+ 0 moreRay and his son could not have been better. My husband was the one who was there while the work was done and he came home with a glowing report. He was impressed with the quality of the water heaters Ray provided and with Ray's knowledge and skill. He also said Ray was just a likable guy and enjoyable to talk to. My husband usually installs faucets himself, but since Ray was scheduled to be there, we asked him to do it. We were so glad we did. The previous homeowner had done some pretty creative configuration under the sink in his do-it-yourself faucet installation and even Ray had his work cut out for him getting things properly aligned and getting the new one in. My husband thought that might have taken more of Ray's time than installing the two new water heaters did! Ray also was able to instantly diagnose and repair the master bathtub drain that had been leaking into the crawlspace. After all was said and done, Ray charged us exactly what he promised for the water heaters (which was a bit less than Sears would have been) and only $90 extra for installing the faucet and fixing the tub drain, even though the faucet was a time consuming pain. We would absolutely have Ray back and asked for a stack of business cards to give our friends and neighbors.
Description of Work: Provided and installed 2 new propane hot water heaters, installed kitchen faucet and repaired leaking tub drain.

+ -1 moreFirst Choice answered the phone promptly when I called. They came out the next day, and arrived on time. They were friendly, helpful and professional. I was delighted with their work, and the price seemed fair. I will use them again as my "first choice" for all my plumbing needs.
Description of Work: First Choice replaced a broken frost free faucet. More specifically, I called First Choice, told them that one of my frost free faucets was broken, and could they fix it. Ray suggested I consider buying a new one since the repair kit was almost as much. I agreed since the original was really old and beaten up. I did dig up the frost free myself prior to their arrival. The installation was time-consuming because it took a long time for the line to drain. It was a bit complicated because the frost free line abutted a well line, it's electrical wiring and an irrigation line. Ray was careful not to disturb these other fixtures. I now have a fully functioning, nice looking frost free thanks to First Choice.

Description of Work: HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE. They came out to fix a leak under house. fixed a split hose bib and were to come up with an estimate for leaking pipe under the house. They never called back. over the space of several weeks I called them to get estimate, arrange time for work to be done. |The first time I called they apologized for not getting back, said they'd been swamped.Would get estimate to me in next few days. They never contacted me again despite several calls and msgs. to them. |On the last msg. I told them it was clear they weren't planning to do the work (this may have been about 2 months later) and I needed my pipes fixed, I had already paid them for the house call, and would be calling another company. I asked them to please just leave me a msg. for the type of work needed, or to mail me copy of any informal notes so when I called a new plumber I wouldn't be paying them again to start from ground zero and evaluate problem I had already paid First Choice to come and evaluate. I never got a call to apologize, never received the requested info. Had to pay twice for next house call from company that had to re-evaluate situation and actually did the work as promised. |When I read Angie reviews, one said they were OK, another said they did a good job but never followed through, took a long time, never returned calls. I should have listened. |I think they grab quick easy work, get their money, but just don't follow through after they get some money from you. I called them because the other local reference was not available. |If you want to be deceived, put off, and ultimately ditched, First Choice is the place to go. If you want good work and ethical treatment, RUN!!!! somewhere else, anywhere else, in the opposite direction.

+ -1 moreI called Ray to replace some old pipes and he came out within a couple of days with his partner Dan. They were a great team and were happy to answer all of my questions. They also replaced the flush and fill valves in the 1/2 bath toilet and Ray capped a gas line in the laundry room. They did great work and the price was very reasonable. I was concerned when there were two of them to pay but it turned out to be only $5 more per hour than a single plumber would have charged and working together, they got the job done quickly. I would definitely hire them again.
Description of Work: Replaced copper hot & cold water pipes and a waste water sink pipe.

+ -1 moreWe received three estimates and he came in much lower than the others. He came out the very next day, everyone else was telling us a week. He fit us in between his other appointments he had that day. He was great. He even came in lower than his estimate. He replaced the split in the frost proof pipe of the exterior faucet and used the working parts to fix the leak of the second exterior faucet.

+ -1 moreWe called Ray about replacing our faucet and he gave us a date.He arrived on scheduled date right on time.After inspecting the job and taking measurements,he informed us he would have to cut a hole in our family room basement.I pictured a big hole in my ceiling.We went ahead with the job and were pleasantly surprised with the finished job.The hole was just big enough to access the faucet and he installed a plate at end of the work.We could hardly see where he had cut the hole. Excellent work and a great price. Highly recommend .

+ -1 moreRay was early on first call to provide an estimate but was glad to come back an hour later to review our issues and provide an estimate for the work to be done. No charge for the estimate. After we reviewed other estimates and selected him he arrived on time on the appointed day. The repairs went smoothly. After he left and we were replacing the drawers in the cabinet under the sink we noticed that one drawer did not close completely. We called Ray and he returned the following Monday and rerouted one of the supply lines to the faucet. This took only a few minutes, was performed at no additional charge, and resolved the problem. As you will note in the grading above, I gave him a "B" on professional for only one reason. Ray is apparently a smoker and the odor becomes noticeable when working in a non-smoking house such as ours. It was particularly noticeable when he came to prepare the estimate but we retained him anyway. Likewise, we would retain him again for plumbing work that we may need, but he may want to address this personal issue as a part of his otherwise excellent service.

The whole job took less than one hour. We have never had a job go so smoothly. Description of Work: I called Ray Laudermilk...the owner....and made an appointment in two days from the day I called. He arrived 10 minutes early! He was very professional and after turning on the shower he had an idea that our problem wasn't as bad as we thought it was going to be. He thought it may just be a bad "Moen push/pull cartridge in the shower valve" and it was spraying back into the wall cavity pouring downstairs into our daylight basement. It was in fact the problem and he replaced the cartridge and was out of here in less than an hour!!! He had the part in his truck so that was handy.

+ 0 moreCalled First Choice Plumbing Service shortly after 8 a.m. He was already on another job but we quickly were able to arrange a time that would work well fo me. Ray did not hessitate when he learned that I would not be at home util after 5 p.m. He called my house as soon as he was finished with the other job so that I would know he was available. I called him back as soon as I arrived home and he was at my house within 15 minutes. Ray had to crawl under my house to turn off the main water valve, take off the overflow tank (at which time he discovered that it neede replaced), cut the old broken shutoff valve on the hot water tank. He replace all parts and crawled back under the house to turn the water back on so that we would have hot water for the night and next day. The following day Ray came back with the new overflow tank with in 15 minutes of my call letting him know that I was home. He had the part changed quickly and did not even charge for his time.
Description of Work: Ray is very easy to work with, he accomodated my busy schedule. He replaced a broken hot water heater shutoff valve and overflow tank. He worked quickly and efficently. He was called for the broken valve and discovered the overflow tank was bad, this part was not on his truck but he arranged to install it the next day. Ray installed the overflow tank only charging for the part. Both of the times that Ray was at my house it was close to and after 5 p.m. but Ray did not charge extra for after hours work.

+ 0 moreOur existing faucet was leaking and my husband tried unsuccessfully to replace it. We called a neighbor who gave us the name of a plumber that he knew. We called him but he was busy and unable to come for several days. He gave us another plumber's name who we called in the morning and he came 1 1/2 hours after we called and was able to replace the faucet in about 15 minutes. His company is First Choice Plumbing and his name is Ray Laudermilk. We discovered that he had formerly worked for CDA Sheet Metal and had done a wonderful job for us in 2003 when we moved into our home -- replaced faucets, moved our hot water tank and installed a circulating hot water system. We were delighted to find him operating his own company. We plan to switch to a Marathon hot water heater and will definitely call him for the installation.
Description of Work: Plumber replaced our kitchen sink faucet. Price included the cost of the Moen faucet which he carried in his van. Price of faucet was what he paid with no additional markup.
