We were cheated by this company, BEWARE! We told Rug Rats our cabin had extreme temp variations, a wood burning stove and that we ABSOLUTELY COULD NOT USE LVP. Dax and Shane claimed they could install an expensive miracle type glue down lvp that is meant for cabins and is an industrial strength all weather product. They guaranteed, over and over, that this was this was the PERFECT product for our cabin. Five witnesses were present, WE sadly believed them. They went as far as to say our other quotes and opinions were not correct because other companies did not know better. Later they gaslighted us saying we insisted on lvp in which we did opposite. We arrived to our cabin to find a mess! Our floor has hundreds of seam bulges, overlapped lvp, gaps and other problems that indicate the installer did not know what he was doing. He didn't properly acclimate the product, didn't install correctly and the product did not work. Rug Rats did not fix the floor or refund us for this mess that we paid in full for, they ignored our calls and refused to do a final inspection. We did not get to use our floor for even one day! We lost over 6k and now an additional 2k to rip out their mess. They do not back up their product, installation or stand behind their promises. Do not believe their persuasive kindness, there is a reason they charge, in full, prior to installation. Court proceeding will follow.

I’m so disappointed to have to post this review. We have worked with Rug Rat in the past and been very pleased with them. However, this last job was a disaster from the beginning. We were first told that they no longer had their own installers, but gave us a couple of people they worked with. Repeated calls were unanswered. When I returned to Rug Rat to tell them, they said sorry but they couldn’t do anything. I decided to install it myself. During the installation, I opened one box that looked wrong. All laminate flooring has some variation, but this box looked like altogether the wrong color. I set it aside and continued the job. Once I was ready to install transition pieces, I found one piece of the type I needed the most of and 7 ( yes 7!!) of the type I needed about 1-2 pieces of. Once the job was complete, we returned to the store with all the extra transition pieces, one full unopened box of flooring, and the box with the wrong color. They would not take anything back! I pushed about the discolored box. They said they would see what they could do. This was about a week before Christmas, and we have received nothing but runaround from them, everything from, “ We have to contact the company rep.” to “A claim has been filed to see what can be done”. I’d also like to point out that I had to make all the contacts with them. They would promise to call to update us, but it never happened. We stopped one last time on Saturday. We were told that nobody was working that day except the receptionist, but she would definitely have someone call us on Monday. As you can tell from the date of this review, that call did not happen… yet again!! This is where we sit now; we paid cash in full for everything, we have several pieces of transition that were wrong that they will not return, a full unopened box that they will not return, and a box of the wrong color which is paid for, but in their possession in order to “make a claim”. As I said at the beginning, I am so sad and disappointed that this has been our experience, but I would hate to have others be treated this way.

Response from RUG RAT FLOORING INC
We started working with this customer 12/2019, that's when the first payment was made on this invoice. Pricing was held for two years while payments were made through numerous price increases (roughly 5-8 increases per year.) We feel that this was a favor to the customer. She is correct that we don't have in-house installers, our installers are sub-contractors that we work with, it's illegal in the state of Idaho to have in-house subs that work only for us. Customer decided on her own that she was going to install the product, mentioning that there was a friend that would help install. We sent the carton in question back and the manufacturer tested it and all planks were within spec. The mill suspects that the customer hand picked some of the planks that were unwanted and put them all in a single carton to try and get a refund. Since the customer decided that they would install their own floor, they came in and told us what types of transitions were needed and we ordered as such. The customer is upset that we (or the manufacturer) won't take custom transitions back as a return, this is commonplace in this industry. Those trims were made for that specific floor. I shouldn't be held culpable for someone who special orders incorrect parts to their floor. We heard back from our rep on the claim on 1/18 and notified the customer on 1/19. We got back to the customer as soon as we found out the outcome of the claim (which was denied for reasons given above.) We called when we received information, was a daily update needed? Saturday, when customer came in and a 'receptionist' was working, that person was a design consultant and has worked hard to familiarize herself with the industry. She feels degraded by this customer and her labeling. If someone goes into a restaurant and ORDERS fries and is brought fries, but wanted a burger, is it the fault of the restaurant for the misorder? Rug Rat and our team is not at fault entirely for what happened. I appreciate the review and am grateful that I can respond. Thanks!

The guy who gave me the estimate was very responsive for the estimate, but he sort of flaked on scheduling the installer. When he emailed me the options for the work and I responded, I never heard back. When I followed up, he denied that I had responded. We worked it out and he helped make sure we met a tight timeline. The installers were very resourceful and courteous. The helper seemed a little new and a little too chatty, but the boss was all business and got the job done well with what seemed the least headache and trouble. The previous problems were fixed and the floor looks good.
Description of Work: we needed some gaps in a laminate floor fixed.
