Services we offer
All Idaho Door offers a variety of manufactured garage door installations. We use the following vendors for our business: Amarr, Clopay, Genie, Linear, LiftMaster, and Wayne Dalton. We also install automatic door openers for each type of door as requested.
The installer arrived on time, was friendly and expedient, and (to my knowledge at the time) did an excellent job installing the new door. He adjusted the up and down travel limits, and the door worked as expected when he left. A couple months later while cleaning out the garage, we inadvertently left a table in the middle of the opening and attempted to close the garage door. The door came down on the table and continued to push downwards with considerable force (never reversing) buckling the top two garage door panels and bending the arm connecting the opener to the door. When I heard the screeching from the buckling door and went to investigate, I found the table wedged firmly under the door. I pushed the button to raise the door which released the tension from the opener, but the damaged door was not coming up properly so I hit the button again to stop the opener. After the tension was removed and the door was stable, I pulled the disconnect cord to separate the door from the opener and pushed the button to run the opener the rest of the way up so it would be out of the way. I was then able to coax the door the rest of the way down. With no way to secure the door without the opener attached, I jammed a broom handle through between the door and the corner of the railing to prevent the door from opening. The next morning I called All Idaho Door to see about getting the door repaired. They sent Jim back on Tuesday, I met him at the house, and he confirmed that the top two panels would need to be replaced. He said he would talk to the office about scheduling. He also looked at the force settings on the opener and commented that they were turned up to maximum. Jim adjusted the force settings down to a lower setting, but could not fully adjust them as the door was not operating properly. At my request, he also installed a slide lock to allow me to secure the garage until the door was repaired and reconnected to the opener (which I appreciated). In the meantime, I had done some research and discovered that federal regulations had been enacted in response to numerous cases of injury or death to small children trapped under a closing door, and current regulations and UL 325 both mandate reversal testing during installation and recommend monthly reversal testing by the consumer – which was not done during the replacement of the garage door. Door and Access Systems Manufacturer’s Association (DASMA) International Technical Data Sheet #369, revised 4/2016, specifically discusses reversal testing and that the forces be adjusted to the minimum level necessary to operate the door reliably. When contacted by Shari of All Idaho Door to schedule the replacement, they told me I would be charged to repair the door. When I discussed what I had found on federal regulations requiring reversal testing and force adjustments during installation (which were not done), I was told that their company policy was to only adjust the travel limit settings if they didn’t install the opener. I expressed concern that they were leaving the installation in a potentially unsafe condition by not testing reversal and adjusting force, and was alarmed that not only was it not tested and adjusted, I was not informed that they were not adjusted. As a consumer with no knowledge of federal regulations and requirements for garage door installation, I rely on the professionals I hire to keep myself, my family, and visitors to the home safe and secure. The only paperwork given to me at the time of the install was the invoice, which doesn’t say anything about adjustments. During a conversation with Lori Morgan on 5/19, I was told that they had frequent complaints of damage to customer vehicles and other property, but that they didn’t cover damage from the door under any circumstances. She also said that considerable force could be exerted by the door, causing damage, even if it eventually reversed (which this one did not). While discussing the company policy to only adjust travel limits, Lori said that they would adjust the force settings if the customer requested that service. When I asked how a typical uninformed consumer would know to ask for such an adjustment, she reiterated the company policy that they only adjust travel limits unless otherwise requested by the consumer. Shari had offered to pay for one of the panels, which Lori said was against their policy but that they would honor it since Shari offered it. This would reduce the repair costs from about $220 to about $170 (I don’t remember the exact amounts). After repeatedly stating that I felt the repairs should be at no cost since the reversal and force tests and adjustments were not made – in violation of federal regulations (which in my opinion caused or significantly increased the damage), I felt I had no choice but to pay for the panels if I wanted to be able to use the garage door. I submitted a complaint to the Idaho Attorney General who attempted voluntary dispute resolution with All Idaho Door on my behalf. Although I clearly cited federal regulations that require an installer to adjust the up and down force settings upon installation or replacement - even including copies of the relevant regulations in my complaint - to my dismay, All Idaho Door completely ignored any reference to the federal requirement to adjust force settings to prevent injury or death and continue to insist that they only adjust travel limits unless the (typically uninformed) consumer requests they also adjust up and down force limits.
Description of Work: Replace original (1962) heavy wooden 7' x 16' door with broken spring with a new very light aluminum uninsulated 4-panel door. There was an existing opener installed by another provider in 2012 that was fully functional. I initially contacted the local Overhead Door company since I had worked with them in the past and was happy with their work, but they didn't have the correct door in stock and recommended a couple other providers - including All Idaho Door.
