Jess Construction

After hiring Jess Construction last year, we were completely happy with the work and the cost of our previous remodel. So we rehired them to do many new projects this year. Things went excellently this year, and we are perfectly satisfied with the work again. Our house looks beautiful inside and out, and it's completely updated now. Our garage used to be a huge messy pile of stuff that we had never properly stored. Now we can park both cars inside, we have organized and stored all our stuff, and have plenty of new storage space in the cabinets and shelves if we need it later. Plus we have a very nice little work shop. Inside, we finished the last bathroom update, and it is beautiful. Our walls and staircase are all spruced up, no cracks in the ceiling, great paint job. The woodwork and trim is even cleaned up and refinished. The exterior paint job included lots of sanding and removal of old peeling paint from our cedar siding. Bill went way above and beyond what any other painting contractor would have done. All our siding and trim is now restored and looks fantastic. I would say Bill is a perfectionist. Even so, he always finished the work on time. He never left our job to work on another, never made us wait, and was always on schedule, even if there were unanticipated problems (in remodeling there always are). He worked extra, when he needed, so he always stayed on schedule. We recommended him to several friends, and they are also fully satisfied with the work he did for them.

Bill came in late May 2011, and started by cleaning some space in the garage, building some work tables and storage cabinets (which he left for us), putting up plastic to keep the dust out, and protecting our floors in the house. He always showed up promptly at 7am, or told me ahead of time that he would be stopping at the hardware store before coming. We had ordered the bath tile online and it came at least 1/2 broken. To stay on schedule, he worked around the broken and damaged tile, and somehow managed to put together a beautifully designed bathroom floor and walls. He even helped package up the broken tile mess to help me get refunded. He built a custom vanity to look just like the existing 1950's cabinets (well built and designed, it is fabulous and much nicer than the original!). While we waited for the kitchen cabinets (the order got messed up so they came later than I planned), he installed a new floor in my laundry and did several odd jobs. He installed the floor in the kitchen, fixed cracks in the ceiling, repaired drywall where the electician had moved light fixtures and wall outlets, even weatherproofed my door. He installed the kitchen cabinets so fast, you could see that he had decades of experience. The kitchen came together amazingly fast. He had extra time on his schedule and I had plenty more work for him, so he built the custom furniture I needed in my bedroom and painted the room. He never left my job to go work on another job the whole time he worked for me. That was a huge selling point to me when I hired him, and I got a whole lot of extra things done while we waited for the other contractors and orders that came in late. We live in a rural community where materials aren't easily available, so there were plenty of issues with internet orders that didn't go smoothly. He just multi-tasked and got other things done while we waited. I had trouble of one sort or another, with most of my other contractors for this job, and they all were expensive. But Bill kept his prices low and his quality of work high. He cleaned up his mess every day before he left and when he was done, my garage was so much cleaner and nicer than it was before he worked in it. He always worked extra hard to stay on schedule, and his job was completed slightly ahead of time. I was highly impressed and I love my remodel. I'm hiring him again next summer to do some more big jobs. He calls himself a "finish carpenter", but he's incredibly versatile, and can do all kinds of work. His carpentry work is outstanding.
