back and over the course of the next few weeks we exchanged emails and telephone calls to ensure everything was accounted for. Since J&P moved me into my second floor condo less than two years previous, they were okay with me providing a list of what was going to be moved. On the day of the move, J&P arrived on-time with three movers. I pointed out all the items that needed to be moved and (per HOA rules) how we could move it all to the truck (also previously discussed with Bonnie before hand). My condo unit was located on the second floor and they carefully and judiciously wrapped furniture and moved all the items from my unit onto the truck in about a little over an hour. Once everything was loaded and ready to go, we went over the delivery address and I made sure the GPS unit J&P was using was able to find my new address. Unfortunately the GPS unit did not bring up my address. However one of the mover's cellular telephones was able to find the delivery address and provide accurate directions. The mover's left my condo unit and met me at my new home in about two-hours (straight drive with no stops). They took approximately an hour to unload, unwrap my furniture, place my furniture in the exact place I requested, and assemble my bed frame! I would use J&P Moving again. Their staff and movers are professional, courteous, and they know what they are doing!

Bonnie was excellent in planning, and preparing us for the move. Although I asked for a rather fast turn around time, Bonnie was professional, answered all of my questions, provided additional contacts for crating and other needs required that JP Moving did not provide (we also needed a pool table broken down). Everything worked out perfectly. The movers were on time, very nice guys. They packed everything effectively, no major issues, we had a glass door that was broken, however, that was the ONLY issue and there were many fragile items, and there were MANY heavy items as well. They guys were swift and efficient. I would never say moving was easy, however, JP Moving made this move that was both local and out of state painless! They are a JOY to do business with, I will indeed refer them to my family and friends and I told them that I would post a GLOWING review about their excellent customer service. Today it is quite difficult to find companies that do exactly what they promise, I was not disappointed; I will surely use them again when necessary! Great find on Angie's List!! Five stars!!

This will most certainly be the moving company that I would recommend. My first interaction with them started with my call to their office. I was comparing price and what I could tell of quality via a phone call. At this point, I talked with Bonnie who was extremely responsive and professional. Her willingness to thoroughly walk me through their services and pricing was extremely appreciated. In fact, her professionalism is likely the reason that I decided to go with J & P the first time. When it was moving day, the movers showed up on time, were very friendly and respectful, worked very hard, were very careful with my possessions, and took good care of my house. I have moved several times in my life. These guys were the most professional of all. Ultimately, these things were delivered in excellent condition to Ohio. The second service that they provided was somewhat interesting. I was tempted with a lower priced mover. When I saw how this lower cost mover was handling my possessions, I switched mid stream and decided to pay a little more for a much higher quality service. Without going into detail, Bonnie and J & P movers pulled through for me in a pinch when I had to get my possessions re-packed and delivered to Ohio. I was pulling a U-Haul trailer full of things and brought it to their facility. When I couldn't back up the trailer, one of their drivers helped me out. The same guy who backed up my trailer stayed late to re-pack my possessions. He called me to let me know that he took care of everything. I was both appreciative that he did the work and even more appreciative that he called to let me know that everything was in order. I was a little anxious given the experience with the other company. Ultimately, everything was delivered as promised. The morale of the story for me is that you get what you pay for. J & P was neither the cheapest nor the most expensive. If you go with the cheapest company, you will not be happy. I would recommend J & P to anyone. I interacted with four people from that company and they were all 100% on their game and did an outstanding job.
Description of Work: I actually used them twice. The total for both moves was about $5,000. In one case, they came to the house, packed several rooms, and moved it from Illinois to Ohio. The second time, I brought some things to them of which they packed and shipped from Illinois to Ohio.

Thursday AM they moved him out of his ap. We went to Walgreens that day and to pick up my pain meds from a recent surgery. I shoved them in a drawer so they were out of site. I went on to a doctors appointment and they convinced my fiancee to go pick up cheeseburgers for them which was a good half hour round trip so they were left alone in the house. Later, I discovered that 52 of my pain pills were missing. It wasn't necessary for them to put anything in the kitchen, but when I came home from my appointment, there were two giant boxes in front the drawer with my medication in it. They stated that they needed to go back to my fiancee's apartment to clean out the garage, because they couldn't fit that stuff in the truck originally. There were two giant bean bag chairs/couches that we couldn't find so we went back to his garage and found everything was still in the garage! They didn't move anything from the garage, except for a chandelier. We couldn't hire another moving company because of a really short time line so we had to just throw away the bean bags and other items in the garage because we couldn't physically move them ourselves. My fiancee owns a lot of antique furniture and we requested that they use moving blankets (that we own) to protect the furniture. They didn't use the moving blankets and they placed the chandelier on an antique desk and left 3 giant gouges in it! The chandelier, which costs $4000, was broken when the garage door was closed. Two light prongs were cracked and the pieces from that damage were on the garage floor. They were also given specific instructions about how to place the fish tank and they did not do it the correct way. We will have to hire someone to place the fish tank correctly because of the way the fish tank is designed, it can't be filled the way they placed it.

I will start by saying this review was not filled out by the customer or an Angie's List member. The customer filled out a survey from Angie's List with all A's and a glowing review. We have tried several times to reach the member and his fiancé to discuss these serious allegations made against our company. We are seeking to get a copy of the RX bottle so we can verify the date, number of pills and have it tested for finger prints. Our guys are all willing to take a polygraph test and we reached out to tell to encourage them to fill a police report so we can get our name cleared. I will add that she was the one who asked her fiancé' to go get lunch since the guys were working so hard. She was present the entire time he was gone getting lunch. When it came time to move the items in the garage, there were two moldy bean bag chairs and after our staff pointed out the mold, the member advised them to leave them so he could get rid of them. We did move chandelier, but advised him that it really should be crated for safe transport. He said he didn't want to pay the additional cost to crate it and wasn't worried if anything happened to it, so our guys moved it and it made it without incident.

I contacted these guys because they were highly rated on Angie's List. An obvious mistake. They quoted me $145 an hour plus $140 for driving time to Naperville. Of course I didn't realize that I was going to be charged the $145 AND the $141 during that hour's driving time! Arguing afterwards got me nowhere. They were 1 hour late because their truck broke down. My apartment in Chicago required a 4 hour window for the freight elevator so I was a bit concerned about the delay. When they called me about the delay, they were only a short distance from my apt but had to wait for a replacement truck. I had to tell them to send 2 of the guys to my apt in a taxi and let the other guy wait for the replacement truck......like, duh! When they showed up, I gave them 2 mattress bags for my bed and 2 sofa covers for my sectional. They told me they did not need them because I had also paid for shrink wrap and I should take them back for refunds. OK, cool. I work across the street from my apt so I went back to my office for a couple hours. When I came back, they were just about done and loaded up. I had my girlfriend meet them in Naperville at the Storage unit so I did not see my stuff in storage until 4 days later. When I opened up the storag unit, I was shocked. They had used no shrink-wrap, even though I had paid for it. My leather sectional sofa was just stacked in the unit with all my other stuff......unprotected. LEATHER!! My checking account was hit for the cost of the move twice. I called and brought this to their attention and was told....."Oh, that wasn't us....that must have been the company we use to process the charges". So my account was hit double for a $900 charge. With all the security breaches at companies where I use my debit card, I had un-linked my checking account from my savings account. So I had no overdraft protection. This caused a schedule wire transfer to fail as a result. Both the company and my bank told me that these things usually take about a week to credit back. That's about right......I got the credit back, but was out the funds for about a week. I did a lot of work preparing for this move. There is no way it should have taken them 5 hours, especially since they were merely putting my stuff into a drive-up storage unit (Public Storage) that was twice the size needed. They did not have to take the furniture into a house and there were very few heavy pieces. They overcharged, did not do what they told me they would do, they were late, and they 'accidentally' charged me twice. No......I would not recommend this service.

When we give estimates, we include the time it will take load the truck, transport the goods from one location to another, and unload the truck, as this is part of the every moving service. The travel charge covers the truck, fuel, mileage and equipment and is a one-time fee and is explained very specifically. Some companies charge from the time they leave their terminal until the time the return to the terminal, which can be several hundred dollars. The only reason we did not wrap the leather couches is because it is not recommended, as his storage unit was not climate controlled and moisture could develop due to temperature changes within the unit. With regards to him implying that we tried to run his card twice, this in simply not true. The credit card, when processed, held the funds and then processed the funds, we did not do anything abnormal or improper. We explained this to him and offered to have him speak with the credit card processing company to verify that his card was only run once and explain how the transaction process works.

First, let me say that their cost was considerably less than another competitor who was going to pass our load to a Nationwide mover. They handled the entire job themselves. The move went really well. It took a day and a half to load and four days later our load arrived in Ohio. The guys were great to deal with and worked incredibly hard. They went above and beyond helping us as we're older and both have bad backs. There were only a couple little issues - a broken light bulb and some misplaced hardware. The hardware problem can be remedied if we don't find them as we unpack. We've moved a number of times, and this was the move uneventful move so far. I would recommend them and certainly would use them again if I were moving in their normal service area. We're happy with our move and our new home!

This was my fifth move in 15 years, and J&P Moving Services was by far the worst mover I?ve ever used. The attitudesof two of the three crew members were completely unprofessional?both of them were sulky and scornful. Only the third crew member was pleasant and helpful. The Crew Chief seemed seriously disgruntled about having to move my refrigerator, washer and dryer from a 3 bedroom ranch house to a second-story condominium, and then remove the old refrigerator, washer and dryer from the condominium and put them in the garage so that they could be hauled away by The Salvation Army. I had informed Bonnie, in the office, of these arrangements in advance and they were on the work order, yet Crew Chief was obviously very put out about it. I had seen to it that the washers and dryers were disconnected, but I didn?t unplug the refrigerators because I couldn?t move them out far enough to get to the plugs. This failure on my part further perturbed Crew Chief. With rolling eyes and a disgusted grimace, he informed me that this would cause the refrigerator to sweat, and that the water might drip onto the other stuff in the truck. This was likely true, but instead of politely explaining it, he talked to me like I was an aggravating six-year-old who had disobeyed the rules. The packing up of the old house went reasonably well. The men worked quickly and seemed to know what they were doing. But I had to ask them three times to put a floor lamp on the truck, because I didn?t want to haul it myself in my small car. They finally did it, though grudgingly. They also left two table lamps for me to haul away, although, mysteriously, they put two other table lamps of approximately the same size on the truck. I never figured out the reason for that. Given their snotty attitudes, I was afraid to ask! When we arrived at the new place, I found that my landlord had arranged to have an HVAC contractor install a new furnace and A/C system that morning. Admittedly, this was inconvenient for the moving crew and caused a minor delay. It also caused the moods of the Crew Chief and his surly cohort to deteriorate even further, and they were obviously ticked off that the condominium was on the second floor and they had to carry everything up a flight of stairs. I don?t have an extraordinary amount of furniture, but I do have a very heavy, solid oak dresser. I was told by Bonnie that I did not need to empty any dresser drawers, so I didn?t. But as they were carrying the dresser up the stairs I heard Surly Guy mutter, ?Ya think if they know this thing is so heavy, that they would empty the drawers!? Okay, first off, no matter how peeved he might have been about the weight of the dresser, this is not something a professional mover says within hearing of a customer. (Isn?t moving heavy furniture part of his job?!?) Secondly, I never emptied the drawers of that dresser in my previous moves, and none of the other movers ever complained about it?not even the crew that had to carry it up three flights of stairs in 98 degree heat! But this guy?s remark was typical of the discourteous, contemptuous attitude I was getting from him and the Crew Chief all through the move. They both behaved like they were doing me an enormous favor by moving my junk for me The worst example came when it was time to remove the old washer from the laundry room of the condominium. Surly Guy told me they couldn?t get it through the door with the hoses still attached. I found this puzzling since it seemed to me all they had to do was drape the hoses over the top of the washer to get it out. When Surly Guy told Crew Chief that he needed tools to remove the hoses, Crew Chief said, ?I was told the washer was disconnected.? (It had been). He then continued, ?If it?s not, f?k ?em! Leave it. Let ?em get it out themselves!? Evidently, he thought I was deaf, since he made no attempt to keep his voice down. I informed him they could just cut the hoses if they needed to, although I still couldn?t figure out what the problem was. Actually, I don?t think there was a problem, because they managed to get the washer out of the laundry room pretty quickly after that display of profanity. But no matter what problem there may have been with the hoses, there is no excuse for showing such disrespect toward a paying customer, or--for that matter--toward anyone. It was appalling. Thankfully, they finished up in a reasonable amount of time. The profanity-spewing Crew Chief then sat down at the dining room table to go over the final paperwork with me, while Surly Guy and the other, polite crew member stood by. He handed me an Angie?s List evaluation form to complete, right there in front of them. Talk about intimidation! (BTW, I have never received one of these forms from any other Angie?s List provider, and have since been informed by a rep from Angie?s List that this is not standard protocol.) After being sworn at, complained about and treated with contempt for four hours, I was in no mood to give that crew a glowing recommendation. But it?s kind of difficult to do otherwise when three burly guys are hovering around, staring you down. So I scribbled some lies on the form, and gave it back to Crew Chief. I was then presented with the bill. The charges were reasonable, but then Crew Chief told me that any tip could be added on top of that. I was speechless for a moment. In all my moves, I have never had it suggested to me that I should add a tip. If the crew was good, I CHOSE to tip them. But this crew was not good. I might have given a tip to the one helpful, courteous guy, but neither Crew Chief or Surly Guy deserved a dime as a tip. I am ashamed to admit, however, that by this time I was so tired, disgusted and, yes, intimidated that I did add a tip for all three of them. I felt like I was extorted, but I wanted so badly to get them out of my house, that I just went along with it. The next day, I discovered that they?d broken my ironing board during the move, and that I was missing an outdoor, anti-gravity lounge chair. So the following Monday, I called Bonnie in the office to report the damage and the lost chair. I also expressed my displeasure with the crew, describing their language and poor attitude. Bonnie apologized and told me she would discuss the matter with her manager. A few days passed and I didn?t hear anything, so I called back. I was then referred to someone else in the office who processes the claims. She instructed me to complete a form estimating the cost of the items damaged/lost. I paid about $100 for that lounge chair, but since that was a year ago, I wrote a value of $75 on the form, factoring in depreciation. After my claim had been reviewed, I was informed they would reimburse me $15 for the ironing board (okay, fine) and $39.99 for the chair. That is nowhere near what it would cost to replace the chair with a comparable model. What?s more, before I could get even that inadequate amount, I would be required to sign a release stating that I agreed to ?refrain from posting any future negative reviews or remarks in writing, via the internet, or with the BBB . . .? I declined to sign the form, not only because I feel that $39.99 is insufficient recompense for the chair, (to say nothing of the intimidation and profanity I was subjected to by their employees), but also because I don?t want to be blackmailed. I understand now why there are so few negative reviews of J&P Moving Services on this site?other customers were coerced into signing that form and kept quiet about their experiences just to get the compensation they deserved. Movers have a tough job. I know that. It?s a brutal profession. I wouldn?t want to do it. But just because those two crew members are unhappy in their work, did they have to take it out on me? My dealings with J&P Moving Services were a miserable and degrading experience. I strongly discourage anyone from using them.

Our staff is trained to handle all situations as professionally as possible and we take great pride in making sure each customer is completely satisfied. I'm sorry this member doesn't feel her move was handled as well as she expected. As to the form that the member stated was not Angie's list form, I am sorry, but I have to respectfully disagree, as the form was sent directly to our office from our Angie's List account manager Scott. They provide this form as an additional tool to enable service providers get as much feedback as possible. We have been using this form for over two years and appreciate any and all feedback from our clients. We understand some people may choose to fill out the form or opt to provide feedback online, but we value each customers feedback and try our best to offer the most convenient ways to gather feedback.

The movers worked hard moving all of our furniture and boxes in the heat. They were professional and performed as expected. Only negative is that scheduling promised five wardrobe boxes for free, which never came and caused us to scramble and throw out hanging clothes in the truck the day of the move.

Best moving crew I have ever worked with, they went above and beyond to accommodate all of our over sized furniture into a new place that wasn't made for furniture so large. They were extremely careful and respectful of the new paint and floors.

The customer service person was courteous and communicative she called and emailed right as she promised. Movers were on time, very efficient, neat and courteous. The job was complete in time they estimated and at the cost they estimated. A pleasure to work with! Would definitely use again and recommend.
