This tile was purchased with our insurance money and he returned it to the tile comapnay and was reimbursed and put the money in his own pocket!! We originally called this company for an estimate on tile for our shower. Stoneridge Construction had done some tile work for us in the past about 10 years ago and we wanted to give him our business as we knew he had a sick wife and many medical bills so we felt sorry for him and knew he needed the work desperately. Dan Ridgewell (owner of Stoneridge Construction) came out and bid the tile job and then started looking around realizing we had water damage in our home and asked us if we realized he did water mitigation now not just tile as he had expanded his business. . We said "no we did not" and proceeded to question some things the last restoration company had did for us 3 weeks prior. Dan went and got his testing equipment from his home to confirm what we thought all along, that the last restoration company did not do their job well and there was still water damage to our home as well as mold now. At this point we fired the original restoration company and hired Stoneridge Construction. At first he did fairly well with the water damage and finishing what the first company hadnt completed properly. Except his promptness of showing up was very sporadic at best!!!! He had a sick wife and is her caretaker as well and so we were very patient with him at first due to these circumstances. He never once put it a 8 hour day the whole time he was here. Once it was time for the rebuild on our home is when the problems began. Our insurance company wrote our check out to his company and also us for the sum of over $16,000. As soon as he got the check he came right over and had us sign the check so he could start the rebuild! At this point in his mind it became Stoneridge Constructions money not ours. He had gotten estimates for our damaged cabinets that were to include installation and removal. These estimates were over $10,000!! However we were told by Dan Ridgewell to go to Home Depot for these cabinets and we had approx. $4,100 to spend. We started questioning his integrity at this point as we knew what estimates he had turned in to the insurance company. At this point we realized he was expecting to get a 60% mark up on all work performed with us not the percentage rate that is allowed as the contractor through the insurance claim. Everything he did in our home including his subs work was questionable at best and had to be redone or remained unfinished!!! Our new contractor had to rebuild the walls, the floors and finish several undone jobs that he left when he walked off the job on March 5th, not returning and keeping our insurance money. We were without hot water for 3 months and 5 days!! He also has his 14 year old son come in to do work as well as he doesnt go to school and to me that was very unprofessional!! Dan spent far more time trying to figure out how he could capitolize on our ins. claim than worked performed!!! His last week on the job he worked approx. 6 hours in labor. You never knew when he would show up or if he would show up. He should of stayed in the tile business only as this job was way over his head and he did not know once the water mitigation was done how to put our home back together. All he saw was $ signs. We have now had to get a lawyer and file with the BBB to try and stop this man and his subs from scamming anyone else!!! He is a professional con artist who has no regard for honest business!! He also put a lien on our home for $19,000!! In the State of Idaho anyone can go down to the courthouse recorders office and do that and does not need any proof of the allegations. We now have to pay our lawyer to get that removed as well. This is a company and a man you want to stay away from!! We just dont want anyone else to have to go through what we did. Most recently Dan Ridgwell filed a false lien on our home in the amount of $19,437.00. This would have been the money he would have made had he finished the job. Mr. Ridgwell filed the the lien after the ninety day allowance by statute and lied to the clerk in the court about the truthfulness of his claim. In the State of Idaho the only proof you have to have is proof that you are who you say you are. There is no verification of the claim. Anyone can file a lien against anyone's home and all it will cost you is $15.00.
Description of Work: Dan Ridgewell of Stoneridge Construction was hired to do water and mold mitigation in our home which included tearing out walls, existing flooring and sub flooring. He removed some of the damaged cabinets, and rebuilt some floors and walls and did insurance related mitigation as well. He was also hired to do some remodel of our home on the side as our home was so damaged and messed up by this point we thought it would be the best time to do it. He never completed any of the jobs he was supposed to do such as the tearing down of the popcorn celing. the finishing of the pony walls and laundry room closet. His subcontractor had rebuilt a floor for us in our entry way but it had to be redone by our new contractor and cost us extra money as it was completely unlevel and once our laminate flooring was laid it was completely bending and bulging in places it should not of been!! We had to purchase additioanal flooring to repalce the damage ones and pay in the excess of $800.00 of additional labor. Stoneridge Construction was to complete the rebuild of our home however that did not take place as he walked off the job on March 5th. He came when I was not home and removed all his tools and stole 400.00 worth of tile out of our bathroon. This tile was purchased with our insurance money and Mr. Ridgewell returned it to the Masonary Center and was reimbursed for the return and put the money in his own pocket!! He also kept the remailnder of our insurance check that had not been spent on the rebuild of our home which was approx. $9,000 and to this day refuses to give it back. We have had to file crimainal charges on this man and also spend money on a lawyer in an attempt to recover this money. For us it is the principle of this situation. You don't run a business like this and take advantage of people and their ins. company claims!
