After reviewing the service that was provided to your location, in our electricians findings were the following There were overloaded circuits in bedroom, hall and main house area. The home had aluminum wiring thru out the home, and high loaded electronics in the living room. Also it was mentioned to our electrician that Alpha Electric was out 2 weeks prior and replaced 1 outlet but it didn’t fix the problem. All this information was disclosed to your landlord and 7 different options were presented to her, she choose the option that she felt was in your best interest and the best interest for her rental home and her budget. From finding them on Angies list. To setting up an appointment online(great by the way). They called the next day. Confirmed the problem and set the appointment date and time. Called the day before and when the Electrician was 15 minutes away. Joe arrived ontime and smiling. He put on shoe covers before entering our house. He listened to my problem and what I thought it might be. He was quick, knowledgeable, and confident. Explained everything he was doing and why. Nothing showy and nothing unnecessary. Joe then proceded to check the circuit breakers, and Main power box. Gave me the home inspection. All this is included in the price. Definatley going to have them the next time we have anything electrical done!

We called Mainstream, explained the problems, and they sent Todd out. He gave us an estimate, we accepted and he did the work. Service was quick and excellent. We were very pleased with the upgrades he recommended, the GFCI outlets in the kitchen and the three way switch for the basement lights. We'll definitely call Mainstream again.
Description of Work: We had two problems: a wall circuit in the kitchen which didn't work and a basement light switch that which controls light over the stairs which didn't work. The work in the kitchen included two new GFCI outlets and a new fluorescent light fixture over the cooktop and counter. The basement required rewiring and installation of three new light fixtures and two 3 way switches.

We called Mainstream Electric to come evaluate our finished basement to see if it was possible to install a 20 amp circuit and outlet, which we needed for a new commercial grade treadmill we had recently purchased. We called Mainstream because of their high ratings on Angie's List, and mentioned this at the time we made the appointment. The technician did run later than had planned, due to his previous appointment, but the office called to ask if they could push the appointment back. The electrician performed a walk through and said it would require running an outside electrical line to the basement, as it would be too difficult to fish the circuit through the walls. He initially wrote an estimate for that job, costing about $1400. This seemed much higher than we had anticipated. My husband than got home and asked more questions to ensure all options had been considered. On further examination of the unfinished portion of our basement, the technician discovered a spare line that could be used to install the circuit, without going outside. He had to crawl up through our duct system, but he did a great job locating the outlet just where we needed it. Our cost for this job, including a 10% discount for the Angie's List referral, was $989.33. So, the extra time it took to consider other options was well worth it, and the technician was very willing to spend the extra time with us to explore/discover other options. After the work was completed, the Mainstream Electric office followed up with an evaluation. I said the work was excellent, but it seemed more expensive than we thought. They took my feedback seriously and reevaluated the case. The technician had also forgotten to give me my 10% discount (and I had forgotten to ask at the time of payment, though I had mentioned it at the time of the appointment). They graciously refunded the discount, and reminded me to present that referral discount at the time of payment. When the inspector came, he was very complimentary of Mainstream Electric's work and said overall, they were a quality outfit. That is an unbiased, valuable assessment! Overall, I was very pleased with Mainstream Electric and would recommend them. They took my feedback seriously and followed up in a very personal and customer centered way. The technician was very polite, clean, and considerate of our home as he worked. I will use them again for future electrical needs.

We had wanted them to replace some dimmer light switches in our house as well as check transformers in flourescent lights in our garage and also check a light (security) outside of the main garage. The first two appointments that we scheduled with Mainstream were cancelled and delayed because they were running very very late. We set up a 3rd. appointment with them for a Saturday and they did waive the normal $49.95 fee to just come out because of the other cancellations. When the gentlemen looked at the switches he made a big deal of figuring out how much it would cost to replace each one, we needed 3 and gave us a price of $109.00 per switch! We thought this was extremely expensive for the job. Every price he gave us was high and he wanted $235 to "try and diagnose" what was wrong with a halogen under counter light we have, that wasn't to "fix" it but just to try and figure out what he thought might be wrong with it! Because my husband didn't want him to have a completely wasted trip, he asked the electrician to replace some flourescent bulbs in our garage. When the electrician went to replace one of the bulbs the entire fixture arked and he just left us with it that way, although it seemed to us it could be a fire hazard. He didn't even attempt to fix it! We felt that this was unprofessional and bad business. When the office called us a couple of days later to follow up on the service call both my husband and myself told them of our experience and when looking at the invoice after the electrician left, we realized that the prices were already preprinted on the invoice and the guy could have just told us upfront without making such a big deal of "figuring" out costs. The person that my husband spoke with said they would talk to the manager/boss to see what they could do and she would call us back, that was two days ago and we have never heard back from them again! We will not recommend Mainstream Electric to anyone for these reasons and also found them to be extremely expensive! Now we have to call another electrician to fix these issues and so we can once again use our garage lights without worrying about a fire! Also when I originally called to set up the appointment I specifically asked if there was a travel charge and was told no there wasn't, just a $49.95 charge to come out. When we paid for the service and looked at the invoice sure enough there is indeed a travel/fuel charge. It wasn't overly expensive but they gave me wrong and misinformation initially. UPDATE; 10/1/12 MAINSTREAM DID CALL US BACK A FEW DAYS LATER AND SENT OUT ANOTHER ELECTRICIAN TO LOOK AT THE PROBLEM TO SEE IF IT WAS THEIR FAULT. THE ELECTRICIAN REPLACED DAMAGED FIXTURE AND PUT IN NEW BULBS AT NO CHARGE. THEY ALSO CALLED THE NEXT DAY TO SEE IF WE WERE SATISFIED WITH THE WORK DONE. WE FEEL THAT THEY DID CORRECT THE INITIAL PROBLEM AND DO APPRECIATE THAT.****

It was fantastic and they were really very good. They came in, did their thing, gave us a quote straight off, did all the work thoroughly and cleaned up everything afterwards. They were really really good. They are expensive but you get what you pay for. It cost more than what I expected. I had a another quote that was lot cheaper but I expected this to be similar but Mainstream were very good at what they worked at so it was fair as they did a good job.

Corrine was great she got Cory and Tracy out the next day. After getting a bid and my decision to proceed they started right a way. As they only had part of the afternoon, they finished the job on very next day. They left the job site cleaner than it had been. They did an excellent job, we're conscientious about every detail. They guarantee their work for ten years. I will use them again in the future. Over all I was very satisfied.

The office staff was very friendly and expert in coordinating the repair and explaining how they operate. Don arrived on schedule and laid out a detailed repair option and price quote. I had another job I wanted him to look at, and he then gave me the add ons to complete that job.He was very clean, professional, and knowledgable. Gave me a number of electrical tips that I wasn't aware of. Very impressed with his knowledge and quality of work. Don even came to the door carrying his own shoe covers! It's a little expensive, but well worth the money for what you get. I will use them in the future and recommend them to my friends and neighbors.
Description of Work: We had a kitchen light that was flickering. He correctly diagnosed a bad fixture and replaced it for around $220. I also had a dead hard-wired smoke detector. He replaced that for $109. I also received 10% off the total with an Angie's List coupon. They charge $59 flat fee per service call.

My house insurance covered it, but they were expensive. I liked that they were prompt and came when they were supposed to come. The work performed was very well done and there were no complaints about them. The thing I did not like about them was that it was difficult to judge the price, as I didn’t get any competing estimates, because there was no power and it was snowing. The cost seemed expensive and they seemed to pressure me into wanting to finance the cost of a service through them, which I didn’t like. However, they ended up co-operating with my insurance company and were willing to wait for payment until I was reimbursed by the insurance company. I may not use their services in future.

You certainly reiterated our high standards regarding your service call. Mainstream Electric schedules appts in 2-hr windows of time, so you did not have to wait around all day for us! In addition, we called 20 minutes prior to your electrician’s arrival, so you knew who was on the way and exactly when to expect your technician. These courtesies do tie in with professionalism, and again, appreciate your recognition of our promptness and that we arrived when we said we would. In fact, I’d also like to mention that you called Mainstream Electric on a Sunday, and we answered (yes, a live person; not an answering service) ready to perform your service call that day! However, you opted out on an emergency service and were scheduled right away on Monday morning. After all, as you stated in your review, you were without power on over the weekend, and it was snowing! You also stated, “The work performed was very well done and there were no complaints about them.” Again, very complimentary regarding a professional installation; thank you. Mainstream Electric only installs superior electrical products and maintains high standards regarding the installation of your service mast, weather head, ground rods, and meter. Mainstream Electric also pulled an electrical permit on this job. Electrical inspectors hold Mainstream Electric (& other contractors in our area) to a code minimum requirement and hold us accountable to the National Electrical Code standard; this all has to do with safety. Your job was inspected and passed. “The thing I did not like about them was that it was difficult to judge the price, as I didn’t get any competing estimates, because there was no power and it was snowing. The cost seemed expensive….” Next, I’d like to address your quoted comment. Simply put, like with anything …. you get what you pay for! You already stated that we were prompt, arrived when we said we would, the work was very well done, and there were no complaints about that … all while it was snowing, and you had no power! Again, we were prompt, arrived when we said we would, the work was very well done, there were no complaints about that, you got power back while it was snowing, and Mainstream Electric waited for payment from the insurance company. And … you may not use us again in the future?? After the completion of every service call, our office calls each client and performs what we call a “happy check.” The documentation in our software shows that I personally called your to “happy check” but had to leave a message. The verbage for this “happy check” is something like this: Hi. This is Elaine with Mainstream Electric. I am calling to make sure that our electrician provided outstanding service when he was out. We also want to make sure that you are 100% satisfied with our service. Thank you for your business, and please don’t hesitate to call if you have further questions, comments, or concerns. We, at Mainstream Electric, invite and desire open communication and/or feedback regarding your service experience. It is certainly disappointing to read of your dissatisfaction online nearly 4 years later, especially because our prompt “happy check” message was an invitation to communicate. I don’t remember exactly how much it cost but I think it was around $150 because when I purchased the heater itself, it had to have a thermostat put on it that I wasn’t aware of, so they had to provide that for me. I have used them before and they are fine. I don’t know how they compare expense-wise with other electricians. It is hard to grade them on price because I can get multiple estimates, so I would give them a ‘B’. I would use them again in the future.

I purchased the services of Mainstream Electric as a housewarming gift for a friend. Both the exceptionally friendly office personnel and the technician on site were very cooperative in keeping the costs down. The electrician contacted me by phone from his van after he had looked over the wiring problems he would be dealing with, and advised which were the most urgent. He performed the wiring we agreed upon quickly and professionally. My friend was very impressed both with the finished work, and with the courtesy of the electrician. The company does charge a fee to examine the site and give the estimate, but this is a one-time fee. If you have them back to the site for further work, there is no additional charge other than for work and parts. All together, I'm very pleased with Mainstream Electric, and will use them again if need be.
Description of Work: Replaced a GFI in the bathroom. The original outlet was awkwardly placed, making plugging in appliances difficult or impossible. In addition, the GFI feature had failed and was wired incorrectly so that power continued to the outlet when it should have failed, a real safety hazard. The technician also inspected several other areas of concern, such as assuring that grounded outlets were truly grounded, and inspecting the wiring that had been done for an air conditioner. He recommended several inexpensive and safe temporary fixes for some problem areas.

I decided not to proceed with the appointment after hearing that they have a policy of charging $49 for getting an estimate if you decide not to have them do the work. As a matter of principle I will not pay for an estimate. I may very well have been happy with the estimate and had them do the work, but giving an estimate is a cost of doing business. If a business is confident that their estimates are reasonable and fair, they should expect to get the job. If they aren't getting the job after giving the estimate, then they should examine their pricing, etc. They do say that all their electricians have passed a criminal background check and are subject to random UA's to ensure they are drug-free - I give them credit for that.
Description of Work: I contacted Mainstream after seeing some positive reviews on Angie's List. I needed to have the location of two ceiling fans switched.

They did a real good job. They were expensive, but they did a good job. They were on time.

I received 2 bids prior to hiring Mainstream. The other electricians told us we were "opening a can of worms" by messing with our nob and tube wiring. The told us they would have to open up walls all over our house and they would not do any wall repairs (our walls are lath and plaster so I knew the mess this could become). Mainstreams quote was less than the other guys, and they said they would not have to damage the walls. They came out, they did the job, and only had to drill one 4" diameter hole in a wall, and otherwise were able to rewire most of the upstairs without any damage. The cleaned up after themselves every day and they have a policy of working until the job is done, so they worked until 9:00 at night on two of the days (with our approval) and completed a pretty extensive job in 3 days. 3 electricians worked at our house over the course of the project (usually all at the same time) and they were all courteous, professional and as clean as possible. One night when they were there until after 9 the insisted on thoroughly vacuuming before they left. The job was completed on budget and turned out great. Update: We hired Mainstream again for the installation of a whole house fan (which is fantastic) and a kitchen remodel in the summer of 2010. We received the same great service, project completed in a timely manner, they had figured in all possible overages we might run into due to the age of our house and came in well under budget. They are an excellent company to work with.
Description of Work: Rewiring second floor of 100 year old house. Adding 3 light fixtures including one outdoor light. Converting pull chain lights to switched. Adding outlets and rewiring existing outlets. -Install of Whole house Fan -Wiring for outdoor lights and complete kitchen remodel
