My husband met with Kelly to walk thru our new home and get an estimate for work. We needed a dryer vent moved underneath the house to a new location (my husband cored the new hole in the foundation - we just needed someone to relocate the venting underneath the house in the crawl space, as the crawl space is fairly tight on this home) and we needed the heating and air conditioning units assessed to give us an idea if they would and were functioning properly and if we would need to replace them in the near future or if they would last a while longer and the filter on the heating unit was to be replaced. My husband was quoted $250 for what we needed done. On the day of the appointment a tech showed up, but apparently there was a mix up with paperwork and the tech did not know why he was at the house or what work needed to be done. When my husband told the tech that he needed the dryer vent under the house moved to a new location, the tech said "I have kids and I am not going down in that crawlspace! There are spiders down there." My husband was shocked and at first thought the tech was joking. When he realized the tech was serious, he told the tech that was the work that we needed done and was told on the walk thru that it would be done. The tech did go down and hook up the dryer vent and did assess the heating and cooling system and my husband said that he was knowledgeable about our systems and that they would both continue functioning (of course he could not give a definite time frame due to their age) and a new filter was installed in the heating unit. Then the tech gave my husband a bill for $466. My husband was shocked at the bill, but wrote a check out for that amount and then called the Western office. Kelly could not explain why the amount the tech wrote the bill up for was so high, and assured us that they would not deposit the check. The next day, I called the office and provided my credit card number as they indicated that they had destroyed the check and the amount was $250 as quoted. While I appreciate that they made it right by not allowing the overcharge, I don't know if I would be willing to take a chance in the future of such an unprofessional tech showing up and being overcharged again and that is why I believe we will not be using them in the future

Sent out bids for 3 heating/cooling services locally. Western was the most comprehensive and through and didn't try to sell us more than we needed. These people were very clear in what needed to be done and why. Service was quick and courteous. Work was done on a cold day in January and yet the house's temp. did not drop. We feel we were treated fairly and honestly.
Description of Work: Found out our home's crawl space duct work was sub-par to begin with and had deteriorated over time, 20 yrs. Duct work had gapping holes, some ducts were not attached to vents and most was laying on the ground. In short we have been heating the crawl space of our house. All duct work needed replacing.

I like this company. The employees are honest, direct, and tell it like it is. There are no hidden or "Surprise!" costs like those I've experienced with other service companies in Boise. I recommend Western, especially their preventive maintenance "Blue Ribbon" agreement.
Description of Work: I've used Western for 14 years. They've always been there for me, and Iike their frank assessment of any problems or concerns I have. They know I am waiting to purchase a new furnace until I really must, and so they do everything possible to maximize the efficiency of the old (30-year-old) furnace in the house. Western has a "Blue Ribbon" plan and I'd encourage homeowners to purchase this each year. You pay the going rate for the A/C and Furnace services, and schedule them in spring and fall for these. Being a "Blue Ribbon" customer has its benefits--I think I get a percentage off of parts, and maybe get put on top of the list if I have a plumbing emergency and am a Blue Ribbon customer. They've also replaced my water heater, and were very professional and capable through that.

The service and the professionalism was top notch! We are very pleased.
Description of Work: We had three other companies tell us we needed to add additional duct work and venting to eliminate the problem. Since our furnace had been working fine for 11 years it didn't make any sense. We were just getting ready to move forward with spending thirity six hundred dollars; when I checked Angies list one more time. We ended up calling Western Heating and were pleased from the get go with the profesionalism and thoroughness. They were as stumped as we were since the problem started recently and not been on going. After additional searching they found we are three cracks in the heat exchanger. They came back the following day to fix the problem. All is well!

I gathered quotes from a number of A/C companies on Angie's list, and settled on Western. First off, their bid was more competitive for what they were providing, seemed to be giving me "straight talk", and they were always on time, cleaned up, and were careful in all their work. They had installed the original Furnace system in my home as well, and they adjusted a few things, no charge, that they felt should be tweaked.

We purchased an older home (1970's) and wanted to insure the heating was up to par before winter. The ducts were very dirty so we needed to have them cleaned as well. Western responded promptly and scheduled an inspection within a couple of days during which they discovered our duct work was disconnected in the crawl space. They repaired that on the spot and gave us an estimate for their twice yearly service and for duct cleaning. The next day their office called and scheduled both a furnace service and duct cleaning, again within a very short time. We were very pleased with their prompt response, professionalism, cleanliness, and efficiency. Later in the winter (February) we awoke to a cold house. We called Western and they showed up on our doorstep about 10:00am. The igniter had burned out on the furnace so he replaced it with one he had on his truck. The house was warm by lunchtime for a very small bill (under $100).

My heater wasn't working at all and it was really cold outside. I called Western Heating around 8:30am and they had a tech at my house by 10:30am. I had a dirty sensor. The tech cleaned it up and was finished withing 20 minutes. I haven't had any problems since. I expected the house call to be a lot more. I will definitely recommend Western Heating to family, friends, and co-workers.

Very pleased with the service by Western Heating & Air Conditioning. I woke up to no heat. After checking various items I finally had a reason to sign up for Angie's List. Called Western & they were able to confirm sometime in the afternoon. Around 11:45 I got a call from Larry, who arrived in the 15 minute window offered. He was able to identify the issue quickly, the ignitor had gone bad (very easy to see why). He replaced the part which he had in his truck, and offered to replace the filter (which was overdue). Larry was very professional & friendly. He didn't seem to mind that I was looking over his shoulder & was glad to explain the problem. I would gladly do business with Western Heating again.

Sunday night the heater wasn't blowing hot air; despite the fact that the furnace was obviously running. Temp dropped to 61degress by morning. I called Western Heating who scheduled an appt for 0830 that morning. A faulty switch was the cause. Unfortunately, the repairman didn't have the particular type needed. He left and returned later with the correct switch. In the meanwhile, he adjusted the furnace so we had heat during that time. By the time he returned, the house was warm and the temp was back to 71. The switch was covered under the furnace warranty. The visit was a call back from the previous visit.
Description of Work: The house was cold and the fan wasn't working despite the fact that the furnace was running. He found a faulty switch which was replaced. House was warm again!

I called them 1st thing in the AM, and they told me they were booked solid, but would have someone there by 4PM. Their technician called about 10:30, and said he could be here in a few minutes. He came, looked very professional, and fixed the furnace in about 20 minutes. We paid a very reasonable price for the job, and the furnace continues to work perfectly.

Description of Work: Our home furnace went out and within a week the boiler at my apartment building stopped working. I had looked on Angie's List and saw that Western Heating came with a multitude of positive reports so I called them. Home furnace had an important part burn out and they were able to locate one in town and replaced it the same day. It was a bit of an expensive part but our furnace works fine now. Apartment boiler--The boiler stopped working so I asked for a boiler repair person. They came the same day only to diagnose immediately that no information was coming from the thermostat. Checked the thermostat to find 3 dead batteries. Cost me the service call of $55. I had another company do my fall maintenance check up but from now on it will be Western Heating for both. Yes, I will hire them again.

Description of Work: We started using Western Heating And Air Conditioning in August of this year. At that time our AC was fixed professionally and promptly and without great expense and the older unit works better and more efficient now than in the 6 years we have been in this home. We had to replace the furnace in September due to cracked heat exchanger cells. This was also done professionally and promptly. The price was excellent. Everything about the services and purchase of equipment from this Company is very up front and no hidden costs. Their service and installation is the most professional I have ever had period. The office and sales people also compliment the service men and installers. Every one is on the same page with this Company.We will gladly continue to use Western Heating & AC and highly recommend them. This company is a blueprint of how business should be conducted. Dennis came out and did an energy evaluation of our house. There was no pressure, just good information provided. When we got the estimate with the facts, we decided to go for it. We got a tankless water heater, which is what we wanted, new furnace, ducts cleaned and sealed, new air conditioner, new thermostat. The day of installation, my daughter and mother were trying to put a desk in daughter's car. Installation guys saw the situation and put the desk in the car for her. Thanks guys! They were right on time, respectful, careful and clean. So far, everything is great. Company is very responsive, very professional.

They were prompt and provided the estimate in a timely manner. The technician arrived on time and was very friendly. He finished in a timely manner. Unfortunately his work did not pass the county building inspector and he had to come back and re-do his work. After the second inspection it passed and they promptly came and hooked things up and helped get our home in order.

Western Heating & Air Conditioning is the best service provider I have ever worked with. I just moved here from Cleveland and I was in the process of remodeling my home in the North End. It is an older house (1940) and this work was part of a significant renovation, where all existing duct work, the furnace and the air conditioning were removed. I initially went with another service provider that was rated very highly on Angie's List. The other provider was hired and, to make long story short (you can read my review of them under ADA Mechanical here on Angie's List), they completely messed everything up, were not licensed properly, damaged the structure of my house and missed their completion target by several weeks. I called Kevin Abbott over at Western (based on the recommendation of the builder helping me on the rest of the renovation) to beg for help. Kevin is one of the most professional, knowledgeable and helpful contractors I have ever worked with. He showed up first thing the next morning and performed a thorough examination of the incomplete installation from the previous installer. He immediately called the local inspector for a walkthrough and an inspection of the existing install. The inspector confirmed that the existing installation was so bad, that very little of the existing work could be used; I would need a new furnace, A/C, humidifier, air cleaner and to have most of the duct work removed and replaced with properly sized and placed equipment. I really respect that Kevin collaborated with the city inspector to get a fair assessment of the work performed. I was now not only over budget (I have been forced to sue the other installer to get my deposit back) but also way behind schedule. I can't overemphasize how much Kevin and the team from Western saved the day. He worked with me to get a price on properly sized equipment that was actually better than the quote I got from the first installer. He had his crew out within two days to do the install and they completed the installation within three days! Lupe and the installation crew were incredible. The completed installation was extremely neat and professional looking and they respected the fact that I was trying to minimize the duct space in the living area of my smaller older home when they designed the supply system. Lupe and his crew were very friendly, professional and got along well with the other trades that were working onsite. When they were done, they left the work area cleaner than they found it. I can understand if you think the praise in this review is over the top, but every word and sentiment I have put in here is 100% true. Kevin and his team saved the day. If you are having air conditioning or heating work done on your home, call Kevin Abbott at Western, 208-631-7954. I will only use Kevin for heating and A/C work in the future and I will gladly recommend him to anyone who needs this type of work done on their home.

They are very good. The guy who came out for the original installation was very good. They are very nice people to work with. They are personable and their estimates are very honest as they stick to the price they quote you. They recommended a new type of system that did not use freon that had not been on the market very long. We are glad we took their advice as it has worked out well.
