They came out to give me a quote in the same week that I had called. The quote ended up being what another company had quoted my sister just for replacing her AC unit. When I decided to go ahead with the work, they were at the house the next day, 8 am sharp. The entire team is very punctual and professional. They got the install done in a day and everything was very clean and tidy when they finished. The duct cleaners cleaned out and sealed up ducts that hadn't been cared for in quite some time which helped out my allergies so much. They also gave me some great tips about my thermostat and what to do with the furniture around my intake vent. (This is my first home with central air and heating.)
Description of Work: I had an old furnace that needed to be replaced and I had AC added as well. I also had a duct cleaning done a few weeks later.

The technician (Bob) was able to come early and called to make arrangements. He found a coolant leak within our AC system and made the needed repairs quickly. Have been a customer for two years and intend to continue using them for our HVAC needs.

To be honest, I don't know any of the details about how it went, because the man came, opened up a hatch to get into my crawl space beneath my house, and I chose not to follow him in there to observe what was going on. It was an easy decision once I watched him brush away the spider webs and general grime at the entrance of the crawl space. When he came back out, he told me he had to replace a small part, which cost about $39.00. He said everything else was in good shape, and he said I was all ready to go for the winter.
Description of Work: The provider did a winter tune up of my heating system as part of the annual plan they sell. They came in the spring to do a repair on my air conditioning, and I wound up signing up for their annual maintenance plan. This visit was for the fall tune up of my heating system, and it was pre-paid as part of the annual plan.

This is a 30 year old furnace. I have been prepared to replace it since I moved into this house three years ago. I have had Western out twice. Once was simply that the gas was not turned on to the furnace (took a 3 ft long wrench to turn the valve) and this time the control board needed replaced. Either time they could have told me I needed a new furnace and I would have said OK. Eventually one of the trifecta of hot water heater, furnace, or air conditioner will fail and when that happens I will have Western replace all three. PS - They told me it would be two days before they could get out, but were able to make it work the next day. Underpromise and overdeliver.

I have been VERY happy with the service and quality of their service dept. (Ival) for my 3 years with Western. However, every year I have received a 'double' billing for the Blue Ribbon service which is charged at $155 for two yearly visits. When I called to complain the 1st time, I was treated in a very blasé manner by the bookkeeper and as if it was silly of me to even ask. Last year I was charged $165 for the same service and I paid without comment, but also received another already paid for Blue Ribbon charge. This year, having paid the new charge on January 5, 2015, I received yet ANOTHER billing for that charge on March 4, 2015. I called Bob Barnes and explained my discomfort at continually receiving double billing and asked that I receive my Blue Ribbon charge back and that I was finished with this treatment. He feigned a 'shock' that I had not heard back from his bookkeeper, then added that she had just had surgery, was in the hospital, blah, blah. Strange that in one of my calls, she had also 'been terribly sick'. The excuses regarding the double billing were numerous and ridiculous to put it mildly. I was 'over charged' for the Ribbon last year ....supposedly us 'senior' citizens get a $10 discount. After speaking with Bob on 5/6, I got a call from 'Christina' the bookkeeper with her statement that she 'couldn't refund money for services NOT performed'. The ignorance of that statement left me speechless and I simply had to hang up. Although it is my feeling that their service department is probably among the best in the valley, their customer service from management and billing leaves more to be desired than is received. I have come to the conclusion that by DOUBLE BILLING, they are throwing those out there to see how many stick. I feel fairly certain that many of their customers are in my age category and are more likely to 'forget' that they already paid for the year and do so again, unknowingly. Consequently, to you out there reading this, I say, if you decide to use them, watch your billing and receipts VERY carefully and do not end up like I have. I will not tolerate such treatment from any company including WESTERN HEATING & AIR CONDITIONING Update June 1, 2015 I appreciate receiving the refund for my unused service that I was told I would NOT receive by the bookkeeper. I have to add that this was the THIRD year in a row that I received a double billing. The March billing was an INVOICE (#C30243) clearly marked 'payment due' RENEWAL. Furthermore, I called every time to complain about it. Each time that I called, I got another story about the bookkeeper being in the hospital or out sick. It seems to me that this company either doesn't listen, or just plain doesn't care about offending their customers. In any case, double billing is a very poor business practice and certainly should be illegal. Strange, that I would receive these 'renewal' bills months after having paid for them, consistently, every year. .

I was distressed that there was a problem of this nature and that we upset this customer. She has indeed been a Blue Ribbon customer for 3 years and as she qualified for the Senior Discount she should have been charged $155 and not $165 for last year and will certainly be refunded the difference. She renewed the Blue Ribbon service in January when our technician was out there for a repair and this is for the upcoming year. As she requested a refund on the upcoming Blue Ribbon services, we have cancelled the service plan for her, and have refunded the $155 as well as the $10 from the previous year that she should not have been charged. As for the double billing, the notice she received in March was a renewal notice for the Blue Ribbon program and since she had already renewed, she should not have received one. This was a miscommunication on our part and I apologize for that. I have confirmed that there was no charge associated with the March notice. We send renewal notices as well as service reminders as a convenience for our customers so they get the services they paid for and so they don’t forget that they have services coming to them. Once again we are sorry for the confusion that occurred and hope we have rectified the problem to the customer’s satisfaction. Bob Barnes, Jr., President

We have now gone to Western Heating and Air Conditioning and they have been excellent. We now have an annual thing that we pay, yearly to service and replace the filters and check everything. So, they come out twice a year, and we've done that for the last couple of years. They just come out and do everything and check everything really good to make sure everything is draining properly. There is no issues and it's a brand new furnace. It shouldn't have any issues, but it's good to have it checked every year. They explained what they're doing for one thing. They won't just go up there and do it and have you signed the papers or something, they just tell you what they've done and you can see what they've done. We're always here when they come. They really seem to train their people. The fellow that was just out with the air conditioner had just gone through a training. He was explaining what he was learning and everything, and they seem to be really busy, so I guess that's a good sign. I noticed when he left here that he told out on the road and stopped and he just probably was calling in to tell what he'd done and where he was going next. I think they were fair.
Description of Work: This last Monday, they came out to service the air conditioner. They just cleaned it and they checked the freon and they checked the different things to make sure everything was working correctly.

The price was not bad. I like the fact that they will check and see if you have a problem, fix the problem and if you want that thing. The prices were reasonable. The prices they charge for coming out and inspect were a little pricey but sometimes they have specials. They come twice a year and schedule it. Overall, it’s worth it and I can’t go on top of my house.
Description of Work: I used Western Heating & Air Conditioning. They come out twice a year and they do an inspection to be sure that it’s working right or if there’s any problems. They get those fixed. Last time they came, there was a leakage and they fixed it.

Dennis first researched the warranty on the A/C compressor (just a couple of months past!) and then thoroughly explained the prats cons of repair vs replacement. They were able to schedule the work within days and the technicians were polite, neat and very efficient. All work was done on time and exactly within the agreed upon estimate.
Description of Work: A/C compressor froze and shorted out the furnace’s control board. Western gave us estimates for several options from patching up the existing systems to replacing both A/C and furnace. We decided given the age of the systems to replace both A/C and furnace.

I have a 100 year old apartment bldg in downtown Boise with 100 year old radiant heat and steam pipes. We changed the heat so each unit has its own Daikin heat/ AC unit. Western Heating did a thorough review of the bldg and gave me a bid and installed the 8 units at the pace that I requested. It was a complex install because no apartment is the same in neither design or size. They installed each unit in one day so each tenant was minimally bothered. They allowed me to schedule payments so that I could pay it from monthly income and did not have to borrow. They respond immediately to needs and provide follow up to each individual tenant They are my heating company of choice and would strongly recommend them to others!.

It is our policy to call back all messages as quickly as we can. In this case, we returned the customer’s message the next morning and left a message as we were unable to get a hold of him. When the customer called back later in the day, sometime after 4pm, we explained that due to the heat we have been experiencing we are currently booked out several days and the customer chose not to wait. While we certainly understand that customers want service the same day, it is common during extended periods of high temperatures to be booked out as much as a week. We are very concerned about getting to customers as quickly as we can and our technicians are working long hours of overtime to keep up with the numbers of calls we receive this time of year. I've used Western Appliance (Rich) 4 times over the last 2.5 years. Today was Rich's 5th visit, he quickly and accurately diagnosed the problem with my dishwasher. 20 minutes later it was all systems go! For only $132 Rich delivered top $$ service, I love this guy!!

We have an old air conditioning unit that leaks a little and sometimes freezes up. We called Western Heating & Air Conditioning, based on the quantity of overwhelmingly positive reviews, here on Angie's List. We are glad we did!! The service technician, Darren Moore, called to say he was on his way, and showed up right on time. He was very polite and professional. He recommended a product called "Stop Leak" as a lower cost alternative to a full leak search. He added 2 lbs. of refrigerant, washed/cleaned the condenser coils on outside unit, and even replaced our dirty furnace filters!! Based on our experience with this company, I will use them again and highly recommend them!
Description of Work: Added 2 lbs. of refrigerant, injected 1 can of "Stop Leak," washed condenser coils, and replaced two dirty furnace filters.

The salesman was extremely knowledgeable and helped us design a system that met both our needs and our budget. the duct cleaning crew did an outstanding job. they even repaired some of the ducts at no additional charge. the installation team also did a fantastic job. I got bids from several companies in the treasure valley, but was most impressed with the salesman and the time he took with us. We compared their Carrier equipment to others at consumer reports and found it to be in the top three. I would recommend this company to anyone needing a new HVAC system.
Description of Work: they installed a new furnace, air conditioner and water heater. they also did a very thorough cleaning of the duct work and dryer prior to the install.

It was forecast to be the hottest day of the year so far at 85 degrees. I called them to set up an appointment to get it checked out, expecting it to be next week before they could get here. It was about 75 deg when I called around 12:30. The tech showed up an hour later. He diagnosed the problem, but he didn't have the right part in his van so he called and they delivered one out to my house from across town. He installed it and everything worked great.
Description of Work: Replaced the fan motor in my 20 year old AC unit.

The service person came and cleaned and checked the AC condenser unit outside and the indoor coil for dirt or debris that might be blocking the air flow. Replaced filter drier, due to high superheat.
