Two days after moving into a new home, I fell from a ladder and fractured my back. I was 'out of commission' for nearly a year following this accident and Mike helped me complete my move from downtown Boise to Eagle. I was also unavailable for the most part when it came to checking on his tile work in the master bath. He cut some corners in an attempt to save money by paying the professional plumber and damaged my brand new Moen Vintage faucets by trying to tighten them from above when they should have been done so underneath the sink. There are existing goof ups and crooked applications to this day. Many of the errors were due to my inhury in that I wasn't able to finalize and approve the work. Much of what I have to say here is my view and opinion and there is far too much detail to present here as I still have trouble sitting for any extended period. Here in Idaho, anyone can proclaim themselves a "General Contractor" as long as they buy the license that says so from the state. That is unfortunate, because it leads people to believe they are hiring an overall and much educated contractor that is qualified to make that statement. In this case, Mike has most of his experiencein tiling, period. He has no experience in simple electricity, carpentry and plumbing. I am a former practising interior designer from CA and accustomed to working with contractors of all types including generals. I believed Mike to be in that catagory. Not so. He did quite a nice job in the walk in shower, but when he came to the vanity, he fell very short in expertise. I used small river rock on the back splash for the vanity and the grout is full of air bubbles and mis-placement. I did not see most of the shoddy work in the beginning due to my injury and pain. With the exception of his sub-contractor plumber, the rest of his subs would fall to very incompetent workmen in my view. Most spent much of their time on their cell phones, as did Mike, and were much too social in their approach to their jobs. I had to ask several to turn down their radios numerous times and to 'please get to work' other times.......not something I like to do. This wasnot a professional environment, I was on pain meds, and just too out of it to deal properly. I would have sent many of them packing had I been able to do so. In the end, Mike gave me a bill for $16,000 which was over the top to say the least. He was unable to show me his exact charges, and it took me 3-4 times of asking to get him to present me with any sort of professional billing. His bookeeping was non-existent and he didn't appear to have a clue about it. He didn't underatnd taxes, nor how it works for a contractor. Unless you are a qualified designer or want to act as an overall general yourself, I cannot recommend this person.
